Just gave my wife a sony tablet s for her birthday got some questions now.... - Sony Tablet S

Just gave my wife a birthday gift which is a sony tablet s.
Now she likes facebook she chats on there but mostly plays games, like bingo and such, and likes to play other games like those hidden treasure type games that bigfish.com has.
Anyone know how, where to install those hidden treasure type games on this tablet. Is there any tips to give for me to setup the tablet better or something like is there a better browser than the stock one or something anything else.
Also where is the playstation store app I dont think I saw it in the app menu?
Thanks

There are quite a few of the hidden object games on the Android market. Also, if you get the Onlive app and subscribe to their playpack, you get a bunch Bigfish games with that.

Ok thanks...
Also Im not home to try it but does this sony do flash on website that have flash/video and such? If not what do I do to make it happen.
Other than android market place what other market places to download apps and games. I saw a thread here in the sony tablet s section couple days ago where people gave names to other sites/markets to download stuff but cant find it now.
Also I found this guide here in xda forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217774
That shows how to run machinarium flash game on the tablet but in the instructions it give a path to type in the browser address bar but I forgot I dont have a sd card yet on this sony tablet and I ended up putting the game folder in the root of the internal memory when I plug in the usb as mass storage device. What is the internal memory path or do I need a ds card to play this game? Thanks

I also plan to buy Sony Tablet S for my wife and I know Android have no problem to play flash on internet browser. But can this tablet play Facebook games like Cafe World or Cityville direct from its internet browser?
Thanks.

Yeah it can be played I tried it on my tablet s and it played all zynga games inclu fv cv mw etc to name a few

Wish I had a wife to give my Tablet S to, then I could go and buy a proper tablet

As Sony tablet S is the best table available, which one would you choose instead of it? Just curious.

To be honest I dont know, I havent looked around because I'm stuck with this one now, Like Ive said in different post I like some aspects of this tablet, but there is a lot I dont like.
When I buy new technoligy I like to completly happy with all aspects otherwise they just end up in a draw and I end up spending more money on something else.
Phones are a classic example, I must have run through at least 12 high end phones between an Ipaq and a Dell streak and there was always something to niggle about them, I have a Note now and Im over the moon with it, Wouldnt consider changing it, but know eventualy Ill have to because Samsung will stop supporting it, Planned obsolecence I believe its called.
So I wouldnt even hazard an opinion about other tabs, I love android so I would'nt go for an apple product, although its a close call, same with Windows so I simply dont know.

What makes you say that this tab is the best one?
I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just not sure you're right either!
Asus transformer prime for example. Quad core. ?

The trick here is there is no such thing as the best Android tablet. There simply isn't.
What there is, is the best tablet for a specific purpose, of which there are many (for obvious reasons).
As for my opinions:
If you want to use your Tablet for business work mostly, then the Toshiba Thrive is probably the best bet.
A decent all-rounder with good support and hackability but rather uninspiring in most lights (particularly the TouchWiz UX UI which I find irritating), would be the Galaxy Tab 10.1
If you want a powerhouse, and play plenty of games, but don't care quite so much about battery or ruggedness, the Transformer Prime seems a good choice.
If you're looking for a more media-focussed tablet thats very portable with some very unique ergonomics and functionalities, the Sony is definitely the way to go.
For a cheaper all-rounder thats only going to be doing a little light gaming and apps, you can't go past the Acer Iconia series.
Extra-portable users would have to choose between the smaller Iconia or the Galaxy Tab 7.7 based on price.
And thats just the main ones. Like I was saying, you have to choose the tablet that matches your needs, wants and price range. In my case, the Tablet S has been possibly the best technology buy I've made and I don't regret it a bit, but thats because it matches what I need it to do.

Exactly, this devices are made to be used and not for liking all of their features

I've got the Sony S, I Pad 2 and Galaxy Tab and still think the Sony is the best of the lot.

Is it good for a 9 year old boy?

