Abandoning ship - Motorola Photon 4G

Sorry to report that I have acquired a Galaxy Slll. Best Buy has them on sale for $99.00 today and tomorrow and they'll give me $75.00 for the Photon. That's $25.00 and Jelly Bean dropped from Sprint yesterday. There was no clear reason to change phones until LTE shows up here in Denver until my calculator said $25.00. The MoPho was and is a great phone, however Motorola's attitude sealed the deal. I've never been a huge Sammy fan and if I don't like the phone, there are three other users on the account that could inherit the MoPho and I win another phone.

Woo.

Cool...... Another "I'm leaving / quitting / giving up on this phone thread"....... Thanks for the clutter.......

you should have gotten the note 2! way better. i have jumped the ship to it.

No Samsung
I would always suggest staying away from Samsung. Samsung uses the worst antennas in the business. You will find that you get much better cell phone reception. Motorola is number 1, but does not put good phones on Sprint. Apple and HTC are tied for 2/3. Of course, I like HTC better than Apple for obvious reasons.
Go with almost anything over Samsung.

Why do people insist on putting these posts up? It just makes the forum cluttered with crap. No one cares or will miss you, just go.

It's annoying to see all these posts (trust me I've seen nearly 100 on the original if forum). But the device is showing its age and people will lie ave. Its annoying but true.

if only this were true my sammy is getting better than my motos no joke. even my htc is better. this is compared to the note 2. which is a beast in every way. including the radio system. seems to be much improved. :silly: my s2 was pretty good as well.

My wife has an Siii and I have a Photon. This isn't true any longer. Her phone works just as well, if not better, than mine. Internet service is much improved (and that's a 3G to 3G comparison). Talk & Text are at least equivalent. It's my opinion that Motorola no longer maintains a radio advantage. It certainly wasn't that way with her original Epic, but it sure is now.
The Siii is a wonderful phone. As soon as I'm able, I'll switch to it and NEVER look back. I'm considering just buying one outright and not extending my contract.

I recommend buying a used one off of ebay or craiglist if you won't extend contract. I did that with my photon a year ago. Saved several hundred dollars. I then bought the TEP for a few months to be sure it was OK.

[Q] Galaxy vs EVO Development Potential

I initially picked up the EVO June 4th and had it and loved it for a month. Then Magenta announced they were getting the Galaxy as the Vibrant so I returned the EVO to see if the Vibrant was all I hoped it would be.
I love them both and my two week window for the Vibrant is almost up so I wanted to get some opinions on the development potential for the Vibrant vs the EVO.
I know its early and the source code just got released this week, but it seems like development for the EVO moved at a much quicker pace. I wanted some people to chime in about what they think, especially if you've had and used both phones.
Many devs are familiar with the HTC way of doing things, and samsung is different so there is a learning curve that had to be tackled first. I think the development of the SGS is pretty good and will continue to grow..
Sent from my SGS Vibrant
Yeah its only a master matter of time. Why would people not want to mess with the best hardware? Especially the developers.
SAMSUNG BEAST VIBRANT XDA APP
I've had the evo too, keep the vibrant. Way better screen, faster CPU, lighter and thinner! Development will come, I know what you mean about the evo dev being fast, but its just because developers were used to HTC ways. Samsung is different, we are finally seeing update.zip packages, I think everything will pick up shortly.

yea most of the developers are just now buying Vibrant's, as more people use them, the more it will be mod'd and developed
not to mention that 2 more galaxy s phones have yet to be released (Sprint and VZW). There will be a LOT of GalaxyS support in the dev community since just about everyone will be able to get one.
In my opinion this was a really good question. I too came from the EVO and Sprint, my wife and I got tired of the horrible customer service that Sprint was giving us so we packed up shop and moved to T-Mo hearing nothing but great things about their customer service. So far I love the hardware of the Vibrant and I too was a bit worried that the development didn't happen as fast as the EVO, so great question and here's to hoping we get strong development on this great platform.

You have to change that avatar! just kidding.
My vote is for the vibrant as well!
I too had the evo. The dev for it was awesome but didn't it seem that at least half of it was correct it's shortcomings? Fps fix, camera tweaks, different radios and kernels. The processor is sub par a well as the gpu. The phone out of the box needed to be modded. The vibrant is good out if the box. Root it and you're good. That's how I feel about it.

