Is Verizon pushing the Rezound? - HTC Rezound

I decided to switch from an Incredible to the Rezound on the 9th.
When I went into a local Verizon store, the Rezound was not featured, or even out on the floor. The sales rep had to search and finally found one in a cabinet for me to look at.
I went back into the store yesterday to get a credit because the price dropped, and there were still no Rezounds out. They have Razrs and the Nexus featured and those are the only posters / banners up in the store.
This is curious to me because I think it's a great phone and I wondered if others have noticed this.

i never saw much in the stores, there was a mediocre display. but i did see their commercial for it rather often, only really showing off the Beats integration

The Rezound has not ever received any significant "VZW" promotion. I don't think VZW ever had any agreement with HTC to do so. The RAZR being a "Droid" phone will obviously be part of VZW's marketing campaign and the Galaxy Nexus is a Google branded phone so, it's uniqueness and its firstness is what is being marketed and is what VZW paid exclusivity for.

You have to realize that Verizon only cares about Apple & Motorola. When I got my Rezound there was one on display(and only 1) but no posters or anything... whereas they had multiple iPhones & Droid RAZR's on display w/ posters & everything.
Just yesterday I was at the local store and they still had a Rezound on display & had it right next to the new LG Spectrum. Although still all this iPhone & RAZR b.s. everywhere and even making a big deal about the new RAZR MAXX phone that's due out this coming week.
Even with the new RAZR MAXX & Droid 4 though I am still going to get another Rezound.

Pretty sure it all has to do with money. VZW probably gets more money from Moto and Apple for pushing their products. HTC, from what I've noticed, has never had any big pushes through VZW. Just goes to show that you need to make sure you do research and don't buy a phone based on what the big companies are pushing. I know of many HTC phones that were never marketed by VZW but sold there that were miles ahead of anything actually being marketed by the Big Red.
Bottom line: Money. And lots of it.

The only HTC phone I remember getting lots of marketing love from Verizon was the original Droid Incredible. I saw ads for that all over the place. Since then, HTC has received no love from Verizon.

The Rezound was overshadowed by Razor Marketing and Galaxy Nexus hype. However, its probably the best kept secret in smartphone history! This phone is just rezound-ingly awesome!!!

no vzw love is ok with me...
i too wasnt immediately drawn to the rezound, probably because all they push on it is the beats, (which turned out to be A LOT greater than i thought it would be), but thru exhaustive review of first the nexus, then finally the rezound, i figured out what a great little dev phone this baby is going to turn into. i never gave 2 ****s about the razr, having the thinnest 4g phone wasnt at the top of my list, and the screen sucks as bad as it did on my x2. The day i went in to vzw for my second look at the rezound, as fate would have it, was the EXACT day they dropped the price $100. Now whats an impulse buyer like me supposed to do? lol Plus, my youngest daughters 16th b-day is in a month, and ol' daddy is gonna be a hero when she unwraps those beats earbuds she DESPERATELY wants! lol
i'm still having trouble learning the modding routine, but i'll finger it out, and have a couple years of fun with this.....hope you all enjoy as well!

Might have been because it took almost 4 months for them to catch up with demand for the DInc. I got mine on day one and it took at least that long until they started showing the "post" release date commercials. I still haven't seen a phone that was on backorder for as long as that DInc was. Hell, didn't they even change the screen to catch up?
KORM via the beast known as the Rezound.

It probably depends on what store you go to. If you go to an "authorized retailer" they can do almost whatever they want so they can push to sell one phone over another if they want. There are two corporate stores in my area and both had two on display to try out.

HTC's phones never get the marketing of the "Droid" brand and the Nexus wouldn't have gotten such exposure either if it wasn't for the Nexus name.

well, the nexus was pissing me off on various issues(screen banding, much slower data speeds then the rezound, reception issues, burns through battery faster then the rezound also). i ended up trading it for a bionic + $300.
i now have an upgrade available again so going to get the rezound(again) & then sell this p.o.s. bionic.

You couldn't have been at a corporate store then.

[Q] Complain & trade in for Razr for MAXX?

