Emulated games that you actually DO play - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
As most of you know there are emulators for most of the older gaming platforms out there for Android, for example NES, SNES, N64, Amiga etc. Alot of games on these platforms work really good on Android, but the controllers are often so bad that you cant be arsed to play it anyways.
Are there any emulated games that you actually DO play, and if so, which ones? I am eager to play some old console games on my phone but I have a hard time finding games that are actually playable and enjoyable with a touch screen controller.
(I got a Galaxy Nexus. Can't wait for a working version of GTA3!)

N64 is good. Goldeneye and Mario Kart work well on my Rezound. I also play backyard baseball sometimes with SCUMM VM

Castlevania symphony of the night with FPSE runs nice on my thunderbolt with onscreen controls but its perfect with a ps3 controller.

Anyone have Tyson Punchout?

Castlevania Aria of Shadows
Pokemon Emerald
On my poor little Wildfire they run well

Thanks for the tips. I am currently playing full throttle in ScummVM and can recommend it strongly. Also games like Broken Sword 1&2, Monkey Island 1-3 and Day of the tentacle seems very entertaining and easy to control due to the point-and-click system.

Any SNES turn based rpg. No need for more than 2 inputs at a time.

Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Vandal Hearts 2. All are PSX games and all play very well on my LG Thrill.

[Q] Best Games on Nook

What would you guys say are the best games available for the Nook?
I too am looking for a consolidated list of the best games.
Specifically, let's try and make this thread a list of the games that are stable on the NC, and also the specific versions of said games.
Let's post the method to legally acquire these games and what is needed to get the best version running on the NC, and/or the tricks necessary to have the best experience.
Of course Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons.
Also emulators + games (Snes,Genesis,etc)
All work great no tweaking..
Pocket Legends owns me right now
They say its WoW in your pocket, works great on NC
You can download for free on the pocketlegends.com android forum
sent from my NookColor
I've been playing Mini Squadrons and Grave Defense.
Bowquest
Doodle Jump
Gun Bros Beta
Hungry Shark
Meteor Blitz
Reckless Racing
Squibble
Zenonia
Zombie Defense
...all working great for me.
One thing to note: I have squareparts added.
My list(I only add games that work great):
4 Player reactor
Angry Birds
Astro
Basketball Shot
Bonsai Blast
Bow Man
Buka HD
Can Knockdown
Crazy God
Crush the Castle
Dungeon Hunter
eagle Nest
Fast and Furious: Adrenalin 3D
FireFox
GuitarHero 5
Gun Bros
Heavy Gunner
Homerun Battle 3D
Krazy Kart Racing
MiniGore (THE FUNEST GAME OF ALLL TIME)
NinJump
My Paper Plane
Penguin Golf
PSX4Droid
Rope Cut
Speed Forge 3D
Tank Hero
Totem HD
Transformers G1
PLants VS Zombies
These all look great. It seems like games that need to be rendered in real time(aka 3D games) will perform the best. The second will be games that use vectors, such as angry birds.
games
Pocket legends
angry birds season
zeonia
crazy snowboarder
For the Gameloft games, which method are people using to download?
On their website, you have to select a phone model and then enter a phone number.
Is there a best device model to choose? I was thinking of selecting the Galaxy Tab, and then sending the download link to my Droid. Then I was thinking, would it be better to select the Droid itself?
I was thinking it would be best to select a device that has the same or similar resolution as the NC, but... the Galaxy Tab has a better GPU, a PowerVR SGX540, compared to the NC's GPU (same as the Moto Droid and other TI OMAP devices: PowerVR SGX530)... so, not really sure. Trial and error usually doesn't lead to too many problems, but I've never bought any Gameloft games, no idea how it works in terms of getting different app versions, specifically for activiation or anything (if there is any activation).
edit:
And for games that don't show up in the market, what's a good legal method of getting these games? Just download on another Android device and load that apk onto the NC?
On my NC, I have the latest Market version found in another thread, but there are still a ton of apps that are not showing up when I perform a search. It's not an issue of only paid apps not showing up, even Firefox is absent on my NC's market.
Same as other people, but poolbreak pro is also good.
Robo Defense works, but requires Square Parts.
Disco, where'd you find Plants vs Zombies?

