List of ROM Ideas! (add your own!) - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Okay so I have a few ideas for ROMS (I know Its a little early but still) In no specific order
1. The ablity to remap the 16 shortcut keys on the keyboard to whatever you want! (kinda like the quick toggle widgets but for the dock keys)
the reason I want this is because I keep pressing the arrow keys while typing and it keeps messing up when im typing! Can we disable these just like you can disable the mouse!
A list of shortcuts I would love to be assigned to the dock!
*All of the stock ones
*A wake function
*Ability to map application shortcuts (Market, browser ect.)
*Mount/Unmount SD card Micro+Full
*Pull up the quick toggle/notification bar! (also add more toggles in that menu)
2. A better dock to tablet charging policy (multiple governs)
3. Hide the on screen home back keys when dock is attached! (kinda like when you watch a full screen youtube video!)
4. Get rid of the SD card notification
5. Switch to a password unlock when the dock is connected (instead of pattern?)
6. Optimize the GPS
7. Disable all of the dock keys
Add any of your other Ideas below and I will add them to the list!

would this not be best in the android Development forum?

no unless it is a rom or kernal it belongs in the General Check the stickies in the development section
This thread is for you guys to give the DEVS and idea of what you would like!

ahh makes sense.. I like I like

Not sure if this is possible but i would love (and send donations to) a developer who can get rid of the MTP and allow USB Mass Storage connection with my desktop.

Once we get the botloader unlock/custom recovery I do believe I can accomplish most of these
sent from my Atrix via XDA premium

Another rather specific feature I'd like to have is to deactivate the dock.
Sounds strange?
Well I'd like to deactivate the dock in order to use it only as the perfect stand for Prime. Together with those charging policies that could be kinda useful

Some of these I might be able to do for ya even though the bootloader is still locked, we can still mod this thing.

this may sound crazy but when I use Elixir2 to check out specs and details of the Prime, it tells me USB Mass Storage is already enabled on it. its a free app.

Oh and something really important: The ability to automatically switch between keyboards when you dock/undock the dock.
I need to use the ASUS software keyboard because of my german dock layout, but I don't want to use ASUS' keyboard when undocked....

one main thing would be re-enabling that developer overclocking mode to allow 1.5 or 1.6ghz overclock. Or even higher. Also since Tegra3 supports 3d display and sound, maybe making a virtual tab to enable it or turn it off and on when you want. Maybe add even more USB host capabilities/drivers. Once windows 8 comes out later this year on tegra3 chipset port it over to the Prime. Dual boot capabilities.

Sounds wonderful viperboy

Thats because the Prime is MTP. Essentially when you plug it in, you see the drives right away on your computer. It is different than phones.

That's asking alot lol more info on that developer overclock?

First in my list is that dev mode overclock (described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431886). That would be amazing.
Allowing the microsd inerted message to be dismissed after its displayed would also be nice, as I usually leave my card in.

the link to it is right underneath your post. it was seen that that developers Prime had a mode called developer mode that enabled either 1.5 or 1.6Ghz. The OP of that article went to sine release party n saw it. he posted pix up of it also. The developer there said Tegra3 could easily be overclocked higher than 1 4Ghz. so it can even go higher than the dev. overclock.

Easily doable, just need kernel support
That may be not configurable
Doable
Never put SD in, so ill check on that hahaha, but any notification is ususal removable
Most likely no-go unless we create a custom app to remove the original lockscreen setting (which only allows one at a time). but it is doable
in the works

I wish I could use light sensor to turn on or off screen

Get rid of the sd card mount icon. It's so easy to hit accidentally.

Any chance of adding a Tun.ko module in the ROMs? I'd really want to use OpenVPN for securing my WiFi connections.

