[Confirm] 8.8.3.29 Fixes Touch Screen Deadzone - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello,
Just got mine and I am mostly happy with it but have found an issue with the touch screen having a dead zone.
Mine was shipped with 8.8.3.27 which was not rootable so I started playing with my device and found a huge dead zone area that effected all applications. This has made me want to return my device but I said .29 has been knocking let me see if this fixes it and before I post on XDA.
After updating to 8.8.3.29 the dead zone went away and the only thing it can be was the update or the reboot. I should have rebooted first but I applied the update.
The dead zone when held horizontal was at the top right if holding in portrait mode the dead zone is still there and was above the clock on right hand side about 25% of the way up.
The app I used was "Multitouch Visual Tester" and would like someone to confirm as not only did this seem to fix my dead zone but the touch screen is a bit more responsive now.

8.8.3.28? I haven't seen that build til now. Where did you buy that TP from?

Mine is on the .27 and doesn't show an update to .29. Is there a way to manually update it?

I will try that app out and let you know if it makes touch more responsive for me.

mine is on ,29 after I updated the first day I got it on 12/22. you can manually "Check" to see if there's an update. go to settings, then about tablet, then system updates. once in there, press tab that says check for update. I check on a daily basis to see if anything new pops up. don't want to wait till prime finally decides to tell me there's one..lol

I'm having similar problem, but I'm already on .29. Trying that app right now.

Where can I find this app? Not in the Market and a Google search turned up nothing.
Thanks in advance.

I understand that, i have been trying to do that, but it see's no update. So I am stuck on the .27, O'well. I am going to try and return it here in a week or so and get another one and hope I get a later batch then when this one was made.

You can manually update to .29 go to Asus support down the newest update and unzip it then drag the files to your SD card stick it in the prime and a notification should pop up to update.
Its pretty simple if the card don't read reboot the prime and it should work.

that app just tests the screen to make sure it registers mulitouch. it fixes nothing..lol that guy was say updating to. 29 fixed his deadzone. not the app. he just used app to confirm it was fixed. I got the mulitouch and prime registers 10 point mulitouch everywhere on screen.

that's very strange you on an older version and your prime hasn't prompted you to update through OTA. almost everyone I seen here got prompted almost immediately.
Hol up, lol you might have the version that can be rooted with RazorClaw. give it a shot n see what happens. worse case scenario is that it tells you. an error that it can't be rooted with razorclaw.

Correct i am looking for someone still on .27 to see if the deadzone exist.
I found it just with one finger dragging it back and forth, like i said it rather went away with update or the reboot.

Man, glad you got to it, I was reading the thread wondering why two people thought the app fixed, it. he never said that. Needless to say I am gonna test the crap out of mine when I get it after all the BS I had to deal with.. Still 4 days to go... sigh.

I see. I missunderstood the OP.

Thank you, it must have been a fluke. If anyone else gets dead zones chime in.

I've been having this issue myself. I have updated to .29 and still no help. After using Multitouch test, I noticed a few dead areas in the top left area below the Asus logo. Tried eveything I could to fix the issue. I noticed after browsing the web for a while, the whole area below the Asus logo (about 2 inches by 2 inches) would become unresponsive. If I hit the power button and unlocked the unit, that dead area would go away. I've already contacted Asus for an RMA and will ship it tomorrow. I would have taken it back to Gamestop but it doesn't look like I could get my hands on another one for a while anyways.

Fix stuck pixels

I got a new transformer prime a couple of days ago, and I'm happy to report it has no wifi, GPS or Bluetooth issues
but it has a 3 stuck pixels in a 1.5cm area, which is covered under warranty, atleast as I understand
My thing is I wanna keep it. Is there anyway to 'wake them up' like you could with iOS products thru a cydia app
Thanks in advance
EDIT REASON: oops! I originally called the pixels dead. Thanks for getting me to notice that
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
Nope, you can't raise pixels from the dead.
If you don't believe me, you can try a pixel fixing app (like this one: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.htc.chris.blackspotdetect&feature=search_result) and see if it helps you, however if your pixel is actually dead (and not just stuck) there likely isn't any software that will fix it.

