Any idea when does the price drop start? - Motorola Droid RAZR

It has been a while, but the price seems to be pretty stagnant...
any ideas when will it come down a little, perhaps if not a lot?

Probably when a newer and more attractive phone comes out...another month or two would be my guess for the corporate stores to drop the price to 250

You can get a good deal from best buy mobile, amazon, wirefly, etc. If you want to buy the phone from verizon when the price drops other better devices will be out and you're not going to be able to resist them.

Thanx. That was my guess too. But since nothing moved for almsot 2 months now, was doubting my instinct.
Will the entry of Droid 4 have any effect on the RaZr's prices?+ when is the Droid 4 coming anyways?
Also, what is the price in the USA right now? Somewhere it says 299$, somewhere else it says 730$...so how much does it cost?
299$ means only 13k in India, but it is sold for 34k...more than double...i wonder why?

Phones in the US sell at a discount when you sign a two year contract with the service provider it's not like in India. So 300 in contract is the price with contract through Verizon Wireless and 730 is without a contract. Some third party vendors will sell for cheaper though that's how a lot of us got the phone for .01 cent with a contract.

Hmmm...so does that mean you practically pay only the provider & not the manufacturers? I mean what would Motorola earn out of 0.1 Cent?
Anyways, just wanted to know if the 34,000 price tag is valid and when is the price dropping...my birthday comes in less than a month (23 Jan) and this looks like the best gift my lovely granny can give me, so was thinking of how much will it drop to?
Will it drop also or not?

Yes that's basically right the providers have contracts with the manufacturers for the phones and the providers usually lose money on the devices when they give them at a discount but they make much more money on the service so it's worth it to lock customers into a two year contract for service. I don't think anyone can really predict the exact moment the price will drop for you especially in India but I mean technology moves so fast these days I'd guess another month or two and you'll see a drop of 3000-5000 or so.

AT&T Xperia $350 OFF-Contract?

I was on the AT&T site and apparently the xperia x10 is only 350 off contract. Doesn't that seem a bit low? makes me wonder if it is a mistak. has anyone tried buying it at this price from a store?
(Link : http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...ony+Ericsson+Xperia+(TM)+X10&q_sku=sku4840223 )
If this is true, then I am mad.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought it for 550.............
That is currently the average price on ebay but the ATT version come with a 2gb while the other versions comes with 8Gb or 16Gb
The price of computers depreciates considerably faster than that of other products. This should be common knowledge to those who have purchased or had purchased for them a computer within the last three decades.

Go to ATT retail store they will give you a better deal, the online website is more expensive!!
I got my X10 from there yesterday for a total of $240
$150 for phone
$75 for early upgrade fees
+ activation fees
after you get it debrand it to LAM R2BA026 and you should be set
They are talking about the no contact price. Under contact extension you can get the phone for $90 from lets talk, maybe cheaper from amazon or wire fly

be glad you are only bind in a 2yr contract.
We rogers user are bind for 3 years at same price, while forcing to pay the unusually highly expensive network. But i won't complaint since their service is great.
Not saying they won't, just saying the original point off the post was about the no contact pricing, which if correct, I'd about $200 cheaper than other carpets around the world had out for at launch. What really amazes me about att its the disparity between the amount they are subsidizing among different phones. If I am not mistaken, the subsidized price of the x10 is $150, no contact price is $350? Iphone 4 subsidized is $200, no contact is what, $800+? How do they take $600 off 1 phone, and only $250 off another, when they both require the same expensive data plan?

the actual retail price at att corp stores is $300.
i was calling around to see which corp stores had them in stock and asked for the no commitment pricing to see if they matched the att website. one rep out of the three i spoke with, actually looked in the system and said $300. visited 3 corp stores in the last 2 days and all the displays say $350, but once they scan the phone, it comes up at $300.

