[Q] First things you are going to do with your Prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Since most of us are excited to get this tablet in our hands, I was wondering what everyone plans on actually doing with it when they first get it. As someone who has never owned a tablet before I was curious how most people plan on using it day to day, and what apps they are looking forward to trying out on it.

uhh uhh uhh... turn it on?

First thing?...hit the wall? Stupid question and another stupid topic.....

the first thing i'm going to do is solve the national deficit problem with my asus transformer prime using the calculator app.

I don't think even the Tegra 3 can work with numbers that big!

I have a list of about 16 apps (so far) that I KNOW I want to download asap. I'm taking advantage of all the 10¢ apps lately. In downloading them to my phone and then when I get the prime ill already have them on my Google account

Well this is a Xmas present to myself so assuming that I can pick it up on the 19th from Gamestop, I am going to wrap it up unopened and put it under my tree. It's gonna be hard not to open it but I think I can make it a week. I'm just as excited as Xmas in 1989 when my mom bought me a NES with mario and dunk hunt on the same cartridge!

this forum is for adults, not facepalming children.
its a valid question, and why do you care?

After a full charge and setup I will test the WiFi duh! Whether others will admit it or not WiFi will be tested by everyone on this site pretty quickly, followed by GPS! Just saying!

I'm going to get an ps1 and n64 emulator.

I'm going to check out and download 100000 apps while having a smoke.
learn everything about my device and android.
watch my youtubes, surf forums.

I'm going to make the 64GB hard-drive cry by loading it up with all my music and apps! Muahahaha

First thing root it. Then do a Titanium backup off all my apps and clean up system apps that I do not want. Then Rom manager/CWM and do a nandroid backup of my stock rooted rom. Browse the web and watch Hulu through DroidLu app from market.

After charging it and turning it on, not necessarily in that order. I'm going to test the WiFi, BT, cameras, and then curl up with it, and watch a movie on it.

I'm going to end world hunger and the green house effect. And that's just the first hour. I'll rest for 23 hour and then start solving other world problems with it. So I think it's safe to say that I should get this first if anyone should get one.

Root, Figure out how to unlock Bootloader, install CWM Recovery, wait on CM9

Come to #Asus-Transformer to discuss the prime

Hey Guys, Make sure you stop by the #Asus-Transformer IRC channel. We were going to create a separate channel for the prime but figured since we already have a well established room with a lot of devs, themers and "powerusers" we would just keep it one channel for now
If things get too confusing we will open the other channel specifically for the prime but for now we thought it would be best to have everyone going to one place.
So Make sure you guys stop by #asus-transformer on freenode irc
You can use a client or go to http://webchat.freenode.net

So is the Transformer Prime going to be discontinued on the basis of Hasbro suing them? Does ANYONE have any updates on this matter?

They will probably will just end up paying royalties.
original prime is being released on few weeks here, just popped up for pre orders.
But i spotted this on
http://androidcommunity.com/asus-re...s-1920x1200-display-and-new-chassis-20120109/
So I'm not going to get the current prime. Also im waiting for a stylus enabled tegra 3 lenovo tablet, one came out but without stylus :/.
I want my tablet in couple months. but its going to take a while before the improved prime comes here. Asus just lost my interest in the original prime. If nothing interesting wont show up @ ces, i suppose i have to wait for the new prime.
Oh this is a really good idea!