It's actually SPARE parts.

Ok, yea I'm using that. I thought it was something else because another person said about square parts earlier.
I haven't played Pocket Legends yet but I plan on changing that in the next few minutes!
All of the rest have worked fine for me. I spend most of my time playing with Nesdroid, Dungeon Hunter, and Angry Birds.
Also, Game Dev Story works great.

Would also love to know the answer to this question. I have both hero of sparta and dungeon hunter for my og droid but when i try and load them it says something to the effect of incompatible device.
If u could get spiderman total mayhem fro gameloft to DL the extra data I would say that is hands down the best playing/looking mobile game ever. I love it on my droid

So I just checked out Pocket Legends while I was on my lunch break. Thankfully I pretty much get to make my own schedule because my usual one hour break turned into about a two and half hour one. Thank you, thank you, thank you bigted41 for the suggestion!
Also, if you're in the market for a good, old school 8-bit RPG - Gurk runs pretty well.

Think GTA 3 will run on the NC?

Was on engadget today and saw that rockstar is going to release GTA 3 for the following devices.
Apple iOS Devices: iPad 1 & 2, iPhone 4 & 4S, iPod touch 4th Generation
Android Phones: HTC Rezound, LG Optimus 2x, Motorola Atrix 4G, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola Photon 4G, Samsung Galaxy R, T-Mobile G2x
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Dell Streak 7, LG Optimus Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Toshiba Thrive
Think we have a shot or not enough power?
We definitely don't have enough power because we can barely run any of the higher end games (shadowgun) I'm sure that well be able to get it running, but probably terribly. Also this game doesn't even have that great of graphics... just bad optimization
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Shadowgun runs fine for me on one of the later nightlies overclocked to 1.2ghz. I also have GangStar running with no issues to.

GT racing, Asphalt 6, Modern Combat 2, Sacred Odyssey all run great for me. That being said with Gameloft already having Gangstar (which runs great BTW) there isn't much need for an actual GTA. GTA3 might be worth it if there was a way to put the Real GTA mod on it.
fine, fine maybe shadowgun was a bad example but what about 9mm, riptide, fast five, dungeon defenders, etc. those don't even force you to have a dual core device... remember we're pushing 1024x600(thats 614,400) pixels of 3D on old hardware... also I'm not so sure about the definition of "it runs fine" these days. Some people seem to convince themselves that things run great when they're not (myself included)

How did you get the crosshair in the middle, the damage indication, and the dragable looking area to fill the whole screen??? I've tried tons of different versions to no avail I've even looked at your thread and used the version listed to no avail. thanks in advance
yea gangstar makes gta3 look kind of dated.
I did notice a bunch of slowdowns trying high quality games on my Nook however a second later I noticed I was running on the conservative governor and facepalmed myself.
Switched to performance governor and everything was a breeze...
One way or another, we won't know until it's released, right?
I wouldn't be surprised if it runs. The NC is a little gem. That said, how is it going to playable on a touchscreen? And... an honest question... is GTA III really that fun? I just picked it up in a steam pack and it didn't take too long for me to move onto Vice City (and then stop playing that a little while later). It'll probably be more impressive to run on a phone/tablet but it felt like an early tech demo compared to a lot of "modern" games.