I've had a 16gb Razr since it came out. Needless to say, it's a little past the 14 day warranty. I love it a lot. But could use the extra battery. I didn't get it because of it's thinness, but rather, all the other amazing specs.
Do you think I could call up Verizon and complain enough to trade my Razr in for the Maxx?
I think you should go ahead. The 3,300 mAh battery for the Maxx sounds really awesome. Too bad mine doesn't allow for trade-ins. Otherwise I think I'd do that too.

Honestly??? I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening. Usually you have to go through about 3-5 phone replacements before getting an upgrade early.
My step-mom was having issues with her Droid Eris after it was updated to 2.1. Every replacement Eris VZW sent her was a POS. I advised her to call Customer Relations not Customer Service and speak to them, as I heard they can help with early upgrades. She was able to upgrade her phone after the 4th replacement failed on her. She went with the Droid X, and only had to pay the upgrade price not the full retail price. Needless to say, the DX blew away the Eris, she was happy.
That would be my only advice, but it's a long shot.
I agree that its a long shot, but I'd also say its definitely worth a shot. Who knows, you might get a very nice CSR manager.

I wouldn't call it an upgrade, more of an update really. All of the specs on the MAXX are identical to the RAZR. The only difference is 1.9mm in width due to the larger battery. I've been thinking about calling too, feeling as though the maxx is kind of an "oops, we're getting alot of heat on the battery life, better fix it" device.
I too love my RAZR, and haven't really had any problems with battery life, but still feel like we should all be entitled to a better battery, problems or not.

I just called Radio Shack where I got my Razor and told them I was within 30 days and want to swap for the maxx. Asked if there was a restocking fee and she said no come in tomorrow and swap it out so I guess I get the Maxx tomorrow. Definitely worth calling.

I wouldn't mind one of those either.
When I explained I was within 30 she said no restocking fee but after 30 would require 15% restocking fee. I told them I was duped in to buying with out being informed that basically a razr upgrade aka Maxx was due out in weeks. Really I think any ole story will work as they will still cash in on the old device selling pre owned.

It depends where you get it from, but Verizon has strict policy that states even if ur one day after your return period they shouldn't exchange, return it for what ever reason, they have to follow there exchange warranty policy. There are special cases where they do allow exchanges after the 14 days from Verizon but those are rares.
Haha! Get your phone from bestbuy mobile like i do! They give you 30 days to do so

That's the same argument that Bionic owners said when the RAZR was released 2 months after the Bionic. It doesn't hold any water with VZW. They'll just laugh at you and tell you that you can always sell your RAZR and pay full retail for the MAXX.
Also VZW will most likely look at it as an upgrade, not an update.
I'm not gonna try and exchange mine, but would absolutely love to send it in to Motorola to have it upgraded.

I called Verizon. I am very upset that only 2 months later, the EXACT same phone comes out with no changes other than an extended battery (not counting thickness, simply the operating system and software). It's not lke it's 6 months to a year. They released the original Razr, and two months later release the same phone for the same price, and lower the price of the one we all bought. That's bull.
Verizon's response: we can't control when Motorola releases its product, very sorry, understand your anger, I'll put a complaint through for you.
In other words, too f*cking bad.

Costco does not have maxx yet but they have the best return policy 90 days and you get hdmi dock, case, screen protector, car charger lots of freebies.

My path: How I purchased a Galaxy Nexus and ended up with a RAZR Maxx!

