Just found out 2 of my pre-orders came in...what to do? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

So, I just found out that both of my pre-orders are being shipped at the same time. I obviously don't need 2. Is the demand still high for these, or should I just return one? I don't care about making a profit, but wouldn't mind helping somebody out who's waiting if they are still backordered.

If you do decide to return it the best method may be to refuse the package (this way neither you nor the retailer pay return shipping). I assume this way the Prime would also be able to be immediately resold to the next person in line.
PS Amazon themselves have asked me to refuse a package in the past, that's how I know about this method.
EDIT: I just thought about this... You may want to hold onto one of them unopened just in case you have any defects on the first one?

There's probably somebody out there that would buy it from you. But with all the problems people have been having with Wifi, light bleed, etc. you might want to open them both and return the one with the least amount of "issues"

I was thinking about confirming the first one works 100% before opening the second as well, but the only downside is I'm sure I will get stuck with shipping costs back if I accept the package and who knows if they will try to charge a restocking fee.

Pretty sure no retailers will charge a restocking fee if the package is unopened. Depending on the retailer, you may get stuck with shipping costs, however.
Just thought of another tip: The only package I ever refused, I contacted the shipper (I believe it was UPS) and asked about the "refusal process" they told me I'd have to be home to refuse it, but if they left it at the porch I could simply call back within 5 days to have them pick it up free of cost to return to sender as long as the package remained unopened.
I'd give the shipper a call and ask.
Goodluck

i cancelled my micro center order right before it "shipped" since i figured these are in/out of stock so often that i cant make a premium on it. if you cant find someone to buy it on xda, try craigslist. i'm sure you wont have trouble selling it. so i guess either way works lol
just came home 40 mins ago. only put it down to let it update to ICS ITS BEAUTIFUL!

The one thing I didn't think about earlier is if I sell the unopened prime and it is defective, it will be a huge hassle for me and whoever buys it. Probably not worth it.

Anyone else had problems exchanging at Staples?

After over 6 hours on the phone with Samsung support (until 2:30 am on SAt.) I was told to take the device back(stock and unrooted) and exchange or get a refund. I called Staples and was assured that they had PLENTY in stock(their words) so I made the 45 minute drive (one way) and upon arriving at the store the cashier was very polite but said she must talk to Mgr. The mgr shows up and says "oh your bringing back another one,(with a huge smirk on his face) I said yes I had tried very hard to resolve the issues with support but could not. The mgr continued to smirk and look at me like "yeah right" He said he must call his district mgr he left and the cashier apologized for him saying"He should not have treated you like that. The mgr returned and still had the same smirk on his face. and said "what do you want to do?" I replied, I will try another one ( I had purchased one a week and a half ago and returned it for refund after 3 days.) He said just a moment and went to the store room and when he came back he said I can exchange it for one in an opened box, I replied NO WAY!!. He then said that they had 2 in the back and both were opened, I said what happend to the plenty I was told on the phone? I then asked for a refund and he whispered something to the girl and smirked again and left. The cashier then all of a sudden had all of this info about stock in the backroom etc. I firmly believe that they did not want to exchange the device and would rather refund and look for others to come in and buy their stock.(opened and unopened) The cashier apologized once again for the mgr's actions. I got the number for corporate and will call tomorrow. Upon reading the coupon it says coupon good only while supplies last. That could mean that all stores were only shipped a very few. I now have no coupon and no device. I had just returned the TF I had been trying and decided to stick with the Gtab and had purchased a Samsung keyboard for it at BB. Anyone else have problems with Staples?
I will not shop at Staples again after the way I was treated when my wife and I went to the store to buy my Samsung Tab, was treated very rudely by a manager, ended up driving 45min to BB the next day to buy my tab. Guess they didn't want my money!!
To make a long story short, website said in stock, went to store, young kid said oh yeah we have some in the back but I can't go back and get them. Asked to speak to a manager, she said it was too much work to get it out of the back and I should buy a Xoom because it has an sd card (funny huh?) I exchanged several intense sentences with the manager and left the store and will not ever go back in one. I pulled our business away from them on our business side as well. Doesn't hurt me any, I order from other places now.
While at BB purchasing the keyboard a man and his girl friend saw the keyboard and asked me how I liked the Gtab. I replied I really liked it but might have to return it for issues. He then stated that he was going to attempt to get BB to honor the coupon for the Gtab. I told him I had tried that at another BB and it was a no go. Well about 2 minutes later the mgr showed up and told him no problem. So perhaps there is a chance I can get the same BB to honor a coupon when I find one. I am going to return the keyboard as it would not function properly(called samsung support and they could not help me get it to be recognized by the Gtab. I will try to purchase the device with coupon.