The EVO WILL NOT be as strong as the SGS line.
A lot of the hardware between all the phones is very very similar and allows different communities to share their findings. We are not limited to a carrier, therefore this is one of the first times
Verizon
T-Mobile
ATT
Sprint
US Cellular
and more...
Can all work together to find stuff.
Example, the European version of the Galaxy has a speed fix that doubles their quadrant scores. This method is already porting over to the captivate and vibrant and is about %75 done!
Lastly, I'm from the Captivate forums and this shows you how much we can all work together!

TRAITOR! KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Plus Qualcomms cpu's are crap compared to Samsung. I remember my HTC 8525 (hermes) from back in the day had a better cpu than did my HTC Kaiser which had a Qualcomm processor that was seriously weak in comparison. Ask any developer they will tell you.

That and most of the "dev" support is seriously lacking, it's either good (probably something that optimizes a stock ROM), good but still needs more time, not all there (like the FPS fix), or is completely garbage.
With the myTouch 3G/G1, I tried to find something that was fast and worked good, never found that combo unfortunately. I don't see the need for that with the Vibrant. I think we would be best off waiting for Samsung to respond to GPS concerns & problems. Maybe we'll get an update this month that will speed us up like some of the later beta leaks along with an update to GPS functionality to tide us over until FroYo.

Been with Tmobile for 7 years, decided to check the evo out when it came out, since sprint offered 100% money back guarantee within 30 days, never again... for one, service in my area for sprint ended up sucking, specially for 3g. My evo was neat though, it was exactly what I wanted Hd2 to be, so I was happy. Only complaint was no amoled screen on it.
Anyways, I kept it for 20 days and decided to return it as I wasn't gonna pay $10 extra a month for data when I barely got 300kbps upload at my house and couldn't even stream Pandora at the gym due to 100kbps download speed there... went to local sprint store where I bought my evo. They told me to drive 30 miles to a service center because they required all of the new evo phones to be checked out by a tech first... drove there, hit rush hour, they tell me that I didn't have to drive there afterall and that the Rep who told me to didn't know what She was talking about. Returned my phone, got my money back, Guy said That hed call sprint and cancel my service, that I was good to go...awesome, not so much...
Get a bill in the mail a month later for first month of service, then one for second. Called financial department, stayed on the phone for an hour, spoke to 3 people. They are telling me that my cancellation didn't happen until July 7th and that I owe them $200! I had a reciept in front of me stating tat my phone was returned June 28th. I kept on telling them that why in the world would I go through all the hustle to return my device, not have any usage on my account since 28th and not cancel the service, knowing that I only had 30 days to do so... they ended up telling me to go back to sprint store and talk to the same rep who cancelled my service and to have him call sprint. Fat chance I was driving there again. Went to my local sprint store, spoke to this nice dude who looked at my reciept and called sprint to fix the issue. Said that he saw the name of that Rep 3 times prior, that he screwed up before.
All is good now, but after all these issues I'm sticking to Tmobile, way better customer service and coverage in my area. I had an issue with my first vibrant. Went back to the store, got a swap in minutes. People there were courteous, And super helpful. Not so much with sprint...

I'm from the international forum (although I don't quite have my Galaxy S yet, will this coming week!) but have to check over here and at the Captivate forum since we're rather fragmented forum-wise, but I'm sure that it'll be easy to port things between the phones.
I'm hoping the Galaxy S series sees developer attention as well - it has a disadvantage not being from HTC stock, but with such wide availability and being such a high-end device I'm hoping we'll see plenty. Work on CyanogenMod is very encouraging and suggests it's being taken seriously.
I don't know if we can count on Samsung releasing Gingerbread firmware; it could really go either way (the Galaxy S series will probably still be their flagship when it comes out, but UI changes may be a disincentive). But with developers interested in the platform we'll hopefully not need Samsung's help to keep the phone up to date in the future.
Going to +1 everything everyone else said and I also had evo, nexus one and all the rest, I like the samsung best and hope they learned from the behold mistake. But in my are t mobile sucks and sprint data was alot faster. But gsm and no contracts beat that.

