[Q] Nook Tablet: Connect / Disconnect Loop...:( - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Has anyone experienced a continuous connect, get IP, disconect, connect, get ip disconnect...
It's impossible to download anything if the Nook is disconnecting and connecting once every 3 secs....
Anyone had this problem as well?
Thanks,
Giz

Authentication failure?
That usually is the symptom of authentication failure:
Password or passprhase.
MAC lockout on the router (does your router block non-listed MAC addresses?).
Sadly, useful messages on authentication failures are not specific (for security reasons).

Hi,
Unfortunately, I do get an IP...and am able to start browsing, downloading stuff....etc...but after a couple of secs...the NT just goes crazy and enters this connect/disconnect loop....
I have even changed the WiFi protection from WPA2 into WEP,, changed router channel....changed from N into G....
Same problem always....get no problems with my laptops...
I have the router configured with DHCP enabled, so no static IP addresses defined...

Hi there,
I had some issue like that a year ago. All i had to do was to remove/forget all my favorite wifi networks and then add the one which caused my issue again.

Hi..
Don't know if this might help you...seems quite a problem on:

Look for the Thread...won-t-stay-connected-to-my-wi-fi/m-

You already tried different channels, etc, so sounds like a router/client compatibility problem. Just because your laptop connects doesn't mean everything will connect.
Bring Nook to a few places with wifi access and attempt connection. If it can't connect with any, it's a Nook problem, if it connects with some or all, it's your router problem.
If the latter, Google on your router's make & model and apply any firmware update found. Also search on "[router_make] disconnects" to see if there is a reported problem with the router.
As mentioned elsewhere, try setting router to G if currently using N. Some old router still use funky Draft 1.0 N standard. This goes in hand with firmware update suggestion above.
If that doesn't work, try a different router. [To minimize setup work, leave old router in place, and connect new router downlink from old. Disable routing on new to use it as AP only (old one does the routing). Set different channel for the AP, and point your Nook to it.]
If that doesn't work, give up. Return/exchange the Nook, and buy something else.

It's problably a router/NT incompatiblity issue....I have just got a stable WiFi connection at my workplace...but it's an open network which works like a hotspot where you have to use a login/password....
Hum, I have just now realised that I happen to own a NETGEAR DGN1000b router....having just gone to the NetGear's website, it looks like there is a known issue with Blackberry phones as well (I do have a blackberry Storm and get the same connect/disconnect behaviour as I am getting on the NT)...
Here's the link for everyone's reference: http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/12208
Cheap f***ing DSL/WiFi router.....I shouldn't expect much more from a router which costs 50EUR, but since the Router provided by TCom got toasted...
I'll try to update the firmware to the latest version (from Sep 2011)...Let's see how it goes...
Thanks again to everyone for having the patience to help me out setting up my NT
This is an awesome forum packed with awesome people!

Hey, I have just updated the router firmware and that fixed the problem!!!
Both my blackberry and my Nook Tablet are now able to connect and stay connected to the WiFi network!
Thanks for the tup guys!

have a question
I have a WNR2000v1 running 1.2.3.7 and the damn thing does not work with the NT, should I bite the bullet and get a new router? and if so I'd like to stick with NetGear and what would be a good model?

Hi!
As you might have read in on omy previous thread posts, I was only able to solve my problem (and ended up solving my blacberry connections issues as well) with a firmware upgrade on my netgear router..did you look for you model on Netgear's website? Did you check the known issues list? My problem had to do with the fact that the router could not handle properly authentication methods used by blabkberry models...
That was what they claimed to have fixed....so I gave it a shot just to make sure that I would't have to buy a new router...

Like I said, I have the WNR2000v1 which is like a 2009 model, I have the latest update available (as of September of 2010) and i have tried everything like setting it to 54mbs maximum and it has yet to work.
Edit-So I went to Best Buy and bought the WNDR3400 and it works flawlessly out of box, guess the new N protocol (which was my sneaking suspicion) is what the NT runs on, good thing too because my mom would have freaked if she couldn't have downloaded her new books on her christmas present. Thanks for all the help man.