The entire screen is bound to controls, take a look at the picture of it on engadget... its a little overwhelming
Touchscreen controls urgh...
I still pair a PS3 Controller via Bluetooth every time I play PS1 / N64 games on my Nook... I really hope they add Bluetooth Controller support to the game.
Yeah, having real controller support would be nice. I did see the screenshots, and it's just really hard to play games with a virtual d-pad and even just *two* buttons (to me), let alone 6 or 8, especially when it includes what are supposed to be shoulder buttons.
On a side note, I mucked around a little with the onlive app, and that suffers from the same thing (the virtual controls). That said, OnLive does have newer, more compelling games, although it requires a constant, good data connection.
Nook Color seems to me to be able to push Dreamcast level graphics at 1024x600. Most games with that level of graphics seem to run at around 20-30fps at best.
The main reason GTA3 is so much more demanding than seems reasonable is that it's a sandbox game with a large, open world. It's not all that much different than say Elder Scrolls.
Game is out now and market says it should work on the NC. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rockstar.gta3 Anyone got it to work?
It hangs Nook dead rght after intro movies. CM 7.1.0 Stable.
With chainfire nvidia plugin, screen stays black upon launching the app
soooo I take it as a no go. Darn. Well it works on my electrify but as stated earlier the controls take up way to much room. I'll try a wiimote I guess.
Anyone have any luck getting this to run? Would think it would be possible to and to control it with a PS3 controller connected via bluetooth.
Got it to work! Download GTA 3 version 1.1, use chainfire 3D and set default plugin to POWERVR, awful cellphone video below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKN9QRGq09E
EDIT: Will test more in the morning, jump to 1:00 to see 30 seconds of "gameplay" before I flip the car
why do we have to use the powervr plugin? nook color actually has a powervr gpu
I didnt need any plug in. I installed CM7 last night and gta was in "my apps" and it runs better than on my shift. Lol

Compatible Games with PS3 Controller

Hi Guys,
Can anyone confirm the games which are compatible with PS3 Controller?
I am thinking of buying one..
LIST OF COMPATIBLE GAMES:
GTA3
Muffin Knight
Pool Break
Riptide GP
ShadowGun
Shine Runner
Sonic CD
Soulcraft THD
Well for my own experience, here is my two cents
psone games (ofcourse)
nes.emu (Nintendo Entertainment System)
snes9x Ex (Super Nintendo) <-- this one however I believe is removed from Market.
ColEm (Coleco Vision)
I have not had time to try any other. But I believe there is more than this that would work. It is well worth the money to buy one, if you ask me.
well, I am looking for android games which are compatible with PS3 controller..

GTA 3 works well with controller
GTA 3 works well. Button mappings are a bit different than the original but once you get the hang of them it is very playable.
Cm'on guys..please try and confirm if other good android games can b played with ps3 controller..
Sega Sonic Adventure is supported I believe..
sent via awesome aRc (rooted 2.3.4)
Are you referring to sonic cd? Or is sonic adventure on the market too now? If so holy crap why can't I find it
Also you could just get n64droid, a nintendo 64 emulator. Works pretty well on the sony tablet. It allows for complete control mapping, so you could be tearing up some Zelda or Mario cart on a Sony controller .
The developer did however pull it from the market for some reason (even though he had plenty of customers like me that paid around $6 for it), so you will have to find it elsewhere. Development for it has continued even though its not on market... confusing.

I can tell you that ShadowGun is fully working (already finished), just go to setup/gamepad and map your keys
also played 3 minutes Inertia HD... not really impressed by it... but it's working
Sonic CD is definitly compatible. There are some weird things like not being able to pause in game using the controller (you have to presss the pause icon on the screen) but otherwise it works fine.
Edit: I just reread the original post and it loks like i misunderstood. I thought you were looking for confirmation on GTA and Sonic CD being compatible with the PS3 controller. When I get a chance I'll see what else I have on my tablet that I can add to you list. to note, all emulators ive tried (FPSE, Gameboid, Snesoid, Nesoid, Gensoid, GBCoid, Ataroid and Gearoid) work with the ps3 controller
Shadowgun works GREAT once you assign the buttons, but the analog sticks work natively and brilliantly.

I am unable to try out Asphalt 6 right now.
I also tried out Muffin Knight and Reckless Racing. In both games you can use the controller to play the game but you cant really navigate and select thing in menus with it