Thanks!!! I also hit the thanks button !!!!!!
Maybe Staples has caught wind of people trying to return locked GT's to try and find unlocked ones, or at least that store did. Kinda like what I wanted to do but decided not to, not worth the hassle and gas with a perfectly fine GT.
I was going to keep trying to get BB to honor the coupon because I wanted the 32gb version, but my first attempt at my local BB failed. So I decided that was not worth the gas and hassle so yesterday I had the Ghost Armor screen protector put on, no returning now.

I am not questioning your motive or reason, I would do the same in your shoes. Just saying maybe they have had people doing that, I was about to do that, and he just did not believe you. Which is totaly wrong, he should smile and take the tablet back from you and give you a new one.

Just got off phone with CS at Staples and what a waste of time. They acknowledge that the mgr was wrong in his actions but the item is out of stock and they have no idea when it will come back in stock again. When it does I must pay full price or whatever the going rate is at the time. They will not issue a rain check. Just checked and All of the stores in my area(within 50 miles) now show not available at store for the Gtab and the acer Iconia. What a ripoff. They just decided that the coupon (!00) was too good of a deal and just pulled it from the stores.
You could have exchanged it for an open box unit and then waited for some new ones to do another exchange later. Maybe one of the open box units was like new? The coupon is good until 7/30 so you can keep checking local stock.
And what was wrong with your tab? (just curious...)

Wow that is terrible, so sorry to hear that. Maybe try and bring coupon to BB and see if they will honor it, there have been some success stories of that happening. I think the coupon is good till the 30th, maybe you can get lucky at a BB. They should have given you the rain check since you were able to purchase it in the first place and you recevied one that was faulty.
If I were you I would try one of the open box items, maybe there is nothing wrong with one of them. If you still get the 14 day return policy you can test that one out and if something wrong finally return it or possibly exchange that one in 14 days when they may have more in stock?

It had almost constant black screen freezes and youtube videos would not play without FC. Also constant Samsung apps FC. Also it refused to acknowledge the samsung keyboard I purchase for it. I tried all of the fixes mentioned in this forum and also spend over 6 hours with samsung support to no avail.
Interesting stories about Staples customer service. I bought a 16 GB Galaxy Tab from Staples on the first day of the coupon offer, and got an unopened, unlocked unit that I am very happy with.
But, before I said I wanted to buy one, the salesperson would not go to get one out of the back (so I could examine the specs on the box), which I found strange. And, once I said I wanted to buy, he pushed like crazy to get me to buy the protection plan ($230 on a $400 purchase!!), over and over again, which was very annoying.
I would have much preferred to buy at BB if I knew they would have honored the coupon, but I did end up with a well-performing Tab.
never had a problem with staples

UPDATE: I ended up going to BB and was turned down by mgr and then later that day I found out a staples near BB had one in stock (acer iconia and Motorola xoom) upon arriving there it turned out one was display unit(acer iconia) and the price on the Xoom was 599 instead of 499.00.I decided against both of them. Stopped by BB on way home and was considering buying a TF at full price. Just for fun I asked the sales rep to help me and he replied he was busy and then got this other rep to help me. I asked him if he would honor the staple coupon and he said funny you should ask we just got an email from corporate(he showed it to me) and we are authorized to honor the coupon (just the devices listed in email) if the store nearest us has it in stock I knew the closest store did not so just said if you honor it I will buy the Gtab. He then asked me what color -size etc and I replied 16gb white and he pulled one out of the cage. I thought he would call the nearest Staples but he did not. He just rang it up and told the girl at the main counter it was done according to the email just received. When I got home and unboxed it I found that it was UNLOCKED!!!!! I am go grateful. To be able to get a good Grab in the color I preferred from the start and to find it unlocked is just Amazing. Keep trying BB if you have not picked up a tab with the 100.00 coupon yet.