Hello everyone,
Need your help folks.
I need a tablet for my 9 years old boy, and I am a newbie.....
I thought about either Asus Transformer or Galaxy 10'
- fast browser with flash, youtube, facebook
- skype with video
- avi, mp4 etc playback ( I dont want to convert files, I want to play them stright
after downloading)
- easy data transfer from my PC
- GPS navigation (copilot, igo etc) without using data
- some games working like : moshi monsters and android stuff (I ve got Galaxy 2)
Do I need a custom ROM for all above options?
Please share your thoughts, I ve got 2 weeks to make the decision.
Thank you for your help
Can I be your son?
What you ask is possible. And maybe look at what friends his age are using in general?
I'm just curious because I have a 5 year old, do his 9 year old friends also have a laptop or tablet?

My thoughts? especially if you are into video thingy (and you don't want to convert it), forget honeycomb tablets. Just buy Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 or HTC Flyer instead.. they run every and everything smooth and stable !
Is the tab just for him? Not trying to be rude, but I can't understand why a 9 year old needs a tab. Wants yes (mine does) but not need.
My oldest is 10 and he has a mid-range laptop. He gets some use for school, but mostly he uses it for playing games. I can control to an extent what he sees and does while surfing, and at the least keep close tabs on what he does online. I wouldn't think that's possible with a tab.
yeah, can't do something wrong for your son.
LOL I dont think GPS navigation, skype & facebook is for his son !
No. No 10" tablet has the right price/durability ratio for a 9-year-old kid.
Too expensive and too easy to break. Cheap netbook is the solution for kids - more durable, far cheaper.
It will be great for your 9 year old son... until he discovers "free porn"

- skype with video NO, I USE FRING. Works on Android and iOS.
- avi, mp4 etc playback ( I dont want to convert files, I want to play them stright

- easy data transfer from my PC Depends. Who's doing the transfer, you or him? It's easy to use File Manager HD and connect to a LAN share and then Copy/Paste to the Tab. That's how I get the mp4 files to the Tab. Easy for you, might be tougher for him.
- GPS navigation (copilot, igo etc) without using data YES. It's a very, very nice GPS device.
- some games working like : moshi monsters and android stuff (I ve got Galaxy 2) YES
Do I need a custom ROM for all above options? NO, mine is stock, unrooted.
Please share your thoughts, I ve got 2 weeks to make the decision. TAB is the top of the food chain and most expensive. If budget isn't an issue then go for it.

One caveat: Unlike the iPad no password entry is required when making a purchase in the market. DO NOT have a credit card number in his Google account. That way he can't purchase apps or make in-app purchases without typing in a credit card number.

+1. Make sure you get a warranty with accidental damage. I'm sure your kid is great, but it takes only one drop to ruin these things.
Have you ever used a tablet? It's not the same as a PC. Many things still don't work. One of your requirements is that video work without transcoding. You're not going to get that from a tablet (I use three seperate video programs because some work for some files, and some files just need to be transcoded. It's hit or miss). I don't believe there is a data-free gps solution just yet (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The "fast" browser is still buggy, and pressing buttons or drop down menus can still be a problem. Finally, for a 9-year-old kid there isn't much in the way of parental controls for android yet. If he can use google, he's going to find all kinds of interesting content...
My advice would be the same: get him a cheap netbook. If you really want him to have a tablet, get one of the smaller lighter ones (7") or at least one of the burlier ones (like the iconia or the xoom) so it can take a short drop. There are a lot of smaller lighter choices from china; build quality sucks but they cost less than half this much and have much of the same functionality. The GT10 is very thin (which is why I like it), but it is also far more likely to be damaged by a short fall or a wrong step. At least go to the store and have the kid play around with one for a few minutes, see if he can find his way around it without help (or you will become tech support...).
Good luck! Please post back your experiences. Many of us will be interested in how your kid takes to a tablet computer.
Find out what your kid wants the tablet for games etc or just surfing the net my son is 14 bought him a iPad for xmass never plays it he just wanted it for hell of it

