I preordered, but is this a legit site? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Expansys is where I got my pre-order. I've never heard of them. I've heard of B&H, J&R, Best Buy, Newegg, and Gamestop having access to preorders, but who are these guys? They seemed legit so I gave them my preorder info. Any thoughts?

I don't think I've ever ordered with them, though if by "legit" you mean if they're real OR a scam in terms of a business, they seem to be an established business.
Site: http://www.expansys-usa.com/ (them, right?)

If by "legit" you mean they can deliver your Prime by Christmas or this month, that's something you'll find out on the receipt OR your order info, or by calling them. Hopefully someone else here can shed more light for you. (was there a reason you chose them and not the other companies you knew about already? like a special or something?)

Expansys is big for imported phones so they're definately legit. Their inventory systems are archaic and all communication is done manually. They keep bankers hours so they're hard to get in touch with. I'd say they're a poor choice for the Prime because they don't do a lot of business with Asus and communicating with them for a product that's touch-and-go will have you ripping your hair out. If companies that have sold a lot of Asus product in the past are having trouble with inventory I can't see how Expansys would fare any better.

Well, I chose them because they were the only company that still had pre-orders available.
I've heard of all the delays. I don't expect to be seeing my Prime before 2012 . Reeeeeally wish I hadn't sold my laptop/eReader preemptively....
With all the hype around this device, I just wondered if anyone had experience buying electronics from this company because I'd never heard of them before. Not only was I wondering about them as a business, I was wondering about how far down the totem pole they may be.
Thanks for the replies.

Ahh BarryH, thank you!

they are definitely a legit company, everything is based in the UK though but they are the place to go for imported phones, my friend ordered his S II from their because when it first came out that was like the only place but yes they will not steal your money or anything

My concern is that they dont metion the model number, and they dont show a picture of it and being that there the same name the first and second generation I think there selling the first ones.

That doesn't make sense because the new one is Transformer PRIME. (which is clearly on the order page and title) The new one also comes in two colors while the original only had one.
The order page also describes the Transformer Prime.

Hrmm... I'm starting to doubt whether expansys will fulfill all these preorders. I pre-ordered mine 5 days ago and I'm sure it was up before that as well. It seems that they are the only site taking pre-orders so they must be getting a ton of requests. I don't think they are a big partner with Asus so they can't be getting enough shipments to fulfill these orders. (not unless you're willing to wait till January)
And, they are still taking pre-orders!
Math doesn't seem right. (especially when sites like Amazon and Newegg sold out so quickly)
Plus, I'm sure a lot more people are ordering just to take advantage of the discounts.
Something seems off...

Yea seems a little off, however, during the HP touchpad firesale they pulled through. They oversold but fulfilled orders. Im hoping they learned from that fiasco and wont oversell stock they dont have. I never heard of expansys till recently, so maybe people in the US dont shop much there.
I checked my order status and its still not updated. Crossing my fingers...

They still cut off a lot of orders with the TouchPad(I remember getting the email but I was one of the few that made it though).
And with HP, it's their product. They started up production again to fulfill some extra orders. (can't do that here)
Oh well... nothing more can be done... It's a bit sad because the original transformer also had stocking issues. I thought Asus and the retailers would've coordinated a bit better this time but it doesn't seem that way. They can't really say that they didn't expect the demand when they experienced the same rush last time. I'm still not even sure when the "actual" release date is!

Still possible to get one?

Hey,
Is it still possible to get one of these before Christmas (assuming the live date is before then) ? I have not preordered yet.
Thanks
If you are in the US and you can find a place that is still accepting pre-orders, then maybe. It is very doubtful any stores will have it in stock until after the new years and seems like Canada and Europe are out of the questions until Jan or Feb.
However, it seems like Best Buy is the only place that has not cancelled or delayed pre-orders, so I would say you have your work cut out for you if you want one before the holidays.
I'd suggest calling around to some GameStop B&M stores. From some of the postings, it appears a couple of locations have more inventory arriving then they have pre-orders. Everyone on this forum's been going nuts to be first to get a Prime and are well aware of GameStop. But the average shopper probably wouldn't even think of them for tablets. Keep in mind not all GameStop stores sell tablets. If you have friends and family in other cities use them to expand your search.

Also keep in mind that Gamestop does not allow returns, so you would probably need to deal with Asus if you have any problems with the device. Honestly its a horrible place to buy anything but used games. They consistently open new products and sometimes remove contents or allow their employees to play with them before they shelf them. I just avoid buying anything new there.
However, it is true most people will not think of Gamestop for Tablets, so if they do get units this year it may be the best bet to find it.

