PRIME Rooted! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

"Sure, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime won’t actually ship in the US for a few more weeks, but when it does it looks like you’ll be able to root the first tablet with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core processor on the day it arrives.
Android Central’s Phil Nickinson received a review unit from Asus, and discovered that you can root it with a one-click tool called Razorclaw. All you have to do is download and install the APK file on your tablet and run it.
Razorclaw was designed to work on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider, but apparently it works just as well on the new Transformer Prime."
I don't have my "8" post in yet for a newbie on this forum so must do it the hard way!
Read about it here:

Get the software here:

that was quick and easy.

This is great news bit I hope the Asus people don't see this and find someway to close it up just as fast. I already have razor claw APK. Stored in my iPad for when I thought I was going to get original transformer. So it'll still work once I get the prime. All I have to do is email the APK. To the Prime, from my iPad, install, and BAM! I'm rooted. Lol. I might wait though till after ICS. oTA updates won't work after you root and too much hassle to initially go thru with ICS being so close. I'd rather have ICS rooted than honeycomb. ICS is the largest update/change in Android since it began. It's a merging of gingerbread and honeycomb, hence the sandwich name. A most everything is changed/optimized with ICS and more.

Being new to the Transformer arena, I take it there is NO way to unroot Razorclaw? If OTA updates does not work after rooted, how do you get updates?

I think it can be unrooted if I remember right from cruising the original transformer threads. As far as OTA updates go, there's supposedly some tool or something to allow it or at least keep your root after OTA update. Thing is most of the time OTA updates always throw up errors on rooted devices. The OTA update contains some type of language or files or something that checks for stock/OEM stuff and checks to make sure no changes made to internal hardware programming or whatever. Once it does detect a change, it'll through up the that android error with icon and exclamation mark. Now what ive seen people/developers up here do is take that firmware/OTA amd take out the piece that checks for original stuff to still be the same. Or even if Asus has the site support for updates, it would work through there. I know like my Atrix phone is rooted and OTA update to gingerbread always throwing up errors on me. But if I wanted to I could go to motorola site and install the update thru the pc and it will work since it doesn't contain that extra coding the OTA update has to make sure everything is stock. Going thru motorola site to update overrides all of that. Hopefully Asus has the same or I'm sure people up here will have updates here to flash to your device once they take out the unneeded pieces.
Also if someone more knowledgeable can give more insight into this, please do. Or of I'm incorrect on some pieces, please correct me as don't want any confusion or misleading info. This is just what vie gathered from owning my Arix rooted and reading the original transformer forums extensively.

You are still able to get OTA after rooting. What usually breaks OTA is removing Asus system apps. If you root, then freeze the apps with Titanium. You will get the benefit of freeing up memory of the apps you do not want, but allowing you to still get ICS OTA.

Tuning in to this thread to see the outcome when I get my Prime!

That's right. With system apps meaning bloatware?

Screw rooting, lets get the bootloader unlocked, flash CM9 when it comes out, and who care about the OTA update at that point.

correct, well, any change to the ROM will result in the OTA failing, but just root access doesn't cause it to fail, but it may break root in the process of updating.

I've asked this question on androidroot.mobi about this possibility.
For the moment, no answer.

I'm pretty excited about the notion of rooting my future precious but I'm guessing we'll all be too busy drooling over it for a while... once it gets into our hands.

Your question already been answered and conformed here. Just check out the links. Plus we even have link to the Razorclaw APK. Tool needed to root it. All you have to do is install it on the Prime and run it. No PC needed at all for rooting. Now of you want to unlock boot loader to flash a custom rom, PC will be needed. People already have original transformer over clocked n optimized so I can see the same and more easily being possible with the Prime.
Edit: lol I see you already own original transformer so you should already know the great things they doing with it in that section of forum.

That's true, I have had no problem for rooting my TF101 with Brk Tools, but about the new TF201, nobody had to try rooting the new Prime with Razorclaw One click.
So how are you sure that we can root the Prime with this tool ?
I know, the Prime get out with HC 3.2.
That's why I've posted this question on Razorclaw forum.
You make only an supposition.
And if you read the OP, nowhere , you find Transformer Prime words.
[Tool]Razorclaw - One click Root for all ASUS Transformers, 3G and Slider(16-11-2011)
At the moment, if you find someone who's sure to rooting a Prime, I say OK.
Have you tried to root a Transformer ?

Well according to THIS thread, the Razorclaw does work on the new TS Prime

Hmm, it worked for Unknowns on display model at GameStop. Maybe that update had something to do with it. Hopefully someone help you soon. Did you use the most current tool version? Or find out what version unknowns used to root the display model.

