[Q] Will this phone pick up 3G on AT&T when unlocked? - HTC Radar

I have the HTC Radar 4G on T-Mobile. Once I unlock it and use it on At&T, it will definitely do calls, but will it pick up 3G or 4G on the AT&T network? I asked HTC and they were unsure. Thanks!

AT&T uses 850 MHz / 1900 MHz for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and the same two frequencies (850 / 1900) for UMTS/HSPA (their 3G/4G service).
T-Mobile uses the same frequencies (850 / 1900) for GSM/GPRS/EDGE, but uses 2100 MHz and 1700 MHz for UMTS/HSPA/AWS (their 3G / 4G network).
If you want to know what phones will work where, compare the frequencies they receive with those of the carrier you want to use.
In the case of the Radar, it uses the following frequencies
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850 MHz; 900 MHz; 1800 MHz; 1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA: 1700 MHz; 2100 MHz
So, for GSM phone calls and data you have a match with AT&T (and, of course with T-Mobile). 3G / 4G is a different story. The Radar has the T-Mobile 3G/4g bands, but not the bands for high-speed data on AT&T.
So, if you are happy just making phone calls and using EDGE data, then you can use the phone on AT&T. If you want 3G /4G as well you have to stick with T-Mobile.

I finally was able to get the h2O SIM card (AT&T service) and surprisingly it picks up 3G! I definitely notice the difference from when it goes from 2G up to the 3G speeds

Interesting! I took my specs from the T-Mobile page which omits the UMTS 850/1900 band. Thanks for the correction.

The box clearly states GSM 850/900/1900/2100 AND HSPA/UMTS: 1700/1900/2100
AWS 1700 = T-Mobile, Wind, Mobilicity
UMTS 1900 = AT&T (although they use 850 extensively too), Rogers, Telus, etc
UMTS 2100 = Asia/Europe
My Radar picks up AT&T 3G. Not sure if UMTS 1900 band will be omnipresent on AT&T as a lot have been extended with HSPA 850 as well.
So, whereever you find UMTS 1900, you'll definitely catch AT&T 3G

3G/4G on US T-Mobile using ST18a or ST18i

I would love to be able to use this amazing phone in on T-Mobile in the US without crippled data speeds as well as seamlessly on voice. Anybody here have experience with this new phone on this network?
ST18a is supposed to be for AT&T, but I speculate that ST18i might be better for T-Mobile US due to 900/2100MHz. 1700MHz is missing though. I also don't know how accurate this is:

Just today a T-Mobile Tier2 told me all I needed was 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz for 3G, and 1700 and 2100 for 4G.... so I am left very confused.
Note even access to 3G via roaming on this phone would be acceptable.
just to relieve you from misunderstanding, the ray is not 4G, and the bandwidth 2100 is 3G, and is used mostly in europe and asia pacific, which ever version you get, the umts is available in 5 bandwidth and are all 3G

i have the hong kong version, which is unbranded and using it in hong kong.
i'm liking it very well, just the right size to hold, not a android phone on the market to match it in quality, specs and size wise.
Xperia ray DOES NOT support 3G from Tmobile.
I own the device and I learned it the hard way.
Although ray supports 2100 MHz, the only device that can access Tmobile 3G is the one with BOTH 1700/2100 MHz. It is because Tmobile split both frequencies: one for download and the other for upload.
While for other carriers your phone will work in 3G if it supports either one of the frequencies, however, Tmobile is different.
Having said that, almost ALL of the unlocked phones in the market won't be capable of accessing Tmobile 3G.
If you wish to access 3G, the only carrier that will work is AT&T.

T-Mobile HTC One on ATT

According to the chart below, if I use a T-Mobile HTC One on AT&T, I would be able to use all of AT&T's HSPA+ network but will only be able to use their 700 MHz band for LTE? Am I reading it right or do I have it wrong?
I found this chart at android central (can't link because I'm blocked as a new user)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but only if you're in a refarmed 1900mhz frequency area. You can find out if you are here: http://airportal.de/
I've been investigating this. FCC documentation suggests that the HTC One for T-Mobile is certified for LTE Band 17 (AT&T).
I've unlocked the handset, but I'm only able to access AT&T's HSPA+ network.
Out of the box, the HTC One for T-Mobile doesn't support AT&T LTE.
If there is latent support, I reckon that you'd need to flash AT&T's radio to the device.

the tmobile ONE supports tmobile/att hspa and lte for both carriers. The att ONE supports lte for both but only att hspa and only tmobils 1900 hspa.

If purchased through Tmo how can I get the SIM for ATT? Can I toggle between the two? How can I utilize this awesome find to get the best out of each network. You all are smart. Thanks!