Need Advice-Have a chance to buy a Prime

I possibly, have a chance to buy a Prime tomorrow. It's very possible someone else might buy it before me because I won't have the $ until later morning. Got emailed the pics of it. The seller says to email him when I get the cash.
Of course, I hope that the seller waits for me or that no one gets it before I do. I am concerned about Wifi and I can't return it if it was defective! I would turn it on and test it thoroughly before giving cash.
I doubt that I will get it before another quicker buyer but, Would you girls and guys go for it?
Edit GOT IT!!!
I just downloaded the new software update thingy. Interestingly, Wifi seems to have improved BUT, I will test it some more. Looks good though.
Also, I have a crap cellphone the Samsung intercept, so the videowas atrocious but hopefully, I can upload it from this Prime. The pics are low quality too but will post later!
Gorgeous, super tablet I must say. Very fast. Im sad that my Prime is missing the S hadowgun and Bladeslinger demos! Andy , could go u upload them or where can I get them. The price of getting it early lol! Riptide is amazing!! The water effects!!!! Wow!
Very happy I got it, definitely worth, even with th e wifi issue. Sorry not used to typing on my Prime obviously lol!
I am sorry that I had my private messages off, if anyone wants to PM me, by all means do so. Pics later!

Ya do it. I doubt they actually changed anything in their production to "fix" the wifi "issue". No warranty does suck though... But hell, who knows how long some of us might have to wait for this thing, I'd jump on it if I had the chance!

I'd make sure you get the original receipt for it so if it needs to be exchanged or needs warranty work you're covered. Other than that, assuming you're OK with what you'll be paying for it, go for it.
P.S. - Do the exchange in a restaurant and get there first. Meeting strangers that know you'll have cash with you is something to be wary of.
Do you know where this person got their Prime from? Is it covered by warranty?
If it is not under warranty then I don't think it is worth it cause if it is defective or it becomes defective then you are screwed.
The seller says he obtained it from through a promotion last week at a technology media event in New York. Lucky man.
It's not from a store, so no receipt. I will ask if he has a paper with it. It's a USA Prime, so warranty by Asus

Good advice because I'm going long distance to a big city. I definitely am meeting in a public restaurant IF I even get the thing
Just my 2¢ on the issue: Don't worry about the warranty. Since it's a brand new product, you don't have to prove when you bought it. I sent in my Transformer multiple times to ASUS directly for service, and they never questioned when/where I purchased it...
There are others who will disagree, and of course, everyone's entitled to my opinions
If it was me...
I would only buy it if the box is still sealed. That's just me though, for my own peace of mind. Goodluck and keep us posted.

My point exactly, since you are getting the device right after it's released (before its released actually), so even if they count it to the day it was released you'd still get 1 full year of warranty.
I personally would not do it. It's just like people who charge close to retail for their used Ipads. If I'm paying close to retail, I may as just well purchase it for the retail price so I can have the peace of mind of going back to the store if anything goes wrong. Don't forget that since it's the holidays, most stores have extended return periods. Also, I know we all are eager to get the new prime but 1 or 2 months from now, if you are having problems with the unit, you have to ask yourself was it worth it to buy it a week early or would it have been better to wait a week and have your own receipt and the ability to return it to the store if you needed to.

You could also buy one at a B&M reseller once they're more widely available and return it. Keep the original receipt and return it with a photocopy or do it at BB where they can track the transaction by CC number and you don't need a receipt for returns. Use that to send in should it need repair. And for those with a higher moral standard then mine, it's bending the rules not breaking them.