Funny you'd say that. There are three GameStop's in my city that I didn't even know existed until the whole Prime pre-order thing. They're in obscure locations and the one I went in to looked like a thrift shop. Everyone working there looked like they were still in high school. On their website they say they have 6,627 company-operated stores in 17 countries. Who knew?
Here's a link to the game they opened to remove the OnLive coupons:

Yeah, that was a big fiasco. I found that if you want a new game from Gamestop that is unopened, you pretty much have to pre-order it and show up for a midnight launch if they hold one. Other than that I have never gotten a shrink-wrapped products. I hear this can vary store to store, but I have 4 within 10 miles of me and they all do the same.
So I just go in an buy used games. Those are the ONLY product they sell you can actually return. Probably because they buy stuff for $1-$5 and sell it for $20-$50.
Of course, I guess this is all off topic. Sorry.
Yes, if you want to pay between $699-800 on ebay

I'm going to take my chance on Best Buy on launch date, they are bound to have some in stock on launch date.
I've never heard of a new product being sold to only online shoppers who pre-ordered weeks in advanced.
I also have it hard to believe that there many out there who are anxious for this product for it to sell out quickly on launch date.
Unlike that $199 1080p Sharp HDTV Best Buy fire sold on Black Friday, I was amazed then that no body in the line I waited that day was interested in the $249 Transformer.

The Prime probably decreased interest in original Transformer sales. It's a sweet deal at $250 but the second version was already announced. That said, my friend couldn't get a hold of the $250 ones (she waited in Manhattan)... I guess it also depends on the location.
Anyway, it's a week away from release so really the best chance now would be to stalk brick and mortar stores. (call ahead)

Best Buy TF201 backordered notice (12/19/2011)

it means no Christmas gift for me. Now seriously I just got a "friendly" email from Best buy explaining me my order has been backordered, I'm cancelling right now(a $650 order with dock), 2-3 more weeks waiting is totally unacceptable, I pre-ordered mine on November 23th, by the time tf201 is out, it will be only 2 weeks away from ipad 3 release, and there won't be any guarantees asus will deliver on time, it may be another delay. I will better wait for apple 3(already have an ipad 2 and tf101), so long asus.
Thanks, the more pre-orders that cancelled, the sooner I get mine!

i got the same email
I am in the same boat. This was the sole gift for my 7 year old Autistic son.
I can understand the supply issues with a preorder product. However, I was in contact with Best Buy every day and, although each rep had a different story, all we ensuring me that I would get this by Christmas and that there were no problems with the order getting filled. Then, of course, they backorder the thing on the VERY LAST FULL SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR. Now most places are bare, will not be getting more shipments and a very unlikelihood of being able to order anything online for the holiday. To butter it up, Besy Buy reps have not made any offer to make good on this screw up. At least Gamestop and Amazon gave out credits.
I am going to be calling to make a huge stink today. I am not cancelling until I have the product from somewhere else, but I am going to spread the same holiday cheer they have with me.
By the way, feel free to contact the corporate offices and the CEO to send your holiday wishes as well:

Have you ever once considered that it is asus who is giving you the shaft? Seriously, they've pushed back the release date over and over and still have never given a solid date that it will be released. I'm sure BB wants to make money, they are not delaying orders just to piss people off here.

Has anyone considered that no one is giving anyone the shaft, that crap sometimes happens that corporations cannot foresee? I think asus cannot keep up with the demand, and Best Buy probably had way to many people order. Granted the communication has been horrible, from every company dealing with this. I am in the same boat as you guys, waiting for it, but I do not believe that anyone set out to do this.

It's more that they should've informed their customers that Asus is being stupid. Of course they said the 18th was just an ETA, but I was told countless times that there is no reason to believe it won't be shipping on that date. I had one guy tell me it had shipped to UPS and should get a shipping confirmation soon. All of that is unacceptable.
Remember the last 2 ipads re announced in Feb and did not ship until April. I would guess this one will be no different. Good luck getting one in February.

Best Buy is responsible for fulling orders. If they did not have stock then they should not have been taking pre-orders. Other vendors did this, so Best Buy should be able to do it too. There's other things like maybe letting people know sooner their order would not be fulfilled.
I expect a retailer to be able to count.

