I busted him first!! LOL
Completely everything i seen from him is an OBVIOUS FAKE Launcher
Anyway porting windows is possible however if its an ARM compiled Windows only.
Only released ARM Windows is Windows Embedded Compact 7(dumbed down version, Based on Windows 7), can be ported and im guessing that if ace even has a PC like BIOS it's in the CLOSED SOURCE, Windows heavily depends on BIOS.
The next thing is the kernel that needs to be adopted to coopers hardware in the source code(Yes the kernel source is public) of EC7 Kernel
Doing all that is an incredible waste of time and im guessing it can take an about an year or more to get it somewhat stable
Another way to run Windows IN Android is QEMU or BOCHS they are emulators that emulate software code as x86 hardware, Because this is only a simulation its not possible to achieve usable performance on our phone SLOW CPU not even when running Win95 or Win98 or ME or 2000(Have used both emus if an OS even boots it gives a random BSOD or crashes the whole phone)
And Reverse engineering any NT Based Windows wold probably take at least 5 years
Cloning Windows 20 years(ReactorOS)

Omg! Don't be fooled... He did exactly what I said and is running a remote desktop client! Notice the Aero effects he forgot to turn off? Still he is not showing a boot process or any system info, or anything to in fact prove he accomplished the impossible except a fuzzy video that won't stop moving enough to see clearly the system info of the PC he is remotely connected to in the bottom left corner of the window he opens. Now he is refusing more proof. This is what he wanted exactly. To pretend he had something awesome and us flamers here ruined it. He wants to drag on that thread a while ago where all the dev's were leaving cuz of noobs.

We can install android os in windows phone then why not windows phone os to android??
And I think mini pro also meet the minimum requirements of windows phone 7 os . .

Maybe I'm wrong but try to think about the partitions and the language like:
For the same reason that you can run java apps on Windows, you can run Android on Windows Phone(Please correct me if I'm wrong)
And the partitions in android are spread all over, system, data, cache... On windows it's one partition(Please correct me ), like a HDD
This is what i think, I have no experience with WP
I mean to say running windows phone OS from boot not by using emulator
HTC HD2 is an example for it u can google it.....
Is an interesting question. According to this wikipedia page on snapdragon "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)" Nokia Lumia 700 and 800 both us the same MSM8255 soc as the SK17
Would it be more of a problem of getting it to boot in the first place (bootloader). Not that I would have a clue where to start but "when there's a will there's a way, and there's always an f'ing way!"
Yes my friend I knew about hardware thats the reason I was asking the question......
It is possible.....
Sent from my SK17i
Windows is closed-source, so, unlike Android you cant get it freely, install it and mod it. Only feasible way (IMO) would be for someone to crack it and install it on device with the same hardware platform as W7 phone
i hope too, maybe not windows 7, windows 8 is better for mobile :good:
Windows mobile 8 cannot be installed on our phones as basic requirement is a multicore processors

I didn't know this but I am sure that if somebody dose leak source or if it gets hacked this could be over come. Although MS use this as a stipulation for OME's to meet probable not an actual restriction on software side.

no.
You better use "Launcher 7" by play store.
I had my hands on both WP7 and iPhone... and i cant believe anyone in their right mind would dare to compare them to Android... Android is far superior in oh so many ways... But, unlike iPhone, i think there may yet be hope for WP8 (closed-source but not for close-minded folk like iPhone) (i now expect to be stoned by apple fanboys, since i dared to offend their perfect devices xD)
Speaking of porting WP7 to Android device, i dont think that would be legal, so dont expect to see it on these forums... But another question comes to mind is, why would you even do that ? Even if you're ex-WP7 users, give android a chance, i'm sure you'll like it once you get to know it
To give android chance thats the reason I bought mini pro
But as we can apple has lost there visionary. . .
iOS is not that much interesting now. . .
Steve jobs was such a great visionary. . .
Let me tell u guys a story that I read from his biography
Person came to him and shows iPod to him and told him that this is the smallest I can make. . .
Steve jobs simply throw that iPod in water and told him u can see the bubbles coming out of iPod that means it can be made smaller. . . . .
And regarding windows phone 8 they are future after 5 yrs windows going to be on top

Runnin the pro with media center. Its ok. Nothin special. It was cool for 10 minutes after i installed it.
You either love it or hate it.
I'm using it now, and at first when the developer preview came out, I absolutely hated it.
The more and more that I use it, I started liking it.
I've been using it since it came out officially, and it's pretty good.
As long as your laptop/computer manufacturer puts out the proper drivers for Windows 8, it's great.
Acer released the trackpad driver for W8 for my laptop and I love the quick shortcuts. (Swipe from left to change Apps, Swipe from top to show quick options, swipe from right to get sidebar.)
It's pretty nice, although, I wish I had a touchscreen.
Sorry for the really long post, but if you have questions about it, I'm willing to answer them. Been using it for a long time..
I tried it, hated it. Microsoft needs to stop trying to shove a touchscreen OS onto my desktop.
It's a great tablet interface but very very terrible for a mouse and keyboard.
If Microsoft would have just added an option to disable metro they would have avoided a lot of the negative press and I would be all over it.