inviato dal mio Sony Tablet S usando Tapatalk HD
Hmm this is a great thread. I was wondering that myself.
Anyways, Muffin Knight does work with the controller... but I don't think you can use a button to jump. you have to use the up key on the dpad to jump. This makes it tough, especially when you get the double jump ability.
I have a load of games on my tablet which I'll test tomorrow. If anyone wants me to specifically try a certain game just ask. I have about 150 games purchased now and no qualms about buying more lol.
It's great to hear shadow gun works btw! I refuse to buy fps games on a touch screen because I can't control them to save my life lol. I'll list what I come up with by Friday at the latest
List of Working and non working titles
I got up early and started testing a few games. I'll include a list of non working titles as well just so everyone knows. Any notes will be in brackets after the title
NOTE: I decided to add an Almost working section in the middle of the list. Theres a couple games that nearly work 100% but a critical button doesn't work. Emailing the devs may get that fixed promptly!
WORKING
-Shadowgun
-SupaSupaX (Unable to pause with controller)
-Muffin Knight (Have to jump with up on d-pad)
-All PS1 games from the PS Store
-Soulcraft THD (Works great!!!)
-Sleepy Jack (Works....but controls are a little weird. You click the left stick to shoot and click the right stick to use the slow bomb)
-Grand Theft Auto 3
-Shine Runner
-Symphony of eternity (Although you need to click the left stick to accept combat decisions)
ALMOST WORKING
-They Need to be Fed (left/right work on dpad and analog stick, but jump doesn't!)
-Karoshi (Left/right working on dpad and stick again, but unable to jump)
-Dark Incursion (Jump and shoot are combined into the X button..powers don't work)
-Reckless getaway (Left right work, can't activate pickups)
NOT WORKING
-Pocket Legends
-Dungeon Defenders
-Bang Bang Racing THD (Drag...I can barely play this with the on screen controls)
-Dead On arrival
-Attack from outer space
-Wind up Knight
-Mike V- Skateboard Party
-Summit X Snowboarding
-Minecraft Pocket Edition
-Destinia
-Megastunt Mayhem
-Age of Zombies
-Puffle Launch
That's it for now. Is it possible for a moderator to keep a stickied post at the top of all 100% working games? If not, no big deal. We can just periodically copy/paste all working games with new additions as the last post.
How about onlive? Can anyone confirm if this works with the ps3 controller?
Has anyone tried Sonic 4 Episode 1? I'd like to know how well it works
compatible titles
thanks for this list, i'll keep my eyes open for more. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to get some things out here in Kuwait, but when I get home I'll check some more ut.

FPS Games

I was just wondering if anyone has played any FPS games on their Rezound? I have been hooked on NBA Jam, but was wondering how other "real" games are. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Shadow Gun
Mass Effect Infiltrator
Dead Trigger
All play beautifully on the Rezound.
I personally stay away from Gameloft, since they have screwed me over many times and refuse to honor my purchases.
black ops zombies
nova 3
battlefield bad company 2
dead trigger (tegra 3 mod to make it look excellent)
modern combat 3
not fps but
asphalt 7
spiderman
the dark knight rises
n64oid if yiou like zelda or super smash
now some of these games arent available on the market so you may have to find other means of acquiring them
good luck hope ive helped happy gaming
Awesome, just what I was looking for. Thank you for the input, now we need to get one of those GameKlips for this thing and we will be golden!
Can't say they run at 60fps but they still work well.