My friend has the T-mobile One and I have the AT&T One. He tried putting his T-mobile SIM in my phone, but it would not work (my AT&T One has to be unlocked, which I believe can be done if you buy an unlock code). I couldn't say if my SIM would work since my SIM is not actually AT&T's, it is a Straight Talk SIM that is compatible with AT&T's network. I imagine you could also unlock the T-mobile variant to work with AT&T's networks, but I'm not sure if it'd be able to work on the 4G network.

[Q] 4G with LTE in Singapore

I bought this lovely phone to be able to enjoy quad core for one and LTE data access. It seems that when I try to connect to the 4G LTE on Starhub (in Singapore), I only get 4G, not the LTE speeds.
Please correct me if I am wrong, that the e970 has 1700 and 2100 band for the LTE, while Singapore only has 1800 and 2600 bands available.
Is there any possibility of enabling 1800 and 2600 bands?
The local variant is the E975, can I flash the stock e975 firmware to the e970 without adverse effects?

My quick search shows Singapore uses 2100 for 3g, so the phone will support it. However, you cannot add or enable new frequencies. The hardware does not support them unfortunately. Your local LTE is not compatible with the E970

You can use 3G/HSPA+, I was there last week and I was getting 5-6 Mbps using SingTel prepaid.
EDIT- No LTE, sadly. But 3G was enough for anything I'd do on my phone.

yes the HSPAP works quite well. Im on the StarHub network, I also get a decent data rate. But LTE is LTE, it would have been nice to be able to coax the E970 somehow into those bands.

It seems like the Samsung Galaxy Alpha has all the necessary bands to be used with AT&T in the US. But does anyone know for sure? If Samsung takes too long to release this in America can I buy the UK version and use it in the US?

Yes. If it was me to make the decision, I'd want my phone with an unlocked bootloader, HSPA+ is good enough speed for me.
Though, practically, I've never tested LTE in my life, until recently we didn't have any 4G networks.

I bought an unlocked international/Euro Galaxy Alpha SM-G850F at the London Samsung store... Installed my USA ATT SIM and have no prob w. calls or H or H+ data but can NOT get LTE band in the USA on either ATT or TMO even though the device seems to have the right bands for ATT or TMO LTE. On advice from an ATT Wireless store manager, I updated my APN settings to match ATT setup but still did not get LTE. FYI my H+ is quite fast for most purposes but I want LTE. Hope that answers your question.... Mine is how can I get LTE???

Are you sure the European version has correct U.S. LTE bands? I was under the impression that it does not....

I am trying to solve this also.
I think that the Euro Version with the Exynos does not have the proper LTE Bands for North America LTE.
But the Qualcomm version does, though not sure about
TMobile.
I am looking at this from Canada GSM for $ 549. Factory Unlocked with following Bands:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G & LTE 2100, 1900, 1800, 1700, 2600, 700, 850
Obviously for AT&T you just buy theirs.
I have read that the EXYNOS versions do not function in North America on LTE.
With all phones it seems that you must be very very
Specific about Model Numbers including Suffixes etc.
Especially SAMSUNG loves to make 24 versions of ALPHA, 50 versions of S4 etc.

For example are there TWO DIFFERENT 1700 bands, one for4G LTE and one for 3G , HSPA + or are they the SAME BAND with dual usage ?
In example ABOVE the Alpha Factory Unlocked Canada GSM @$ 549.
IF used for TMobile the LTE Bands look fine, but the 3G
1700 Band is not there. Will 3G merely use the 1700 LTE

I have a new unlocked S9+ China (SM-G9650/DS, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845), and I'm trying to figure out if it is fully supported by T-Mobile in the US. I've done some Googling on this, but I'm not sure I understand the results. The supported band specs for the phone, and the T-Mobile frequencies used, are below. Can someone confirm or comment whether the phone is fully supported, or if not what's missing? Thx, Gus

It will work on T-Mobile frequencies but you won't get Wifi Calling or voLTE. The stock CSC is TGY - Hong Kong, T-Mobile is TMB. I haven't found any way to change the CSC even with custom ROM, but assuming one became available you would trip Knox and lose Samsung Pay, Samsung Health, Secure Folder, OTA Updates and Factory Warranty. Some members have posted in regards to changing the CSC Code in the link below but I'm not certain it's working out. Good luck!

baring any unforeseen hidden stuff, you should be good to go for Tmobile...Minus the new Band 71 on the 600mhz spectrum. Honestly, unless you live in the area that will get this deployment, this shouldn't be of concern. As long as you can use Band 2/4/12, you will be ok with Tmobile.
I almost went with this route as well since I wanted to get a Snapdragon version with larger storage size. But I chickened out because I've been reading people having bad signals/not having full LTE speeds with their imported S9+ on TMOUS.

I used CT Excel Americas (T-mobile mvno) and it worked on CHC firmware. But I forgot to test volte etc.