I didn't do a system info snapshot sorry. It just worked; that 3rd line just said root was successful. Maybe someone can get the system info from the system dump I provided.

[Q] A little clarity needed please (about unlocking, rooting and OTA updates)

Hi.
I got my prime a few days ago and would like it rooted so that I can use more of my favourite apps.
I've read lots of posts on the topic but they are written by members who have been following the development of unlocking/rooting methods and they reference too many conditions/methods/techniques that I'm not sure about because I'm a noob to the prime and ICS scene.
I am aware that I can unlock my prime's bootloader but I had my fingers burned doing this with my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc; it left me unable to use OTA updates and I could have rooted without it (which was all I wanted).
So, can I root my Prime without unlocking the bootloader?
And just to complicate things a little more I'm using ICS 9.4.2.21...
If there is already a detailed guide to this then my apologies, I couldn't find it so please point me that way. If there isn't one maybe someone would be kind enough to fill me in on the basics and bring me up to speed on the current state of play?
Thanks for any help in advance
Yes, you are correct. Unlocking the Prime WOULD VOID THE WARRENTY, and you would also not be able to use the OTA updates.
Rooting WILL BE possible (hopefully). We used to be able to root the older versions, but ASUS "plugged" the exploit. We have to wait till they find a new exploit and then we will be able to root the prime....If it works like the earlier mods, you will need to use Voodo Rootkeeper after rooting, because the next update will probably get rid of the root and will need that app to re-establlish the root.
You will be able to use Ota updates after rooting, as long as you don't change any of the "delivered" files...If you change some, you will need to restore the originals before updating.....or the update will fail.

Yes. It is possible to root a Prime without unlocking it's bootloader, if it's running any version other than the .21 (The one you have).
I rooted my Prime when I got it (Honeycomb came preinstalled), and now I'm running ICS .21 version, bootloader locked and I'm rooted.
But sadly, for your situation, there isn't any way to achieve root without unlocking the bootloader.
If you unlock your bootloader, you can't take OTA's (As far as I've heard, as it results in hardbricks and failures).
If you want to have root at the moment, you will have to unlock your bootloader using ASUS's official tool, and then flash CWM, and flash a ROM that is pre-rooted, which will then also give you root.

Bugger! But thanks guys, I guess I'll just have to be patient. One of the main reasons I root is to use ad blocking apps. Does anyone know of an add blocker that doesn't need root access?

As root blocking apps access the hosts file within the root directory it's nigh impossible to block ads without access, For website ad blocking you can use chrome or firefox addons

[Q]unlocked device and OTA

I know this is a question which has been asked over and over....
I did not realize what is the different of unlock and root until I unlocked my prime with the official tool.
I only unlocked it. I did neither root it nor change anything else in it.
would it still available to perform OTA? I have receive different answers from different website, some say yes, some say no. Does anyone know the answer for sure?
Also, since I saw there are rom downloads available on asus official website, will I be able to upgrade my prime OS manually?
Much Thanks!!
No, you wont be able to receive OTA updates, nor should you install an official ASUS file, it will brick your device.
If you flash a custom ROM, chances are you have features in that ROM that aren't available in the OTA releases anyway. Still, if you want the latest from ASUS, many devs usually have a ROM based on the current ASUS firmware out within a day or two.
Thanks so much for your answer. If you don't mind, please help me a little bit more.
Additional question is that. If I did make it become a brick, will it still show that Asus logo with "this device is unlocked " when I turn it on?.or will is really be like one found in water, having no reaction at all?
also, what is the benefit of a user to upgrade their os version? I feel the benefit when i unlock my phone , but also realized that these mods also have problems such like battery runs out fast. is there a good rom out there you would recommend?

