Did anybody else make the switch to it? For 15 dollars, it's not a bad idea.

Runnin the pro with media center. Its ok. Nothin special. It was cool for 10 minutes after i installed it.

You either love it or hate it.
I'm using it now, and at first when the developer preview came out, I absolutely hated it.
The more and more that I use it, I started liking it.
I've been using it since it came out officially, and it's pretty good.
As long as your laptop/computer manufacturer puts out the proper drivers for Windows 8, it's great.
Acer released the trackpad driver for W8 for my laptop and I love the quick shortcuts. (Swipe from left to change Apps, Swipe from top to show quick options, swipe from right to get sidebar.)
It's pretty nice, although, I wish I had a touchscreen.
Sorry for the really long post, but if you have questions about it, I'm willing to answer them. Been using it for a long time..

I tried it, hated it. Microsoft needs to stop trying to shove a touchscreen OS onto my desktop.
It's a great tablet interface but very very terrible for a mouse and keyboard.
If Microsoft would have just added an option to disable metro they would have avoided a lot of the negative press and I would be all over it.

I paid the money for it. It's just Windows 7 with a better task manager and file transfer dialogs. No complaints here.
I still prefer linux. I just have to have a Windows box for work related stuff. I don't understand everyone's complaints about the new start menu. I hardly use it.

I use it at work. Gets annoying at times where some things are hidden a little more than before, otherwise it is smooth and looks very nice even on an old Dell tower.

Who uses screensavers anymore? Monitors turn off now and save more power that way.
But you're right. They are looking tired. Flying Windows ftw.

I go from my Pad to my laptop and keep hitting the screen, lol
New touchscreen would be nice.
But I'm tired of buying new expensive software every time a new OS came out. Like MS Office Pro 2010(mainly now only for Word and Outlook) and Quick Books Pro 2010, MS Expressions, Photoshop CS, etc. Almost two large not $15.
I'm not comfortable with backwards compatibility issues. And the potential of any learning curve into a new OS.

I've been using it for a while on ma laptop, since it was available on MSDN. The biggest flood is lack of Start menu. Start8 from startdock was pretty handy. One irritating thing, Iron browser could be set as default browser, at least not in 100%, but maybe that's problem of browser it self. Didn't try with other browsers. I found it more irritating than helpful.
Eventually I've rollback to Windows 7, I had some software comparability issues that couldn't be workaround.

Yep I'm actually thinking of going back... you would think that when they release the newest version they should have most of the kinks ironed out, but that's just not so. I have a lot of programs force closing left & right, and repeatedly do so at completely random times. Also got a couple BSODs the other day. But I really like the new interface so is a tough decision. I use a 120 gig SSD as my boot drive, so running 2 operating systems side by side is out of the question...

Everyone is pissed off about the lack of start menu but in my opinion if you are using W8 on a desktop and you don't have a tochscreen monitor you will not enjoy the W8...just saying

I purchased a Acer tablet W500 on Walmart.com for $350 came with Windows 7 I upgraded to Windows 8 for $14.99 I could not be happier. Windows 8 is amazing. Definitely built for touch screen it's like having an iPad and a full PC all in one for a lot cheaper in price! I recommend installing Windows 8 clean install with a USB flash drive installs in less than 10 minutes

[APP] SPB Mobile Shell 5.0 beta, running on my vibrant, screenshots

PLEASE DONT ASK ME TO POST .APK....IT WILL BE CONSIDERED WAREZ
so ive been waiting for a while to get my hands on this and i finally did. just wanted to share with everyone that it does work on our device. first installation is really buggy, but upon reboot, it seems to be much smoother. does slow down other home replacements while its running though.
the interface is nice, as to be expected. ive only been using it for about ten minutes. it lacks a lot of features that the popular launchers do. my biggest complaint is that there is no way to delete a screen as is, the screen will only dlete once youve manually removed all shortcuts/widgets from it. this proves really annoying because when you first load the app it loads alllllll your apps onto screens. so mine loaded 13+ screens full of icons the first time. BUT THERES NO LAUNCHER DRAWER!!! so i have to figure how to have quick access to all my apps without having 20 damn screens
ill update this OP as i experiment more, and more screenshots when i find cool things. possibly a video (shootme videos come out really laggy)

sorry big guy, but no other homereplacement ive used has ever lagged. period. my phone is always butter.
if you are referring to the number of screens that it creates. well obviously its because of how many apps i have. but it shouldnt be that way. it should be like any other launcher, with an app drawer. this isnt the iphone.