They did the same with the delayed release of the Thunderbolt. They are incompetent. I was giving them a second chance but now I am fed up with them. I canceled and ordered with Amazon again. Asus' CEO publically said "November" for release. Then Asus said "12/9." Then Asus said "12/19." Then Asus said "the week of 12/19." They'll make their last commitment but by sending far fewer units to far fewer resllers then they originally planned. The Galaxy Nexus was a highly anticipated device for VZW. They didn't officially launch it until their was enough inventory in the pipeline (stores, VZW.com, resellers) so that people looking for it didn't have to pull their hair out. Something happened that screwed up Asus' ability to honor their original commitments to resellers. Since they're a public company, they will have forecast "x" amount of Prime sales in 2011. We'll see when they file their Q4 earnings report how badly they missed their earlier projections. Bottom line is they rushed the product to be first to market with Teg3, encountered issues and had no slack in their timeline to deal with them, and are claiming victory by eeking out a small quantity of product this year.

Totally not true. BB, like Amazon, was told by Asus how much initial inventory they'd be receiving and what the flow would be subsequently. They sold pre-orders based on those commitments. Asus botched the commitment causing both BB and Amazon to have to cancel or back-order customer orders. Amazon deserves props for getting the message out early and at least giving their customers an option to find a "plan B."

This happened last time. I'm really not sure what the exact cause of it is but it seems like their production/supply chain/delivery process is unreliable.
You would think they would have learned something the first time...
Honestly, a delay wouldn't be too bad. But, they have to be public about it -- not leave customers in the dark. This whole time they're trying to market this thing by giving it away on facebook but people who actually want to buy the thing, can't. Where is Asus's official message about these botched commitments? Asus isn't as big as some companies but it isn't a small company either; they should have said something by now. You limit the damage by being upfront with your customers.
As an update, I called and gave the rep a hard time expressing my opinion that Best Buy needed to make some attempt to make good. Finally after asking for free next day shipping and some sort of compensation for not getting anything for christmas, I was told they could not credit the order, but got an "issue number" to call back after it ships to get reimbursed for the shipping cost. Also they are sending me a $25 gift card.
It sucks to have to ask for this. I told them that upgrading the shipping was in their best interest because if I find it somewhere else they lose a sale. Of course, after they changed the order my status went from backordered to order in process, but I am sure this will revert back and was only because the order was changed.

You're spot on. I've seen Asus' CEO speak and he's a bit of a character. His ego's also as big as a house. I'm guessing instead of letting the product drive the timeline he mandated the reverse. Product management's reported to me and this consequence is what happens when dates become more important then quality - in either the product or roll-out. Nine women can't have a baby in a month.

I think you're right. I think it's partly cause their CEO's a cowboy. I think the other part is that Asus made a strategic decision to be big in tablets (unlike, say, Acer, whose support is half-hearted). Asus wanted to be technology leader, in hardware, and OS, but had to hit the window before iPad 3 was released. So the CEO pushed, and drove the organization to the point where, as you say, dates drove the product, rather than conversely.
I for one, appreciate the strategic decision, and that emphasis is why I decided to return my Acer A500, and just wait for the Asus TF. I understand bleeding edge, vs leading edge, and pre-ordered one from BB on 12/4. So I got the 2 week wait email also. I was hoping for "on-time" delivery, but would have been surprised had it arrived before Christmas. So now it's a matter of managing my "wants" more than cursing BB.
That doesn't stop me from disliking BB's pre-order and order management practices. I doubt I'll online order from them again.

I've had a few issues with them on some stuff but I had no idea how disjointed their order and dispatch systems were until the Prime incident(s). You'd think that after the death of CompUSA and Circuit City they'd have made some investments in their infrastructure. They managed this process far worse than some much smaller resellers.

Best Buy TP Exchange Experience...