GPS/Navigation without data
Is that really possible? I tried to open up maps/google nav without being connected to wifi and got a pop up stating I needed a data connection to use the app. Since then I have pre-cached certain areas on maps but as far as turn by turn directions doesn't that need data?
Let me put it this way, my son is 4 years old. I let him play with my iPad and my SGT 7", and he does just fine with them, he's gentle, and treats them with care. He can navigate through them like nobody's business. He'd probably be fine using my SGT 10.1, but I won't let him mess with it simply because it's not as rigid (tough) as the other two, and accidents can happen. If you do end up getting your son an SGT 10.1, I suggest getting a rugged case for it like an Otterbox. (though that defeats the form-factor if you're getting it for thinness)

If there is one thing that i will say for the apple ipad2 it is that they are for kids and old people. If its for your 9 year old son, i would deffinately get him an ipad. But if you need things like flash then i would go for a netbook. There are many good options, small form factor, things like that.

Stop the madness
Galaxy TAB.. NO NO NOT for a 9 year old unless you have an otterbox defender case which will never be realease. Otterbox had a press statement that said they will not be producing any otterbox accessores for the Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1. (a bummer I know)
Now my 4 Year old daughter has an ipad 1 encased in the otterbox defender series case. I have all types of books and learning apps on there for her and she loves it. Even have her movies on it (64GB Ipad 1 3G & Wi-fi) sure we don't use the 3G but I only paid $300 for it on ebay. I must also state that while I think children should get used to these things early my daughter is not your average 4 year old. She actually reads on a 2nd grade level. I think the IPAD 1 should be considered you can get one cheap on Ebay or CraigsList. I don't like apple's locked down devices however I couldn't find nearly as many Educational apps (formatted for tablets).. just my 2 cents. I am by no means an apple fanboy. I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I have the Nook Color.. My wife uses the Xoom.

[Q] Got 1 to write review - simple help needed :-)

Hi,
just got SGT 3G 10.1 to write a review. Since my everyday device is iPad (1) and a while back I have decided I will wait Tegra 2 devices out I got few simple questions I need help with (because of the different system):
- how do I put Netflix app on this thing?
- how do I hack Hulu (I do not have Hulu Plus)?
- I got Dice player (trial) and it works nicely with my NAS storage but it is a trial :-( I do not want to spend cash on software since I do not have any Android device currently - so.. is there any decent free alternative to Dice Player (btw: Mobo is having problems with playback)
- is there any nice (free) RSS reader (like Mobile RSS for iPad)
- any other way to watch NBC or ABC (there are apps for iPad) than through browser?
- do you guys use stock browser or is there any better free alternative (heard rumours that proper Chrome is coming - lucky you!!)
Do your SGT's get warm at the back (area below on/off switch)?
Thanks for help, in advance!
Are you planning to review the SGT 10.1 also .....?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Also?
No, just.
But I am interested in those things for myself as well. A while back I decided to go with iPad 1 instead of SGT. Now, since I got it for a longer period of time I also want to know if I made a right choice.

So what your saying is that your not really planning on doing a review on the Tab 10.1??? The title of your post confuses me a bit then.
And since you have both the iPad and a Tab wouldn't it be easy to see if you made the right choice for yourself. You have both devices right in front of you to compare. "The right choice" is really dependant on how you plan to use and what your looking for from your device. Everyone expects and demands a little something different from the devices they choose. Case in point, my wife wanted a tablet that she could play games on, check her email and shop online with. I wanted a tablet that I could tweek to were I could use it for not only personal things like media, browsing and gaming but also easily setup to use for work as well. She opted for the iPad 2 for its ease of setup and use, I opted for the Tab 10.1 for its ability to customize it to my exact needs.
The right choice is for you and only you to make in the end... Your the one who has to use it everyday.