Help with .28 to JB updating

Hello fellow transformer prime users,
I have been looking over many threads on how to update to JellyBean and have not come to the decision of whether I should update at the current moment or wait. The reason I feel uncomfortable with updating is that I soft bricked my prime when I did the .21 to .28 update, all due to my human error of not triple checking over myself. Thankfully I have superior knowledge of the android system because I have been using Android since the G1 days (yup I am not a noob, but neither am I an expert in these things, you can say that I am an intermediate power user). Fortunately I was able to unbrick using multiple methods and abd tricks that I found on these threads, and I truly thank everyone of the big guys out there for helping out though my difficult time. Although I had alot of fun in that ordeal, I surely DO NOT WANT TO GO OVER THAT HARDSHIP AGAIN (sorry but I have been emotionally scared for life).
Although it may seem that this post is question oriented I would like to note that it is mostly a plead for an update method suited for my particular setup.
On to the details:
At the current moment my prime is being used as a daily driver. It is my college life all bundled in to one awesome device.
Android version 4.0.3 ICS
It is rooted
it has IML74. US_epad-9.4.2.28.2-20120529 build
stock to the root <----get it.... its a joke
It has latest superuser
it has been backed up
Voodoo OTA root keeper shows 100%
The device is NOT UNLOCKED, it does not say that it is unlocked on start-up, ITS LOCKED
It has CWM 5.5.0.4
My first method of rooting was done though vipermods exploits
Last time I updated I just flashed the proper/suitable stock .28 build that I have now through CWM
At the current moment everything works wonderfully and I love this device.BUT I am afraid of bricking it...I have had bad dreams....BAD BAD NIGHTMARES....
So the question is...I mean comment...(sorry if this does not belong on here)...
What would be a best update method for my current setup
I thank all that help me out and apologize to the forum members and admins if this does not belong here...
I have made a video showing you my current setup youtu.be (sorry, delete this stuff, sorry) /xCQP6O1NpAY , thank you and I hope to soon be playing around with JB
I will also make a video of my update process so others with the same issue can follow my methods.

More info....
Before my .28 update with sparky's rom i had the .21 vipermod exploit....i had flashed cwm and updated my rom from the previous .18, and even before that i had root through vipermods initial root method.
I know my bootloader is locked, but how than is it posible for me to flash roms for unlocked bootloaders. The sparky rom that i flashed is supposedly for unlocked bootloaders.
I am sooooo confused....i dont want to brick my prime again.
More and more info.....
HOW I BRICKED IT BEFORE:
so i was on .21 and wanted to update to latest .28 build
I manually downloaded the stock.28 rom from asus website
I updated through icon on bottom right hand area...you know
All was going well then boooooom i got soft bricked with a bootloop
Did the popular unbrick method through abd then i found sparkys rom.
Flashed sparkys rom through cwm (i uploaded the rom through this abd command file mover thing i found on another xda forum whiles in cwm)
Flashed and installed perfectly
Ok now what should i do....unlock my device and twrp recovery it or whatever its called and then go from there?
Or just wait....i dont know where to start...and frankly i am very displeased with the amount of clarity out of the top guides out there....and all i see is a plethora of bricked devices...sad face...
Ok once again Thank You for your time and efforts.
SpeedV
Hey, could you please give some more information and links about the cwm you used and which popular adb unbrick method?
Weired issue...i heard about perfectly unlocked primes, about primes with locked bootloader "forever" (like my device), but never heard anything about an invisible unlock after softbrick...
Maybe somebody can figure out where "the magic" happened...

I just replied to you but my post did not go through....i spend a good hour finding stuff out for an answer....and now all gone....
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ok simple answer: I unlocked device...I think through a vipermod primetime release that had it...i think v4 unlock tool don't remember
was on .11 then on .18 then to .21 now on .28
did root with vipermod, and installed cwm in .18 or .21 dont remember
got bricked when i manually updated to .28 from download from asus site
think that there is a method of binging back primes that are bricked
using quick abd pusher...thats what i used in cwm to get sparky's rom on prime and flashed
now working
I really dont give a damn anymore...I hate xda forums right now soooooo bad. I just wasted 1 HOUR, or even more 1+ hours with a perfect reply and all gone because of the stupid forum....
sorry man
I'm done

[Q] How to determine which AndroidWook instructions to follow...

Afternoon all,

I got confused there for a minute but you are talking about Androwook 2.1 and not Androwook Hairybean 2.1.
By the Android version number you are still on ICS.
I would highly advise that you go thru the nvflash process first as you can only do it while on ICS and it makes you brick proof.
Once you have done that you just have to follow the instructions in the Hairybean thread for 2.2 which will upgrade your bootloader and recovery and then flash the rom.
I'd wait a week tho as 2.3 is due soon.