Got my TP yesterday from Best Buy, and unfortunately it had few issues, biggest being that the left side was separating (you could see the glass move and could hear a click when squeezing it....) Needless to say I was not going to keep it, so I figured I will give a local Best Buy a try to see if I can exchange it...
I walked up to the Customer Service desk and explained the problem. They said no problem, just go to the computer area and get another one, and they will do an exchange. Went back there, and asked for a Transformer Prime. Got a blank stare, then was told that they are not out yet. I proceeded to explain that I already have one and I'm just exchanging it. Another blank stare, then I was assured that what I must have is the Transformer. I finally got tired of this and asked one of the reps to go back to Customer Service with me.
Upon looking at the box, he looked up the SKU and not finding it in the system, he told me that there is nothing they can do, since it's not in their system and he has no idea how I was able to order one. I politely explained that I have the packing slip from BB.com, order receipt, emails from BB, etc. I had two other people look at it, try to pull up the SKU, then telling me the same thing. It was time to talk to somebody that might have a slightest clue, so I asked for a manager. To make a long story short, after a 25 minute discussion where I was basically accused of "doing something funny", he called somebody else on the phone, and after a short conversation told me that he will "issue me a refund, but this is just not right."
I stayed calm and got the refund, then politely explained to the guy that I can't believe how they can treat a customer in this manner. I don't remember the last time being treated remotely like this, and I will certainly let the corporate office know. He could obviously care less...
Anyway, just wanted to vent. Best Buy lost a VERY good customer, as after this whole TP fiasco I'm just done with them. It's a shame that such a large retailer has so little clue about customer service and competency...
Well the TP is not currently sold in stores yet, its an online only product. I can see why there were confused, but they should've know that though.
Dang! I hope my luck is better. I have a Grey 64GB with dock on pre-order from B&H. It's amazing how lame and helpless these sales people can be. They are slaves to the Point-Of-Sale terminal with no imagination or obvious access to resources.
The correct response would be to accept what you said as true, apologize and issue the refund since they have no units in the store to give you.
Bye.
Hmm, who would've guessed Paul Christoforo would get a job at Best Buy so quickly.

Well obviously since his tablet was only purchasable on wwebsite as on the internet, they couldn't find it.
Mine comes in tomorrow from Best Buy. I hope I don't have any issues that I have to do go through them. Maybe I'll just contact my ASUS rep straight up if I have a problem.

True. Or he could have sold them all on ebay for $150 so there were none left.
Asus packaging really sucks(only booklets is well protected), and BB mailed it in plastic envelope..No wonder there are a lot of problems....
Sorry to hear about the lousy experience. After working in retail, I can deffinently tell you not to threaten with "going to corporate". Just as you said they probably aren't going to care.
Much better to tell the manager on site that you want their District/Regional managers name and phone number. Call the number on the spot if it's during normal daytime hours. This will get you much better results.
District/Regional managers are the normal top dog of the store area, and if you can relay your distress to them in your treatment/experience, results will quickly follow. The store themselves aren't scared of a veiled threat to someone they never directly interact with ("corporate"). But get in touch with their direct boss (the region/district), and that'll put some fear in them...
That doesn't surprise me one bit. Best Buy customer service and return policy is one of the worst I've ever seen.
Now that the competitors (Circuit City, Silo) are gone some long gone Best Buy brick and mortars feel that they can do whatever they want. "Like where else are you going to go?"
but part of this blame also needs to be shared by ASUS for half-ass launching of their product. You don't launch a product to minimum stores unless you want your product to flop.
strange ASUS never revealed the amount of Primes they shipped to US for launch. My guess is under 3,000 units at best.
I was in BB last week, doing other shopping and for the heck of it, asked if they had the dock in yet (they didn't). But all of the BB guys were insisting that the TF Prime was not even out yet and that it had been delayed until Jan. I was like "Of course it's out, I have one!!". Lol... :/

The Best Buy clerks at the retailer in my area knew that they were out but had no idea of when they would be in, they checked their internet computers and only saw what most online-shoppers saw the "Coming Soon" message.
Can someone explain to me again why BB stopped their TFP online ordering nearly 2-weeks before Christmas and put-up a "Coming Soon" banner? Do they not realize how many customers they lost in what I can only see as a dumb move. I mean even if you didn't have any TFP in-stock, you could have at least kept it set up as a pre-order to collect potential buyers, but leaving it as a Coming Soon did no good for anyone, not even their own brick and mortar retailers who also used BB.com.

With the ridiculous amount of issues that it turns out they've had with preorders, stopping them was ultimately the right move.

It is just truly amazing that a retailer the size of Best Buy can have basic issues like this and how unresponsive they are to fix those issues. I think the mentality here is - it is not effecting enough people, so let's just not talk about it.