Oops, i meant stuck, not dead. Thanks for making me notice my error.
I tried your application but the stuck pixels are in the lower bar and your application won't rotate. I found another app that does.
Should I put the time in to try to fix them, or are these apps useless?

Some people say these apps work ad other say it doesn't fix their issue.
If you have an hour or two to spend trying to fix it, I would say it couldn't hurt anything to try. If it doesn't work then you should still be able to go the RMA route.

hey, just wondering what happened? did you RMA?
I bought a used transformer, and it has light bleed, and at least 8 stuck pixels [mostly only viewable on Black] scattered around, some smaller, some bigger.
can I RMA it? I'm not even sure about the warranty but I assume it's been less than a year from the original purchase..

Green dead camera out of the blue?

Just out of no where, I can't use my camera anymore. I even did a factory reset and it still doesn't work. I did the firmware upgrade and it was fine so I am not sure what could have caused this since doing a search, it seemed most was due to the firmware update. I was just taking pictures Wednesday of last week and yesterday, it just puked.
It takes forever to get it working and when it does, it looks like the homescreen all blurry. self facing camera works though. If I do (or can before it pukes), it just takes a green picture. ???
anyone else have their camera not working out of the blue?
I may have to send this unit back to ASUS to have them look it over as I don't think it's a software issue anymore.
Suggestions? Thanks!

There was another thread with a few posters who had a similar/the same issue. Pretty sure their camera wasn't even showing a good preview though, they were getting green and static even on the screen of the Camera app itself.
Too lazy to find it, but so you know there are some out there.

That happened to mine. It was working yesterday just fine and all of a sudden this morning, the rear camera only show corrupted green lines. Have you got a fix for that or you have RMAed it?

Mine suddenly stopped last week. I sent it in to the Texas Asus service center for repair.
One thing I can say with mine that specified hw issue is the if you pinched the top of the screen, gently, by the camera it would come back into focus.....but the minute it was closed and reopened, or handled in any way it would go back to a green screen.

Oh wow, how strange. Of course I don't have the issue, but good to know for the future that it is h/w. Suppose there's just a faulty connection somewhere? I'm going to disassemble later and see if it isn't something I could notice.

Thank you for this info. I pinched mine at about 1 thumb space left of the camera, and yes, it did come back, but it does not stay long.

Yeah, its unfortunate. It was an accident that I found that as I was just taking out of the case to make sure nothing was obstructing or maybe the lense came loose and when I grabbed the ATP to pull it out the camera became clearer and so thats when I started gently sqeezing around that area, lol
I was like WTF!!????

You should be able to get something because that's completely hardware related no way a ROM can cause that! I would get your case escalated... Best way to do that would be PM Gary key be sure to include your name contact info ect... Along with serial number and your email address...
Make sure the subject is descriptive like...
New hardware defect: green camera.....
Wait a day and if that doesn't work I can give you an email of my contact...
Again another flaw on asus's part that's why I returned it while I had a chance! It's there crappy quality control! I am telling you they need to inspect those things paying a Chinese worker the whole 10 minutes it would take to examine it is nothing compared to fixing it after the fact!

I was in the same situation, unlocked, rooted and running CWM.
I contacted Gary, he hooked me up with Tech support manager in Texas and they did the repair.
The only issue was when I got it back I was getting the CWM loop of death
It was soft bricked for sure, I couldnt get it to do anything.
I followed the guide by diamondback in the Dev section and was able to get it fixed, but I thought it was a lost cause there for a while.
I am guessing they made the physical repair, tested it and then did a factory restore which I believe will put it into that state so if you do send it off, make sure you have the ROM backed up and that you have adb running on a laptop so you can recover.
Camera seems to be fine now, hopefully I will not have to go through that again or for any other repairs.
good luck!

How long did the RMA take you? I keep on seeing threads about how it's almost been a month with no tablet in sight. I need my tab for school so I'm thinking of RMAing mine after my term, but that's still 1 month away.
Any suggestions guys?