Good point. I know Costco doesn't. GameStop's not too sophisticated so they may not. I'm not sure about Target and Walmart. BB probably does.
I guess nobody else is curious or maybe they are just classier than me but how much ya payin for it? Good luck too by the way.
He's asking $600 for the 32GB Amethyst Grey. I know it's $100 over retail. Would I be totally stupid? My pre-order was cancelled by Amazon and don't see how I will get one this month if another buyer gets to the overpriced promo Prime first, but who knows.

Honestly, I would pay that right now. After tax and shipping that's what it would cost anyway. My preorder at GS was $544. Go for it. Even if you can handle yourself, take somebody with you for added security anyway. I don't know what it's like in NJ but I'm in Texas and I think I would have a heater in the truck.
I wouldn't do it especially for that price unless you absolutely need to have it now. Then again, I know how it feels to want something so bad that you are willing to pay over MSRP for it. You have to ask yourself, is it worth it to pay a $100 markup on something that may be on shelves in a week. Even if it's released next month, you have to ask yourself if it is worth it to pay more for something that you can't freely return in any store since he isn't giving you a receipt. If you have the money and you need it that bad, then pull the trigger. This thread reminds me of when I paid $750 for the Nokia n95 before it hit stateside. Never again my friend, never again.
Just to reiterate it's not really a $100 markup if you have to pay tax and have it shipped. $544 with tax in Tejas. Add shipping and its much closer to 6 hundo. Plus, waiting an extra month or two is not worth saving $50 - $100; to me anyway.
I would pay for it because at gamestop with overnight shipping charges, mine comes out to $554, but thats just me.
He would get much more on eBay for it. Grab the chance while you have it.

[Q] Best Buy return policy

I was wondering if best buy will make me pay a restocking fee for returning my transformer. I know it says i can return or exchange it within 14 days but is that only if it is unopened? Or if i fond that it is damaged or has something wrong with it (the only reasons i would return it) would i be able to return it anyways? Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.
Yes you can return it no questions asked within 14 days. Thanks to the people who replied!
There are no more restocking fees at Best Buy except for Special Orders.

I think I might need to return mine.. the right side edge moves 1/20 of a mm (guesstimate) when pressed down yet no other side moves.. Maybe the glue is coming undone
Returned mine
I received my TFP Dec 28. Called in for RMA number on Dec 29 because of GPS issues, held off sending it back, waiting for XDA wisdom to find a workaround. Then Asus pulled the spec, which I find offensive.
So I called Best Buy back to clarify and confirmed refund when they receive RMA'd unit. Full refund, credited back to card after a few days. So, did the factory reset, cleaned it and put it back in and sent it off via UPS.
Got caught up in the bleeding edge, learned a little.

Why didn't you just return to a store? Seems like it would be easier...
My bigger questions are: did they refund shipping, and are they honoring their holiday return policy for tablets?
Oh, and when does the return period start, when it's ordered or when it's received? I'd have to imagine when it's received, because a week can be lost in shipping, but I'm not positive either way.

Not sure when the return period starts, I assume when delivered.
As to shipping, I opted for express shipping, targeted by them for 12.27, negotiated a discount to $10 for that shipping since I was one of the crew who'd originally ordered champagne and had to convert on 12/23. But they didn't deliver until 12/28, so I called back and got refund on shipping, separately from RMA. So shipping in my case was ultimately free, and yes/no is the answer to your question, depending on whether you're a glass half full/empty kind of person. ;-)
As for returning it to brick and mortar store, could have, but more driving in my case. Didn't want an exchange anyhow. I'm going to wait for ICS tablets with a customer use reputation now.

It says on the link posted it is upon receipt of the product is when the return period starts. After all of the drama regarding what Asus has done with the website and customer service responses, I will more than likely return mine and either get a g tab or wait to see if later production models eliminate the issues.