I paid the money for it. It's just Windows 7 with a better task manager and file transfer dialogs. No complaints here.
I still prefer linux. I just have to have a Windows box for work related stuff. I don't understand everyone's complaints about the new start menu. I hardly use it.
I use it at work. Gets annoying at times where some things are hidden a little more than before, otherwise it is smooth and looks very nice even on an old Dell tower.

Who uses screensavers anymore? Monitors turn off now and save more power that way.
But you're right. They are looking tired. Flying Windows ftw.
I go from my Pad to my laptop and keep hitting the screen, lol
New touchscreen would be nice.
But I'm tired of buying new expensive software every time a new OS came out. Like MS Office Pro 2010(mainly now only for Word and Outlook) and Quick Books Pro 2010, MS Expressions, Photoshop CS, etc. Almost two large not $15.
I'm not comfortable with backwards compatibility issues. And the potential of any learning curve into a new OS.
I've been using it for a while on ma laptop, since it was available on MSDN. The biggest flood is lack of Start menu. Start8 from startdock was pretty handy. One irritating thing, Iron browser could be set as default browser, at least not in 100%, but maybe that's problem of browser it self. Didn't try with other browsers. I found it more irritating than helpful.
Eventually I've rollback to Windows 7, I had some software comparability issues that couldn't be workaround.

Yep I'm actually thinking of going back... you would think that when they release the newest version they should have most of the kinks ironed out, but that's just not so. I have a lot of programs force closing left & right, and repeatedly do so at completely random times. Also got a couple BSODs the other day. But I really like the new interface so is a tough decision. I use a 120 gig SSD as my boot drive, so running 2 operating systems side by side is out of the question...

Everyone is pissed off about the lack of start menu but in my opinion if you are using W8 on a desktop and you don't have a tochscreen monitor you will not enjoy the W8...just saying
I purchased a Acer tablet W500 on Walmart.com for $350 came with Windows 7 I upgraded to Windows 8 for $14.99 I could not be happier. Windows 8 is amazing. Definitely built for touch screen it's like having an iPad and a full PC all in one for a lot cheaper in price! I recommend installing Windows 8 clean install with a USB flash drive installs in less than 10 minutes

[ROM/WIP] Android 4.1 Jellybean (AOSP) for Ace 2

Howdy.
I'm back to Android development (as mentioned on Twitter).
Let this thread be here, while I work on something that is worth showing you.
Do I care for the fact that Samsung wants to release 4.1 by themselves? Nope.
I'm sick of running stock 2.3 firmware. It's virtually unusable.
Now enlighten me where I can get original digitizer for Ace 2. Let's say I have a defected unit.
Glass cracked just from putting it on the table (gently)... And then 5 days later again, after doing the same thing.
Might catch me here often: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/coding-rant
This is a part of Sakura AOSP Project.

Ralph Smeets said:
While Android is opensource, not everything needs to be opensource. If a company doesn't want to publisch the board-support-package, they don't have to. At that point, you have to write this bsp yourself.... Which can only be done by reseverse engineering. A company like ST Ericsson develops a chipset. A team of more then 10 people is then involved to port Android to this chipset. They look for clients and to every client they dedicate a special team that helps the client (Samsung in this case, but also Sony) to adopt this port to their needs and their platform. The client then ports their layer (Touchwiz for Samsung) to the new platfrom. So you're looking at maybee 30 people involved to get Android up, running and bug-free on a one specific phone..... People who get payed to do this at work. People who will get paid extra time if needed. People who do this as a day job.
Now, let's get back to XDA. We're looking here at one to two active developers who do the porting in their spare time. They are not getting paid for it. They just do it for the trill, so let's stop asking them for timelines or updates. Let's keep it a fun thing for them to do. If not.... Wel... if it's not fun anymore for them to share their work.... they will simple stop sharing and they have all the rights in the world to stop sharing!
bangz0r, keep up the good work

I'd rather use Windows as my desktop OS at home rather than garbage such as Ubuntu. By far, Ubuntu is the worst Linux distribution after openSUSE and Mandriva.
Well, I have a dedicated server set-up remotely that's running Debian 6.
Like I said, I'd build on my Mac but MacPorts isn't cooperating.
http://f.o323.com/23U8 (huge image)
Did try to build with standard setup on Mac, didn't work well. Spit out dozens of issues.
That's sort of bad because building is really fast on i7. :/
EDIT:
If it's really worth any trouble and this thing really fires up as intended, then I will set a git repo up.
...If it's not, I'll dispose of this phone and get Xperia S.
Good luck mate, I hope it works.. Would be a great step for our phone

Regarding broken digitalizer:

You can always buy digitalizer from here:

If you will change it youself, can you make some photos from opened I8160. I would like to see what kind of Proximity sensor they've put in Ace2. I think there is light sensor inside, but i just want to be 100% sure. Also it will be helpfull for DYI purposes.

