Easy Question: How come there's a directory on the Prime labeled sdcard? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

when I don't have any microSD cards yet? Is there a reason behind that name?
I thought the Transformer Prime had a built in Solid State Drive. Am I wrong?

It has to pretend there's an SD card for backwards compatibility.

A requirement of ICS. Galaxy Nexus has one too, even though it has an SD card.
It's used to access internal memory as a backwards compatibility with older apps.

Correct, I believe an actual external sdcard mounts as REMOVABLE/MICROSD/
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Somehow the brainiacs that built these systems decided to use "SD card" as their name for memory hardwired to the board... uh yeah... logical huh?

This is the correct answer. Some apps expect there to be an SD card.

wow. just wow
ok, anyway.....the OG TF is like this too so I was prepared to see it that way. It can be confusing at first but doesn't take long to get used to (I don't have the og, but have handled one quite a bit)
Thanks to those of you that took the time to explain the "why".

I was wrong...

Actually, it's an android thing. The first commercial Android phone, the G1, had an SD card as well as most phones after that. After internal storage started getting larger and larger, more phones and devices started either not coming with an SD card, or not even an SD card slot at all. The /sdcard directory is where all of your personal information is stored. Your downloads, your pictures, etc.
It is logical if you know why it is the way it is. I'm sure it will change eventually, but it could break some stuff especially if some apps have that directory hardcoded in their code.

Okay.... I stand corrected. I just checked the internal hardwired memory of my OG Droid - as legacy as it gets - and there is in fact a directory called /sdcard/ as well as the SD Card memory card
I still think it is a horrible carry over & confusing naming convention but I concede the reason & was wrong

Oh it definitely needs to be changed, no argument here. It's an issue with any apps currently using it. They just need to change it in the next major release and give developers enough heads up to change anything they need to.

What the hell is the slot at the bottom of the right side? Looks like it comes out...
EDIT:
Just found an X-Acto knife and got it pried out!
It's an 'information card,' so to speak. It's got the serial number and product number on it. That's pretty slick!
Looks like a 3G/4G Touchpad, so its probably the Sim slot.

Nah, I've got a 32GB WiFi Touchpad and it has the slot. It's on all of them. There's a little plastic filler that moves around, but I can't seem to get it out.

Yep. On the 4G model (which is probably never coming out here), it's for a SIM.

I saw a tear down video and they called it a sim card slot.
Lots of HP products have these model/serial tags. Our Proliant servers at work all have them as well. They just pop out when pressed.
Mine pops out with a push as well. SN and MN, no SIM slot. 32GB here.
[Q] Unknown Port South of Volume Rocker
I looked through all of the posts here and couldn't find similar, so don't delete or move.
The area south of the volume rocker that pops out the serial number and FCC info. I have been suspicious of this for some time so I broke mine off. It still slides in and locks in but now I get to remove it.
Well it looks like some kind of port inside. Too big for a card reader unless there is a module that could be placed in the slot. Anybody else looked at this or know what it might be for? Any chance of a mod to make it a SD or MicroSD card reader?
Definitely some kind of expansion port..
okay, wow, this is interesting! perhaps our TP has some hidden qualities, from which we do not know anything yet i´ll stay in touch here...
It's supposed to be a sim card slot, but I forget whether or not most Touchpads have the actual board hardware installed aside from just the port. By the way, what is your TP's model # (from Device Info)?
I may have answered my own question here..
http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/...=11&tag=siu-container;photopaging#photopaging
Probably is a SIM card slot but looks like it wasn't connected to anything but could be room for improvement if anybody is good with that sort of thing..

This has been known and there is a thread already here. Another user decided to xacto knife his out.
I forgot where I read it, but I'm pretty sure it's a SIM card slot. The casing is the exact same for the upcoming (now-cancelled) TouchPad 4G for At&t. I guess it was a way for HP to cut costs.
it is a placeholder for the simcard slot that would've been available for the touchpad with 3G if HP did not discontinued production. that is all.
it's not a mysterious port, just a safe place to keep your serial number.

This ^. nothing more. Nothing about the "mystery slot" is usable in anyway "as is"
If, in any reach of the imagination a far reached mod involving adding a hardwired hack were possible, maybe, but it would not usable for the masses.
sim card slot ?¿
hi guys , just noticed that my HP touchpad seems to have a misc external slot seems you would put a sim card in there anyone knows what its for ?
its on the same side as the volume rocked at the bottom of the device

Internal SD Card, slow write speed?