I heard that AT&T doesn't allow 3rd party apps to be installed.. is that true? if so, no swype for u guys
there's gotta be some catch to this right?
350 is way too low, i paid 520 for mine.
aren't there activation fees, taxes, and such?
also the phone must come locked right, so u have to use att's network and u cant use t mobile?
350 is wayy to low, especially for a high end phone like the xperia, which in my opinion looks better than the iphone 4 and will probably perform better with froyo.
What I gather is there's an activation fee and early termination fee for the no commitment option, but it's less than $100 total which is still low compared to buying it on Ebay...

no additional fees for a no-commitment purchase (it cost me $320.99 out the door including sales tax). it is locked to att and you have to be an att customer to make the purchase. i have never had a problem getting the unlock codes from att on any of my previous phones.

I'm totally with you on this. At the time I made this post I swear I was at the point where I thought this date was at least 90% accurate. Now Best Buy IS taking pre-orders as of this morning but won't give me a date or a price? I dunno, sketchy and I don't just hand out money and not know anything about what I get in return, lots of other dates flying around too. I think there will be a Super Bowl commercial I certainly hope so, if not Verizon is shooting itself in the foot here.

They are offering their buyback program on this phone for free (everything is for the first week). The basis for the price of the phone is RETAIL. This phone minimum will be $599. At the 10 month mark they will buy back your phone for $240. I think that will compare with a one year plan rather well.

That's not as good as it sounds, I can sell a 1 year old TBolt for 300 on craigslist. Let's do the math a 599.99 phone (regularly priced at 199.99 on contract) will get you a buy back of 240. The retail price of most phones is 599.99 thats 600-240=360. I'd be paying 360 for my next phone!
My next upgrade would cost me almost 1 and a half times more than if I just signed a 1yr contract and paid 70 extra dollars up front. Not to mention Verizon bends backwards when you approach your out of date contract. They've called me a few times about certain "offers" since I'm almost out of contract to get me to renew. On top of all this after I get the upgrade I can still get the 300 extra dollars by selling the phone on craigslist myself making my next upgrade 100% free + profit. I don't sign 2yr contracts it's not worth it in this industry.
This was just tweeted by @Verizonwireless (the official VZW Twitter): "HTC Thunderbolt: no updates to report. We'll share what's real, when it's real, directly. Here."
Looks like we're left in the dark a while longer. Sounds like it's not decided yet, or the release date is too far off for them to announce. Looks like... we should probably be thinking later rather than sooner. Bummer.

Its got to be the 14th. Verizon wouldn't let the biggest electronics retailer in the U.S. to be telling thousands of people a false release date. As someone said earlier, the only reason best buy is saying the 14th is because Verizon told them!

is the price on this phone ever going to go down, because 7-800 dollars is high, but with the warranty and taxes it goes over the roof, anyone have a clue if the prices is a marketing heist and will drop or will it stick?
More customers than phones at present so it will stay same level and in fact price has gone up since i bought mine .£399 PAYG now £480 .
It actually worked out near enough the same price as i had paid for SGS 1 .

It's not that this phone is really expensive it's that quantitative easing has diminished to value of the dollar, the phone won't get much cheaper unless the fed stops printing money, if you look at the price of the phone in real money (ie gold) so can see that the phone is actually about half the price the sgs1 was at introduction!

But if you ain't got the money yeah well it's expensive. Iphone's even dearer !!
Enjoying phone by the way and happy with what I paid.
I got it free with me new contract but it was £399 over here for a while, the US are just used to getting phones cheap compared to us in the UK so I guess we got it lucky this time lol
About the same price that we pay here. The iPhone4 32GB was over US$1000! It will hurt now that you are paying the actual global price and not the reduced price that the US's great market volume is able to command. Still, it is a great phone for $700 though.

Best Buy prices it at $749 but I'm reading everyone getting unsubsidized at $649

Just wondering why Best Buy is charging more. I will ultimately pay everything subsidized price, but am taxed on the $749 price.

Because that's the price we got them at. it sucks because if we got them at 650 my employee price would be around 500 if you're buying outright though we will gladly price match atts 650

Subsidized: BB making money on your monthly bills. It adds up nicely for 2 years.
Unsubsidized: BB making money on phone sale only.
Most 3rd party retailers ask more than AT&T's list price for unsubsided price.
This is not a surprise. Bestbuy's unsubsidized prices are always way over everyone else's. The same can be said for pretty much any product they carry.