I have the beta as well, had to sign a contract not to share the .apk, screens, or even details of the app. These guy's are serious about this shell, I'm in another beta of theirs that I didn't even sign up for, and there wasn't nearly as much effort to keep that one as confidential. Just don't want your buddy gettin in trouble. I have yet to submit a review with suggestions, but I plan on doing that soon. This launcher has a lot of potential, but like you said it's very lacking in a lot of areas. It's especially a pain if you have a lot of apps. Just keep in mind, it is an early beta. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd be happy to include them in my review.

Not yet
So far I'm still enjoying it, I'm glad I didn't get a 7" tablet.
I still enjoy my PC more. Yesterday I installed Win8 on my laptop, for a pre beta it runs well. Hope we can install in the future on the TouchPad.
There's always a solution...develop some apps. This is XDA after all, not noobcentral.com
Not me, just got ubuntu on my tp and oced it to 1.728 with all performance patches installed. Mobile Flash games run FLAWLESSY on the browser. m.kongregate.com
What did everyone expect when buying it? With everyone getting "tired" of things so fast, its no wonder companies play with us the way they do. They know with the new "oooh its shiny!" Loads of cash will be but down no matter what unfished state its in at launch. I like my TP for what I use it for, tweaked it and its perfectly adequate. Then again I didn't get it expecting it to be an ipad or Galaxy tab. WebOS has potential still and the fact that they embraced their homebrew community from the git go is testament in my eyes. Patience (yeah, these days that's a laugh)

No. The ones who are tired of webos have surveyed the landscape and realize that there is nothing much to delve deeper into. When an os doesn't have a fully functional browser or ereader, no amount of delving is going to change this. Also, some of us who are tired of it bought it to run android, and don't feel like wasting time trying to fix such a broken os. When you have to edit code to get network shares mounted and even then have to pay 8 dollars for an app that will play videos, its not worth my time when my android phone and ipad does it flawlessly and free.

Hah thanks for the laugh xD
Anyway, I should have worded that differently: "Have you flashed a ROM that helps with the multitasking issue".
Most of them do, but if you don't want to flash a ROM some people reported that if you change the setting within developer options to 'At most 4 processes' for the background process limit it helps alleviate this issue.
This is by far my biggest problem with this phone. From what I've heard, stock ICS doesn't have the same issue.
Yeah, it pisses me off when I scroll through a list and go out of the window, ONLY to have that damn list reload back to the first item.
There HAS to be a way to get rid of that permanently if stock ICS phones don't have this problem?
Yeah, the multitasking is the only issue I have with this phone. Reminds me of the fail WP7 has with multitasking :/
Yeah a lot of the issues with this phone can only be alleviated through rooting it and flashing a custom rom. As I stated in another thread with my opinions of this phone and the pros/cons, this phone requires the user to root it in order to have a pleasurable experience.

Which is really disappointing. We shouldn't have to root in order to get things like this to work properly. If HTC is going to place a button dedicated to a specific function on their phones, you'd think that function would actually work.

No one is arguing against it, we are merely providing solutions to the problem. Furthermore, if we want to nitpick the button isn't a 'multitasking' one, it simply brings up a recent apps list. That being said I do hope HTC fixes this. It seems to affect all the Sense 4.0 phones. I know the One X has this problem by simply looking at their forum and from what I tested the One S at T-Mobile while helping my parents get a new phone, it seems that the S also has the same problem.
Rooting and flashing roms hasn't fixed my multitasking issues..I think its a deeper sense issue..I've manually adjusted min free settings with no luck..so Im assuming that its Kernel related buried deep..its my only gripe with this otherwise perfect device..and some people actually like its killing of apps..although it doesn't seem to free up any extra ram ...edit - hasn't the issue been resolved with the att hox with an ota? I thought I saw that somewhere
Yep rooted and romed. I dont want to say which one because u don't think it matters. Non of it would bother me so much if my new phone wasn't slower than my old one. Kinda sucks to have full signal but can't load a Page, stick it in my pocket it becomes a hand warmer and the battery is dead next time I use it.