So, like many people, I purchased the Galaxy Nexus on launch day. I stood in line for 20 minutes and couldn't have been more excited to take the beauty home. The screen and ICS are incredible, and no phone in production comes close to mirroring the way the software works on that phone (including iOS devices). I cannot express my love for pureblood ICS any more than I do...it literally has been the perfect phone for me (in terms of software). But I also have to use it as a mobile device.
The data connectivity on the Nexus is *horrific*. This was the first Samsung CDMA device I've ever owned and, despite hearing the horror stories of the poor radio reception, I jumped in without regard because of the Nexus name. Sadness soon filled my heart as the places I normally tend to travel to became borderline deadspots of wireless reception, killing my heart as well as my data connectivity. Despite having perfectly clear voice communication and always being able to receive text messages instantly, the data connection would bottom out somewhat frequently. I work about a quarter-mile from the lake and, while at work, I have no data connectivity at all. Other members of my team using Rezounds or RAZRs have 2-3 bars of 4G or drop to 5 bars of 3G...while I have no bars in sight!
After exchanging the phone multiple times, getting new SIM cards, hard-resetting the device multiple times, and trying out all of the other "This will fix it" attempts through Verizon customer service...I was authorized to get a new device. The only problem? They could only "Warranty" the phone, which meant I could only pick a phone I had owned previously. As I'm a new Verizon customer, that equated to either the Rezound (which I "rented" for a week prior to the Nexus launch) and the Nexus (which, again, I'd exchanged multiple times). Then I was offered another option: Early Upgrade.
The customer service rep authorized me to do an "Early Upgrade". Being only 6 months into my contract, I was more than happy to pay $200 to get a new RAZR Maxx (the only phone I wanted -- despite the lack of high screen resolution, it gets phenomenal battery and and incredible reception) and start over my contract, especially because I can now sell my Nexus to recoup the cost.
Long story short: I'm now a happy customer. Sitting in the same place that my Nexus always sat on my desk, the RAZR gets 2-3 bars of 4G (average speedtest: 8-10Mbps) while the Nexus had no data connection at all. On top of it, my Nexus had to be plugged in during the day (arguably because of the bad reception, but even with good reception it wouldn't end the day with more than 15% battery if I didn't charge it mid-day), while the RAZR Maxx can be unplugged all day and used more than average...while still ending at 60-65%. This 3300mAh battery is mind-blowing.
So, despite my heavy dislike of Motorola's "Motoblur", and their upgrade policy...I'm more happy with a Motorola device than the Nexus. Simply put: It works for the things I need it better than the Nexus did. I had grown accustomed to not having a data connection in a majority of the places I frequent, and now I'm excited to realize that I once again do!
(This isn't meant to dissuade anyone from the Nexus or to poke fun at the phone...I still loved my Nexus, it just didn't work the way I needed it to. I just wanted to express myself!)
The MotoBlur won't be an issue for long. Motorola's version of Ice Cream Sandwich is very similar to Google's pure experience, and even better in some enhanced applications. Congratulations on the new phone.
Congrats
ICS will be phenomenal on RAZR, just wait and see.
Hey; thanks for the brain dump! I've just updated my Fascinate to the latest AOPK build of ICS (4.0.4), but in a month I've got my "new every 2" upgrade coming, so I've been glancing at a new phone...the Maxx.
My only concern: how is the screen quality compared to my Fascinate? I absolutely *love* my screen; it's beautiful! But you mentioned a lack of high resolution on the Maxx.
Thoughts?

MAX is a 960x540? Super AMOLED advanced display at 4.3".
I don't think you will miss your Facinate screen.
FYI I went from a Nexus S to the RAZR MAXX so I can actually give you user experience.
Every once in a great while I notice the Pentile display of the RAZR MAXX. The other 99.999% of the time I find myself loving this screen more and more everyday.

Your spot on about Reception, where I work there was NO reception inside so we got a cell repeater and set it up and my RAZR Maxx can carry on a conversation from 50% further away from the indoor antenna then my old Env Touch could, and on the drive into work the "deadzone" I have to pass thru is like half the size it was I can carry on conversations where I couldn't even get text messages out before (used to start at the top of the hill now I can get well into the valley before it drops) and we don't even have 4G here yet.
I also came from a nexus to a razr maxx. The nexus had a beautiful screen, and pure ics. But the flaws killed it for me. Horrible 4G connectivity, low battery life even with oem and seidio extended. Call quality was horrible and speakers was low. I love my razr!

I work on the move: I have three different buildings I need to do IT for and all of them are full of computer illiterates. One of them has steel framework and another is right on the fringe of cell reception and on the opposing side of a small mountain. The MAXX gets at least 3 bars in most places, even in the innermost parts of the mountainside building and allows clear calls from everywhere.
I usually go to bed with about 60% battery remaining because I use the phone for LogMeIn Ignition a substantial amount, which looks good even on the pentile display. I am much happier with this phone than any other I have previously owned (even if my workplace did buy me this phone) and am anxiously awaiting official ICS.
I got a GN two weeks ago, kept it for the max 14 days, but had to send it back today. Very hard to do as I had been following it since it had been rumored. Tried all I could to work with the battery life but it just wasn't cutting it. Ordered the Maxx today...thanks for the post...I'm just that much more psyched now!!!
It really sucks you had to pay, and burn up an upgrade. I think it all depends on which service rep you get when you call. As we speak my Razr is on it's way for over night shipment on warranty call. I currently have the DROID Bionic. I've had issues with GPS and now duplicate messages. I called Verizon and she established it was the phone and not the server and claimed she would send me a replacement. I informed her it would be my 4th Bionic being warrantied out and would like a different phone. At first she offered me the HTC Rezound, which I wasn't interested in. I told her I wanted a Motorola device and asked about the Razr. She placed me on hold to check, and said I could in deed get one. I asked for white and she accepted that as well. Currently out of town working right now, but my wife is bringing it to me since it showed up yesterday. Just my path to the Razr