True. It's better to buy the phone outright from AT&T itself. Although BB has one of the best prices when it comes to upgrades, after awhile when it goes down, of course. I've never used Wal-Mart to upgrade, even though I heard they have the lowest price when it comes to upgrades.
I have always been successful in getting Best Buy to match the ATT store price on no commitment prices. Best Buy has no restock fee just in case you are not 100% you will keep the phone, which I am never sure when buying no commitment. Plus, it is easier to get gift cards from Best Buy...
As far as being taxed for $749, sounds like a state issue...

That does suck. They are not required to do it. The one I shop at has like 3 ATT stores within 5 miles so they call to make sure the phone is in stock at the ATT store and then they discount the phone to match.
Maybe find a BB with ATT stores close by?

I'll do that next year once I'm due for my upgrade. I'm going to use it to get the S3 once it comes out and see if anyone would price match it. Although I'm not hopeful.
The Note was the one thing that was going to get me to upgrade and renew my at&t contract...which I hadn't done since 2007 with the original iPhone.
But unless a 3rd party vendor drops the subsidized pricing rather soon to a more reasonable price, I won't upgrade.
On top of that, my current contract doesn't let me use LTE...due to APN issues. So I'm gonna wait to see if someone finds a way around that (if it's actually possible).
They don't make money off the subsidized phone over the 2 years. They get around $200-350 from the phone company after the sale.
I was a part of the group that started BB Mobile in 2006.

Thanks for clarify that. The main profit comes from the 2-year contract. What I didn't know is AT&T pay them up front.

Is $200 bucks a good deal for this phone?

Is this phone still worth $200 barely used? I want to replace my old incredible asap.

Well my current contract doesn't run out till december and no upgrades till august
I'm sure if you call in you can get em to bump your upgrade date esp if its only like 4 months away.

Really? That's extremely disappointing considering just a month ago I paid $199 for it.

Is that even possible? To convince the almighty Verizon to give me an early upgrade
yea u can^ keep calling around... someone wants a sell
200 is an excellent deal if its in the condition they say it is and has the beats headphones. It's still a good deal without the headphones.
make sure you verify the esn before purchase.
Its easy to get early upgrades from Verizon if you call them. It has become pretty difficult in store as of late as they all seem to have the same script. Just tell them your current phone is driving you bat **** and you cant take it anymore. Also mention you've tried to wait it out. They will ask you what phone you want, and then they will send you the phone overnight for whatever 2yr price is currently listed on the VZ website. Your upgrade will vanish and your upgrade cycle will restart.
You could always buy the Rezound off contract now and get whatever phone is at the top of the pile in august.
I picked up a GNEX on CL for 275.00 even though I have an upgrade available. It replaced my sons DX2. I'm saving the upgrade for the next great VZ phone, which will save me from a 600-800 dollar off contract price on release day(impulse buyer).
I currently have 5 lines and I try to keep one upgrade available at all times just in case.

I've gotten upgrades 1 year + early. Just depends on who you talk to and what you say. Also factors such as tenure, payment history , ARPU (how much $$ you are worth to VZW) etc etc.
oh wow that could mean I could get the rez for 50 bucks now. I really don't see too may phones popping up other than the one v but even then we've hit a point in hardware where only battery tech may improve over the next year. 1.5ghz dual core and plenty of ram will run sense4.0 easy along with any 3.5 rom.
I've only been with vzw for a year and a half now with a family plan of 3 lines but my phone is my main line of work communication calls emails etc.

They're pushing out Quadcore SoC's already this year. It's nice but totally unecessary, at this point hardware is overpowered. At this point in game it's all about software optimizations. But manufacterer's need to make them cash dollars $$$. Just try calling Verizon when they open up tomorrow and see if you can get your upgrade pushed.

Call Verizon, I believe they will credit you if it's been within a certain period you bought the phone.