The worst is when I play Sega's Sonic Adventure app or open up stumble upon and every single time I go back to the home screen, sense has to reload. I've never experienced that with my Xoom.
Are the ROMs effective at fixing the multitasking issue? That, ps3 bluetooth, and otg support would be the only major reasons I'd root my phone (maybe titanium backup too for contingency). I'm not root shy, my OG EVO was rooted two weeks after I got it, but, in the long run, everything seems more consistent when running completely stock, and I can pretty much find an app for everything I need.
Also, do you guys think that if we send in enough complaints that HTC would get its act together for the jelly bean update?

Return it, get a Gnex on Verizon. Problem solved.
I'll also have to agree that rooting and. A custom rom still don't do much to alleviate the issue. Chrome still reloads every time I come back. It's baffling because we can blame it on sense, but sense has ALWAYS been bloated, but the evos before this didn't have such an issue. I don't find sense 4 very bloated at all actually. When sense 4 was ported over to the Sensation, it didn't have this multitasking issue, which is leading me to believe that there will be a fix soon for it.

100% Satisfied After Installing CM9, Can't Imagine Upgrading To Note 2 Anytime Soon

Installed the official CM9 two nights ago and I really can't find anything more than nitpicking at this point. Sure the home screen transition is still not quite as smooth as my wife's iPhone 4, but it is smooth enough and all the apps/games I have tried are fast enough, battery life is also incredible as I got over 4 hours screen time on wifi for my first full charge.
I have compared my device against Galaxy S3 and HTC One X, and there is no question the performance difference at this point is not worth the extra screen size to me. It is really amazing what a cohesive (no touchwiz dialer + ICS task manager mesh mash, CM9 is completely refined!) and bloat free experience CM9 is. Even the official ICS ROM after de-bloating still has too many Samsung applications for my taste.
More importantly, mobile phone applications are not desktop programs, you are not going to run Photoshop or Visual Studio on your Galaxy Note, you are not likely to play Crisis. I really believe dual core for mobile phone is very very similar to core 2 duo on desktops, that once you reach a certain level of performance, you just don't need any more upgrades. My wife and I both have 5 year old core 2 duo's and with a very modest Nvidia 9600 GT, I can still play most if not all of the mainstream games. Sure I can't play them at highest graphic details, but I can still enjoy Skyrim or Diablo 3.
I think the exact scenario is happening to mobile devices. All the top apps/games have to cater to the lowest common denominator, unless you are super hardcore, you will be satisfied. In the past people had to upgrade for performance, but I don't think it is the case anymore. I will wait out the full two year contract and pick up Note 2 when it is on sale for a discount, unless there is a hardware failure. And I think manufacturers will also see the same problem, that it will be harder and harder to get existing users to upgrade.
A big thank you to the developers! The Cyanogen team is amazing!
Im gonna be flashing tomorrow cm9 cant wait

Ya, cm has always been nice. They usually have that extra bit of polish and professionalism. Aokp is decent too.
As far as buying new devices, there will always be people wanting to upgrade to the latest and greatest even if what they have is still completely adequate. Being an EE technology major, I'm one of those people who will buy new stuff just because I love technology. And Moore's law says it will keep getting better lol. If I can ever get a fng job, I'll definitely buy the note 2 if its awesome enough.
Everyone has computers, but most people never upgrade them to keep up with the times, they wait til they've crippled it after a few years then buy a new one. I've gotten so many nice computers that were "broken" from people, only to open them up, clean them out, reinstall whatever os I need and have it be perfectly fine for years. Usually just a fan or seating issue with some hardware.
Sidetracked, sorry.

I also fell in love with my device again. It is much faster with CM9 and I don't need anything more. The OC kernel makes it fly. I can't make it lag. Transitions are buttery smooth. I can't wait until JB or CM10. A whole new device with touchwiz gone. Don't even miss the s pen

What's your brightness level on?
After debloating and installing trebuchet launcher, I think stock runs just as well as cm9

Upgraded last night after a clean wipe. I like it save for I cannot uninstall ROM manager, and I can't run soft keys. Other than that you couldn't pay me to keep it. I'll be moving to the iPhone 5 and the Note 2 as fast as I can. I absolutely despise the old style hard keys. They are a crime against humanity and must be removed in the Note 2. Full screen or death!!
where is official cm9?