Well Gary and a tech got back to me but I think when I did the pinch to see if its a hw issue, I think I screwed up my GPS connection since now it doesn't work anymore. But my Roma has stalled and I wonder if I should wait until the end of the month to see what this "new hardware" is. I mean, I can push the RMA but I did say my GPS was working until I tested the pinch camera "test" so I can wait. Pics would be great since my parents are in Taiwan right now and would like to send them some pics of their "grandson" (my dog) as he's growing (got him at 6 weeks and it's now 4 months).
Mine is a bit weird tho. When i turn off my screen from the camera app, i can hear my camera focusing. Sometimes after it would just reboot itself. Sometimes it would just crash the tablet.
Also, i tried the pinch method. It didnt work for mine.
I got the green screen last week. Called tech support and was told to send back for repair. It arrived yesterday in Texas and has been received and now in the pipeline.
So far, I have no complaints. Quite happy with the responsiveness of Asus.
I've always understood that, with electronics, if it's gonna fail, it usually happens within the first 90 days. If the item works past the initial 90 days, then should be good for life.
Well, my TP is less than 90 days old.

10 business day exactly.
I shipped it 3/12....got it back on 3/26
i had the same issue with my TFP
i gave it a good smack near the rear camera and now it works im pretty sure the problem is with the connection.
i also noticed that my TFP screen is barely pop out a bit. so my guess is that is there is some kind of "plug wires" that are not exactly well fit.
my guess is my fix"the smack" would be just a temporary fix that may or may not work with you and the problem will come back later
Mine died today, I can push on it for a second and when I let go it goes to the green screen. Have a bunch of dead pixels in one area as well, and my dock isn't sturdy anymore. Just about to RMA pretty soon here.
RMA it. Doesn't take too long for them to get ur tab back to you now

[Q] Things to inspect with a newly purchased Prime.

Hey everyone,
I've been wanting a Prime ever since I heard about it last December, and I've decided to purchase it within the upcoming weeks. However, while reading around about all the problems I am now a bit hesitant -- I don't want to be stuck with a defective Prime after the return period is up.
So I was wondering what I should be looking as far as problems with my Prime goes?
A list of problems would be appreciated.

Take a very close look at screen. Lightbleed around the edge, dead pixels and LCD mura which are bright spots, check for this on a white background. Other than that check WiFi is OK for u and all adaptors, SD USB etc all work OK.

Thanks guys, but I've been thinking about it too much and now I'm considering waiting off til Juneish to get the TF700 instead. This way I wouldn't have to worry about many of the problems that come along with the Prime.
Any thoughts on this? I really want the Prime, but the potential for problems makes me look to its successor.

GPS Kit Issues

This might be a duplicate thread, i looked but didnt see one... anyways....
got my dongle today. nothing but problems. i had 5 random reboots in the little over 30 minutes that i had the dongle attached. There was also a HUGE reduction in overall performance. The weirdest thing is that it kept getting stuck in landscape mode after the dongle was removed. I had to reboot to get it back to portrait. Also drained over 20% of my battery in those 30 minutes.
the GPS did work extremely well though.
Has anyone had any of these issues?
You running latest firmware .21?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
he must be or else the dongle wouldnt work. i would highly doubt the dongle is causing reboots. cant really see any reason why it would. i havent had any of those issues. device performs just fine with dongle on or off.
I'd say op best bet is to reboot. cut power off n leave off for a few seconds then cut power back on and see how things act. if things still acting funny, try a soft reset. you do this by putting a paperclip in the little hole underneath the memory card slot. you will see the prime reset and reboot. then try dongle and everything else then.
Duh, my bad I totally forgot about that

Glad it seems to work so far. Alot of times, a reset will clear up any software mishaps that happen. Same as with installing some apps. They usually tell you that if you experience issues, try rebooting/reseting to clear issue up. The device restarts with the program or whatever more settled in.

Kinda/sorta..lol. soft reset is a more drastic reboot, IMO. its usually used if the prime freezes up or starts acting up alot. You even have another kind that I believe is called a cold boot or a hard boot or something. That involves holding power button and volume down at the same time(while power is still on, I believe) until prime reboots. Then keep hold it until you see some lettering across the top of the screen. Then let go. Then it'll say device will reset/reboot if nothing is pressed within a few seconds.
I always do it in order if the previous one didn't work or fix problem. A regular reboot(power off then on again), then a soft reset, then a cold/hard boot.

