Lumia keeps locking up - Nokia Lumia 800

Has anyone experienced their Lumia locking up?
It's happened to me three times in three days now. The screen is off and the handset unresponsive - all calls go straight to voicemail. The only thing I can do is hold the power button for ten seconds to re-start it. The battery has loads of charge (86% on the last lock up) so I don't think it's a power issue.
It's not great having to keep checking to make sure that it's still running and I'm not missing calls.

I have a similar issue. Sometimes lock wakes the phone to a black screen. The buttons are still responsive but nothing fixes it save a reset. Really hope this is a software and not a hardware issue.

I've looked into the issue a bit more and although this probably isn't what is happening to you, using third party or rapid charge chargers create a current problem that requires restart. This should be fixed in the next update (hopefully). May I ask what hardware revision your device is?

keyboard not working

Having a problem with ALL keyboards (swift, flext9, stock) when tying to type letters on the bottom row (z,x,c,v,b n,m). When trying to input these letters the phone will input the letters directly above. I've read it can be a software or hardware issue. I have pulled the battery, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, and ran a superwipe. I was going to try and clear data for the stock keyboard (htc_ime) but cannot find it under Application-Manage application-All. I also tried looking under Application-Manage application-Running; what I found was Touch Input but no options to clear anything. Where is the htc_ime found?
I also noticed when in the dialer that I cannot input *, 0, #. Instead when I press these keys it will input 7, 8, 9, the keys directly above.
I am slowly beginning to believe this is hardware related, but what is weird is that yesterday after wiping cache/dalvik the keyboard worked normally. However, after some time passed, it reverted back to having issues again.
Is there anything else I can try? Could it be possible that the ribbon for the digitizer is loose rather than the digitizer just failing?
Maybe something you did mest up your Calibration you can check by going to.
"Settings ---> Language&Keyboard ---> Touch Input ---> Text Input ---> Calibration tool."
And see if that fixes your problem.
Seems to be known HTC problem for years and they haven't fixed it.
install a free app called 'Draw' from the Play store. When you open it the screen turns black and then slide your finger around and it will leave a line. This will show you if all areas of the digitizer are working. Press your options button to get the menu.
On mine Evo3d the problem started with it randomly starting to start programs or even make a few calls. I now figure that is from the digitizer acting up and behaving as if there was touches in the problem area which happens to cover the stripe of screen about from 1 to 2cm up from the bottom. 0 to 1cm is ok, then 1 to 2cm is bad, then the rest of the screen is ok. What has happened over time is that section of screen no longer seems to trigger phantom touch behavior but it does not register horizontal movement. On the Draw program vertical lines draw fine, horizontal ones leave nothing. Lines drawn at an angle skip and leave vertical lines across the defective area. Unlocking the phone with the Sense ring became almost impossible and I missed numerous calls. Even now that I switched to the slider unlock it is almost all in the bad zone and I have occasional problems getting the phone unlocked.
References are phone held vertical.
The problem originally happened on the stock rom, rooted. I figured it was a software thing so wiped the phone and took the opportunity to install LeeDroid. The problem still exists.
Using the calibration tool or any of several other suggestions does nothing.
Oddly touching keys works for typing and even SlideIT keyboard works though the line it leaves jumps around like crazy. I can't play some games that require that area of the screen. On programs that allow rotating I can usually get it to work as this moves the problem to a different area.
I really don't like friends with iPhones and other brands laughing at my phone.
I started searching Google and there are a LOT of other complaints going back several years and on numerous models, but no real solution. I am disappointed that the response from HTC seems to be that failures are within what they consider acceptable because the solution seems to be return the phone as it is a hardware failure though they do not admit to it. Some people report having the problem within a week on a phone that they left completely stock to see if it really was a user software thing. Some have had the replacement phones quit within a short time as well which makes you wonder if they even replace the digitizer when they recondition them. The actual complaint probably never makes it to the tech so if it works good for 10 seconds out it goes.
I am not very happy with the 'return it' solution since I have a $25 Zagg protector on the screen I will lose and it takes time to set up a new phone, and from the sounds of things the replacement isn't a guaranteed fix. Finding out that it is a known quality control issue that is still present after numerous years has soured me on HTC. If it was a rare occurrence I could understand but not when I read so many reports.
My last flip phone was indestructible and from Samsung. After all the hassles with crappy charge connectors and keyboard contacts from dust at work on a Motorola flip it was a true pleasure. I intend my next phone will be Samsung.