Wrong. Ubuntu Phone has the same codebase as Ubuntu on the Cloud, Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu on the Nexus 7 etc. That's the whole point. There is just one Operarting System. You can dock any phone for best experience 2 GB RAM and a quad-core ARM CPU is simply recommended.
They demoed the desktop convergence on a phone with the same hardware as the Galaxy Nexus long ago.
I don't really know why they are. It sounds pretty cool at first, but I usually don't bring a desktop monitor around with me, and I do most of my work on my desktop. I don't want 2 full desktop computers.. I think it causes two problems instead of eliminating one.

They've shoved Linux on phones before there's nothing new about it.

I can understand these ideas for the consumer world, but the business world is becoming more and more demanding of this type of technology. Microsoft built W8 and now CIO's can look more closely at mobile/byod options. Canonical just slam-dunked their way into that arena with the Ubuntu phone.
How many iOS or Android data centers have you ever heard of? That would be news to me! The business world is run by MS or some form of Linux. I've seen Red Hat, Suse, and Ubuntu. . . add Ubuntu for phones and now you have the ability to narrow the number of systems management panes to a level competing directly with MS.
I think this rocks!

I agree.. and I think that it sounds like a fun concept, too. But how many times have you lost your phone/had it stolen?
Now compare that to how many times you lost your work computer. I don't want to lose all my work. You know what fixes that? Something we call "Syncing", yet canonical thinks it's the very thing that needs to be "solved" yet it's still unavoidable.. Also, most companies lock their computers down to prevent misuse. It would be pretty hard to lock down your phone as many exploits/hacks can unlock a boot loader
and you could flash a new OS onto it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But then again, I've never really been fond of Ubuntu since unity, it's changed them.. So maybe I'm just biased.

Personally, I keep my phone on my person 24/7. Never lost it, and the one time I had a phone stolen it was because I left it in my jacket but took it off. If you keep it in either your pocket or your hands, then there's no way you can lose it.
As for locking the phone down, who's to say you can't lock a phone down as securely as a computer? It's not like you can't plug computers into other devices as well. It's not that phones can't be as secure as a computer, it's just that they generally aren't. That's not to say that no-one could come in and fix that.

Ubuntu On & Android Off?

I've got an Android phone sitting around in a drawer. If that phone meets the minimum specs is it possible to remove Android completely and just run Ubuntu on the phone?

Ah. Well, I couldn't find any conversations about removing Android, just running Ubuntu over it.
U won't people just assume u know Ubuntu is it's own operating system not a Android customization meaning if u install it android will be gone unless dual booting is a possiblity canonical have came out with their own OS it is and simply out of their open source that they went out of there way to include support for android kernels but this is it's own OS like ios or android or windows is it's own there will be phones launching with Ubuntu

I may be speaking out of a**, but the device would run ubuntu, and not a virtual box app, like the one on google play?
Right?

Ubuntu Phone is a full Android replacement. Will be out for the Galaxy Nexus late february. That's it.
Anything that goes beyond that you have to hope that the community ports it.

Thank you. That was my question.
Can someone tell me Ubuntu is an operating system or ROM??
I am confused
Sent from Sending thing
:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:MG first of all a rom is a operating system
Second of all we just said like 5 times Ubuntu is its own operating system it just simply can be installed on android phones just like placing Linux on a PC there will be phones designed from beginning to end to run Ubuntu

Do you know if one could build a Phone OS that behaves just like a PC in the sense that you don't have to flash anything from a recovery system for updates you just install them like you do on Linux? Maybe with the right partitions and privileges? So that we basically have a rolling release phone that installs core components through a package manager with root privileges. On Arch Linux I never have to reboot unless I want to load a newly installed kernel or maybe restart X to load the new nvidia driver modul.

Almost certainly that will be the way Ubuntu phone will work. Slightly less certainly, Ubuntu will include a standard Linux kernel configurable/compilable on the phone (better on the desktop )
As a Note II user concerned with privacy and security, I can't wait to replace this information-leaky "Android OS" (kernel, ROM, system/user apps) with a functional Linux alternative.
Research...

Duster, just go to ubuntu.com and read/watch videos. Highly recommend you read about advantages/disadvantages of Linux OS, install Linux and play around with it on your PC. I recommend Ubuntu's version for anyone new to Linux. See if it is something you can work with before even thinking of installing on your phone. I for one, LOVE Ubuntu for many reasons described in many forums all over the interwebs. I also enjoy Linux in general and playing around with it's many variations. I am one of those anti-mac/microsoft people though, so don't take my word for it. Research and develop your own opinions... I have stated this not to be a smart-a$$, but based on your question it sounds like you have never heard of Ubuntu. Please correct me if I am wrong.
wondering it would be like having dual OS on my phone.. just like having seven n ubuntu on my old laptop.. seems hardware requirement for ubuntu phone OS as minimum as nexus.. (imo)