Samsung Support
And plus there's absolutely no way that the Behold II incident could even compare because the Galaxies have been released in Korea, Europe, and all major carriers in the US so Samsung will definitely have plenty of support as well as everyone on the Galaxies can pitch in to dev this phone.
They plan to release the Galaxy S in over 110 countries and 125 carriers world wide...In South Korea alone they sold 500,000 phones in 30 days...so DEV support is gonna happen no matter how you look at it...
I'm personally sticking with sprint but going for the Epic 4G....really need the keyboard and the specs beat EVO 2x in most specs....
The EVO was impressive 2 years ago when we learned it was the Super Sonic...nowadays its pretty much just another phone....I mean it even uses a 4 year old processor....
The Galaxy S or Vibrant or whichever name you prefer to call it is more on par with the standards of 2010...

[Q] Worth the upgrade from thunderbolt or wait?

I'm able to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the Rezound for $99 (I can't seem to stomach the 2-yr contract even at that price!). I like my Thunderbolt but I have the itch to upgrade.... I can probably even sell my Thunderbolt on Ebay and make $100 lol. Anybody coming from a Thunderbolt wishing they stuck with the Thunderbolt and waited for a quad-core?
It's head and shoulders better than the Thunderbolt, but you may as well wait. With only two-year contracts these days it's worth the wait.
I've owned both, and I love my Rezound, but I got it as a replacement. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

It was kind of a mess, and it took a week of ****ing up customer service, executive customer service, and some nasty emails. I don't recommend it.
Did you get your TBolt on a one-year contract? That's probably the problem. They told me they pretty much wouldn't give someone who was about to be off-contract a new phone. They eventually did, but it was awful.

Here's the best question...what would you be waiting for? All of the announced HTC phones aren't for CDMA carriers. Who knows when the next crop of phones would be hitting and what they would be.

I was only able to because a CS agent ****ed up. Or, rather, did their job, and Verizon claimed they ****ed up, and so I appealed to a higher power.
A Verizon CS promised me a Rezound as a replacement, said it was in the mail, blah blah blah. I called a few hours later when I realized I wasn't sure if had included a battery and back in the package. The nice lady I talked to saw the order for the Rezound and no order for a battery and a backplate. So she ordered that and sent it to me.
Two days later I get two packages. One with the Rezound battery backplate and battery, and one with a Thunderbolt. One of those wtf moments. So I called in, asked what happened, and after hours on the phone they finally determined that the original CS agent was not authorized to give me a Rezound, and so the order had been cancelled, and they just sent me another Thunderbolt, all without telling me. All the while they gave me at least three or four different reasons, the first being that they had never ordered me a Rezound in the first place. So I asked the obvious question of, so why did I get a Rezound battery and backplate?
In the end they wouldn't budge. Only a Thunderbolt for me. No Rezound possible, despite them promising one to me.
I was kinda pissed, so I wrote executive CS an email detailing the situation. They called me, sorted the story out, and shipped me a Rezound.
I think the only reason I got a Rezound was because of their enormous series of ****ups. Without that they probably would have given me the same brush off they gave you. Well, they tried to give it to me. I'm not sure you'll have any luck--my situation was pretty particular.
Ironically I have a very similar issue. The customer service rep lied to me and said there is no other 4G HTC that is any better than mine so my option was to downgrade to a 3G HTC or take another Thunderbolt. I said "what about the rezound?". He told me the screen size was bigger on the Rezound so that is not possible. I responded by correcting him about the size. He said, "Ok fine, I will try to ship you the Rezound and you may have it by Tuesday but it will probably get denied. I will call you tomorrow if that happens". Sure enough, I was on the phone with his supervisor the next day because he never called me (shocker). They basically told me to pound sand in nice words. Eh whatever...

That's weird to me. Because if you're able to upgrade then your contract is coming close to being up and you would be free to go to another carrier. A long time ago on Sprint or Cingular my phone broke when my contract was over and they said they didn't want to give me one for free (I had no insurance or anything) but at the same time they were unable to diagnose what the problem was since it couldn't turn on. So I told them if you can't tell me what's wrong with it and you won't replace it I'll just go get a free phone from another carrier. Within 5 minutes they were giving me a phone. They offered me a particular one and I asked about a different one that was the same price and they let me have that. This was in flip phone days, still it was $100 price on phone.