I have an engineering Galaxy Nexus that I had before it was even released.
I tried to tell people the truth about all of its failings and was generally received with extreme negativity and disbelief and even nastiness from the hoarde of Nexites.
I am admittedly a committed Motorola devotee, but I really wanted to like the Nexus because there is so much that is very enjoyable about it to use and at that time, the only device with ICS etc., but it was such a disappointment from a basic phone use standpoint that I couldn't use it at all as my main device.
I had a nexus and got tired of all the issues even with the latest leaks and OS updates so I got rid of it and now have a maxx. The battery life alone on lte makes waiting for ics easier. Plus once the maxx gets ics it will be a better overall phone( and I am talking about actually being a phone not well it has a locked bootloader bs) since it has much better radios and reception than samsung and the nexus.
The thing is, I've always loved Nexus devices. I ordered a Nexus One the day it went live, and then I bought another one when they came out with the real AT&T version. I love the dev community and ICS is *mind-blowingly* great. The problem is the reception and battery life are ridiculous. In almost all of the places I frequent I had either no data connectivity or very little of it...and they're all within the confines of the major Cleveland metropolitan area (I live in Cleveland, I work 20 min west of Cleveland in one of the biggest suburbs, and most of the other stuff I do is just south of Cleveland...also in big suburbs).
With the Razr Maxx? Perfect reception and great battery life. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
And as for the screen resolution: What I meant is that it doesn't compare to the 720p screen resolution of the Galaxy Nexus. Watching HD videos on that screen is just incredible (for its size, it's incredible). Watching the same HD videos on this screen is just...acceptable. It's definitely no worse than any of the other non-HD phones on the market.

I hate to tell you this, but I think the CSR agent did you a disservice. What I mean by this, is you asked for a white RAZR, and she said okay. The RAZR MAXX only comes in a single color. The RAZR is a fine phone EXCEPT for its battery life. It's about the same as the Bionic, Nexus, and all other VZW 4G phones except the RAZR MAXX. The RAZR MAXX is the phone you should have asked for.
I too went from the GNex to the Razr. Going back to GB was a little unsettling at first since. I only had the GNex for less than 10 days, but I've been running ICS on my Touchpad for months. But my first GNex had the volume up key stop working. The second one had mediocre reception and really poor battery life. But I agree with the above poster that said you should have opted for the Maxx. The battery life is great.

How would it be a disservice? I had the Bionic, got a newer phone with better hardware, newer OS, and sooner to get ICS. I asked for white after she upgraded me. The only difference in the Razr and Razr Maxx is the battery, so really I got basically the same product......on a side note, I didn't loose my upgrade. So this summer I can still upgrade if I choose to do so. Payed no money whatsoever for the Razr, so I don't see how this wasn't a win-win. IMO

I went from my fascinate to a rezound and love it. But I'm still getting a nexus with my upgrade and my wife a razr maxx with hers.
As far as screen goes until I can fully compare the nexus to this rezound, I'd have to say the rezound wins in that department over the other 2.
And with the extended battery I can see well over 20 hrs with 4 hrs of screen on (don't have to use the screen too much to change songs). So "if" the gnex fails as much as people say, it won't be hard to go back to a rezound.

Your experience with the MAXX is the exact opposite of mine, and the opposite of most users around here. The MAXX is the most stable Android phone I've ever had. I've had over 20 smartphones phones in the past four years, and the MAXX easily takes first place as the best of the bunch. The Rezound is a great device too, and I really liked it for the month that I had it. But the MAXX is just better overall in my opinion.

I have an opportunity to get one for that, with it? I have a rezound, find the insurance claim tomorrow/today and selling it and I would like to get enough for that maxx worth it and is this phone worth what I want out if it?
ICS Rezound.