@mugsaway
when you need to type those keys in the dialer try turning your phone sideways as the dialer should rotate.

S4 crashing and restarting

Hi everyone,
I acquired a Galaxy S4 that apparently worked but had a broken screen. I replaced the screen and initially seemed to work but quickly noticed it keeps crashing and restarting. It seems to happen after it has been on about 20 minutes, it can work fine, I tested with youtube videos and the longest it worked for was 30 minutes before freezing. Sometimes it can crash even as it is starting up.
Most times it crashes the screen will freeze and completely lock up the device for a few seconds, then turn off, vibrate and restart. Rarely but sometimes, the graphics on the screen will turn different colours and show lines just before restarting.
I have updated the firmware via Odin using a stock rom from sammobile, I have not tried doing anything to the kernell.
The last thing I tried is to clean the motherboard PCB with some PCB cleaner and did a low temperature (about 200degC) attempt at a reflow, but I don't think I did anything long enough to solve any potentially dry or cracked joints as I was worried I would just damage the motherboard all together.
I suspect it would be a dry joint but I have no idea.
I would absolutely love to have this phone working, can anyone offer any advice?
many thanks,
Graham
I'm sure it's not helpful at all, but it sounds like an overheating issue. Does the device get hot before it reboots?
My old Galaxy Nexus experienced these issues after I flashed and overclocked it, and changed the governor. It would get so hot it was almost uncomfortable to touch. Then it would reboot and would be fine for about an hour. Rinse and repeat.
Just as a test, Liquid stable just released, so maybe try flashing that through goo manager and then use performance control to underclock the processor. See if the amount of time between reboots increases?

Thank you, it does not get hot at all before freezing. I will give liquid stable a go when I finish work, can't hurt to try!

Just as a side note, GPS is buggy and handsfree headphones won't work for me. If you decide to flash, turn off wifi locationing and then GPS will work.

I just tried to put liquid stable on my phone, did not try via goomanager since I don't have it, but sent it as an adb sideload while in cwm recovery, it failed to install and now my phone does not turn on, just stuck on Samsung logo, so now I am reflashing stock rom again.
thanks
I have it turning on again now, but most times it actually freezes on the loading screen and half way through the welcome noise. I will test how long it can survive in recovery mode.
When it did turn on I went into camera and started recording to see how long it would last. Strangely enough it crashed during recording but the camera itself was still working and the screen was updating with the camera, however all buttons were unresponsive, the home and return buttons wouldn't even light up, and the recorder time was stuck on 4 seconds. I had to turn it off by holding the power button for about 10 seconds.. maybe this could be useful information for someone to diagnose?

I just noticed from a different post on the Liquid 2.4 thread that the original post was for GSIII (WTF?). If you feel lucky and want to try again, here's the link off of goo and the MD5 is 72b3e6cc79f298f85b8e21f99a990b90.

And the only thing wrong with it was the screen? Two days after I got my S4 I went hiking and got it wet (shame on me) but the unresponsiveness sounds just like water damage. Are any of the moisture sensors tripped?

The screen is perfect, no moisture sensors tripped. I know the screen was a working one, and as far as I am aware the only problem with this phone is the screen was smashed. I have checked the motherboard and it doesn't seem to be damaged. But if it was I would expect it not to work at all?
The crashing doesn't seem to be due to holding it or moving it, it just happens regardless if its resting untouched etc.
It has now restarted about 10 times in the past few minutes, sometimes as soon as I hear the vibrate to signal it is turning on, because it vibrates 2 or 3 times in the space of a few seconds.
It definitely seems to be getting worse!
It seems to sit in recovery mode as long as it likes though..

