lol...I was insatlling ROMS something went wrong now am stuck on bootloop. thanks iRobby i will try that!

What a drag. I am really hoping to see an FXZ soon. Honestly it is the lack of FXZ that has me seriously considering the GN.
Personally I require a back out plan...if none exists honestly I don't want the phone. Mostly because the other thing I require is root. I know I can root the Razr as I already have....but I am seriously timid due to lack of FXZ.

This is why over Christmas I bought a Nexus, pretty much screw it up as bad as you want and theres always a way back. That and its been out for 1/2 the time and has 1000% more development on it already. I gave my wife my RAZR, her first smart phone.

Bro, use the one-click and put Safestrap on. Immediately make a backup. You'll be fine. It's a safety net. Not the desired one of course, but it'll save your tushy.

[Q] why ROOT PHOTON????

i just recently bought the photon and im loving it, and i keep trying to find a good convincing review on why i should root my phone but cant seem to find anything, so i thought i ask why should i root this phone and what are the benefits of rooting it??? and is there a way to restore it to stock just in case anything happens???? sorry for the noob questions, im just starting out in android so its all new to me, ive been with BB for 7 years. thanks in advance.
I rooted mine for wireless tether for free. You can always unroot the device. I am wanting to see if I can put touch sense 3.0 on it. You can also remove any apps that come preinstalled on the device. It's really a personal question, no right answer.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
Rooting will let you use various apps that require root, like titanium back up, root explorer and wifi tether. If you would want to go back to stock you would just flash the latest update.sbf and you would be stock and unrooted.
Unlocking you're boot loader is a different story. doing that would allow you to flash the custom recovery and flash a rom and custom kernel. There are threads in the Dev section if you are interested in rooting and unlocking.

Titanium backup (restoring apps from my EVO 3D), ad free android, cache cleaner, deleting bloat, dsp manager, set cpu are all reasons to root.

Because we WANT TO! Its that simple bro. Cmon, why would you ask this? Root gives us admin rights to our phone, most of us have control issues, so this way we don't have control issues with our phone! Lol Get some!

I rooted in order to get the Swype beta on there, much better then the one it comes with, need root to fully delete the older one.
It really is a preference thang... I decided not to root mine, cause it works so well outta the box. I've rooted (and bricked & fixed) every other device i've owned, though. Just can't find a concrete reason to root this bia. Besides, most ROMS out there don't work 100% (there's always something being worked on). Just my 2c...

have tmobile preinstalled apps uninstalled

so was at bestbuy today and the manager had an amaze.asked if he had rooted it or no and he said no. what surprised me is that he said he was able to get rid of tmobile preinstalled apps just by calling tmobile guys and they simply remove them...anybody tried?

He was probably blowing smoke up your ass. T-Mobile doesn't customize ROMs on a per-person basis. And there is now way to otherwise remove apps without root.
Hah what a lie
yeah thats what i thought, sounded too good to be true
Haha, another example of Best Buys tomfoolery.

I work at a Walmart "front-of-store" Wireless, I've rooted a Captivate, Droid X, G2, Vibrant, Sensation, Inspire, Infuse, Atrix, and probably others that I've forgetting, It's worth mentioning that most people I work with don't know what I've done with those phones or how to do it. I'm guessing that's the case with these best buy people.

Did I miss how to do this somewhere? How?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G
You didnt miss anything... the ONLY way to remove Tmo bloat is by using the HTCDEV.com bootloader unlock and unlocking your bootloader. Then you must permaroot your phone. Only then will you have adequate permissions to allow you to remove the bloatware from your phone. There is NO OTHER WAY AROUND IT currently.
Thanks, that's what I thought.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G
I, being a t-mobile employee must tell you that the manager at best buy is bluffing. Just like users above have posted, you must root the device first prior to even having permission to remove the bloatware.