Couch co-op, multi-controller, multiplayer Android TV games

I have decided to update this and add some more that aren't just co-op, but anything multiplayer. If any of you have any suggestions for other games that have similar functionality, please feel free to post them below!
All of the games below are local multiplayer, meaning you don't have to have a second device, or play online. A few tips to remember when playing Android multiple controller games. Android looks for any input device and will assign it as a controller. So if you have a mouse plugged in, or anything else in the USB port, some of the games will have difficulty recognizing the second controller. Another thing to remember is that it usually makes whichever player clicks on the app 1st, the 1st player. 1st player will usually have control in menus, and often times in games like JuJu, the screen will follow player 1 predominantly.
Without further ado, and in no particular order:
PAID
Stikbold! $9.99 - This game is great as a cooperative game, and it can be fun as a competitive game. It runs flawlessly on the SATV. You can play through the story together, or you can compete together against "bots" in single matches. You can also go one on one, or add bots to your respective teams and play against each other. It falls into a category of a fully developed game with no BS. Therefore they have to charge more to cover their development.
JuJu $9.49- JuJu is a fun side scrolling run and jump type game. Something like Mario Bro's Wii, your partner will even end up in a bubble if they die or fall behind. It's basic enough that kids can catch on quickly, but still fun and challenging for an adult. You get fun new abilities as you go. When I bought it was on sale for about half this price. I might keep an eye on it, as it may go on sale again.
Age of Zombies $.99- This game was a little too violent for the family, it's on here because some people might be more relaxed about it. It is fun, and for $.99 it's a good time.
Never Alone $4.99 - This is such a unique game. It has these beautiful videos taken right from native Alaskan people and culture. It's truly a cultural experience to play this game, but it's also a great co-op game. The girl and the fox have unique abilities, and it's great at building teamwork, but doesn't leave you frustrated. I highly recommend it.
Chariot $7.49 - This game is too expensive for me to wholeheartedly recommend. It's a decent game, and I would pay $3 for it. The voice acting is great, but the puzzles can be frustrating, and you really have to know how to work as a team. But it is a co-op multiplayer, and I did buy it and play it, so I put it here.
Meltdown $6.36 - There is a free version of this game in the play store, but the one that works on Android TV is $6. In my opinion, it's well worth it, it was super fun to play together. This one would be great for 4 players. The more you have, the easier it is. Saving up coins to unlock other characters is something that keeps you busy and gives you a goal to look forward too. The "arcade" mode, which is what you have to play for local multiplayer, isn't as developed as normal mode, but it's still worth the money in my opinion.
Trine 2 $4.95 - This one is a fun puzzle adventure. What makes it appealing is the different characters using their unique skill set to solve challenges as a team. The game is similar to an old SNES/Genesis game called Lost Vikings. If you remember/liked that, you will love this.
Riptide GP 2 $1.99 - I recently downloaded this one. It's fun but simple. It is a slow grind to get enough money to buy the good waverunners. The fun comes in leveling up which allows you to learn new skills/tricks. These tricks give you more boost and make it easier to win races. This is one of the few that supports 4 controllers, so if you happen to have 4, it's fun for the whole family.
Octodad $4.99 - This game kept popping up on the Shield carousel, and I kept ignoring it, because it looked so stupid. I finally caved because my son kept asking and I bought it. I didn't know it was actually multiplayer co-op! One of you can control certain appendages, like the legs, and the other can control the arms. The game is all about convincing people you aren't an octopus. The difficulty is you move like an octopus. The dialogue and voice acting is AAA, and the game is actually hilarious. But more than that, it's not just a silly time waster, it's a good challenging puzzle type game. It's great fun as a co-op campaign.
Heroes of Loot 2 $3.99 - This is a fun little dungeon crawler that can be played with 2 controllers. Gameplay gets a little repetitive. The graphics are poor by design, but they do give you that nostalgic feeling. Each player chooses 2 characters that they switch between to use their different abilities. If you like the old school top down games, this is a good one.
OUYA collection $4.99 - $7.99 - The OUYA (may it rest in peace), actually had a great focus on this type of gaming. So many of the games developed for it seemed to be all about playing with a friend or 3. The only one in this collection that's actually co-op is Mercenary Kings. But, the only one that doesn't support multiple controllers is I am Bread. So I figured I would throw the whole list here.
Siegecraft Commander $9.99 - A lovely real time strategy game. This is an homage to the original Warcraft. Great voice acting, game play, and graphics. I can't remember exactly how cooperative it is, but I do know it supports multiple controllers and makes for a fun family game night.
Tennis Champs $2.99 - Someone in the thread mentioned Tennis Champs. This is a remake of a classic Amiga game. It's fairly simple in it's mechanics and gameplay. I personally would rather load up Mario Tennis for N64 using MupenFZ. But you can play some doubles on the same team, or play competitively against the computer in this.
Killing Floor: Calamity $4.99 - Another one that is too violent for my purposes. But it's a top down zombie shooter with plenty of blood and destruction. It can be played with two players cooperatively.
Jackbox Party 1-4 $24.99 - I haven't actually played these games, but those that have say this is a great set of party games. I believe you can use controllers, but I do know some of the games have people use their own mobile device to interact. In any case, it is a game where multiple people play together in the same room.
Cublast HD $4.99 - I have no personal experience playing this, but I intend to buy this one. It looks like it could be a lot of fun with two people. It's an arcade puzzler with a level editor. The two player mode looks to be a sort of competitive co-op. You can download maps created by internet users as well.
NEO TURF MASTERS $3.49 - A retro arcade golf game. You could play this through an emulator, but this is definitely easier, and probably worth the $ if you are into this game. It's hot seat multiplayer, not simultaneous, but could be great fun with a friend.