Yeah that pesky icon is so annoying same with the icon when docked!

development screen settings

has anyone else found this screen and what to do with it, other than the obvious usb tabs. i having trouble with screen shot but if you tap the left bottom corner of the screen, the notifications window will come up, as you push in the usb cable to charge, this will expand and give you the standard usb notfication. if you press this notification, a settings screen will appear, evev after removal of usb cable.
hopefully screen shots will appear.
Wow I had no idea lol
Ok so if you install anycut you can make a direct link to the development settings so no need to play with a usb cable.
That token setting looks interesting but it just closes to home ill have to play with logcat later
anycut gives a lot of very interesting options... but though I made shortcuts I can't see them in any of my launchers. I have Launcher Pro, the Nook standard one and Zeam. No default... i rather like the options.
But some of the options given by Anycut are keyboard settings and CDMA/GPRS/Network settings.
Wow, has anyone tried that on a non-rooted nook?
That's the main difference to Anycut... of course we can get to these settings once we have rooted. But if this screen can be accessed via a standard nook, that hasn't been "nootered", we can just enable adb there. Whether adb then has root access (as with nooter) I don't know, but still it's a new and easier angle at getting access to the device.
I got it to show up this way:
(0. no USB connected)
1. press the left bottom corner ... this will show you the original android notification bar as popup
2. connect USB cable (to PC and device)
3. you usually can't do anything because of the USB-Mode popup, but since the notification bar has focus we can touch the icon that now appears there.
-> remove cable and you are on the screen shown in OP's post.

I just tried this on my un-rooted nook, and wasn't able to get the screen to appear.
The USB dialog he's referring to should only appear if you're rooted and ADB is enabled.
This potentially means, however, that the rest of the settings aren't actually removed from the nook, just hidden, and that there should be a way to access them somehow.
Ohhhh that would be nice..

Several options will be more functional if you harvest the "extra" apps installed on the nookcolor emulator that ships as part of the SDK.
Also, if you're curious about how to toggle this setting without the UI,
have a look at /data/property/persist.service.mount.umsauto

How to get rid of "External Storage Inserted" Notification

It shows up on bottom right whenever SD card is inserted. How do i get rid of it? Kinda annoying to look at.
Don't think you can. I've been staring at it for 2 weeks! Maybe when some ROMs are available.
Yeah hopefully as the custom ROM scene matures the devs roll get rid of that and maybe the dock icon. There seems to be a lot of notification spam in ics/honeycomb...unless it's an Asus thing

Notifications come from apps only (some may be system ones, of course), since apps can call notifications. I suppose this external storage notification is called by ASUS tweaked app, since MicroSD was never notified on my old HTC Desire.
I'd like to know as well. Just received my Amazon 16gb sdcard today and I see the same thing when I inserted it.
Just to point out, Acer Iconia Tab A501 has that (extremely annoying) notification as well, both on stock and custom rom.
Probably an ICS thing then.
It's honeycomb/ics thing...been like that since the beginning
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
Stuff like this can surely be fixed in a ROM or a hack once bootloader is unlocked and your rooted. I don't "think" root alone can stop it. I looked in SystemUI and do not see the notification icon.
Is there any other way besides using a different ROM to hide the notification?
What I do is un-mount the sd card when not using it, but leave it in the slot. Then when I want to use it again I re-mount it...that way it is still stored in the slot. 2 quick pushes on the card make its data available again.
I kind of like it, it reminds me that my SD card has not fallen out of the drive.
Try this, and see if it works.
1. go to Settings -> Asus Customized Settings-> uncheck "Use ASUS Quick Setting" -> exit
2. Bring up the notification menu (tap bottom right corner where the time and wifi signal is) -> tap the settings button under the time -> Turn Notification off -> tap settings at the bottom -> go back to Asus Customized Settings and turn on the Quick Settings. -> Exit
I now do not have the docking icon or the external drive icon, only the time, wifi signal and the power icons.

Personally I prefer having it as well. I think it's probably just a design choice. A decision had to be made on weather to optimize this functionality for those who plug in the card and rarely if ever take it out vs those of us who are frequently pulling it out and putting it back in. If you are frequently removing it for use outside the prime, the notification is a good thing.
For example at work, I typically do not have my usb cable with me however I do have a card reader that will read my micro sd card from the prime or my SD card from the dock (the dock sd card has the notification too FYI). So when I want to transfer something to my prime, the easiest way is often to pull the card from the device and stick it in the computer. When getting ready to pull a card, the icons are a good reminder to tell me they are currently still mounted.
So I guess its a case of one man's annoyance is another man's feature. I happen to like it the way it is.
I didn't like it at first.. Then I lost a microsd card and I knew I had lost it because the icon had disappeared..