Ill be picking up my 3rd tomorrow as well lol! I returned mine today thinking i would not miss it. Boy was i wrong, it took a little bit of prying from my hand at the return desk lol. I had a little bit of screen bleed about one or two reboots per day but pretty good wifi but no GPS. I thought i would not miss it. Boy was i wrong!
Its been not even 24hrs and im hunting one down! My gf says she knew i would , that its a sickness or a challange for me hahaha!
I knew i was making a mistake when i laid down a extra several hundred dollars at BB last night for a ultra book. YUCK! I told her look at it this way even when i get my Prime & the dock again we will be saving $300 bucks. Its a win win haha!
Prime Time!
I finally got my Prime Rooted and now I'm eagerly waiting for some cool custom firmware.
I've never posted anything here but have used the site for quite some time...
Anyway, I ended up bricking my TFP this morning by messing something up when reinstalling CM9... I got stuck in a fastboot loop that was maddening!
Bumble-Bee on #asus-transformer helped me out big time and we were able to fix the problem. Ended up flashing a custom CWM.blob directly to boot.img and viola!
I was gonna post this on the BRICK topic in the Dev forum but i dont have enough posts yet lol
Yes, finally got my prime rooted and overclocked at 1.6ghz. Antutu you're mine!
yep yep got it unlocked and rom'd and OC'd to 1.6
my antutu was 13210
damn this thing is fast.....lol
I had a TFP for a few days, it was very good but suffered from poor build quality the gps didn't work and there was light bleed bottom right hand corner, surffice to say i sent it back for a refund.

I'm in the same situation. What did you do that got it running again? My issue is that I can't get my computer (Windows 7-64bit) to recognize the device in fastboot.

Cancelled by Prime Order. Gonna wait for the TP TF700T

The Transformer Prime TF700T will likely be the first tablet released to sport a 2.3-million-pixel, 1,920x1,200 screen. For those keeping count, that's more than twice the pixel count of any previous tablets, which top out at 1,280x800 (1.02 millions pixels). No release date but I think its worth the wait.

Beats me why anyone is still considering buying Asus after the disregard they have so blatently shown for their customers.
I'll never purchase or allow to come into my home, another Asus product. There are plenty of other company's out there who haven't yet purposefully shafted their customer base.
Thanks for the info. Ill update my dkb218 fansite now.

And they should care about the opinions of someone who will never buy their products again?
It's kinda ironic though that the Transformers are the best software-supported tablets out there. Constant updates and usually among the first to get the latest.
Now that's...Mean.
Wait. I take it you're the early adapters who got stuck with the OLD version and are acting like you're on the rag because I posted this. Damn. Oh well.
Don't take in out on me little girle men. Call Asus and level a grip at them.
What else did I do today, you ask? I didn't by a Transformer Prime! HA, ha hardy har har!
and then you'll be waiting after that when someone brings out an even snazzier toy.
at what point will you actually stop and buy?
TF700 is slated Q2 which if normal release cycles are anything to go by will be the back end of that quarter and that will be provided there are no delays. they have to be able to produce a 600+ nits screen that can do full HD on mass production levels and hope they don't encounter any other problems.
then you have have whether or not ICS will cope with a full HD screen on normal day to day use, will apps? will ICS need tweaking to work properly? will tegra 3 be able to handle full HD res without dragging its ass like a dog.
I'm buying the prime now, with a weather eye on the TF700 down the line. no reason to deny myself in the meantime. play with the prime. sell it six to seven months down the line and get the newer model sounds like a plan to me.

Is Transformer Prime worth it?

I have been looking into buying a Transformer Prime Tablet but after coming on these forums I see that it isn't exactly a perfect machine. So how bad are these problems? How bad is the wifi? GPS? The tegra 3 is supposed to be 3x as fast as the tegra 2, is it? I understand that every piece of technology will have its ups and downs and you will always have people complaining but I hear even ASUS started acknowledging this? Also whats up with this new shut off problem and problems with updating or after updating?
Sorry to hit you guys with all these questions but Its a big investment, and my main use will be school.
Thanks in advanced!
Yes. If you want one of the better tablets out there, you desire a tablet that can replace most of a laptops functions and like a laptop you don't need a fully functional GPS you will love it.
If you are like all the other complainers out there about a tablet not having a GPS, then don't bother. We don't need another one of those complainers out there.
Good luck in your choice I am very happy with mine.