I'm able to cancel in June... Verizon allows you to upgrade 4 months ahead of contract renewal.
It probably depends on your usage habits. My wife has a year left with the TB, but it's a great phone for her. The Rezound screen and camera are leaps and bounds better, but the battery life and overheating issues make me hesitant to say its a substantially better device.
If you are a power user who will really appreciate the screen and speed, upgrade. Otherwise wait for the next batch of phones that we're sure to see late summer or so. May as well stay on the cutting edge if you have the option!

Don't take this as a wiseass commnent or anything but...Doesn't the Rezound have GSM hardware? When (other than the iPhone) has a manufacturer retrofitted a phone to work on Verizon?
From my experience and other's, they will pretty much only bulge ONLY if you are still a year or so ahead from the contract being done. People where able to upgrade from a Droid Charge to other 4G devices, same with the Bionic. Im getting my wife her 3rd Droid Charge replacement, it keeps dropping 4G like there's no tomorrow whereas my Rezound is perfectly fine. One more complaint and they guranteed me a different 4G phone.

Photon for $0.01

Great, here goes the resale of my Photon after I paid $630.00!
http://wireless.amazon.com/f/springsprint?tag=phandroid-20
I feel for you. When I bought my Photon, it was off CL and there was a zillion of them for sale. I seriously doubt the Photon has much resell value which sucks but at least its a solid phone.
I was chatting with another member who has Photon, cardock, HD Dock, smart controller, bluetooth keyboard for $650.00. I dont see this happening!
With the LTE announcement, honestly, I was just going to give my Photon away when the SG Note hits Sprint!
Hello,
At least on my local Craigslist, the Photons still fetch a decent amount. In addition, on Ebay, the prices are not in the gutter.
When it comes to upgrade, I am hoping the fact I also have the HD Dock, Motorola Bluetooth Keyboard, and Mouse, will bring a high enough amount to offset the next phone I get as I am eligible for an Upgrade after May 18th.
As a former Premier Gold Member, I have until December to take advantage of my last Annual Upgrade from what I have been told. I am really hoping Sprint comes out with another Motorola Flagship Handset before December. All I know is that whatever one I get must be LTE. I really hope it does not end up being a Crapple iPhone 5. From what I have read, the 5 will offer LTE and after my EVO3D experience, I am pretty soured from getting another HTC. Thus, the choices by December might be pretty slim.
J
@Jungle Jack, after I read your post I thought of something, my Photon cost $630.00 no contract, you can get Photon for $0.01, but your married to Sprint for 2 years and if you want divorce, it will cost you $300.00 or so anyway. Therefore, you could get a decent price from CL or FleeBay!
With that said, I have been playing with phones since early 2000 (BB!), this is by far one of the best phones currently on the market. We have a ton of Photon users that jump ship for SGII, then a month later come back.
The only thing I'm waiting on is Samsung Galaxy Note! Which when I played with it, is light years ahead of Photon! WAY faster (1.4Gzh Processor), Cool UI that you can draw and cut-&-paste with pen, true 1080P HD, and a beautiful TV for a screen!! (5.4")
I am amazed at the prices people are paying!
They are available on Craigslist in the cities I frequent (LA and NYC) for $200-$250 in NEW condition all the time.
And I agree, it is a GREAT phone. It just works the way it should 100% of the time. And battery life is way better than any other Android phone I have had.
Hello,
This is by far my favorite phone by leaps and bounds. Funnily enough, my second favorite was a Motorola StarTac that Sprint offered for a very limited time it seems.
Granted, being with Sprint since the late 90's, we did not always have access to be latest and greatest handsets.
It has gotten a great deal better starting with the HTC EVO 4G. I just wish Sprint and Motorola had a better relationship as I am quite fond of the Droid RAZR, but do not think we will be getting a Sprint version. I am simply hoping for simply a freshening up of the Photon before my Upgrade is void. With there reported to be a multitude of LTE Devices on their way before the end of the year, perhaps there will be a Motorola Android LTE Device...
Cheers,
J
and another thing, we have dual bands (CDMA and GSM) witch is another selling point driving the price!

but it IS a phone! (Its really not as big as you might think, I played with one at AT&T last Saturday) Yes bigger than a phone, smaller than a tablet. 99.9% of the time, Photon is in my pocket and the note fit into my pocket.
Not to mention, the Note has so many atvantages over Photon (and I mean noticable!) that, given one had the money or upgrade available, we be stupid not to IMO.
Except the Note is still a Samsung, so will gps/data/actually acting as a phone still suck?

