lol sorry but if you want a high quality tablet, this is not for you.. this is a great tablet to jump into the tablet game because of the low-cost but comeon now... its not that powerful..

Hahaha these little crap tablets give Android a bad name! They're saturating the market with low-price, low functionality tablets that virtually NO ONE wants. When it comes to cheap tablets I'm pretty sure the Fire and the Nook will be king (but mostly the Fire), so there's really no reason to have these things. They give ifans a reason to bash Android IMO.

This actually looks better than the Fire to me. I might be a buyer for my 7 year old...Why not? It doesn't look terrible. Wonder if it is completely 100% lead-free? lol

I'm cool with this. Cheaper tablets give us more options. There are people who basically just want a tablet to read ebooks and play the occasional angry birds. That's what's Android all about. Having options.

LOL, looks like asus slacked for too long and got beat by some cheap china tablet company...
You snooze, U loose!
Ohwell, atleast when the prime finally does come out it will have ICS hopefully right around the corner, and hopefully it will make the diffrence we all been looking for.

That chinglish makes my head ache, coming from a Chinese guy.

Lol, Asus is pissed already, but this will kick it
But unfortunatly there are no measurments on the page.
It looks pretty thick.
So what are the dimensions, how much does it weight?
Also it says it is already sold out when I click to order it.

I don't see that it's selling today, I see it's claiming to be the 1st ICS tablet. No different than Asus Prime has been claiming. The race is on to who will be the first to actually be the first to deliver one to a customer

well, it isn't the first Craplet device..

Different options for different budgets. That's not such a bad thing. But keep in mind this $100 tablet comes with a $60 shipping charge that makes it not so great afterall.

New Amiga Tablets: Look Familiar?

Some of you may remember the old Commodore Amiga- It was a PC in the 80/90's that introduced things like multitasking, multimedia, and coprocessed graphics when they weren't commonplace and sold about 6 million units. The brand has long since died, although it still has a band of fanatical followers who insist it will rise again.
I was surfing the web and ran across this. Look familiar?

Heh awesome.
I wonder if they did any adjustments to the UI to make it more 'amiga -like' or their own launcher called "workbench".
I'd buy that.
So much nostalgia for Amiga, but then I guess I'm showing my age
OMG - Amiga adopted the G-Tablet!
Those specs are pretty much the G-tablet, right? Except they list an actual HDMI output and no full-sized USB host.
I had an Amiga 1000 in '85 and blew my friends away. Used it well into the '90s.
So ... a G-tablet with an Amiga ROM?
Interesting to say the least.
Did you guys know that someone has purchased Commodore and relaunched it as Commodore USA? Can't post a link but just google "Commodore USA"
Showing my age as well, I had one in HS and took it with me in the Navy. If anyone can pull that ROM and ports it to the G-Tab you'll make a lot of us ol'-timers happy. Perhaps a VEGAMIGA Rom? I can even see some vinyl design. I can perhaps setup some AI's for those with access to SignLab, or other cutting software - Lol.
Says OS is is 2.2 upgradeable to 3.0.
It's definately the GTab/Vega, and for $150 more than you can buy them for right now. I think I could buy an Amiga sticker a bit cheaper.
Based off of the info on the site, it's definitely Google Experience Android. The boot sequence on the 7" model looks cool, though:
Do they have a Vic 20 model (my first computer)? Maybe a 64 model?

Damnyou people are old.
Memory Lane
My family didn't have a lot of money when I was a kid so I couldn't afford an Amiga. Instead, I spent my summer job money on a Commodore 128 instead (with dual-sided floppy drive) and spent what was left over on my first car (1976 Plymouth Volare coupe V8) from a family friend. Ah... that brings back some really sweet memories...
I still have the 128. I haven't had the time to play with her in a few years and was looking for a good home for her since I can't give her the attention she deserves.
Original Amiga owner here (yeah old). Still have a boxed set.
In the news now is that The new Commodore is launching a c64 with new pc innards, blue ray etc. Looks just like the old one though, rumored to go around $700 to $800.
Saw that too. Rumoured to be a netbook in c64 clothing.
My family was soo poor that we could only afford the Texas Instraments TI-99a.
I remember spending a whole afternoon programming a polar bear walking across the screen. Then having no way to save my work after running it.
That and rhe knock off games of pacman and spy hunter.
Those were the days.

