why are so many games marked incompatible - Sony Tablet S

Is it just me or does it seem like half the fricking games in the market marked incompatible?!??!
Even stuff like bejwelled....
a lot of the time I can get the app via my phone, backup the apk and manually sideload it and it works fine. But this is not a permanent fix....
Is this sony being lazy, google being lazy, app devs being lazy, or something else?
Without root I'm guessing there's no fix?!??!
The worst bit is that this 'block' isn't consistent: an app may be blocked in the web market, and doesn't come up when searching from tablet, but say I hit an ad in the marketplace or tegrazone and BAM it lets me install. WHAT THE ?!?!?!?!

Sometimes I think that Sony has something to do with that.. but I hope thats only my conspiracy mind playing tricks on me..

I have a sneaking feeling its app devs who have to mark their apps as compatible or incompatible and since this tablet doesn't have a big presence, it falls through their cracks...
I've seen several games where say the Lite version is marked available but the full version IS NOT (i.e. Siegecraft THD). Of course the full version runs fine if you sideload it... ROFL

Yes it's definitely the app publishers who declare compatibility and I just don't think the tablet s has made a big enough splash. It sucks cause like you said you can sideload the apps. I'm sure once we get ICS things will change...

I gotta say i'm pretty steamed. I specifically got a tegra 2 device to maximize gaming compatibility, now the only "hardcore" games showing are shadowgun, GTA3 and Asphalt 6. No nova, mc2, mc3 etc etc. Not very happy at this point.
The weird part is, a simple realestate app won't show in the market on it :\.
I wish there was some way to just force the market to show all apps, like in cyanogen mod. Just without the need for root since we don't have that yet

It has a LOT to do with fragmentation in Android, with all the different versions on all the different devices, a developer has to test and be 100% sure before it marks its app as "compatible." Try contacting the developer if you want help, unfortunately it's nothing SONY has done.

You dont understand problem.
Some time ago we could buy apps:for example, Dead Space.
But suddenly Android Market said:you couldnt buy this app because it incompatible with your Sony Tablet S.

Can somebody tell me if bang bang racing shows up in the market?

Update, factory reserve fixed it, most apps are good to go. Dread , I would give that a shot.
Don't get mad at Sony for gameloft games being incompatible, that's game loft's fault

Hey wintermute000 can you check if bang bang racing shows up in the market? It there any way to pay for an app or game and then sideload it. The tablet is discounted at tiger direct. I love that game lol.

I do understand problem. What's happening is that Gameloft is updating their game and changing which versions/iterations of Android their game is compatible with, and with the thousand of different variations of Android coming out every day, they have either changed or our software version has changed and they're no longer compatible. As many have said, ICS will fix A LOT of that. You can try a master reset, but other than that just wait for ICS or sideload it from a dropped apk.

Thank you for answer)
I have one question:why EA games(Real Racing 2 and Dead Space) doesnt support sony tablet s?

It's not that they don't support the tablet s, it's just that they're not specifically listed as compatible with either the tablet s or the version of android we're running (maybe sony's update to 3.1.2 or whatever it was) isn't listed under their market description so it won't allow you to install it from the market. There are ways around that but you won't be able to get updates or support through the market. I'm waiting for ICS (hopefully Feb) and most, if not all, of these problems should be resolved!

Gameloft games question

Hello I have an xperia play and bought some games on Gameloft. So just wandering if it's possible to transfer the same games to use on my galaxy, or I have to purchase the games again.? Also its not very clear which games actually work on the galaxy, the game hub only has a phew games that cannot be it surely.?
I'm probably not qualified to answer this, but I'll give it a stab - assuming you brought them through the Android Market, they're associated with your Google account and you can install them on other devices without having to re-purchase them.
Simply add your Google account to the new phone, go to the "My Apps" page and you find them in your list of Purchased but not installed software.

Gameloft are greedy. The games are imei locked and device specific. So you need to wait for sgs2 compatible games, and repurchase them afaik
I don't approve of their business model, so I simply don't buy or use Gameloft games. They could put games on market, but they would only sell it once per person...
I think it's that greed that forces piracy to prosper honestly I don't support piracy but imagine i already paid over 25 £ to Gameloft and they now want me to pay another 25£ imagine. No wander why the iphone itunes model is much better and android is way to fragmented.