Well problem solved with buying a new router then.
So you did have the latest firmware on the router as listed in here:
http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11895
The KB on the Netgear's website (http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2614) also mentioned some sort of incompatibility with BB which could be extended also to Nooks, I guess...
Well, you can always get some money back by selling your old router on eBay...

Is your Android restarting your ADSL router?

Hi all, as the thread title says... for some reason, my x10mini keeps on restarting my router at my paren't place and also the router at my home... the router i have at home is a Cisco router so it's a well known brand, so i assumed.
It's annoying because the rest of the family loses internet and when my bro is in a game he gets disconnected causing huge wars between family members
I've been having this issue for ages now, with all the ROMs that i've used starting from stock before root was possible until now where at this moment i'm using NobodyAtall's MiniCM6-1.0.0-RC2 but like i said it's been happening for months now with all the ROMs.
Is anybody else having the same issue or maybe have a possible solution for me?
I've been having the same problem, not with my android phone though. When for example, download at max speed on my computer via the wifi, it would randomly reboot.
I googled for like 2-3 weeks until i got a really nice answer. Changing the broadcast channel on the router to 1. Try that and get back to me!
It's weird i guess, but my other computer, when downloading at max speed, it wont reboot the router. So it sure is devices communicating with the device differently or something.
Not really into networking, but hope it helps!
Edit: won't hurt trying!
Thanks, going to try it out and see how it goes. I'll post soon with hopefully a good result
Nope, doesn't make a difference - I've changed the wireless channel to 1 and tried again and still, the router resets itself...
Any other ideas?
Buy new router.

Happens to my router at home as well as my parent's... so it would be way too much of a coincidence if it was both that were faulty.
if both are the same router check their firmware if they have the same update your routers firmware. or update firmware on your router first and check whether the problem is solved

My router D-Link DIR-655 with Firmware 1.21 have the same problem too.
So i guess buying a new router could be the only option until Android fix this issue.
I may have found a fix for it - not ideal but it's working. I've disabled WAP/WEP security and have activated MAC address control and have allowed for my phone's MAC address to connect to the network.
Since making the change, i haven't had a single router restart.
What an absolute schlepp to add the MAC address every time i want a wireless device to connect but it's working.
Hope this helps.
If your router is Cisco Linksys, use dd-wrt firmware on it. I have both e2000 and 610n and both have uptime of months with lots of devices connected..

Tablet S not holding Wifi Signal

I recently purchased the 16gb Sony Tablet S and am contemplating on whether or not to return it by the 30 day window due to sporadic wifi connection at my apartment. The issue is not as much the reobtaining wifi after the screen unlocks, as it is the general holding of the wifi connection when the screen is on.
I've isolated the problem to my specific router, as it works PERFECTLY at my GF's apt and my parent's house. Always connects right away and stays connected. However at my apt it doesn't always connect right way and have to manually turn the wifi off and on again, and sometimes have to manually hit connect from the wifi screen. When it finally obtains IP address it will connect, but most of the time for only a short period (like 20-30 seconds) before the wifi signal on bottom right just disappears. Then I have to toggle the wifi on and off again and try again. Very annoying. Sometimes it will connect though, and the wifi holds up like it should.
Here are the fixes I've tried so far:
* Reset and Factory Rest device
* Forget/Reconnect to network from device
* Update Router Firmware
* Configure Router - g/n mode and n mode from b/g/n
* Set Router Channel from auto to 1,6 and 11.
* Wifi Lock App (doesn't work and drains battery)
Personally, I feel like the tablet itself has an inferior wireless radio. Compared side by side to my other wifi devices, it has noticeably less signal at the router and diminishes quicker the farther away you go. Now, this doesn't really bother me as I'm usually always near my router. However, when I was scanning all the wifi networks around me (in cmd: netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid) I found over 30 networks around me all using the full channel spectrum. I've tried every channel on my router, but 11 seems the best.
Would a crowded wifi area affect the tablet? But again, my laptop, 2 phones, and PS3 connect at every channel with no problems at my apt. At my parent's house and GF's apt there are only 1 or 2 other available networks that could also be on my channel. That's the only thing I can think of.
I just don't understand why only the tablet is having wifi problems.
I have about a week left to return it, and would like to keep the tablet, but running out of patience. Next, I think I will try using MAC address and see if that works.
Any help would be appreciated!
Try this!
I had the same issue.
I solved the problem
1 - turn off wifi.
2- in accounts - turn off "auto connect"
3- turn on wifi ( test if work )
4- reconect the accounts
too simple .. but works , try it.