I have been corrected. You are right. I had read an article about a week ago that said the updated C-64 was going to look like the VIC-Slim. I guess the author of that article had jumped the gun and reported crap. Thanks for clearing that up.
Speaking of the Amiga, did anyone ever get decent emulation running for the Android? I'd love to have Workbench on my Gtab for giggles.
Never had an Amiga, although my Uncle had a few and was a huge fan for a while.
Heh. My family was so poor, my first computer was a second hand Trash-80 from a garage sale.
Still got it, somewhere! Tape drive is kaput, though.

Which to get?

OK, so i have 600 dollars to give my self a nice present, and i think its time to get a tablet. I have always loved the concept of it and finally have the money to buy one. This will be my first tablet ever. My question is, should i get the normal transformer or the prime? I know the prime is way better but then again if i get the transformer i am saving up 200 dollars, but the prime is so sexy and who wouldn't want quad-core? please help!

What answer do you expect from a sub-forum full of people wanting the Prime?
Get the Prime if you have the money to spend.
I sold my transformer to get a prime. Go for it. If you are spending a bunch of money, might as well get the latest and greatest which won't get outdated as quick as the older model.
Sent from my Galaxy S2
I have to suggest the Prime. Not only do I love mine, it's much more future-proof. With Tegra-3 graphics being as awesome as they are, I'm sure more and more games will be made for them. Of course, as happened with Tegra 2, most phones will end up with it, and eventually a large part of the Android community will have a Tegra 3 device. At that point, support for Tegra 2 will slowly dwindle as people want bigger and prettier games. Getting a Tegra 3 device now will guarantee you can enjoy every software title, at least until something bigger and badder comes out, like Tegra 4, which we can only speculate a release for. Safe to assume Tegra 3 will keep you in the loop for quite a while, though.
Plus, the Prime is sexy. Really sexy.

At this point, anyone buying a new Wi-Fi tablet should get the Prime. With ICS coming out and higher performance chips you'll start to see applications introduced and optimized for it that won't run or will run poorly on older devices. The only question you should ask yourself is it worth waiting to see the timing and availibility of new tablets announced at CES on January 11th.
I think you should donate it to your favorite charity, or the nearest soup kitchen. The best present is one that helps someone in need...

Thats a very beautiful Asian woman!
To op, get the 32gb prime n you still have about $100 left over. its more than worth it.
I really debated this for myself as well. I wasn't sure i liked the colors or the thinness of the Prime while I held the tf101. I ended up with the TFP and when I opened the box I was more than pleased but still not 100% sure about the Prime. That was Wednesday. Now after a few days with this thing I could not be happier. I have barely set it down. My laptop spends its days and nights silently weeping in the corner or being consoled by my non-tablet-owning wife.

Considering ordering a Prime. Would you do it again?

Hey all!
My wife and I are in the market for tablets. Both of us are in school. We both want to be able to watch movies including Netflix. And we both need the ability to create and modify Word docs.
I've been doing a lot of research and think the Prime might be the best solution for us. However, the iPad is also a contender.
If you had to do it over again, which would you get and why?
Thanks for your input!
Why ask why?

i would do it again. reasons? it is more powerful than ipad2, once some software comes out that utilizes it, it will be even more of a beast. the dock adds a whole world of utility to this tablet. also, I think it is the best looking tablet.

Yep what he said.
I would do it again without hesitation. Apple devices are locked down, and therefore restrictive. With an Android tablet, you can do much much more!
It can also be customized to make it your own! Without hesitation, YES- I would do it again...
By far the best tablet I have ever owned and used. Blows the ipad 2 away in my opinion and the gaming is just amazing.

I agree 100%
i would do it again, the biggest reason for using it over an ipad2 is the dock, if you're planning to do a decent amount of word processing on a tablet, the TF line with their respective docks provide the best user experience in that regard compared to any other tablet on the market.
if i had to do it again id wait for ics. Im not overly impressed with the prime. I think once apps and os can be optimized for quadcore then it will be the best tablet. But for now most apps and HC are not so you wont see a significant difference.

I know I am digging this up from a while ago, but...Would you still do it? I just ordered one from HHgregg for the $399 price ($411 with shipping). I have been watching these forums and doing research but I jumped at the lower price..so I ask you...
Would you buy this again? If not at full retail, then at the 399 price?
Edit: I'm pretty sure this should be in Q&A...Sorry about that, I just dug it up using the similar thread functionality

So...what is the speed potential for this baby?