I wouldn't necessarily blame this on android fragmentation..
I'd point the finger more towards the greedy companies, like gameloft, for making their games in such a way that it encourages "fragmentation".
I mean half the arguments against Android are actually based on the companies that provide apps and software, not the android platform itself...
Just my two cents.
Back on topic:
But you gotta admit, gameloft games are pretty damn good.. if not a bit overpriced due to the incompatibility issues..

If you e-mail them they will usually just send you the correct version for your new phone, their customer service is usually pretty good, I've never had to buy the same game again for another device, at least not yet.

There are no versions available via the website and GT-i9100 is not listed yet, you can currently only get them via the Games Hub and some of them look like cut down versions of the games, blocky textures and poor draw distance.
Hi
I bought over 15 gameloft games for my Galaxy S1. I have got now S2 and NONE of those I bought work ( I always save original donwloaded .apk) I emailed gameloft saying as well I can't even access their site as I'm getting NOT RECOGNIZED warning so as soon as I got update I will post it here.

It uses a different GPU to the Galaxy S so it's not likely to work, they will have to release versions for the Galaxy S2, once they do they will probably send you the updated apks if you tell them you changed your phone.
It's a shame Samsung didn't choose to go with the latest PowerVR GPU as that would have made things allot easier, Mali 400MP in the Galaxy S2 does not support some texture compression formats some developers are using so that will also cause problems.
Of course if they just stuck to the OpenGL ES 2.0 specs to start with we wouldn't have this problem.
Hi and thanks a lot for explanation. It is real shame and I hope this amazing phone won't be suffering of too many uncompatible games as that would damaged it's great potential. It is fast like a wind and I can't wait for some polished custom roms like last Darky's 10.6 by which I was really impressed on my Galaxy 1

Playstation games for tablet s owners

Hey has anyone tried the Playstation games yet. The look pretty simple yet but there seems to be hope for the tab gaming future.
I might give it a go when I get home

I'll download syphon filter tonight and try playing it with my logitech remote. Should be pretty revolutionary for the tablet s!
I was a bit disappointed with the PlayStation store. It’s not a bad line up for the first day release, and I will say I am glad Sony is making sure the games are optimized to run on the tablet but I was hoping for the selection I have on my PS3 and even more so to have access to the games I had already bought (like FF7, FF8, Chrono Trigger). I really don't want to mess around with a PSX emulator on my tablet so I am hoping Sony steps up and does some large major releases in the future.
I did find it interesting all the games were branded as Sony Entertainment America Games and I have seen reports Sony is working with the developers to get the rights for other games, But my fingers are crossed for legend of Dragoon.
I cannot use it. When I open pstore it tells me I need to updsate account manager....but when I try to update account manager it says"Purchase cancelled. The item you are trying to purchase cannot be found"

Just gave my wife a sony tablet s for her birthday got some questions now....

Just gave my wife a birthday gift which is a sony tablet s.
Now she likes facebook she chats on there but mostly plays games, like bingo and such, and likes to play other games like those hidden treasure type games that bigfish.com has.
Anyone know how, where to install those hidden treasure type games on this tablet. Is there any tips to give for me to setup the tablet better or something like is there a better browser than the stock one or something anything else.
Also where is the playstation store app I dont think I saw it in the app menu?
Thanks
There are quite a few of the hidden object games on the Android market. Also, if you get the Onlive app and subscribe to their playpack, you get a bunch Bigfish games with that.

As Sony tablet S is the best table available, which one would you choose instead of it? Just curious.
To be honest I dont know, I havent looked around because I'm stuck with this one now, Like Ive said in different post I like some aspects of this tablet, but there is a lot I dont like.
When I buy new technoligy I like to completly happy with all aspects otherwise they just end up in a draw and I end up spending more money on something else.
Phones are a classic example, I must have run through at least 12 high end phones between an Ipaq and a Dell streak and there was always something to niggle about them, I have a Note now and Im over the moon with it, Wouldnt consider changing it, but know eventualy Ill have to because Samsung will stop supporting it, Planned obsolecence I believe its called.
So I wouldnt even hazard an opinion about other tabs, I love android so I would'nt go for an apple product, although its a close call, same with Windows so I simply dont know.