Thats certaintly not the problem since i have so many devices logged in on my network, and not having the same problems,
The Wi-Fi on Sony tablet has known issue's like loosing connection when screen goes standby, even if you checked this in settings never to shut down.
The steps in the post above can be the sollution, and if not, sony will make somehow a repair or a dev would fix this. goodluck.

Thanks. I tried that sequence and it seemed to work for a little bit, but then the problems reoccurred.
Again, the problem is not just that the wifi doesn't pick up right away after standby, but also, and more importantly, it looses wifi BEFORE the screen goes out while I'm using it, repeatedly.
Its very annoying and only happens at my apt and not at other networks. No other device on my network has this problem.
Nobody else has had this problem before?
I remember from older posts that tablet s has problem with certain brand routers. What routers are used in your places.

Its a ZyXel brand router that doesn't work. I'm pretty sure the one's that do work are both Linksys. The ZyXel router is probably a cheap one because it came bundled in a promotion from my ISP.
I guess I could try another n router, but still find it strange that all my other wifi devices are fine with the current router.
Wifi Signal
Sony is not as reliable as it used to be... My Tablet S keeps loosing WiFi signal, and the solution I found was to turn off and back on the WiFi. This fix the issue.
However another very annoying problem is that very often I need to hard reset the tablet as it locks the screen with no other way to recover it. Shame on Sony. An the annoying side flash light is ridiculous. I used to have an A100 that aside any design issues, worked perfectly never had any operational issue with it. Should have upgraded to a A500...
What worked for me.
I bought a Sony S as a birthday present for my wife. That was yesterday and today she went to work and left me to set it up for her.
I have a Cisco E3200 router. The tablet could see my router and connect to it but would drop the connection after 5 seconds.
Well, that was the first hour and a half of my day.
Finally, with nothing else to try, I set up a guest account on the router. The tablet found it and connected to it on the first attempt and has been connected now for over four hours including multiple restarts.
I have no idea why this worked. I just know that it did.
Clive.
Same issues here when docking tablet sometimes, but my work around is to turn WiFi off, and hit Fast Reboot ( app by Great Bytes Software) then turn WiFi back on. Fast Reboot seems to do a soft reboot on apps and system and it only takes a few seconds.
Hope this helps!

Wifi Issues
I bought the 32G version from Woot recently. The WiFi reception is awful. I am on my second unit same thing.
4 feet from Router (on 2nd floor), 3 bars out of 4. 15 feet goes to 2. Downstairs goes to 1 bar 1MBS. And drops like a hot potato. Sony has sent a RMA for repair. Being this is my second unit with same issue, I doubt there is a fix.
I use a LAptop, netbook, android phone on the same router. No issues. They all work well, even in the basement!
Updated to 4.0 on my original unit, no change.
Just ranting here, hoping for a surprise fix. Other than that Mrs Lincoln how was the play? I love the tablet otherwise. Will probably throw and a spare router downstairs or feed it off my 4G phone. Now that really sucks..LOL