Try MX Palyer.
What software version does your tab have? I ask because older versions are really laggy. Install KI1 and you will get a really smooth device, you can find it in development forum.
RSS reader, try Pulse.
I'm using the stock browser. Make sure you enable plug ins in settings, otherwise flash won't work.
You can find the Netflix apk in apps forum.
I found a link to Netflix app on transformer forum. Downloaded, installed - does not work :-(.
After logging in I got error message about stream (will let you know the no later on as I do not have the device with me).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=93644018 - this is all I found about hulu - not much (I entered Hulu Hack).
BTW: how to get apps that have regional restricition, with iTunes it is easy, one just needs to setup new account. Same with Android Market?
Software on this tab shows HC 3.1 and it is laggy as hell. When going out from settings to home screen it takes a bit to draw all the widgets and first few swipes between desktops are far from smooth
Al the time I find its screen a bit less responsive than at iPad - has any one else similar feeling/response?
And let me ask again - back of the device I got gets quite warm, enough to get sweaty fingers which makes holding the device not very pleasant.
I think manufacturers should make teir tablets as light as possible but a bit thicker (not like Xoom or Thrive) but a bit chunkier than iPad2 or SGT 10.1.
But my overall experience so far is good - funny thing about screens. As there is difference between iPad and SGT in resolution (and fonts and screen size) I find it easier to surf the net with ipad (I use iPad 99% of the time in horizontal position with "Home" button on the side), like everything on the screen a wee bit bigger and easier to read. On the other hand when it comes to pictures and movies SGT looks better.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Sorry my bad.
Umm Netflix is on the market. Most of these questions are android related and not specific to the tab. I encourage you to try out apps and read the forums like the rest of us if you want a true review. The beauty of android is its ability to be customized. Take some time to make the device truly yours then review it.
I appreciate your comment, that is exactly what I am trying to do. Unfortunately I can not find the information I am looking for. I have tried "search" and entered there both "key words" Netflix and Hulu - so far no luck.
If Netflix app is in the market it is ot available to me as I'm am not in the USA. I have to admit that it is much easier with iOS. Especially for someone fresh.
I have had both and got rid of the ipad2. My main reason, though, was I needed openvpn and couldn't wait for a jailbreak for the ipad2 to come out since mine was new enough to already have 4.2.5 on it, no SHSH blobs.
That said I ditched my iPhone for a captivate, so I should have known already

Hi all, first post and need help!

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could offer some advice.
I am due to be working away from home for half the month and at the moment my set up at home consists of a beast of a gaming rig. I don't want to fork out for an expensive gaming laptop and thought the prime might be a good option for me.
So a few questions...
1. How do the remote desktop applications fare on the prime? Essentially I would need to use the prime to wake up my pc at home, control torrent downloads and maybe play a game with low graphic demands like football manager (i'm not expecting BF3 or other FPS...could an MMO work via remote desktop? like TOR?)
2. With regards to the "cloud storage" do you get 2gb with the transformer prime? if so can this also be accessed via a pc at home? So I could for example...
Remotely download a movie.
Put the movie file onto the cloud storage.
Access the movie file from my prime so that I can watch it in an area without wifi.
3. Is there a way to add a 3g dongle to the prime?
4. I am due a phone upgrade in March. I currently have a HTC desire which has stood the test of time for it's 2 year contract. Money is a little tight so I was considering getting my phone upgrade and sticking it on ebay to cover most of the prime's cost. I figure I only need a phone for calls and the built in sat nav and the prime can do the rest. also my HTC desire can only get me £75 from mobile recycling places.
5. As I have to wait until March is there a tablet I have overlooked which will be released in March that would be superior to this...basically if i am waiting until March should I hold out for something else?
Thanks in advance for the replies everyone!

3 no 3g dongle it's a wifi tablet
4 get the nexus a you can find them cheap and feet ics on them
5 tablets well be the same by March all quad core all same resolution that's my view anyway all you can do its wait and pick on personal opinion

I use Teamviewer, it runs the computer just like I was in front of it, never tried major gaming on it though. I don't think it would work well since most of the login apps out there decrease colors and other things to enhance performance.
2. With regards to the "cloud storage" do you get 2gb with the transformer prime? if so can this also be accessed via a pc at home? So I could for example...
You get 8 gb, and yes you can access/sync it from any computer. I use it to sync my work, Prime, and home computer files
Remotely download a movie.

In order to do that it will have to be downloaded first to your prime, but it can be done.

Don't know

right now it really is a waiting game to see what other tablets come out by then, if any. Probably the Ipad3 will be out, and I would guess 1-2 more Tegra 3 tabs, but they may hit production delays just like the prime did, no one really knows, right now it is a crap shoot. The great part is this tab is going to be competitive with anything that comes out next year for the most part.
Thanks in advance for the replies everyone!