Asus transformer prime for example. Quad core. ?

The trick here is there is no such thing as the best Android tablet. There simply isn't.
What there is, is the best tablet for a specific purpose, of which there are many (for obvious reasons).
As for my opinions:
If you want to use your Tablet for business work mostly, then the Toshiba Thrive is probably the best bet.
A decent all-rounder with good support and hackability but rather uninspiring in most lights (particularly the TouchWiz UX UI which I find irritating), would be the Galaxy Tab 10.1
If you want a powerhouse, and play plenty of games, but don't care quite so much about battery or ruggedness, the Transformer Prime seems a good choice.
If you're looking for a more media-focussed tablet thats very portable with some very unique ergonomics and functionalities, the Sony is definitely the way to go.
For a cheaper all-rounder thats only going to be doing a little light gaming and apps, you can't go past the Acer Iconia series.
Extra-portable users would have to choose between the smaller Iconia or the Galaxy Tab 7.7 based on price.
And thats just the main ones. Like I was saying, you have to choose the tablet that matches your needs, wants and price range. In my case, the Tablet S has been possibly the best technology buy I've made and I don't regret it a bit, but thats because it matches what I need it to do.
Exactly, this devices are made to be used and not for liking all of their features

This. I personally just use my gingerbread running Droid charge to buy things that aren't compatible yet. Popular apps will get more compatibility as ICS penetration grows
Unfortunately, I have a couple other Android devices - says it's incompatible with all.
I have 3 android devices
prime-not suported
xperia active- not supported
xperia mini-supported
Now we have to wait for prime support
Supported and runs well on my Samsung Galaxy S2 which is on CM9. It seems ICS is supported fine so I wonder what the problem is.
Works well on my SGS2 running latest leaked build of ICS as well. Tried pulling the APK and installing it on my Prime, but I get a not compatible with device when I try to open it. So we just have to wait until Gameloft decides to support it.
Bought it via my Sensation.... cheers! Here's to a .49 cent investment into the future!
Oh come on Gameloft.. How hard can it be to make it available on the Prime. I've got the impression they dont want my money^^ Its as if they're telling me to use other methods than buying...

On the web android market, there is also a compatibility check.
Or do you mean something else?
I've downloaded quite a few apps that aren't supposed to be comparable with prime yet not had even the slightest glitch yet, shame i guess people gave already tried with this with no luck

Certain App Store games still not on Google Play

So I kinda have always noticed this since I switched from the Iphone to an android but I really noticed today that alot of big game companys like Taito,Capcom, Square Enix, etc. have been looming around on the Apple App Store for years now and yet they havent really made the leap over to the Android platform, it kinda pisses me off cause games I love like MegaMan X and Bust-A-Move (Im sure alot of you cant relate with those in particular but you get the point) and their company's have made good mobile versions for the App Store, and yet after years of them being on there they never seem to get ported to android. What really blows my mind about all of this is that these said companies actually sell SOME of their games on Google Play. Like i dont get that at all, for example Megaman 2 was released by Capcom on the Apple App Store 5 YEARS AGO and still hasn't shown up on android. Like why sell only a few of your good mobile games to Android users and give the Apple users the whole lot?? I get it that Apple came first as the world's first very popular smartphone and they had the first successful mobile application market, but its been 5 years, android is just as popular as Apple and their store deserves these classics. I say its time to expand your games to other platform users. Besides, dont you want more money???
Search for alternatives
Yeah, it's true that a lot of games are missing in the Play Store, but there is nothing you can do about it...
The best solution for you could be more waiting (yeah, it sucks!) or just playing an alternative!
For Megaman I think that you could play a GameBoy game of it (there are a lot!). Just download an emulator in the Play Store and get the ROM!
For the other games, there aren't a lot possibilities... You could maybe look if there is a PC-Version available!
Have a nice day

I mean I have improvised, for example, there's no bust a move for Google play, but I got a ps1 emulator and got roms of my favs bust a move 2,3, and 4 and I can play all those and they run very well. So yea it does suck, but since GP isn't locked down, I can use that to improvise. So yea, it is stupid to keep good games exclusive to the App Store when these company's can get more money and stop pointlessly alienating other mobile demographics, but yea I know there is always a silver lining.