Well if what they're saying on this thread about the AT&T version carries over to the CDMA version, Samsung may finally have figured out GPS...

I have seen a few on FleeBay but nothing really flips my wig? To be honest, I rarely use clip on Defender (Likely because it winter and I have a coat and need quick access?)
I'm really digging the Galaxy Note Presige Vintage G-Note Diary Series. Room for money and Credit Cards. And if it does not add too much bulk and still fits in pockets.................otherwise, I will continue to look at holsters also.
EDIT: BTW, Photon is not only phone for $0.01, they have a 4G yard sale! With the announcement of LTE, and the 2015 death date, they need to do 2 things. 1. Get you into a 2 year marriage you can jusitify. 2. Dump the inventory of WiMax Phones. I don't have WiMax where I live and will never get it, so a 4G phone means nothing to me over a phone that is solely 3G!

Cheated by T-Mobile.

Guys and girls today I got cheated by T-Mobile Last week I was riding my motorcycle and my phone fell out of my pocket so I got a warranty replacement phone trough Asurion for 130 bucks. It's not too much for a new device but here comes the messed up part. I get the device and it would constantly drop signal or do random reboots with no connection at all for the next half hour and crap like that. So I went to T-Mobile and told them about my issues and they gave me a new sim card so I was like ok that will fix it but no it kept doing the same stuff. I went to T-Mobile again and they gave me another sim card and told me to contact HTC about a new back cover since it might be the antena causing all the issues. I did that got the new cover and nothing same crap all over again so I got pissed off and called T-Mobile and they agreed to exchange my phone but since the amaze is currently out of stock they offered me 2 choices: HTC sensation and Samsung exhibit 2. I wount even comment on the exhibit since its not even remotely close to any type of phone that came out at the time of the amaze even stationary phones have better statistics than that crap. For the sensation yes ok that's a great phone I had before I paid 280 bucks for my amaze. So I *****ed at them for 30 more mins and the agreed to add the Samsung galaxy s2 ****rocket to the list. Anything else was "too much of an upgrade" to be aledgeble. So I had 0 chance of getting anything good. At the end I agreed to have the galaxy and I feel really cheated. I was told to call the retention center by a friend of mine. Do you guys think that it would have an impact at the situation and what would you do?

If they were kind enough to offer you the galaxy s2 then, consider yourself lucky. This is out of there control and retention usually doesnt make offers to get you a different model that isn't already offer as an exchange. I know because I do rentention, sorry to hear you had that kind of luck with everything, its a tough situation I can't comment on the reason T-Mobile doesn't have the amaze in stock but a lot of people were affected expecting a new amaze or exchange just last week it was instock because I was gonna get one exchanged but they must be really running low.

Don't get me wrong when I start off like this, because I AM here to help and I do completely understand how you feel but, the subject line of this is inappropriate. It's not t mobiles fault
A)there's a shortage of amazes that is completely beyond t mobile's control
B) the invoice cost of the amaze is currently $450, so offering you a phone that still carries a $600 invoice cost (still sucks because its not an amaze, cant blame you for not wanting the S2 but) ain't an unfair exchange
And C) if there's anyone to blame, its presumably apple for the customs holdup of HTC product that recently happened and is almost certainly at least a major contributer in the current Amaze inventory issue.
However... that being said. Since you accepted the order for the galaxy s 2, I'm not certain retention can help you. It did not however effect your contract in any way. I'd say once you actually receive your s2, and if you are in all fact not that happy with it, call them (dial 611 and say "cancel service'' when the automated system asks how it can help) and explain the situation. Tell them you're a diehard HTC fan and hate the S2 and that youre strongly leaning towards an Evo 4gLTE or One X and see what happens. If your contract date is indeed close to coming up, they may still offer you a bargained price on a One S, (assuming amaze inventory is still depleted then, otherwise they might be able to send you another amaze at that point).
That's all i can really say about that. Don't blame you for being upset in the least. It sucks for everyone right now. Wish I had amazes to sell for dirt cheap at my work still but they're all gone =)