ROM feature and MOD interests/requests

Though I am not a developer, I think it would be nice to start a thread for ideas to be thrown out on what people would like to see in development for the EVO LTE so developers can get an idea of MODs and features this community is interested in. Not that every single feature/MOD should be in one single ROM, but just an idea of what MODs have interest. I think I make sense.
This list reflects my suggestions as well as member's posts through this thread as of 5/31/12.
While the phone is locked, pushing the dedicated camera button for XX amount of seconds wakes the phone and opens the camera app, but doesn't necessarily unlock the phone
Quicksettings/Quick settings tab in notification area
Ability to place the 1x1 widgets (such as Sync All) into the Rosie
A MOD for a curved, classic EVO 4G Rosie
Increase the transparency of HTC widgets
A MOD to create a white pull down notification area as opposed to the black space
Multitasking "issue" to be resolved
A MOD to force the screen to stay locked after a call ends
Tthe ability to adjust the notification volume separate from the main ringtone volume
Get rid of the app association feature
Volume wake
CRT Animations
Long press volume keys to skip a track forward and back in Music apps
Ubuntu development
Other interests?
I'd like to get a mod to force the screen to stay locked after a call ends. If you're talking hands free with phone in pocket, it will unlock when your call ends. Should be a straightforward fix to force lock after call if screen is off.
someone to dig through the android code change from GB to ICS and see wtf Google changed that borked the ability to adjust the notification volume separate from the main ringtone volume...I'd LOVE to have that back....from what ive been told it isn't in stock ICS nor is it even able to be controlled via 3rd party apps on devices running 4.0.X like they could in GB and previous versions...
^^^^^^ agreed.
And how to get rid of the black menu bar and incorporate longpress for menu somehow.
Lastly, (well, for now, lol)
Brightness slider in notification bar (may have to wait for AOSP for that), but actually, it was something else, oh, yeah, how to get rid of the damn app association feature that HTC had to develop to get around apple patent BS. I've read that simply removing htclinkify.all does not accomplish this. I hate what apple forced on Android.
Oh, and CRT animations.

There is an app that takes care of it already, actually:

Like most people, I'd like to see the recent apps button become the menu button and get rid of the damn triple dot bar. The recent apps should be a long press of the home button like it was on the OG EVO.
Now, if I'm dreaming big dreams, this is what I really, really want:
I want Ubuntu for Android on my EVO. The demos I've seen so far have Ubuntu activated when the phone docks, but who needs that when you have HTC Media Link. I envision hooking a media link up to a monitor, and pairing it with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (maybe a DLNA hard drive). Obviously you'd have to manually launch the Ubuntu desktop, but in that case, you could even have a popup option that offered you Ubuntu desktop, or the Ubuntu TV interface.

Good luck watching YouTube videos in the YouTube app when they're posted as a link. Chrome often launches the YouTube app when trying to play a video, but isn't always consistent. It's an improvement over the stock browser... But I'd rather it launch the app than try and render it on the page. If we get prompted, we can pick every action as they occur, or even leave some options open so you can use a couple different apps for one choice (ergo, click a phone number and add it to contacts/call the number/send that number a text message. I like that much more. I imagine most do too.

Do you mean the app association? If so, how do you figure? I really like when I click on a link, when it asks me if I want YouTube or browser. Right now, I'm not allowed to change anything. ICS Official changes

Ok folks, what Im going to do here is go through some of the major things I have noticed since installing the official ICS but before I do that, let me give my two sentence review.
Its nice. If you are wondering what the Note SHOULD have performed like on launch, this is it. MUCH improved scrolling, better performance and slightly more aggressive app handling.
Ok, I lied, three sentences.
Changes:
NOTE that I will NOT be covering changes to the launcher portion of ICS.
1. Overall performance is better. Using Go Launcher, with the app drawer set to 6x6, it scrolls MUCH more smoothly. The market scrolls much smoother, settings, the same. It isnt 'butter' but it is much more acceptable now, not stuttering to the point of overshooting apps.
2. Notifications menu now has two new toggles - Flight Mode and Power Savings. There is now also a fast Settings button that will take you straight into the Android Settings app.
3. The power menu (long pressing your screen on/power button) has had accessibility moved to the top of the menu (if you had this enabled) and now has a 'Reboot phone' option (YAY!!)
4. ALL system apps that CAN be linked to the market are now correctly linked. This means your list of installed apps will be a bit longer (when looking in the play store list) and also means that these apps will be able to be updated without manually searching for each one by one.
5. There are obvious signs of the original UI ICS all over the place, notably the spinning circle but you'll see it everywhere.
6. Improved battery life, for the amount I have used the phone, its at a much higher percentage than it normally would have been.
One quick point to interject, apps can now be disabled
Originally Posted by j101399j View Post

I know this worked on some of the ICS roms, so I just looked and verified that even though you cannot uninstall some of the bloat (without root), you can disable it . For example, I can disable Swype and install Swype Beta now. I hate AT&T Navigator, so I disabled it. If it cannot be uninstalled, disable it.