Then you submitted it 10 days ahead of its actual release, you should really only be counting from the 16th. That means it's only been 7 business days since the dongle has been shipping. That's not much.
Plus it seems to me that everyone who registered early seems to be in the same boat. I ordered 4/17 and am also in the same boat; something makes me think they're going to try and deny it or something since I listed the date I actually received the Prime in the mail as the purchase date. Not really, lol, I'm sure I'll get it, just wish it would hurry up >.>
On the 30th (1st for me) is when everyone should start making a real fuss. 10 business days is plenty of time to get something like this shipped out.

They should not have announced etc untill they was in position to deliver. Seems 99% of people who have got them are American, haven't heard one person from UK say they have shipped status yet alone received it
Got my kit today. I'm just posting to let everyone know that I won't be using it. One, because I'm too classy to have a gigantic police-wannabe console in my car as a GPS unit. And two, because I'm not hippy enough to aimlessly explore woods and essentially emulate homeless people in a park.

The main problem is your location. When the boat leaves China, first it has to navigate past the troubled waters by the Koreas and Indonisia. Once clear of that, it will wait for a Naval ship to be near it in case of Pirates by Somalia. Once clear of that, it has to time it's trip around the African Cape with good weather....Once past that...again wait for Naval protection as it goes up the Abrian sea, thru the Suez Canal. After it clears the Suez, it again has to be careful of the flareups in the Mid-East. After it clears all that, it's clear sailing (or steaming) to England. However, once it gets there, it is again delayed because it has to wait for a slot to clear in port since all the slots are taken up with ships unloading parts and equipment for the Olympics. But first, Perishable food comes first.
Hope this helps explain the difficulty you have.

I've also had a series of reboots with the dongle, often while the tablet idle and the screen off. A hard reboot didn't help. I'll try a soft reset with the dongle on.

What a Patronising post
I am 45 years old not 5
Like I said They should not have announced etc untill they was in position to deliver
A soft reset didn't solve the reboot issue for me. Whenever the dongle is in, my tablet is liable to reboot, whether it's actively working or idle. Reboots appear to be independent of power mode and whether satellite location service is on or off.
I noticed early on that it also wasn't autorotating, but I think only before the first reboot. I didn't notice any extraordinary battery drain, although I didn't have it on for all that long.

I just got my dongle today but sadly it doesn't seem to be hardly doing anything. It took around a minute or two before it got a lock and it still only got a few of em.
Its not rebooting or anything from what I've seen. Gonna reboot it again and let it settle to see if it does better.

Screenflickering RMA?

Hi
I've had my Transformer Prime a few month and lately I've been experience some screenflickering.
I was in contact with ASUS support here in Sweden and ive got a RMA for it.
So, I was wonder does anyone else have the same flickering? Have you taking for RMA? How long did it take and did they fix it?
To clarify what I mean with flickering I've med a recording of it, and this time it was a small one, usually they take up half of the screen.

I had that happen once after using the youtube app.
I rebooted and it fixed it.
I did a factory reset and have never had the problem again.

Yeah, a reboot usually fix it, and I've made several resets, but they still keep occurring.
What I'm most worried about is that the Asus technician guy will say "There is nothing wrong with it" and charge me for the whole process :S
I used to have this problem, but after the latest update it no longer happen

Yes, known issue. I've only experienced it something like 2 times after some extraordinarily heavy usage though. Haven't seen it at all on update .21, and have only had the entire screen flicker white once for Dark Meadow.
Wait out the next update which should be here very soon, see if it doesn't help. If not, I don't know what to say other than try another product/brand because you just never know what'll happen with this one.

So it is a software problem?

Definitely a software problem. .21 was released mostly to address it I think, but the next update (.24?) is also including a new kernel supposedly, so we can hope to see some much larger differences than usual.

Just in case I did send in my Transformer Prime.
However, the curios thing is; according to UPS it was returned on delivery ? :S
So either they just returned it or they had a new one ready?