Ok, my msg is too short....
You can control your PC over the internet using TeamViewer. No, you won't be able to play an MMO or do other major gaming on it. I guarantee you that TOR will be a slideshow, you'll be able to gather nodes (if you log near them) and manage Crew Missions but that's about it.
If you are running Windows7 you will need to use a Magic Packet to wake your PC to manage torrents, etc. I believe there is also an Android app that will remotely manage Mircotorrent (aka uTorrent) remotely without requiring you to manage your PC.
You can share your files via DropBox (or similar) as long as you are mindful of the 2GB limit.
No better tablet has been announced for March release yet, and if it were (given the industry standard of badly slipped release dates) I wouldn't count on it. Now if one had been announced with a January release....
You can remote in using Splashtop HD to remote in. It transmits both video and audio. Just have to install remote viewer software on the pc.

In relation to the 3g single question, Asus feel that as android phones can tether then peeople would just tether to their prime. Obviously they are assuming that everyone with a prime will already have a smart phone with tethering available, this is a stretch.

wow some fantastic comments thank you all.
I think there has to be a limit to expectation here. I'm not expecting the remote desktop to run things perfectly but it won't be it's primary function otherwise I'd just get a laptop.
So £500 then...I wonder if carphonewarehouse would do a deal if you buy a contract from them.
splashtop HD or built in splashtop in mycloud in mydesktop should work fine for video or gaming. just make sure to load reviewer on to PC. pretty simple setup. load reviewer on PC. load on tablet. enter names and passwords on both devices and your good to go.
another thing to look at for gaming is OnLive. its out for Android. allows you to play PC/console/Indie games through the cloud on OnLive servers. response time is fastest out there and basically no lag. feels just as if you natively playing the game. there are some great games up there like PC/Nvidia optimized Batman Arkham City, Homefront fps, Metro 2033, unreal tournament(PC version), etc.. the games look and play great on the prime. no loss in quality basically. the app is free from marketplace. free to make an account. you get to play all the games with a free 30 min. trial period. you can flat out buy the game but best seems to be the bundle package. for $9.99 a month you have unlimited access to 100's of top notch PC/console games. I was playing Darksiders, through OnLive, on my prime. no lag at all, graphics looked sick. definitely a cool experience and great deal considering the caliber and number of games they have up there.

NICE! I never needed a reason for onlive...I'll have to check it out.

why are so many games marked incompatible

Is it just me or does it seem like half the fricking games in the market marked incompatible?!??!
Even stuff like bejwelled....
a lot of the time I can get the app via my phone, backup the apk and manually sideload it and it works fine. But this is not a permanent fix....
Is this sony being lazy, google being lazy, app devs being lazy, or something else?
Without root I'm guessing there's no fix?!??!
The worst bit is that this 'block' isn't consistent: an app may be blocked in the web market, and doesn't come up when searching from tablet, but say I hit an ad in the marketplace or tegrazone and BAM it lets me install. WHAT THE ?!?!?!?!
Sometimes I think that Sony has something to do with that.. but I hope thats only my conspiracy mind playing tricks on me..

I have a sneaking feeling its app devs who have to mark their apps as compatible or incompatible and since this tablet doesn't have a big presence, it falls through their cracks...
I've seen several games where say the Lite version is marked available but the full version IS NOT (i.e. Siegecraft THD). Of course the full version runs fine if you sideload it... ROFL
Yes it's definitely the app publishers who declare compatibility and I just don't think the tablet s has made a big enough splash. It sucks cause like you said you can sideload the apps. I'm sure once we get ICS things will change...
I gotta say i'm pretty steamed. I specifically got a tegra 2 device to maximize gaming compatibility, now the only "hardcore" games showing are shadowgun, GTA3 and Asphalt 6. No nova, mc2, mc3 etc etc. Not very happy at this point.
The weird part is, a simple realestate app won't show in the market on it :\.
I wish there was some way to just force the market to show all apps, like in cyanogen mod. Just without the need for root since we don't have that yet
It has a LOT to do with fragmentation in Android, with all the different versions on all the different devices, a developer has to test and be 100% sure before it marks its app as "compatible." Try contacting the developer if you want help, unfortunately it's nothing SONY has done.
You dont understand problem.
Some time ago we could buy apps:for example, Dead Space.
But suddenly Android Market said:you couldnt buy this app because it incompatible with your Sony Tablet S.
Can somebody tell me if bang bang racing shows up in the market?
Update, factory reserve fixed it, most apps are good to go. Dread , I would give that a shot.
Don't get mad at Sony for gameloft games being incompatible, that's game loft's fault