[CDMA][VZW] Razr to good development home

Hi everybody!
I just got my hands on a RAZR MAXX LE (The red one) and I no longer have use for my OG RAZR. Instead of selling it on eBay or craigslist I want to give it to a developer (FREE!). Developers do all the work and hacks for our phones and I feel they get little or no appreciation so I want to offer my CDMA VZW RAZR (Blue) to a developer.
How should I go about this? I want to give it to one of our main developers like Matt.
Send it to a developer who is working on a bootloader bypass, they tend to brick phones more often. I think hashcode has been working on bypassing the droid 3 bootloader with some success, if he had a back up razr he might be willing to take a chance on working on it. Kholk has bypassed the boot loader with some limitations on hw for gsm, he maybe able to get the cdma bypass working if he had one. Just some thoughts.

Getting tired of my XT909 lately.
Condition : Broken screen/sound/etc is not a problem as long as USB is working.
I only need it for adb/fastboot session.

[Q] How many of you DX2 users are jumping ship to the iPhone 5?

I am.
Don't get me wrong, I've had a good experience on Android and am going to miss a couple of things (customization, Transdroid, Swiftkey).
Anyone else jumping ship to the iPhone 5?
Try to not make this a hate thread. I am generally curious to see if anyone else is jumping ship or if you're staying with Android and a newer phone.
Its hard not to hate but to each their own. After discovering Android, there is no substitute or replacement.
I've seen similar threads started in other areas of XDA and the OP gets taken to the cleaners. You won't have to worry about that here. That is, as long as upteen different threads don't start up lol
The choice is obvious
I shiver at the thought. Out of curiosity, Why do you want to switch?

This thread makes my insides hurt from sadness.
Not to mention, every time an android user switches to an iPhone, God kills a kitten.
Please reconsider, for the kittens.
Sorry for the double post, but I had to add this in and couldn't do it from an edit despite my best efforts.

why do you wanna make the switch? honestly if the dx2 is your first android phone, try a cheaper replacement (ie fascinate, dx, og droid) those phones arent anywhere as difficult as the x2. plus the og droid & fascinate have unlocked bootloaders and both are running jellybean so why leave the openness and fully user customization of android to the locked down, 'we know whats best for you' apple attitude?
I'm making a switch when the iPhone 5 comes out. My buddy is foolish and is selling me his g nexus for 100 so he can get an iPhone 5.
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
I don't see why anyone would go apple. No customization ,no external memory ,basically bland apple and worst of all you only get what daddy apple says you can have.

Wish you luck. Everyone is different. It's Important everyone is comfortable with what they have.
Thread Closed, please go and use one of the other threads in OT to discuss all iphone 5 (Kitten Killer Phone) topics.

Verizon Galaxy S4 bootloader bypassed with custom recovery ***Updated 5/23***

Update (5/23): Just to clarify, this doesn't unlock the bootloader as previously thought, it just helps ROM/kernel/recovery developers bypass it: Link Here

check out foldermount. might help with the pain of the smaller storage size. basically moves data to the external SD, but leaves a symlink on the internal so that apps, etc that point to that directory can still access the files. obviously not the same as a larger internal storage, but at least it helps.
I didn't figure it was going to take long for the phone to be rooted, and custom recoveries/roms installed. It didn't take long for the GS3 to fall to the modding community.
Once you root, NO MORE OTAS!!!!
People will read that, and still do it anyway, and well, that's on them.
This is the best news I've heard related to Verizon in a long time.

oh man, i couldnt take it anymore. ingress should me how really terrible the service was.
got mine last night, ready for root... :good:
I'm going to try out stock for at least a few days. I'm coming from a DINC2 running CM7 in preparation for this. It's going to be a nice boost in every regard, I think.
The lure of root is tough to beat, though. I've only ever had HTC smartphones, so I've been used to waiting a month or two for root. This might be tough.
this is awesome. super excited!

Unfortunately so, it looks like Verizon had time to upgrade to the new secure kernel (same as Sprint's latest OTA). And now we all know why they wanted to take that extra month.