It's not retarded... just because there are some stores that still have the amaze (which are few and far between if you're in a major city) doesn't mean that someone over the phone in a completely different department that runs off of completely different inventory would magically have access to a retail store's inventory. They could try calling every store in the customer's area to find one. Id say that'd be reasonable and logical given the circumstances... But even then, the retail manager would have to do a $450 override which goes against the store's ability to help other customers with issues actually related to the retail channel. Sucky situation for sure.
No offense intendex, just education is all. There is a lack of inventory on the amaze. The only ones with access are the stores lucky enough to not have sold out their inventory yet.

Calling to complain to put it in "better" words is a great way to get shut down and get crappy asistance with no solutions. The customer service people could easily just shut down and go by policy and op would get no help. Since he got a gs2 then he obviously got someone willing to help but that attitude gets people no help. To address your post while ridiculous as it is, stores carry devices for sale not for exchange and T-Mobile won't take the loss on a new unit when it should be exchanged with a refurb as per the warranty, most stores are short on them as it is, unfortunately T-Mobile can't help the reasons they can't sell the amaze at the moment and customer care has a lot of things at there disposal to try and do for op but the store will make a decision following managers orders so getting one at a store is gonna he more difficult then over the phone.

Last time I had issues with my mt4g (my third one in a year was breaking, so I was calling to get a fourth replacement sent out) I went straight to retention and got a new mt4g sent out as a replacement but the rep was kind of a know-it-all jerk so I called back and somehow got upgraded the amaze for free(I gave the mt4g to my brother, ha). I was just nice to them and told them I wasn't happy with all the exchanges.
I was honestly shocked when they offered the amaze, but I think it was cuz I was extremely polite and kept saying I love TMobile and HTC but I wasn't happy. And prob that I've been with them for almost 15 years...haha. Anyways, I say give it a shot.

I have manners when I speak to customer service. And I think everyone should. I just believe there is something more that a major corporation can do. I don't literally mean go in there guns blazing. Just go with a high concern and tell them you don't want any of those phones offered. You paid for the Amaze. Offered a Warranty. Opted to have Insurance. Pay for services. Why would you have to settle for something you don't want? That's all. Just my opinion.
I had other things on my mind but I edited it and decided not to post it.

I wasn't disrespectful in any way during the call but I was really upset. Given the fact that I spent quite a lot of my personal time dealing with the faulty device they gave me they still made me pay 20$ for them to ship me the galaxy s2. I do understand that I'm talkin to people doing their job on the other end but they have to understand that I'm giving them my hard earned money and when they put me in a position like this ill just find some1 else to give it to. I don't think that ill be renewing my contract with them.

$20 is a lot easier to swallow than the $50 charged by verizon in some cases.
Besides... If you're paying $4.79 a month for insurance only you might as well get the full $7.99 package that gives your (very expensive) smartphone a lifetime warranty and makes shipments for warranty exchanges $5 and delivered over night rather than $20 for 7 business days. That's a mere 10.6 cent difference per day. Even if you had no protection at all that's still only a .26 cent per day difference. Sometimes you get the level of service you're willing to pay for