sony tablet s wifi issue
Hi all,
after weeks of study here is what i found out:
- wifi issue is not a hard ware issue, it is simply the software.
- wifi issue occurs only with certain routers with both N & G channels , Especially Netgear and BT.
- Wifi manger app makes it better and less annoying, issue still there but less occurring. try different channels.
- Tablet S for some reason does not like the channels used by certain Routers.
- do not bother with wifi lock app, does not do the job and steals ur battery.
- after weeks of trial, tablet is just great, but needs attention from Google.
SO
My friend's wife works for Google, when asked for the favor of the insider , engineers in Google said, first stage is to roll out Xperia release 5 to try and fix problem, then both S and Xperia will get Jelly bean with a definite fix. Testing as we speak.
all I can do now is get a good router and hope for the best.

I have tried 3 different Routers.
Verizon/ActionTecMi424
CheckPoint Z-100G
Linksys WRT54GL
No change no difference.
I finally installed another router on the other floor. Now it works in entire house, but have to change router connections if I move to a different floor.
The big question here I think is:
Is every Tablet S this way or do we have some bad samples? Software or Hardware. Sony has given me and RMA # to return for repair. I am hesitant to do that. If there is no fix or all units are this way.
I am not 100% sure but from my own testing I found it working 90% of the time everywhere else, here is how I tested:
home netgear, does not hold wifi , have to refresh page all the time to browse internet.
Work ( different router not sure what type yet) works just like a dream, fast no wifi drops no refreshes needed.
took it to most free wifi spots, not a problem.
friends house BT, Same issue again.
Wifi manager made it a bit better yes ( have to test now on channels 12 , 13 or 15 , wifi lock app does not work.
I hate to get a different router to get same issue at the end. however different posts elsewhere suggested setting router to N on and G off channels testing each time you make a change, on tablet set to manual ( have not done this bit yet).
It's not like we are all being picky here with Sony, we like the tablet itself and we bought it with a lot of money, we want to be able to browse the internet download things without getting our livers and kidneys enlarged.
more to follow , I am really hoping to be able to get my friend's wife update as she told us GOOGLE IS VERY AWARE OF THE ISSUE.

WIFI Issue fixed
All,
there was an update last Thursday that fixed the wifi issue, I am not really sure what but my tablet s now holds and keeps wifi everywhere.
I had issued before with netgear and bt routers and after last Thursday it was just fine, i need to review the recent updates done and Let you all know.
I tried it everywhere and works perfect, download speed is perfect , not one drop of wifi so far.
I assume either Sony or Google did something here as it was getting an update last Thursday that lasted about 10 minutes, could not figure out what was that update yet.

Weird Wifi issue

My Prime has had decent wifi all along. This morning however I'm having serious issues with it. It shows as being connected to wifi but there is no data transferring. If I do a hard reset I can then get into a browser and access 1 web page. After that it no longer transfers any data and I eventually get a web page not found error message. Same thing for email. I get email on the initial check it does upon booting up but then nothing else. Google Play store does the same thing as well.
I tried doing a factory reset and multiple hard resets but the problem is persisting. This has obviously rendered by Prime completely useless. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any ideas?
thanks,
Jeff

Yes.....and it was the router. I had ruled out the router because my Iphone was showing as being on wifi and it was working fine. But when I went to use my laptop I had the same problem. Reset the router and all is good. Not sure why my Iphone was unaffected but at least it's fixed.

I had a wierd issue to and read in a post to change the wifi security level. Initially mine was on WEP, then i started to have issues a few months later. it just wouldnt stay connected (kind of like yours). I changed it to wpa2 and so far it has had a steady connection. Wouldnt hurt to give that a shot.

I'm already using WPA2 and have had NO problems at all until yesterday. However, since my laptop was also having problems I would say that it was my router and not the Prime that was the problem. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
On a side note, I had been planning on doing a factory reset for a while and yesterday gave me my excuse to do it. I hadn't done one since I purchased my Prime. It has made a big difference in performance and reducing the number of app crashes. Its a bit of work but definitely worth it.