Gonna return mine to Best Buy tomorrow, a little bit of light bleed but mainly because of the absolutely horrendous customer service experience I had with them. Also, the 64-GB version I pre-ordered from Tiger Direct is finally on its way, with the dock!

I received an email to take a survey after one of my many phone calls with them. Aside from my excellent experience with the Reward Zone, I gave them a big FAIL on the rest of the survey. As a "valued customer", I've now been invited to speak to someone about my experience. I plan on calling next week. My biggest problem was the complete lack of communication to the CSRs and Supervisors about what we were told via email were our options for replacement ordering the champagne.
Anyway..... The items purchased from BB during the holidays fell under their extended holiday return policy. The its been posted, and it's something like 30days after delivery, tablets are not a excluded, and premium silver members get an additional 14 days

Free nexus 10!?

I ordered a Nexus 10 and decided I did not want it and cancelled my order. But for some reason it still shipped to me and the charge was refunded.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Ship it back. Anything else is theft, despite their mistake.
But I predict a bunch of rationalizations coming for why you should keep it. I mean, it's Google and Samsung, they're big companies. They won't miss it...
Up to you... there is a paper trail that leads to you so if not now it may bite you in the @ss later. I would rather return and save you the problems down the road. Its the right thing to do

If you let them know, I wouldn't be surprised if they let you keep it.

If they send you a return shipping label and box yes.
If they don't , I wouldn't pay to ship it back and then it is FREE!
when the kindle fire launched a friend got two when she had pre-ordered and paid for only one. She was honest and she sent it back as instructed with a provided shipping label. The next month she noticed on her CC statement they had refunded her money when she sent back the extra. She actually called in about it again and the rep just told her to keep it because he wasn't sure how to charge her without shipping another one. Result = free Kindle Fire.

That's what I thought. They screwed up and if they want me to spend $20 to send it back then I think I will keep it.
If they spot the mistake, they will charge you. They keep your CC on record. If they don't charge you, they will remotely deactivate the device, making it useless.
Ethically you should return it.
But legally you do not have to as far as I understand. If you canceled the order before they shipped ( up to them to enforce) then it is their problem. Nor can they charge anything on your card with out your authorization. They do not have your permission to charge your card at this point.
How ever if you do not contact them and try to work it out I can say with certainty that would make you a **** head. Don't be a **** head.
If you're okay with not having warranty of any kind, sure. Hope nothing goes wrong with your stolen device.
I for one, surely, won't help you.

A bit sanctimonious, no? I can't count the number of stories I've read on XDA where people were shipped incorrect, defective, or damaged goods by a reseller or accused of "customer induced damage" by a manufacturer's repair department and wrongly told to go pound sand for one reason or another. It's not a lily white world we live in.
OP, if it were me I'd keep it but would be prepared to pay for it if asked leaving it up to powers greater than myself to decide if I was truly intended to get a "Free nexus 10."
I would wait to see if they end up "fixing" it themselves first, before thinking to call them about this mistake. If they ask you to pay for shipping, then I would say no way.
I got a "Free" Samsung galaxy s3 from a mistake Verizon made, but that's not the same and well they ware jerks.( 10+ call's, 3 "tickets and month's of waiting, so they had it coming.)
Hope google is nice and lets you have it for free.
P.S Google can you ship my n4 as well or should I say UPS, because they made the "shipping label" days ago with no update.
Keep it, don't resell it, and do your best to advertise how google is awesome for giving you a free tablet. Chances are your publicity will cause enuogh sales to offset the cost to google and samsung. Win Win
Give it to me, I can handle the burden on my conscious.
If sounds strange that Google could process a refund this quickly. As just about everyone else that has done a return/refund with Google has usually needed to wait 2 or 3 weeks to it.
I'm wondering if that wasn't possibly just the hold on your card finally going away and they haven't charged you yet. I don't think I saw the charge show up for my Nexus 4 until the day after I got my phone.
Another possibility is Google is just doing refunds immediately but still expecting you to return the tablet within 14 or 21 days and will simply charge you again if it's not received.