I wouldn't settle for those terms, none of those phones are comparable replacements, and they aren't limited by just their last invoice value - here is how I get s*%t done.
First, the only phone comparable is the HTC one x. Hardware wise it IS the only comparable phone. You can be nice and respectful while still explaining that this is NOT a fair trade. Just tell them that your insurance was able to provide you with a replacement, even if it is faulty, tmobile should be able to offer you the same phone or something that compares HARDWARE wise. Mention that you still don't like that the HTC one doesn't have a removable battery or external SD, but you'd be willing to take that rather than an amaze if they don't have it. Sound like you are reluctantly willing, not super excited and scamming them.
Here is the secret! The lowest tiers of all forms of customer support simply CANNOT do some things - but their boss can. Or their bosses boss. You aren't trying to get the guy on the bottom in trouble, you are "escalating the issue". One of the people as you go up the ranks will want to help you, especially if you say things like "I have been a customer for xx years", "most of my family is with TMO because I recommended you, so I'd like to know you'll make this right", and "if you were in this position you'd want a GOOD replacement, right? I mean I spent $600 on this phone and they are offering me blah blah.."
You aren't trying to be argumentative, you're trying to get what you deserve. You bought a $600 phone, spent at least $10 per month for insurance since then, and you want a phone at LEAST as good as what you had considering how much you've invested - and you DID bring all your friends and family to TMO, if you switch perhaps they will too? How much will NOT giving you a phone potentially effect their future profits? If your family leaves tmo, their friends leave tmo, THEIR friends.. some one higher on the food chain will see that an extra $100 loss is worth potentially saving years of thousands in profits - their boss will approve. It is what they do. If they fix your problem they know you will tell everyone you know how great tmobile is, how great they treat you as a customer.. if they do it make sure to thank them, tell them you understand the guys below them are just doing their job.. be thankful.
I've destroyed macbooks and gotten replacements with better specs(it took getting escalated to the assistant vice-president of marketing), I've genuinely made a lot of mistakes that are my fault.. but if they want your FUTURE business, they will do you right and overlook things. Someone will, you just have to put in the time/effort - if it is worth it to you.
And if you do settle then what about any accessories that was purchased? Are they willing to compensate you for those? The Amaze hasn't even been out for a year and its not a supported device? You buy a phone expecting to use it for at least a year. It's hasn't even been around that long.

Shouldn't you be dealing with Asurion since they are the ones who did the original warranty replacement and gave you a defective unit? They almost certainly have more refurbs available so they should be able to send you another Amaze. Yes, it will be another refurb, which sucks, but that seems like what you want more than the S2.
Rob
Your insurance should replace the phone BTW.
You had to complain to get a gs2?
They offered it to me yesterday as an exchange upfront.
Spec wise it IS a comparable replacement. They have the same exact insides. Only real difference is the camera on the amaze is a lil better and the screens. Its just not your kinda phone. You want what you want
Be lucky they offered that though. There not going to offer you a ONE S lets say, cuz its brand new.
I do agree though, they should have more amaze's to give out and its BS that they dont, BUT if they only had one phone to offer, that would be the one I would expect because at least it has teh same specs and is not a downgrade, SPEC wise.

Is EVO 3d/ EVO V worth it?

My wife has Virgin and she's sick and tired of her Samsung Intercept (what a shocker.) We want her to stick with a non contract provider, and it seems like most of the other carriers have sub par android offerings. The EVO V seems intriguing but I have 2 big concerns. 1. The phone is a year old. I know it had Good specs at the time and having ICS helps now but I want this phone to last more than a year. 2. I've read in some places that battery life is atrocious. Now my wife isn't a power user, but I also don't feel like hearing her complain constantly about the battery life. I'm leaning more toward this phone than the Milestone because I like the bumped specs and having a legit ICS is a big selling point. As far as a no contract Android goes, is this a good get or should I wait / keep shopping around or do others have some suggestions I may have overlooked?

The battery life is about middle ground as far as Android high end phones. You can get a full day out of it if you need/want to. The phone, IMHO, still has plenty of life left in it. It fits great in your hands. And watching 3D videos on YouTube is awesome. I know people will say it is/was a gimmick, but I completely disagree. It is just an extra feature on a phone that sets it apart from the other ones. I think once the iPhone comes out with 3D, everyone will rush to get one and other phone makers will make it a standard feature on all phones. It was just ahead of its time on the Evo 3D. With hardly any other phones to share 3D images with, it makes it hard to show off how awesome 3D images and videos are without being next to someone and showing them on your phone.
I can understand people wanting to have the next generation of bigger and better phones, but just because a newer model is out doesn't make the Evo 3D magically stop working or cease to have a dual core processor with 1GB of RAM...which still runs every app and game, still makes phone calls, and send texts with ease.
This may or may not affect you, but could...the Evo 3D uses WiMAX and will that network will still be support for a few years in places where it is operational. Such as my little city. I have WiMAX and I use it as if my life depends on it. Sure, I could get the newest phone with LTE, but until Sprint gets it in my city, I'm stuck with 3G. And once you go 4G you can't go back.
I vote get the Evo 3D. And enjoy! I know I have enjoyed mine and will continue to...I am eligible for an upgrade, but I'm not sure I can do it yet because I love this phone and 4G data.