Hey wintermute000 can you check if bang bang racing shows up in the market? It there any way to pay for an app or game and then sideload it. The tablet is discounted at tiger direct. I love that game lol.

I do understand problem. What's happening is that Gameloft is updating their game and changing which versions/iterations of Android their game is compatible with, and with the thousand of different variations of Android coming out every day, they have either changed or our software version has changed and they're no longer compatible. As many have said, ICS will fix A LOT of that. You can try a master reset, but other than that just wait for ICS or sideload it from a dropped apk.
Thank you for answer)
I have one question:why EA games(Real Racing 2 and Dead Space) doesnt support sony tablet s?
It's not that they don't support the tablet s, it's just that they're not specifically listed as compatible with either the tablet s or the version of android we're running (maybe sony's update to 3.1.2 or whatever it was) isn't listed under their market description so it won't allow you to install it from the market. There are ways around that but you won't be able to get updates or support through the market. I'm waiting for ICS (hopefully Feb) and most, if not all, of these problems should be resolved!

sd card for transfer only....

Wow, now I remember why I dont buy sony products. Whoever decided to make the sd card slot usless should get a tab up side the head.
Sd card: useless compared to non crippled slots
Micro usb? really? thats the best you could cram into a tablet this size... fail
No hdmi? major fail
The charger is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen
Bravo sony, you wanted to create a tablet that you had to cut by 100$ and a tablet that is crippled and missing its leggs.
Even some 7inch tabs have hdmi, full size usb and a charger that doesnt sound like metal teeth being snapped.
As for power and gpu, my samsung galaxy NOTE gt-N7000 runs circles around this failure.
If you love it, good for you, I require more.
Rant over
First of all, of course you galaxy note runs circles around it. It's clocked at 1.4ghz vs the sony s's 1ghz. Not really sure what your basis for the claims of the GPU performance are.. they should be fairly similar though, so if the Galaxy Note does indeed outperform it then your right that it's pretty crappy of Sony.
I agree with you for most of the other parts though. Can't really justify the need for downsizing the USB port when it's such a large case up there. Hell they could have fit two there! HDMI would have been great, but there are plenty that don't have it on the market, at least this one offers DLNA. I don't have a problem with the charger.. seems to me that it would be much, much more durable than the micro USB's android phones ahve been strapping.
Plus some people pay hundreds for a universal remote, and this has one with great form and function. Like anything it has it's pro's and cons.
The two things that stung me about it that got me after purchase is the SDcard storage thingo, and lack of support from gameloft :\.
But hey, could be worse and just not have an SD card slot like some do. Now that is a fail.

The gpu plays as big a roll as the cpu in terms of render. I had a 154$ tablet that used an all winner cortex9 with a mali-400 gpu and it destroys the sony tablet. Of course at 154$ it had a ****ty 7inch screen. After my iphone 4 and 4s, i cant go back to hiddeous pixel screens. I found the perfect middle ground in my Samsung Note. It has the muscle to back up its amazing screen.
BTW, that cheap tablet with the amazing cpu/gpu had hdmi, usb and a micro sdhc slot. Its the now gone Ainol Novo 7 Advanced (not the the basic model).
I must say, the sony tablet screen look terrible compared to my Note but if i hold it far enough away, the pixels dont jump out at me as much.
Mind you its apples to oranges because the Note's display is an ips super amoled with an almost retina ppi.
I called sony today to pass on my thoughts. They sound ignorant. Their sales reflect that. Maybe if they drop it another 100$ people will stop returning it when the insert their sd card and haul the charger out of the box with a tractor.
The card works fine with any 3rd party app quickpic mx player etc thanks for playing technical genius
Who uses stock apps anyway

Oh, and try to download a movie on your sony tablet directly to you sd card.... oh right, crippled
Regarding the "crippled" SD Card slot, as far as I can tell its only crippled with Sony apps. If you use any standard Android app the SD card slot is fully usable and accessible. I've got a 32 gig sd card in there and have no problem playing videos/music/open files directly off it. No speed issues or anything. I never transfer anything...