Androwook was based off ICS. When it switched to Jellybean it became Androwook HairyBean.
nvflash is definitely worth it mate. There are people on here who would kill to go back to ICS so they could nvflash backup

My query is somewhat related, and apologies before it it has previously been addressed in another thread, so I won't start a new thread for my related query.
I have just purchased an ex-display model Asus EeePad Prime here in the UK on eBay for about the third of the price as a new one. So far, all seems to be working and running fine, dongleless Wi-Fi included, but I have a question.
As soon as I turned on Wi-Fi and connected with my router, my Asus Prime started 'automatically' downloading what I assume is (the latest) firmware, I couldn't find a way to cancel the download (no user-manual, unfortunately), so I immediately turned off Wi-Fi, as I have no idea what version firmware my Prime is downloading. Right at the moment, it's running stock 4.0.3, but I don't want it downloading some firmware that I may regret at some point later. So, may I ask, is it advisable to let the firmware download and do its thang, or wait for another, different or better firmware. I am totally new to using tablets and my only other Android device is a Samsung Galaxy S3 running JB 4.1.2,
Without reading through an online manual (probably a fruitless exercise anyway) or wading though hundreds of forum posts, would one of you more experienced in firmware than I, be good enough to advise me about which is the best, most stable firmware I should be running on my Asus Prime, as well as how to disable automatic firmware updates (I couldn't find an option for that in the settings yet), and any more cautionary steps I should be advised to take before I mess up or brick my new tablet....OR point me to a thread that already has the answers to my questions here?
I'm finding this a bit frustrating, as obviously, I can't use Wi-Fi for anything else until I have an answer as to how to stop automatic downloading of firmware via Wi-Fi.....help?!?
Many thanks before.

You are still on ICS and at the moment you can make nvflash backups that will make you completely brickproof. It will also allow you to go back to ICS from jellybean if you wanted to which people without the backups cannot do.
I would highly advise that you make these backups before upgrading anything.
You will need an unlocked bootloader to be able to do nvflash.

Thanks for that tidbit, certainly something I'll need to look into (after finding 'Nerves of Steel' <g> ).....but more concerned about disabling this (unknown) firmware update auto-downloading first?.......Diolch i ti ffrind!
NB.
Guess I should read up as much as I can on AndroWook too, eh?
Oddly, the automatic firmware update OTA download has (thankfully) stalled/stopped/stuck at 23% and I have no idea what I did to stop it downloading or even how. Anyone got a clue to help me figure it out? All other downloads via Wi-Fi are working as they should.
But, saying the firmware download has stopped, is there any way that anyone knows off to cancel/delete the 23% of it that has been automatically downloaded and taking up valuable space on my internal memory, please? (I'm guessing I'd need to root my Prime to do that?)
One last important (important to me anway lol), question.....is it advisable or not to make those nvflash backups before of after rooting my ICS 4.0.3 firmware (I was thinking of using 'Viper' to root it, or maybe you guys can suggest a better application to use?), or won't rooting it before I've made those backups make any difference? Please advise, thanks.
Hope that's not too many dumb questions, but hope one of you if good and has time enough to answer them for me........ANYone......please??

Noob Needs Help Updating TF201 to Lollipop 5.0..... I'm lost

Hi all,
I really need to get lollipop on my Transformer Prime I know my way around the tablet pretty well but am new to ROMs and rooting. I've done some very basic stuff by following youtube videos but cannot figure out how to update it to lollipop. Everytime I read instructions on the forums I get completely lost. I am a pilot and have been using my TF201 for 4 years now for flying. The app I use isn't compatible with my old firmware anymore. I would really appreciate if someone would be kind enough give me some very dumbed down instructions on how to update my device's firmware. It's either I figure out how to do this, or go broke on a new tablet. Your guy's help would do me a huge solid. For the purposes of this I already factory reset my tablet to undo my current rooting mess and updated it back to version stock 4.1.1

When it comes to ROMs there are a few things I always do, first make a backup of any files you might need should you manage to brick your tablet (search the forums, theres plenty of info on how to do it) then have a full nandroid backup of your current working setup to revert to should a brick happen (this can be done through your Recovery Program {TWRP,CWM} and I do it twice for good measure) then update any software you might need to in order to install the ROM of your choice then follow the install instructions for the ROM you want to install. I think for Lollipop KatKiss is probably one of the best if not the best Lollipop ROM, I have used it for a couple weeks and had no issues. I am currently running a BETA of marshmallow which has some weird issues on my Prime, so I would say Marshmallow is not yet there in terms of stable everyday use, but in due time it will be. Hope it helps, feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

Chards, I'm a pilot too! Good luck with the root. In a nutshell, you need to do the "Flatline" method to get nvflash enabled. Follow their tutorial and make all the backup files... really. After that you're bullet proof. From there use the nvflash guide to upgrade the bootloader to Hairy bean. No you can't just flash it. You can't downgrade it... nothing. The only way to get the hairybean bootloader is to "unblob" it and flash it directly with nvflash. After that, follow the instructions over at taconikki's threads. Pick 5.0 or his new 6.0. Just follow their directions and you'll be all set. Best of luck!