Just wanted to jump in here to give y'all a pro-tip.
You said your wireless was working fine until just the other day when it started to give you problems? Well, the problem may lie in the channel your Wifi is broadcasting on. You may have had a neighbor just move in/just get wireless, they may have their router on "auto" and it changed channels or your router may have changed channels. I would suggest downloading Wifi Analyzer and taking a look at the wireless signals around you. You can then adjust your routers Wifi channel accordingly. You will want to stay on channel 1, 6, or 11 ideally. Also it is good practice to reboot your router occasionally.
Hope this helps. :good:

Second that, except that when I walked around the house with WiFi Analyzer running on my phone I found that the people on either side of me were on Channel 1 both of my routers were on Channel 1 too. So I made one of mine 6 and the other 11. This is also something you have to re-check every once in a while as the neighbors might change theirs.
One other thing I've noticed with my Prime is that it seems to work a lot better if I set the router for N Only or G only - not mixed mode.

[Q] Linksys WRT610n, Lumia 920&people hub

A few days ago i got my Lumia 920, and pretty soon i discovered a networking problem. When i am connected to my homenetwork, the people hub refuses to update facebook-streams. Sometimes it does, but most of the times its just "looking for updates". I have this problem only when i'm home. When connected to the wireless network at work, it works just fine - it's fast and updates every time.
I guess there is some parameter on my router that the phone does not like, but i dont have any clue what it could be. I'm running the newest firmware, no security is enabled. The problem is on both 2,4 ghz and 5 ghz.
I run "dhcp-reservations" so the phone gets the same ip every time - i also tried without reserving a specific ip to the phone. It has no effect on my problem.
I tried to enable the log, but the log is not very informative - its just telling what IP-adresses its trying to access.
This is the first device i have that is having a problem with my router. I have had three windows phone devices before, i have had iphone and one android phone, and of course laptops. I have never experienced this problem.
Would be very thankful for help solving this. I am not skilful enough to figure out what could be the problem. It works like a charm "everywhere" except when i'm home - so it must be my router that it does not like.
920 and WRT610n
I have a 920 and a wrt610n as well. A while back, I reflashed the firmware on my router with a third party open source product from dd-wrt.com. The firmware provides a lot more options for the router, and may help with your issue. I used the "mega generic" version of the firmware. Follow the setup carefully and let me know if you have and issues. :fingers-crossed:
I have exactly the same problem with WRT610n! Hope there's somebody can provide a solution...
Sorry to bring it to u guys, but some particular brands do not "like" each other. For instance, D-Link has an issue with iPhones and iPads, now this has issues with Lumias...
Possibly some reflashing of the router might get the things done, I cannot tell. I have a WR240G - and it works perfectly with every device, except for iPhone5 (in order to work with it, all security must be shut down)

General You Know That 5Ghz Band Wifi6 issue most S22/S23 Ultras has been having? I may have found a good Temporary Solution for this.