What about the wifi and the other common problems? Also I plan on getting a wifi only one anyways so gps can only do so much for me
I just bought mine yesterday and I love it. Theres a noticible speed difference between this and my tf101.
My wifi seems fine, not so sure about my gps because I havent tested it without wifi on, but with wifi it worked fine.
Im a college student and I use my tf in school, not for notes though, nothing will beat the feeling of pen on paper.
I use it for a planner in jorte calender to keep on top of my due dates.
I use it to capture pictures of powerpoint slides for professors that do not upload.
I use it on the bus there to play games, watch movies, watch cbt nuggets, study, or listen to music.
I use it as a second screen (gotta love the dock) for project writeups while I do forensics projects on computers in the computer lab.
I've also replaced my phone with google voice/skype - as I have a 4g hotspot .
Most importantly I use it to show the world how large my penis is by having a quadcore tablet.

GPS is the only common problem. All others are small numbers compared to whole of working devices. Just check out positive thread in my signature. The answer you seek is there. Don't get sucked into all this b.s. on the surface. Majority of prime owners happy with device n have no issues or hardly any. Decide for yourself. Look at both sides. Issues side tend to exaggerate n complain alot more. Not as many people have it as it may seem on surface. Plenty of polls hereto price that.

Thanks again. In theory it should of worked, but I forgot to mention I deleted the bloatware as well. I downloaded a system dump of system/app/, but I need to make nandroid backups before I swap something like that out, and I don't have a recovery console like cwm right now.

Check the thread you made..I posted in there
thanks, that was exactly what I needed. On paper it seems like a beast and in reviews it did amazing. But these forums kind of had me skeptical.
I bought many Prime after reviews online and testing one at the local store. But waiting for mine to be delivered I started finding threads about all these issues. Can honestly say I was scared I made the wrong choice.
However, no WiFi or GPS issues
Now - I have a ton of learning to do... this isn't quite what I was expecting and have a lot of setup to do to make use of this new toy.
I feel you. Yesterday I went around looking for them, and gamestop was the only place with them in stock. Their return policy is "once you open it, you're stuck with it". Nervously made the decision to buy it, handed over my 534 dollars. Opened it, perfect unit. Took the biggest sigh of relief.
i got this device a week ago, and everything works great for me. wifi is just fine
I don't have any shut off, random reboot or wifi problems with my prime, although the GPS doesn't work. The keyboard dock works extremely well (and is a handy backup battery). Personally I consider it a required feature for a tablet, which rather limits alternatives.
Although I am very happy with my prime, and it can do everything I require of it (which includes coding), it doesn't offer *quite* the performance I'd hoped for and if you don't feel you need a tablet I'd hold off for another generation. Tablet tech is good now but at the current rate of improvement this time next year it should be great.

Google's Project Glass looks amazing!

Read the info below (and definitely check out the video) for Google's no-longer-a-secret Project Glass. Hahaha.. yup car accidents, people falling down stairs, cliffs, buildings, getting hit by cars. Cant send a message with the person next to you hearing it, hmmm cool concept but skeptical of it being a safe device to use..
looks awesome and as far as safety id imagine some kind of lockup while driving or maybe just reading messages out loud and keeping the screen clear.
the lack of privacy is also somewhat troubling. some kind of projected keyboard would be a great integration to help with having to say things out loud or being in a noisy place.
What this video fails to show us is the 5lbs battery backpack. Have battery, processing and wireless communications really progressed to the point where all of it can fit comfortably within the weight-limit of a pair of glasses? I am dubious.

its actually not going to need a big battery. The screen its the biggest consumer on a device. Like 60% if your battery goes to your screen. These don't have a screen so it might be amazing on battery.

Privacy is the only thing I don't like about these glasses. People could be recording you and you would not even know it. It would suck also if someone hacked your glasses and watched you go every where.

Well they might make them with a speed limit, like anything above "normal" walking speed would shut the glasses off. (and above a certain excessive speed it turns back on, either to record you falling of a cliff or to be able to use as an airline passenger).
Why, oh, why can't people post in the right section? Unless Project Glass is going to be powered by a Transformer Prime in a back pack, then this should be in the...wait, it shouldn't be on XDA at all. This thing is a) not real, b) maybe won't run Android c) might not exist at all.
But then I guess with gas prices as high as they are we're probably all sitting at home being bored. *sigh* Continue misposting. No use arguing with the mob.
"one step closer to becoming a cyborg!!"
lol
First thing we should do when this is realeased is download the terminator app, go back in time, and stop that evil fruity company from launching

but what if you were in the passenger seat? Its a good idea though. But it would be cool if it displayed your speed and directions.