Hotlap Heroes $3.99 - A top down arcade racing game. It reminds me of a game I used to play in the arcade that had a red, yellow, and blue steering wheel called "Off Road".
Ice Rage Hockey $1.99 - Very simple hockey game, but surprisingly fun. It's probably just slightly more complex than an air hockey simulator might be, because it's just one on one. But, if you buy this for Android TV, it will also work on your phone or tablet for 2 player because the virtual controls are simple enough to fit both on a screen.
Ultimate Chicken Horse $11.99 - This is a console quality game. You and your friends build an obstacle course together. The objective is to build something that you can pass, but they can't. It's a bit of a slow start as far as competitive games go, but once the course starts to take shape, you can see the strategic masterminds start to stand out. It's pricey for Android, I think it's fair for the amount of development that went into it.
Pix the Cat $4.99 - This is without question my FAVORITE competitive local multiplayer game available for Android! Playing pix with 4 people is insanely fun! The gameplay is fast paced, strategic, but also very easy to learn and get good at. I have had matchups between 3 grown men and my 10 year old niece where she was able to hold her own. I highly recommend this one for a party game. As an added bonus there is a single player mode. The two modes might as well be completely different games, so you could say you are getting a 2 for 1.
Natural Soccer $3.49 - I haven't personally played this one, but the description on the Nvidia store says it supports 4 controllers for local play. The reviews aren't great, but for what it's worth most of those seem to be coming from mobile screens, and what negative reviews there are, the developer seems to be very responsive to.
FREE or Ad Supported
Neon Shadow - This is a first person shooter. What makes this great for me is it's not terribly violent. You are killing artificial intelligence robots, there is no blood, just explosions, and the multiplayer split-screen works really well. Levels may be a little repetitive, but it's super fun. I don't know how intrusive the ad's are because I paid for this app when it wasn't ad-supported.
Beach Buggy Racing This is hands down one of my favorites. I believe you do have to spend $5 or so to unlock multiplayer mode. But this game is well worth it. If you ever liked any kart racing games, this is an incredibly fun racing game that will give you hours of enjoyment. The truth is it's not really co-op, because you aren't a team. But you aren't really against each other exclusively, since you are trying to beat all the other racers. I find it's a great one to play with a friend.
Badland - Fun game that is very simple to play, but difficult to master. It supports up to 4 players, but it's really fun with just 2. This one again is a game with such an easy learning curve, anyone in the family can play.
Bombsquad - This one is harder to pickup out of the gate. But it's a very fully developed game. It wasn't something a developer threw together in a few weeks. It has great physics, and complex gameplay. It is a freemium model and I can't remember if you have to pay to unlock multiplayer. If so, then I categorized it wrong. It requires a lot of teamwork to pass the challenges because they can be difficult and you can easily end up bombing your teammate.
Duck Game Demo - I love this game. It's a battle arena game. But, it's not found on the play store, and I feel like it deserves an audience. Special thanks to shadywhere and a list of games from him, on Reddit. The whole demo thing will make you feel like you are really missing out. But don't worry, the full version isn't that much more amazing. The demo still provides plenty of free fun.
Stickman Soccer 2016 - This one is a really simple, but well done soccer game. You can join the same team, which makes it much easier to set up crosses into the box. It's ad supported, but very smooth for a free game.
Stickman Soccer 2018 - This is an improvement on gameplay from 2016, but it turned into a cash grab. It's trying to mimic FIFA Ultimate Team and get you to spend money upgrading your squad. The multi-controller mode is tucked away in quick match. You may have to pay for an IAP to unlock it, I can't remember. But, I think the minnimum is $2 and it removes the ads, and might unlock the game. It also only supports 2 controllers now and not 4, but the gameplay is still excellent. If you can ignore all the obnoxious stuff.
Dead Effect 2 - I haven't actually played this one, and there seems to be some sort of trick to unlocking multiplayer https://steamcommunity.com/app/394760/discussions/0/412447331646891466/? I don't know if this is applicable to Android as well as the Steam version. This one is unfortunately too violent for my family console. If someone wants to give it a run and report back with results, I will update the thread.
Sky Force Anniversary - This is a classic arcade blaster. It's fun, but can be a little repetitive. The upgrading system is a little complicated. But it is the type of game that's a lot more fun with a friend than without.
Zombie Show - Haven't played this one, but it looks like a zombie apocalypse racer. It is rated M.
Bomber Friends - Bomberman clone, but it does support local as well as online multiplayer. It looks like from the reviews this game might be a bit of a cash grab. I personally might get an emulator and emulate bomberman 3 for the SNES first, but if that's not your thing, maybe this is.
Eternal - This is a strategy card game, something like Magic the Gathering maybe. It's not really my thing, so I don't have a lot of experience with it, but maybe those who do can comment.
Clash - Fun battle arena game that is completely free. No IAP, no ads, just a totally free game. There is no single player mode, and no co-op, but the multiplayer competitive is fun and entertaining, and easily worth the $0 you will pay.
Real Racing 3 - Realistic looking racing game. Reminds me of Gran Turismo from back in the day. You have to play through the single player tutorial, and you get a car. Once you have done that, then you can play "party mode", which should be a little icon at the top. One problem I have on the Shield Pro is that it recognizes the IR receiver as a controller. If you happen to be using a universal remote with IR, it will actually drive the car. But, any other connected gamepads will be automatically assigned. On the non-pro shield, you shouldn't have the same problem.
Tiny Little Racing 2 - Basic little racing game. Kind of like Micro Machines.
Hey thanks for this breakdown man! I live with my girlfriend and am in a similar boat. We already play JuJu together, good fun. Also Lego Avengers in 4k, but that's not comin from the Shield.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but how did you get Gang Beasts to work? It doesn't show in Nvidia Game Stream (I have to access it via Steam), and I have the issue where the first controller controls everyone.