Desire 610

I'm running out of places to go to and well, I have a simple problem with the phone itself.
I left the phone charging overnight and this morning I went to take it out and it was off. I tried turning it on, nothing happen. I tried plugging it to my USB charger than my other wall charger, nothing. I took the back off and checked the battery, nothing significant that I could tell had changed.
Some background, the touchscreen is a bit weird, the way left side of the screen does not respond, it was like that when I got from a friend. There are currently four hairline cracks (from dropping it multiple of times.). Everything else I have one seemed fine, though.
Well, the left side of the screen not responding is a problem with the digitizer, which tracks your fingerprints, telling the phone basically what to do when you touch the screen, but does the charging light go on when you plug it into a charger? If it does, its probably just the screen itself, which means you need a new screen, if it doesn't go on, its probably more than just a screen repair you looking for
---------- Post added at 07:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:22 PM ----------
Also, dropping it multiple times does have the chance of damaging some important internal stuff

Yeah like I said, its more than just a screen replacement your looking for. It would be less time and money to just get a new phone honestly

G5 power button stops working. Fingerprint scanner stops& disappears in settings

Power button / fingerprint scanner just stopped working on my LG G5 yesterday.
Don't know if it's related or not, but it seemed like I had just wiped the phone clean with a Wet-Nap just prior to the button failure.
Weird, because I've been using Wet-Naps to frequently clean all of my phones for years,
and never had an issue before. I attached a pic of a Wet-Nap for reference below.
Also, when I go in to SETTINGS and search FINGERPRINT, nothing comes up in the SETTINGS for adding or removing fingerprints.

As of this morning:
-the "fingerprint" option has returned to my settings
-the fingerprint scanner will unlock and turn on the phone again after going through the setup process again
- the power button will NOT turn OFF the phone's screen anymore
Anyone else having similar issues ???
Any explanations ????
(my LG G5 is 100% stock and unmodified)
same issue here, factory data reset still not working. Support apparently has not experienced this yet
Same here. Fingerprint unlock still works but zero life in the button itself. Resorting to double tap to wake/sleep, but pretty irritating.
I have a little dent near the button, maybe I dropped it, not sure...
I just got this problem today after tmobile pushed the latest software to my phone a couple of days ago.
Had this happen to me today. First g5 says unable to use fingerprint, if this persists, restart phone. It did, and I did, to no avail. Then the option was gone from settings, power button worked to wake, but no scan, and had to use pattern. Pulled battery for ten mins, same. Cleared all caches, same. Then when I frankly went to resort to a factory reset I was told I had 27% battery and needed at least 30% to reset. So I swapped batteries to my spare and boom, all was working, and has been for about twenty hours now. I put my old battery in my phone and the problem was back, swapped back, back to perfect working order. I have two spare batteries for a totally of three. 2 work fine, and the other brings back the problem. I trashed it. How a battery can correlate to this, I'm not sure, but it worked for me...
Omg same thing. Ever since t mobile put a update my fingerprint was not working. Then it wont show up in the settings. Now fingerprint showed up and i fixed it. Now power button doesn't work and I can't take screen shots
Same here on my H850.
I also cleaned my phone by using some wet naps and after a couple of days the button did not recognize every click but still had some live.
Now the button is completely unresponsive. But the finger print scanner is working flawless.
If this is firmware related, the button should still work in TWRP while it might be broken on the real system, right
BTW did someone else fix this by changing the battery beside the one who post this solution ^^ ? And did someone try to turn on the phone when it's powered off? Just in case, does this phone start while charging or connected to the Computer ?
Kind regards from Germany