Nowhere did I refer to playback. Try to download natively to your sd card with your tablet. Crippled. Playback is useless if you cant get the media on the card in the first place. Maybe run out and buy a real tablet to do the muscle work and use the sony for the pansy playback?
Did Sony kill your parents? Good Lord, let it go. You don't like the Tablet S, but a lot of us do. Who cares? Don't buy it! I like PS3 controller compatibility and universal remote features. They build different tablets for a reason, just like how they make different phones, different TVs, furniture, cars, ice cream flavors, etc...
You can use dolphin browser ( and many other browser ) to download file into sd card directly.

Yes thank you. Too bad dolphin crashes on my sony tab and it only downloads certain things. I download movies and stuff on my samsung note with torrent apps. Sony s will only download to its own memory. But thanks

Sell your sony and use your samsung if is better than a workstation.
Sony s runs android, so " Sony s will only download to its own memory " is a meaningless phrase.

Anything I say will be meaningless to you for the simple fact that you are limited to your own opinion. I however dont get frustrated when other people are not acting as my clone.
"Sony s runs android"?? do you think my more capable Note runs windows 7??Obviously they both use android.
On most tablets and my Note, "I" decide where my downloads go ie to the units memory or to the memory card I have installed. Sony s makes that choice for you. Its not my opinion, its a fact. Kinda runs in the face of what android lovers seem to hold so dear... "freedom".
I may sell my crippled tablet for a capable one, or just give it to my 5 year old nephew to play with.
I will pick up a galaxy tab, as far as I can see, looks better.
Dont hate on people, life is too short ;-)
lifes too short to go moaning on a forum about a problem thats arguable negligible to most usage scenarios, then writing snarky 'witticisms'.
your really need more hobbies if you're resorting to torrenting on tablets and complaining about not being able to do so on one model.... (who the heck does that?!!).

you are crazy boy.
He's only making points that have been made time and time again by most of you, just he's not willing to just accept it and be happy with the tab. No real reason for everyone to start flaming
It's very true that sony has imposed too much of there own influence. Not only that, but made it so there is currently no possible way to root it and make the changes we want done.

I Don't understand this kind of posts, what helps? We need to improve the usability of this tablet until the root is not available...

Thanks for being helpful. I knew i wasnt the only person to ever complain here about the sd problem. I wasnt harping on it, simply replying to people who took the time to talk with me about it.
I too look forward to a root and i hope that the sd problem is software not hardeware and that sony might wake up to at least match 150$ tablets in that regard.
Im not a fan of honeycomb so ics would be nice. Cheers

My 3rd party apps that download video or music content are restricted to the 16GB internal. There is zero way to make anything go to the sd card because the tablet treats the sd card as if it wasnt even there. The only thing the tablet can do is transfer files to and from the sd card.. Period.
As for dolphin, what would you download with that?
On a side note.. you can download with atorrent and specify the the destination can't you? The only problem I had with it was wifi going into sleep mode.. so I was pretty dissapoinnted to wake up and find it only downloaded 1.2%. lol.
Basically I knew what I was buying hardware wise when I bought it - aside from the creaks I discovered later. Then was massively let down software wise due to the restrictions.
I feel asthough if we got it rooted, we could just rename sdcard1 to sdcar2, and vice versa. Hopefully such a switcharoo would work and then it would continue on as it has, but with much more memory there .
It's going to be a real shame if Sony's take on ICS leaves us in the same boat, can't be rooted, can't be downgraded, and then someone discovers a root for HC