You have to enable multi-controller by holding the "start" button, then choosing the three dots in the right corner, and enabling multi-controller. It will look something like this.

If you have already done that, then I usually go with the classic advice of just restarting everything. Restart the PC, and the shield. Then make sure all the controllers you are using are connected BEFORE launching the steam gamestream app.
If you have done that, and it's still not working, try looking at the settings you have in Steam. Under Steam>settings>controller settings. It opens in "big picture mode" and has a number of options to try to determine what the problem is.
Hi, maybe there were created more good local multiplayer Android games with gamepad support since the publishing of the post?

Bombsquad doesn't require to pay to unlock multiplayer. A great game btw.
There are more local multiplayer games out right now, but still we could use some more decent quality titles.
Personally I highly recommend Sky Force Anniversary - the best high quality old school shooter for android. It is awesome in 2 player mode.
Ones I have not tried yet:
Tennis Champs - I believe it supports local multiplayer. I played it in the old days on Amiga and it was fun (like 4 player fun!)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jakyl.tcr&hl=en
If you know other titles, please keep them coming.

I found a few more and added them to the list. As I find more I will keep adding them.
List Maintenance
The links for Stikbold!, Age of Zombies, Chariot, Siegecraft Commander, Killing Floor: Calamity, NEO TURF MASTERS, Duck Game Demo, and Clash seem to be broken.
I would like to add a few:
Auralux: Constellations - Strategic space battle with a relaxing soundtrack. Up to four players order their forces to other planets with the goal of wiping out everyone else. It has enough free levels to learn the techniques and strategies, or to play casually on a games night. Full sets of levels are for sale but purchasing all of them is pricey.
Cardcast - Apples to Apples type game where a player chooses the card they prefer from those secretly submitted by the others. The game is silent, which means you will need to add your own narration to make things more fun. Many types of games use the I Hope They Pick My Card style (such as Cards Against Humanity) and there are additional card packs available for purchase. It uses Chromecast, so, like the Jackbox Party Packs, players use devices rather than controllers.
Stickman Base Jumper 2 - Jump from tall places and try to stick the landing. This game has one-button control, so it is very quick to learn. It uses Pass-and-Play for multiple players in Party Mode, which means only one controller is necessary. Level and player selection are a bit awkward. Even so, it is a lot of fun to watch your friend's skydiving efforts fail tragically in a variety of ways.
Hi who can share this game? Chariot its missing on play store.
pls help find CHARIOT