So I've been dealing with this for over a year now, trying everything under the sun to get this to work and I noticed that the majority of the time the issue happens with Asus Routers. And ironically I have one too, an RT-AX86U to be exact.
So after a lot of research & trial and error, I found myself a good Temporary Solution that has been working for over a week now, with the WiFi signal lagging very briefly on a rare occasion, with maybe one time where I thought the issue came back but the whole internet was down instead .
So here's what I did:
1. No Smart Switch was used to set up my S23 Ultra. Never liked it to be honest. I use Samsung Cloud and Google Drive via Google One to back up everything & I keep all my stuff in the cloud so it was only a re-download of what was needed. And I only brought back only my Messages & Call Log, cuz I'm forgetful . I also manually added my WiFi to my phone, I didn't bring it over. I also cleared it from my Known WiFi Networks as well beforehand.
2. I switched the Router's software from ASUSMerlin back to Stock ASUS software, and updated it to the most STABLE version. Get it from ASUS directly & install it via the web gui.
3. I did both the HARD Factory Reset AND the NORMAL Factory Reset after I updated the router. There's two versions of it apparently. I did the version where you are physically pressing buttons to do it, and then I did the normal one on the Web Gui. Look up Hard Factory Reset *insert router name here* and it'll give you the way to do it for that particular version.
4. Went through Initial Router Set-up normally. Kept the same name & password, **stick to WPA2 security, you'll see why in a second**
5. *on the phone* Turned on Developer Settings on the phone, turned on Wifi Safe Mode.
6. Settings, Connections, WiFi, tap on the 3 Dots on the top right and choose Intelligent WiFi & turn off Prioritize Real-time Data.
7. *in Web Gui for the Router* Turn off 802.11ax/WiFi 6 mode. It's in Wireless. Make sure you do it for both bands (the first section will be which band you're editing, choose accordingly)
8. I actually kept on the 160 Mhz option for the 5Ghz because I want my speed dammit. Hasn't affected anything.
9. Switched my DNS (including IPv6) out of Cloudflare to a different DNS, I used Google. IPv4 is in the WAN section, IPv6 is in the IPv6 section (switch only if you actually have that one normally) **I didn't try different DNS options, Google was always my second choice, my focus was NOT using Cloudflare. Try different ones and see, I was always having issues with Cloudflare**
10. **for fun cuz why not** Restart everything. Phone, Router, and Modem if you're feeling fancy. Why? It doesn't hurt so might as well.
That's it. No Phone Mac. No Static IP on the phone. I'm on my 5Ghz Band consistently and it works almost flawlessly. Granted I would love to have Wifi6 available to me so I can get a better router with the 6Ghz Band as an option, but being able to use my 5Ghz in a stable way on my phone when I need that is more important to me. So there we go.
You should change the title of the post by: "For crap routers like ASUS, this is the solution I found to have stable connections with Samsung"
I have another brand that has a solid wifi connection with just default configuration as it should be.

My ASUS router has never given me any problems with any of my phones including this one.

Asus routers are know to have lot of bugs and instability caused by bad firmware and their hardware, some models worse than others, plenty of issue you will find in the forums and even at Amazon if you read the reviews.
My current router is Netgear RAXE300, solid as a rock, much better and faster than the older one it replaced, a Netgear R7800. I will consider Asus as a brand for motherboards and GPUs but never for Wifi routers.

Which is funny because I would never consider ASUS for a motherboard or GPU but love their networking gear and would have to be convinced hard to buy another brand.

I've been using an ASUS (RT-AC68U) router for 9 years and never had a single problem with it. I only recently took it out of service as it wasn't Wi-Fi 6 compatible. What is it about them that you proclaim them to be crap?

Maybe it worked fine for you, my experience with routers Asus is too much dumb marketing and unreliable routers, not only my case but lot of people having issues from dropping connections (very common in Asus) to firmware issues specially with the AX series.
I actually had issues with my S22 Ultra with Wifi, I always thought it was my Wifi that was messed up so I would switch it to the 2.4GHz. I'm actually not having the issue at all with my 23 Ultra.
If I were to ask you which, among all of the things you did, fixed the issue, I bet you wouldn't reakly know, would you? There's too many changes that "might have" fixed the issue.
I haven't had any known issues with an S22 Ultra or an S23 Ultra connected via wi-fi to an ASUS XT12 WiFi-6 mesh system. But did need to reboot the "slave" mesh unit once - when it wasn't working for any wifi clients. I previously had an RT-AC3100 that was also solid.
I did have prior bad experiences with Netgear and D-Link back in the 802.11g and 802.11n days - but that was a long time ago.

No problems with my Asus RT-AX3000 either.
I have an AX11000 and haven't had issues with the S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra, Fold 4 or the S23 Ultra. I can use 2.4, 5Ghz w8th Wi-Fi 6 and the 5Ghz 160mhz band. Not sure why you are having issues.