That's a good price for a MAXX off-contract. As for the value of the Rezound, a quick search of the Wanting to Sell forum in the Marketplace here on XDA shows that Rezounds are going for a little less than that these days, in the $275 - $300 range. You may be able to get a little more elsewhere. Either way, the resale value of the Rezound isn't far off the price of the MAXX that you're looking at.

How did we get this phone?

Can anyone find the Droid Increadble 4gLTE on VZW fourms https://community.verizonwireless.com/community/droid ? What is with this phone?

That is there but when you go to the community pages it is not listed. The S3 is there as well as the ORG inc and the Inc2 but not this one.

I've been saying this same thing for a while now. This phone is the bastard child of HTC and Verizon. Totally unloved. Last week I went to the local Verizon store and asked them if I could swap it out just because I felt like the entire existence of this phone is a fluke. The guy politely gave me Verizon's tech support number, smiled, and sent me on my way.

That's strange. I was at a VZ store about a week after the phone came out and it was the first model the guy at the counter asked me if I'd be interested in. I was looking to buy a phone at full retail so I could keep my Unlimited Data Plan and he had one of these himself. He handed me his phone and let me fish around on it to get an idea of the look and feel. I had already purchased a Droid MAX but I hated everything about it so I took it back when I talked to this guy. He was really nice and was very patient with me while I was deciding. He told me I knew more about the phone than he did since I mentioned to him I was migrating from an HTC Thunderbolt. He hadn't figured out everything on the DINC 4G yet.
It's not a fluke, but it definitely isn't getting as much press as the larger screen phones. This model in particular is quite stable. I've not had any weird glitches of any kind. After a few battery charge cycles, even the battery seems reasonable given its size. It's probably lasting longer than my Thunderbolt battery because the DINC 4G screen is a bit smaller.
If you're looking for a small form factor, this phone is definitely worth considering but buyer beware - there aren't many accessories out there for this phone. I bought two at the VZ store and haven't really found much outside the VZ site.
I really miss my Thunderbolt though. The screen is one of the best available and there are quite a few case styles out there.

Abandoning ship

Sorry to report that I have acquired a Galaxy Slll. Best Buy has them on sale for $99.00 today and tomorrow and they'll give me $75.00 for the Photon. That's $25.00 and Jelly Bean dropped from Sprint yesterday. There was no clear reason to change phones until LTE shows up here in Denver until my calculator said $25.00. The MoPho was and is a great phone, however Motorola's attitude sealed the deal. I've never been a huge Sammy fan and if I don't like the phone, there are three other users on the account that could inherit the MoPho and I win another phone.
Woo.
Cool...... Another "I'm leaving / quitting / giving up on this phone thread"....... Thanks for the clutter.......
you should have gotten the note 2! way better. i have jumped the ship to it.
No Samsung
I would always suggest staying away from Samsung. Samsung uses the worst antennas in the business. You will find that you get much better cell phone reception. Motorola is number 1, but does not put good phones on Sprint. Apple and HTC are tied for 2/3. Of course, I like HTC better than Apple for obvious reasons.
Go with almost anything over Samsung.

Why do people insist on putting these posts up? It just makes the forum cluttered with crap. No one cares or will miss you, just go.

I'm keeping that.
It's annoying to see all these posts (trust me I've seen nearly 100 on the original if forum). But the device is showing its age and people will lie ave. Its annoying but true.

if only this were true my sammy is getting better than my motos no joke. even my htc is better. this is compared to the note 2. which is a beast in every way. including the radio system. seems to be much improved. :silly: my s2 was pretty good as well.

My wife has an Siii and I have a Photon. This isn't true any longer. Her phone works just as well, if not better, than mine. Internet service is much improved (and that's a 3G to 3G comparison). Talk & Text are at least equivalent. It's my opinion that Motorola no longer maintains a radio advantage. It certainly wasn't that way with her original Epic, but it sure is now.
The Siii is a wonderful phone. As soon as I'm able, I'll switch to it and NEVER look back. I'm considering just buying one outright and not extending my contract.
Great phone

I recommend buying a used one off of ebay or craiglist if you won't extend contract. I did that with my photon a year ago. Saved several hundred dollars. I then bought the TEP for a few months to be sure it was OK.