Now. the rest of this is the stuff under settings. Im going to cover what I recognize to be new.
Under Settings:
First off, you'll notice that everything is now categorized into different groups now, making finding things in Settings a bit easier.
Wireless and Network
Tapping on Wifi or Bluetooth now takes you to the screens to configure the advanced settings for these features. Tapping 'On/Off' on the right side enables or disables the radios.
Data Usage
Here is where you can set up your billing cycle dates and put hard caps on your PHONE to keep your data usage under what your carrier allows. Fairly straight forward but make sure you set your billing date up correctly or this will be of NO use.
More
Here you will find NFC (YAY), Android Beam (send data between two devices using NFC), and Wifi Direct (connect two devices with a wifi antenna without the need for a router/hub).
Device
Call
Nothing new here, just a few things moved around a bit.
Sound
Again, nothing new, just shuffled a bit to make things easier to get to. Note that the menu button now no longer brings up any advanced settings here, they are all accessible by navigating the screen options.
Display
A few things moved around a bit BUT a new feature, Show battery percentage in notifications bar. NICE Also, Gyroscope Calibration is now an option.
Power Saving
Unchanged
Storage
Prettier but unchanged, a little bit more information but not much.
Battery
Unchanged
Applications
Unchanged, tho it should be noted that you can hit your menu button while in this screen to sort the list by Size
Personal
Accounts and Sync
Unchanged
Location Services
Unchanged
Security
Big one here but this is where you will find face unlock and even a voice recognition feature that can I believe be used in conjunction with another method to unlock your phone. I havent had much time to look at it yet.
Language and Input
Largely unchanged but its a bit more intuitive to change your keyboard now. And, for an interesting 'feature' that Samsung forgot to disable, Pointer speed, which has NO effect on our phone, this option is only for phones with a trackpad (Samsung forgot to disable this - made me smile).
Back up and reset
Nice, this option used to be buried under privacy and is now brought out into the main settings list. Much easier to find, it
System
Dock
Unchanged
Pen Settings
New option, Hovering pen icon (shows a pen icon over the screen where the pen is hovering)
One Handed Operation
3 completely new settings, to configure the calculator, dialer, and unlock pattern to be configured for use with one hand (clumps everything on one side of the screen so that you can say dial numbers with just your thumb rather than the usual having to hold the phone with one hand and dial with your other).
Date and Time
Unchanged
Accessibility
Two new options, Speak passwords. Havent had time to check to see if this works for unlocking the phone as well, but if it does, that would be silly. Tap and Hold delay can now be configured as well as allowing or disallowing the installation of web scripts.
Motion
New option, Double Tap to allow voice dictation easily. Sweet
Developer Options
Several new things you can make visible for the nerdy types but Im not going to cover them here since they are really only for developers .
About Phone
Unchanged
Ok, that should give you an idea of what to look for, if someone else wants to cover the touchwiz stuff (adding or removing widgets/icons/homescreens) I can add it.
Also, if there is anything I missed or got wrong...
Ok, one more new thing, the phone now charges correctly off your USB port, ie. charges faster.
Awesome write up! Do you have any idea how -- or if -- we can add app shortcuts to the lockscreen like the SGSIII?
PS: I have Widgetlocker but would prefer to use the system for this if possible.
Under Settings Developer Options you have the ability to adjust the Window Animation scale and also Transition Animation Scale.
When I set these to 0 then launchers like Go launcher behave much quicker.