Prime out of stock in Canada "for good" ? Updt: Now available in some stores

Prime out of stock in Canada "for good" ? Updt: Now available in some stores
Not meaning to spread rumors or anything but felt like I'd share what I was told this morning by various big store employees.
My Prime is defective in many ways (including dead HDMI and wonky WIfi) so I had the choice to either get a replacement unit or get a refund. Since Asus said they were out of stock themselves back a few weeks ago I decided to simply ask a refund and purchase another PRime locally... that should have been simple enough.
Unfortunately, none of the large stores (Bestbuy, Futureshop and Staples) have Primes in stock, either online or instore. All out. Futureshop and Staples both confirmed they never had a single unit instore besides returned defective units. Best Buy didn't know if they ever did have a few but confirmed that he had no ETA on future allocation.
In other words, 3 months post launch, the 3 major canadian retailers don't have Primes and don't have any ETA. Moreover, the staff I talked to at Futureshop indicated that he doubted they'd ever get any more stock because of the numerous returns they had. In fact someone returned one at that very location for the same reason I am exchanging/refunding mine (dead HDMI and.. defective Wifi!).
Obviously the staff in those store often misinform people due to lack of knowledge but I did find it surprising that all 3 were on the same page.
Have you guys experienced anything similar? I'm now asking for a replacement unit since ASus does seem to have some instock.. after all, I don't want another tablet, I want a working Prime..
I had a heck of a time finding one in Winnipeg. Luckily the Best Buy here got like 5 in stock that morning. It has been fine (haven't tried the HDMI port yet) and so I haven't had any issues with it. Looking now none of the Future Shops here have any and you can't even check at Best Buy anymore. The Staples that I have been to looking for accessories have never had any actual Primes in stock ever. Looks like they may have given up on it. =(
The OP has a good point. I looked at Canada Computers, TigerDirect, BreastBuy, Future Shop, NCIX and Staples. It appears there are very limited quantities in Canada and especially southern Ontario. We're talking about 24 or less. Some places had nothing at all and others had less than 10. I agree, what's up with that? There is no proof that they're gone "for good" other than speculation though.
Ncix has the 64gb $599 version in stock. Also checking staples online store says available for next business day delivery

It sucks for people that don't have one. I didn't have much of a problem finding the tablet but dock was a real pain.
I'm lucky I guess. I have a perfect Prime, can't find one flaw and a nice English-only dock.
Are you talking about canada or Canada? Ncix has in stock, futureshop says in stock in store and 64gb online. I personally got 2 in store from futureshop in january. Memory express has 64gb in stock limited quantities. Are you from the future maybe? Or the past? Can i have your autograph?

Where is this BreastBuy, I would like to browse their selection?
Looking at the US right it's not much better. Can't find it anywhere, and none of my local Best Buy stores ever had any in stock.
Either Asus is getting ready to release a fixed version, or more likely, Prime will fade into history with 700.
Major win for Breastbuy
Besides that, I am talking about the CURRENT situation, not that you found one in January, December or June 2016, I mean right now.
As for Staples if you click on any link you will get an OOS notice altough it does still say "Shipping next day".. Staples is just that great yeah..
FS does say "Available in store but when I browse through the 60 closest stores (which is like 3 provinces around) none have any instock so yeah, that is equal to 0 for me. BB is the exact same.
NCIX doesn't have the 32gb in either color and does have extremely low stock of the 64gb.
It's not available at Tigerdirect either. So.. what's left in terms of larger retailers?
Think about any popular product launch and find one where the product wasn't readily available off the shelf 3 months post launch? Scarce allocation is either because there is too much demand or simply not enough offered. I doubt the demand is that insanely high at this point considering it's very much a "geek" device and not a mass hysteria popular product a la fruit company and most geek happly got theirs (I did).
So all I was saying is that I was told by 3 major outlets that they didn't expect any stock for a rather popular product that has been out for 3 months... I think it's odd that's all.
I just got my Prime today, was really hard to find.
It's sold out on all Media Markts in Germany, Conrad didnt have any (they sold the lasts ones yesterday, I saw them)
And today I found mine on Saturn, not many left there either, and they said they did not know when where they coming back to stock.
You had me at breastbuy....

Give your head a shake. I don't care what you think I was simply stating I bought 2 in store, yes in store as in i walked into a store, a brick and morter store with walls and such on 2 separate occasions and bought a prime with real money from a real cash register with a real person and then walked out of real doors. TWICE! So don't be spreading false information.
Play nice kids….
Ya im in the same boat. Been looking locally and everyones out of stock…kinda weird.
I had no luck finding any Primes in stores.
Last month I had my hands on at least 4 Primes and they all were defective, either in the camera lens or the screen - 2 from Future Shop and 2 from Staples.
I really need to get a Prime.. my keyboard dock is sitting in its box
*hopefully Asus is going to start distributing fixed Primes

Best buy
Futureshop
Canada computers

I've been trying to get my hands on a 32gb model for two weeks and I'm getting similar results. I'm in BC. I noticed that future shop and best buy have 64gb models online for order. The only in store unit I have ever seen was a best buy display model.
I spoke with a future shop employee who said that they have never had any units in store since release and they don't expect any units anytime soon.
The keyboard dock is also quite hard to find sold out in most locations.
This is definitely odd. Can't say I can remember the last time you couldn't find a reasonably popular product in stores 3 months after launch.