Keep it. I ordered one on launch day and still don't have a tracking #. After daily phone calls and emails I just deal with a lot of people who apparently have no idea what is going on.
The pending charge was a check to see if the funds were available. Your charge will appear in a day or 2 relax its not theft lol. Picked up my nexus yesterday from UPS and the charge hit today after being refunded just like you are explaining

[Q] Going to try to return my ME7 device...

I got my Galaxy S4 about 10 days ago and now as the outlook on unlocking the ME7 firmware is looking bleak, I'm inclined to see if I can get a return to Verizon on my 30 day warranty to hope I get a device with the original firmware. I had upgraded to the ME7 OTA shortly after I got it... I didn't really think twice about it when I was doing it and ended up regretting it that very night when I checked XDA for the first time about my new phone.
So I'm posting to ask for some opinions and ideas about this process... I assume I'm going to have to have some good excuse for the exchange and I'm sure I'm going to have to incur at least the $35.00 restocking fee. So, does anyone with experience with Verizon know the process well? What kind of fees am I looking at? It is worth it to attempt this? Does anyone have any ideas for reasons to tell them for the exchange? I want to just tell them that I updated system software and I'm unsatisfied with the responsiveness of the device after I did this and I'd like to exchange it, but I'm not sure if that'd be good enough for them. What do you all think?
Thanks.
EDIT: By the way, I didn't buy any insurance, if that matters.
If you are under 14 days you can exchange for another phone for $35 or return completely. No excuse needed. You can be unsatisfied changed your mind whatever. Doesn't matter. So yes your reason of not being satisfied is good enough.
Just tell them im either returning it or you can swap it with a new phone. . Either way I'm not keeping this phone. . Nothing wrong with it I just want an older firmware. . Under 14 days your good.
I was in the exact same boat you were in about two weeks ago. I brought my phone in and claimed that I wanted to exchange it for a white version (I had the black one). The sales rep who was doing the exchange was the same guy who sold it to me, (whom I had told of my plans to root it and flash CM10 onto it), and asked if that was really the reason why I wanted to exchange it. I told him that the phone had downloaded ME7, and I was hoping to get a new phone with MDK on it. He brought out another black S4 to me, and charged me nothing. He put it in the system as a failed update. Good guy saved the day!
My take: Go in, tell them your phone updated itself without prompting you, and you'd like a new phone. Don't mention anything about rooting/bootloaders, and if they ask for a better reason, ask to switch to a different color. Chances are you'll end up footing the $35 restocking fee.
Thanks, guys.
I went into a Verizon store today to try to get the exchange and got hassled... the guy insisted that there must be something wrong with the phone in order to exchange the device for an identical model or they would have to charge me the full, unsubsidized price. Of course, if I wanted to get the same phone with the other color it would only cost a restocking fee... go figure. I went on a rant about how that made no sense and that I wouldn't sit there trying to make it crash in front of them because it could take hours. He told me it was impossible, but I could call the Verizon help line and if they think that's a sufficient reason maybe they'd do the exchange.
So I went home, called the help line, got a guy in a minute and five minutes after that they are shipping my replacement device at absolutely no cost. No restocking fee or anything as he said it was a swap-out and the restocking fee doesn't apply. Of course, my only worry is with what the guy at the store said where they might charge me the full price if they find nothing wrong with it. However, the guy on the phone didn't make any mention of that possibility and I told him no lies... I said I updated system software and the phone has been much less stable, it crashed a few times (which is true), and I got advice from others stating they had similar issues with the new system software and that they got a replacement from Verizon. All that considered, is there any chance they might charge my account?
Anyway, I'm hoping they won't and I'm happy for the moment because I'm one step closer to getting a custom rom on my new phone. Hopefully... I still wouldn't know what to do if they actually send me a new device with ME7 on it. Maybe I shouldn't count my chickens until it arrives. I guess I'll know by the weekend if I'm a happy camper or not.
Thanks again for the advice.
Theyre probably starting to catch on with all the returns theyve been having.