I saw this thread regarding CM9, but it looks like they only have beta-ish nightlies available. Haven't tried them myself.
I installed h0tw1r3's CM9 based ROM (here) and it is really beautiful.
I wanted to add that I completely agree with OP. This is my first Android phone, and I knew the power of custom ROM's in the past from using Windows Mobile 5/6. I tried several that were all pretty nice, but coming across the CM9 ROM, I feel like it really lives up to the hype. Gorgeous, polished, fast as hell!
Thanks to CM team and XDA, you guys rock.
Yeah I was under the impression that there was nothing official yet.

I am always amazed at how CM9 has the extra little touches that make a phone really work optimally like wake on volume, put screen to sleep[in notification pull down], included toggles, etc. For some reason unknown to me other ROM developers never include most of these but IMHO they make the Note really useful.
So why is there nothing on their website if this is official? Not a final release?
Also, does the cm team run on donations just like must devs?

I think CM9 is not ready for prime time on the note. Checking the use internal SD in the storage setting forces it into a boot loop. Definely will have to wait until fixed. This is for the 7-16 nightly.
I love cm9 too.. Very fast and smooth no lag only had one little bump so far.. I run cm9 on my note and my galaxy tab 2
I would love to use cm9 but im an avid user of bell mobile tv. If there is a way to get both, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Just delete the rom manager app inside the zip before flash and there you go, no more ROM manager.. are you kidding?! why waste perfect screen real estate for emulated keys? Sure the screen could go all the way to the bottom without any hard keys but unless they create a screen with a built in speaker there will always be a space at the top of the phone for that and they balanced the look of the phone by centering the screen AND including keys so that 100% of the LCD is usable. Go get in line with the sheep for that iPhone and sell your note to someone more appreciative of a fully customizable phone

Wrong. Ubuntu Phone has the same codebase as Ubuntu on the Cloud, Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu on the Nexus 7 etc. That's the whole point. There is just one Operarting System. You can dock any phone for best experience 2 GB RAM and a quad-core ARM CPU is simply recommended.
They demoed the desktop convergence on a phone with the same hardware as the Galaxy Nexus long ago.
I don't really know why they are. It sounds pretty cool at first, but I usually don't bring a desktop monitor around with me, and I do most of my work on my desktop. I don't want 2 full desktop computers.. I think it causes two problems instead of eliminating one.

They've shoved Linux on phones before there's nothing new about it.

I can understand these ideas for the consumer world, but the business world is becoming more and more demanding of this type of technology. Microsoft built W8 and now CIO's can look more closely at mobile/byod options. Canonical just slam-dunked their way into that arena with the Ubuntu phone.
How many iOS or Android data centers have you ever heard of? That would be news to me! The business world is run by MS or some form of Linux. I've seen Red Hat, Suse, and Ubuntu. . . add Ubuntu for phones and now you have the ability to narrow the number of systems management panes to a level competing directly with MS.
I think this rocks!

I agree.. and I think that it sounds like a fun concept, too. But how many times have you lost your phone/had it stolen?
Now compare that to how many times you lost your work computer. I don't want to lose all my work. You know what fixes that? Something we call "Syncing", yet canonical thinks it's the very thing that needs to be "solved" yet it's still unavoidable.. Also, most companies lock their computers down to prevent misuse. It would be pretty hard to lock down your phone as many exploits/hacks can unlock a boot loader
and you could flash a new OS onto it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But then again, I've never really been fond of Ubuntu since unity, it's changed them.. So maybe I'm just biased.

Personally, I keep my phone on my person 24/7. Never lost it, and the one time I had a phone stolen it was because I left it in my jacket but took it off. If you keep it in either your pocket or your hands, then there's no way you can lose it.
As for locking the phone down, who's to say you can't lock a phone down as securely as a computer? It's not like you can't plug computers into other devices as well. It's not that phones can't be as secure as a computer, it's just that they generally aren't. That's not to say that no-one could come in and fix that.