That is a link to how to turn it on without the power button.
The same problem occurred to my G5. Everything was working fine last night, but when I woke up the power button and the fingerprint scanner are not working. The options for the fingerprint lock are also gone in settings. Does this problem go away on its own? What were your solutions to it?
Hey !
What i tried to do is to replace the button myself.
Piece part is easy to find on the internet, and, with the correct set tools, the phone isn't very hard to open.
However, if replacing the button makes the power button working again, it didn't bring the fingerprint sensor to life (No't the hardware Sensor, and no't the settings menu option)
See I have the same problem just woke up and it stopped working only mine still does the fingerprint and will still wake when pushed but won't shut off when pushed, not loose and hasn't been dropped or gotten wet. Happened shortly after an update, any idea how to fix it?
guys how to enable double tap to sleep?
Also am not surprised you got broken power buttons, I already noticed on my G5 it doesnt feel well made and liable to break.
can you guys tell the production date?
6xxk?
i got a g5. i'm aware because someone i know bought g5 and it's power button died in 2 months. and came back to life with no reason lol
i wont even press that button... i think lg will start producing good phones(built q) in lg g7
Try the app "Wave to Unlock" it uses the proximity sensor to lock/unlock the phone.
Works like a charm, if you tune the app well.

That feature existed since Marshmallow

I know, I never said it's something you enable.
My power button also died, but it was pretty easy to fix. I just took apart the phone and cleaned the contacts with rubbing alcohol. It seems to be a design flaw where the pressure connections between the back panel and the mainboard are not solid enough.
The entire procedure took less than 10 minutes. Remove sim tray, remove battery, remove the 2 screws you find. Slip an old credit card between the outside of the case and the inside, and lift the two pieces apart. See the teardown on iFixit for better instructions.
I am seeing the same issue as of recently. The fingerprint is working fairly consistently, but the power button is not working to turn the screen off or to turn the phone off or onto airplane mode. The phone is still fairly new and has not been dropped or dented, nor has it gotten wet or been wiped down.
Anybody find a fix yet?...

Screen Not Waking Properly

Just got the Verizon V30 and I do have AOD on. When I put the phone to sleep with power or knock off I have trouble waking it up. It appears the screen goes off totally when I flip it over or put it in my pocket. Whe I pull it out of the pocket it will not wake up with power button or knock on taps for a good 20 seconds or more.
I cannot find a setting to stop the screen for totally going off when I pocket the phone. I can confirm that I do NOT have the smart lock feature enabled. I’m just using a PIN code unlock, no facial or voice recognition. I really like the phone but I can’t have this happening every time I take it out of my pocket or turn it over on the couch.
Any ideas?
Thanks for reading.

Do you have any screen protector on the phone? Any battery saver apps or settings? In my experience the AOD is suppose to go off when turned over or put in a pocket. I haven't seen a way to change that. Mine might take a couple seconds to awaken, but never 20 seconds.

I have my since December from last year and only now it started to behave like that.. I don't know if it is a software issue or hardware issue of some kind. I've tested the sensors and they appear to be fine.. I will try to do a backup of my data and perform a hard reset to see if it helps, but I'm not counting on it...
I don't use AOD. Just try it to reproduce the problem. Maybe my V30 get the same problems after long term use of it.
The only problem i get random with screen is, that after a restart the colors get crazy there are not normal after enabling Comfort View all get back normally but it is a other story.

I did some tests (issue of being a former Senior QA Engineer). I've tried disabling the AOD and the same thing happened. What I just did is disabling the Knock-On feature.
I need to test it more thoroughly but the issue didn't happen after that.. YET. I need to go somewhere, with the phone in my pockets for a longer period (even though by now I should've seen the issue again) just to be sure and even trying to enable the Knock-On back again.. But let's see..
As for the colors, I really can't say much because I've never used the comfort view feature (I usually just dim down the brightness at night and that's all).
Yeah test it i will it do too. I enabling the AOD and say you next day when i get some problems.
I testing AOD since yesterday and dont get any problem until now.

I still need to try the Comfor Color to see if it happens here. Is only that I always forget to try.
With mine the AOD worked well since day one. I did some things that seemed to have fixed somehow...
I've removed the device from the case I was using (a simple thin one). gave it a good cleaning, forced the power button for a while because I was feeling it was getting stucked. It seemed to keep showing issues HOWEVER, after I disabled the Knock-On feature, left it off for a while it stopped to have issues. I enabled it again and now it is working perfectly... I don't know if it was a coincidence or a sum of all factors.. but now it seems to be working...

I don't know if it was a coincidence or a sum of all factors.. but now it seems to be working...