I've got a Galaxy S2, at stock. I love it. I sold my eee pad a month after I got it because it was just too SLOW compared to my phone... :/
Now...after months of learning android and cyanogenmod more... I want to know, if a galaxy tab 10.1... With custom roms and overclocking, can it beat my phone?
I average 3200 on quadrant. Most apps pretty much open instantly.
I used a Galaxy Tab in the store once...and it was...just completely sad. It struggled to load animations, and just looked horrible compared to my phone.
I'm really just looking for a super light, super fast 10 inch tablet. So I am curious to know if this could be it. Can anyone shed some light on performance?
Look for a quad-core tegra 3 tablet. The galaxy tab 10.1 is last year's hardware and struggles with some things. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but if I were to buy a new android tablet right now, it would probably be the Asus TF300t, or another tegra 3 tablet. for $500+, I'd probably get an ipad or the new TF700 with the 1080p screen when that comes out.

Well, I was hoping to stay under 350, I was thinking a last gen tablet, just overclocked with cyanogenmod. But...maybe I am pushing it too far
With pershoot's kernel, you can set this thing up to 1.4Ghz. The ICS roms that are out there help make it much snappier, but as previously stated: this is already old hardware. For the money you'd spend, it's a great tablet. I am quite happy with mine. Had the option been available when I bought my tab, I would have gone for the transformer prime instead...mainly because of the quad-core and the sd-card slot.

The new Asus TF300t is $379 at most local retailers. For just a bit more than your $350 budget, you can have a quad core tab with expandable memory (SD slot). Not quite as nice as the Gtab 10.1 (the asus has a plastic back), but the performance makes up for that imo.
I recently got a galaxy nexus and my experience with ICS persuaded me to finally try some custom ROMs on my tab. The difference between stock and ICS with pershoot's kernel is unbelievable. My last quadrant score was 3487 and I'm normally right around there. If I was running CM9 instead of AOKP I'd probably be able to get it higher than that consistently. The ROMs are only going to get better as well. All that being said though, the hardware is a bit old. I don't have any issues with my tab's performance anymore but I would still evaluate other options.
Here's my Quadrant score running CM9 and the kernel that install with it.

Still worth buying a Nexus 9?

So guys, I would like to buy my first tablet, and i'm indecised between shield k1 and Nexus 9, I was also thinking about the galaxy tab s2 9.7 but it's too pricey for what it offers IMHO. I'll use the tab mainly for media consumption (heavy games, browsing, movies, emails).
From I first started researching infos about the Nexus 9 it's immediatly appeared all the frequent issues that comes with this device (Light bleed and unoptimized performance) but all these things were related to the Lollipop version of android, and now with the Marshmallow/N version seems better, so this is my question: it's still worth to buy this device? Does the performance are really fixed now or there still many cases of lag/crashes (as appear to me)?
I really like "+1 inch size" than the shield but seems this device is just heavily compromised (as performace), and all these things are leading me to buy the Shield K1. As a final note, I like to use stock android version, and seems that with the Nexus 9 the real game change comes when you install a new ROM, do you confirm this?
Any input will be appreciated, so don't be afraid

Personally, as much as I adore my n9, I'd probably go k1. I prefer the size of the n9, the 4:3, great devs, and in hand feel. Other than that though, Google dropped the ball with Vulcan, and nVidia has been going great with updates.
I'm also interested in Lenovos new tablets.
@jimmix93 do yourself a favor and get a pixel c. It is worth the 100-150 dollars extra imo.

TBH, i'm in love with google pixel C, but I can only find it on Ebay on a very high price, not lower than 650 $, so that's why I choosed these two tablets, espcially the K1 for it's price.

Mee too i'm interested, but I don't think they will be at same level (as raw power) as K1 or Nexus 9. We'll see
I got mine off swapa for $200 a few months ago. personally I think it's still a relevant device. Turning encryption off, and a kernel with 2amp charging really helps. It takes out the frustration. Most complaints about the device come down to speed and charging.
Not over clocked my AnTuTu benchmark awhile ago on pre-released 7 was 101k. Remix 3 was around 95. On official N (no encryption, oc) getting 107k. My point is behind the benchmarks is it's keeping up with the devices still out there, and they're the only way to show over the Internet that it doesn't feel slow.

Personally I have the N9, my son the Nvidia, so I can compare...
When you want to stay 'standard' (no tweaking / custom ROM/Kernel) , buy the Shield. Standard out of the box working very well.
When you are not afraid to root, tweak en flash.... Buy the N9. Out of the box I was not satisfied about the snappiness and use custom kernels to fullfil it.
Suc6 choosing ?