With that thing strapped to your face for so long... I would be worried about screen burn on the cornea.

WOW - This place is D-E-A-D

Title says it all. Guess it's time to look for a new device (Tegra 4???) then unlock and root my Prime. I still love my Prime, always have, always will.
It's not as loud as it used to be for sure.
Check out the TF300, TF700 forums too because a lot of stuff that applies to that also works on TF201.

Just a series of posts by folks that needlessly brick their TPs.
Post something new and interesting? We've had like ten primedeath threads... Still a capable device. Wait till we have nvflash again!

Like I said, I love my Prime. I'm just a little worried that the Dev's have abandoned it. I've rooted many devices in the past but it seems the Prime is very susceptible to bricking and I really don't want to do that. I’ve never bricked and of my devices and I don’t want to start with my $500 tablet. This is why I haven't tried to root yet. I hope we get 4.2 and an exploit can be found se we can root without unlocking. I guess I'll eventually unlock but I'd like to root first and I'm too am waiting on nvflash.:good:

Ya, with two kids and a full time job I really have time to sit down and learn code. Some may have that kind of time, not me. My slate is full.
Thanks for your "help".

Guess that kinda stuff can't be helped, Asus did leave a bad taste in the mouths of tf201 owners... *sigh*
Well, at the moment I use my Prime only for Netflix. After getting Nexus 4 I have not used Prime for couch surfing because it is so laggy for web browsing. Just checking for news about 4.2 update from time to time.
If I ever again buy a mobile device from Asus, it will be 10" Transformer Nexus.

I love my Prime! What's to be bitter about? It's the thinnest 10 inch tablet ever made. I don't have my wifi modem 7 miles away from my device and I don't mount a tablet as a GPS device in my car (why would anyone), so every thing is nice!

First things first, I dont believe you care if devs abandon the prime or not since you have already stated that you are unwilling to unlock your prime because you are afraid that you dont have the skill not to break it. What you want is for somebody to post an apk to root your prime with no effort to learn on your part. This is all fine, to each his own.
One place you wont find the primes devs is here complaining in the general section of this forum because nothing productive happens here. Over in the development section of this forum you will find devs hard at work porting 4.2, getting Ubuntu running, and porting paranoid android etc. I am glad this section of the forum is dying because it means most of the complainers and trolls have left for browner pastures.
Do yourself a favor, unlock your prime and go check out the cool new stuff for the prime over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1414
Dead? Au contraire, I visit the forums on a daily basis, I just don't feel the need to write pointless posts or start hopeless threads.
People like OP are why devs will abandon a device

Except it's virtually unusable without an unlock and custom kernel/ROM flash. And no, voiding our warranty by unlocking is not a viable workaround for crappy internals and poor Asus coding.
Otherwise, battery life is poor, wifi is awful beyond about a room away (and I have a top of the line $170 Asus RT-N66U router) to the point that I can't even use it to stream video to my TV in the bedroom (my galaxy S3 picks up wifi at 90% speed in the same place, vs the Asus at 10%), and GPS is non-functional (dongle doesn't count). Don't get me wrong, it is a workable device, but it's far from a good one. Thinness does not make up for it's very real shortcomings.

No. Devs abandon a device when people stop using it and the manufacturer stops supporting it. I doubt anyone actually gets butthurt because random internet posters are complaining. And the TF201 had a small user base to begin with.

And, just check out the developer area. There are at least two brand new ROM's there (Androwook 2.0 and the latest Energy) released even while this "dead" discussion was going on. These new ROMs bring the prime up the the very latest Android Version. Does not seem dead at all to me.

Perhaps you got a better device than some of us. In any case, I'm happy you've had good luck with yours, but many of us have significant issues with ours, especially the early adopters. Unfortunately, there is no fix for any of the issues I've described with mine.
Does anyone else around here feel that if they had the devices people are talking negatively about, you'd be just fine? Am I alone?