Hello,
I find that my internal SD is too slow when compared to some benchmarks I see around. It usually between 9 and 10MB/s and I've seen speeds higher than 30MB/s, that's a big difference.
Is it just me?

ps: I don't use any external sd card, only the phone internal memory (sdcard).
BUMP!
i too am now having this same issue. my write speeds are only getting around 10 mb/s. can others post what they get, i think something is screwed with my phone, might take it in. but first wanna know what other get for write speed
---------- Post added at 08:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:15 PM ----------
come on people it's a simple request, simple program. just download it and run it. tell me what you get!
Don't badger people to do things for you.
Those speeds seem about right. The write speed is actually faster than I get, but your phone is overclocked, mine is not.
If people are benchmarking against a MicroSD card and the one they're using is a) fast and b) virtually empty, then they'll get better speeds. Overclocking the phone and killing other processes will also help, particularly if they access the internal memory or SD card.
FWIW - benchmark from mine @ 1.6Ghz (my internal memory is mostly full and is probably badly fragmented which wouldn't help matters).
Also, I know that CM7 used to have known write-speed issues, I've no idea if they've been resolved or not.
Edit: Looks like something else is effecting it as well. I just ran it again twice and got 13MB/sec the first time and a measly 1.6MB/sec the 2nd time.
I have the same result 106 and 200, but i have a question @knightnz, pls tell me your hpone settings kernel, becauze u had a very good result, on 1600 mhz and good gov. and I/O.

check out foldermount. might help with the pain of the smaller storage size. basically moves data to the external SD, but leaves a symlink on the internal so that apps, etc that point to that directory can still access the files. obviously not the same as a larger internal storage, but at least it helps.
I didn't figure it was going to take long for the phone to be rooted, and custom recoveries/roms installed. It didn't take long for the GS3 to fall to the modding community.
Once you root, NO MORE OTAS!!!!
People will read that, and still do it anyway, and well, that's on them.
This is the best news I've heard related to Verizon in a long time.

I'm going to try out stock for at least a few days. I'm coming from a DINC2 running CM7 in preparation for this. It's going to be a nice boost in every regard, I think.
The lure of root is tough to beat, though. I've only ever had HTC smartphones, so I've been used to waiting a month or two for root. This might be tough.

Unfortunately so, it looks like Verizon had time to upgrade to the new secure kernel (same as Sprint's latest OTA). And now we all know why they wanted to take that extra month.

Cannot be done. Wasted a good sim. The tray cant go in after the mod. Forcing it in will spoil the pin. I tried cannot work. Dont waste your time.
Omg this mod is perfect, but how we can "take off" the copper from the plastic of the sim and be able to paste it again in the sd card ?
The problem is that, since it's impossible to simply paste the nano sim into the sd card, the width is to big and don't work in tray
How do you take of the copper from the plastic @getmobilephone ?

I used nailfile to make sim and microsd card thinner.
Sharpen it carefully step by step just to prevent them from becoming broken. Then put them together in the slot(it goes there not so smooth as before but now i have 2 simcards and sd operating together)
Results and rate of sharpening you can see on the photos.
Profit.
But be carefull - All that you do is your own risk.
Just for info I damaged one 64Gb card trying to do this.

The fire method involves holding your Sim with a pair of pliers or scissors and heating the plastic part under the chip on a small flame ( matchstick, lighter, candle flame etc) to separate the gold chip from the plastic and gluing the chip to your SD card. Sounds weird but works 100% if you do it well
Thanx, i test it immediately and it seems to work Look at pictures. Now i need the Dual Mate 7

You're welcome
I tried the lighter method and it actually better than the nail file. The plastic and the glue will melt and you can easily take off the chip.

Are some Legit US version Samsung Galaxy Phone suppose to have Chinese menus in the download mode? If yes, how can I get it to English?
Are you able to download apps, download Phone Info app to check out all the hardware on firmware on your phone?
It's just the download mode that is in chinese/korean (idrk). Android OS is in English.
Also, android saids the storage capacity is 128gb, which was advertised on ebay when I purchased it. But, my computer said the storage capacity is 63.7gb when I plug it in. Additionally, my computer is labeling the phone as a G960F, instead of G965U.

I did a storage testing where I kept copying and pasting a 1gb file until I could not do that no more. So far, I could only copy and paste up to 5gb, concluding that the device have only 8gb storage (the other 3gb might be the OS), instead of 128gb as advertised.
Good thing it was purchased from ebay, instead of craigslist. Return has been initiated and I'm just waiting for a refund.