My understanding is, one of the major improvements made to ICS is the ability to offload some of the processing to the processor / gpu depending on current load - ie. cpu is extremely busy at the moment so offload some processing to the gpu (or vice versa). Enabling this option I believe forces the gpu to handle everything regardless of the state of the cpu.
Reports have claimed enabling this option has mixed results. If the app supports gpu acceleration, you will see better performance. If it doesnt, the app will actually have worse performance and may actually crash the app in some rare cases. All ICS updated apps support this and chances are, if the software you have on your Note has been updated to support ICS, you have no issues.
So, the advice from the streets is to either keep is disabled and pretend you didnt see it or enable it and keep in the back of your mind that you might need to disable it occasionally for certain apps. The performance improvement is supposedly pretty minimal.

Under Settings Developer Options you have the ability to adjust the Window Animation scale and also Transition Animation Scale.
When I set these to 0 then launchers like Go launcher behave much quicker.

Yea, there are a couple of negatives about this however. Any native Android apps will loose some of the fancy 'little' touches (for example fading when going from one screen to another in settings). Some have reported however a small improvement in battery life doing this so its up to you. Persoinally, performance wise, I didnt notice anything differently with these set to 0. But then again, I have only one homescreen.
One other note, I just got off a 2.5 hour phone call from a full charge. Ended the call with 70% battery left. This is a HUGE improvement over GB where I likely would have been around 50% left.
not really usefull but in about phone, if you tap the android version a bunch of times you get a 8bit android in a icecream sammich.
also after the update I have no more black crush!!!

I am sorry to tell you that you are incorrect. Here is information about that toggle and other android graphics issues straight from the woman who designed the OS.
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...I-C08yEO63mvHG6BQ&sig2=bamQd77PjEBd050c6s96EQ
TLDR:
Before ICS, android used the GPU to accelerate the animations of the windows, but it left the choice of how to render graphics inside the windows to the app developer. What the toggle does, is to force GPU rendering inside the windows, even if the app did not ask for it. There are two downsides to this forced rendering. The forced rendering can break compatibility. It can also increase memory usage unnecessarily.

I see I wasn't the only one to notice that the brightness/ notification bar trick doesn't work anymore. I really hope they bring it back.
What about what is mentioned in
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00047453&fm_seq=51497
Who is the author of "My Story App" mentioned above? There are a couple different apps that it might be in the Play Store but I didn't see any mention of "S-Pen" in them.
Found it from:

bwwaahhhaaaa.... sorry but when I opened this thread it landed on you post.... and I read it out of context
Just received an email from Samsung saying to upgrade to ICS (did it via kies when 1st available). The email stated there is a newly introduced "Desktop View". This is for the default web browser.....
If you want to switch to "Desktop" browser mode, bring up the settings and select "Desktop view". So now its easier to switch between mobile and desktop browser modes.
Before you had to do "about:useragent"
Something to add to the OP; you can now also disable most stock apps.
(settings --> applications --> all --> select the app and uninstall any updates --> disable) kinda like freezing the apps without root
Apps I disabled
City ID
Device help
Media Hub
Polaris Office
Swype
Yellow pages
YPMobile
Yahoo finance
I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I hate

[Q] Note 2: The ultamite mobile desktop

So recently I had to send in my laptop for repair and do not have a replace ment for college that starts back up in a few days. I figured this would be the ultamite test for the note 2 to use it as my personal computer for a week. Does anyone have any ideas to make it more desktop friendly? Ex pop up browsers. ( I already have the hardware to put it on a monitor and add a mouse and keyboard)
Nebula rom, every app is floatable, and dockable. Some have trouble installing it, but it would work nicely as a alternative desktop.

To be honest, the whole pop-up think isnt as useful as one might think..the screen just isnt big enough for individual windows to be usable, at least to the extent of replacing both a desktop UI AND your phones UI.
A better alternative is to use a few tools that will allow you to switch between apps easily. This way you retain all the usability of whatever application youre using, while being able to flip through apps quickly.
I would recommend using "Swipe Home Button" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matthewma.swipehomebuttonfree)
I disable all the functions except for the simple "Swipe up" to get to the "Recent apps". This way anytime i want to switch, i just swipe up, and tap on the app i wanted. Its MUCH faster than pressing and holding the home button.
Also, SwipePad (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android)
This allows you to have a grid accessible anywhere, by swiping from any place of your choosing and getting to any app you want. Not just apps that are open.
Check out this guy Coldfustion on YouTube. He's got great videos explaining in detail how to use your Note 2 as a pc.