It's a great phone at $100 off craigslist if you are already on sprint or can flash it somehow for another carrier. To pay $300 for it would be an incredible waste of money. Sprints wimax is worthless if you are moving and only ok if you are not. If your house is right next to a wimax tower you might be ok. I thought it has been said it has a few problems out of the box with sprints\virgins version of ics so be ready to flash\root it right away to make it work better. A lot of work for a $300 phone. The 3d part is really just a gimmick, kind of a add-on for the kiddies. These are the realities of this phone.http://voices.yahoo.com/3d-devices-smartphones-causing-headaches-eye-8858717.html
I love my Evo 3D now with ICS, but I wouldn't buy a new one now. Phones get old fast, your best bet is to buy the latest and greatest and it may last 2 years.
Buy it new for like $100 flash it to virgin. Its $300 cuz your not signing a contract. I'm running meanrom ics and I get days of medium use with absolutely no lag or issues.
Everybody gets the latest and greatest because that's how manufactures control the market. I don't think any other phone for this price is even comparable.

Those must be the magical unicorn Android phones...
I'm averaging 50% remaining charge after ~36 hours with everything enabled except 4G. You can get 2 days out of the EVO V easily with Harmonia 3 (a cleaned up stock ROM):
http://www.vmroms.com/index.php?topic=157.0
I can't report on stock battery performance because frankly I rooted and installed Harmonia 3 about an hour after I got the phone.
Of the smartphones I've owned (Palm Pre, EVO 4G, Optimus V, Optimus Slider) and used, the EVO V is by far the best all around. This phone with a no-contract Virgin plan is just about perfect (for me).
I suspect those reporting atrocious battery life are leaving 4G on.

There is a LOT of issues with flashing it to Virgin, he'd be better off flashing to Boost but regardless of which carrier it would involve cloning the MEID/ESN of a donor phone and I wouldn't suggest it unless you know a lot about phones and have a backup in case it takes you a while. It is worth it though even at $300, the specs are just as comparable to today's phones and over the time she would have the phone a couple of years it would have paid for itself several times in comparison to getting it on contract at a subsidized price. I would DEFINITELY suggest it, the phone's specs as I said are comparable to phones coming out today (even higher specs than some new phones) and whether or not it remains supported it'll still remain a good phone for a time to come.
Esn has nothing to do with flashing it to another carrier... Just firmware and pri. I work for radioshack so I deal with this on a daily basis

Not to hate on HTC... but I would wait for new galaxy to drop in price. I think that is going to be the best phone out this year and honestly you will be good for atleast 2 years.
Battery is amazing if you are using a MEAN rom. Otherwise, so/so. Also... I would say the biggest concern is the crappy hardware. You are taking a chance at having a blown earpiece or failing digitizer. These are common issues and I suffer from BOTH.

lol it does when the carrier doesn't allow flashing Work at radio shack? I've actually flashed phones so I know Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile blocks MEIDs/ESNs that are not in their database. It's not like flashing to Cricket or Metro PCS because of this fact. You could flash to Boost or Virgin without changing it but you won't be able to put it on your account Go to Virgin or Boost and just try and activate an account with an ESN/MEID not in their database, it won't work and customer service won't do it either lol (nor will they add it)
The only and I mean *only* way to get a non virgin or boost phone working on a virgin or boost account is by flashing and changing the ESN/MEID.
Also, I HAAAAATE when people say "I work for Radio Shack" or "I work for Best Buy Mobile" or "I work for geek squad" and use it to say (hey I'm an expert) not to diss on any of these (in fact I'm sure a lot of them are very good), but the vast majority of people I know at these jobs know very little and only know what's part of their official training etc. Again not all of them but pleeeaaassseee don't be so sure in something you obviously don't have experience in and giving a user HORRIBLE advise in which they will likely regret it if they try and follow it In fact you probably shouldn't give advice on a subject unless you've tried it (which you obviously haven't lol)
