[Q] I love this phone, but I'm about to throw it into a ditch and set it alight. - HTC EVO 3D

Why is it that the EVO and EVO 3D just @#$%^&% love to turn themselves on and unlock themselves in my pockets? Isn't the proximity sensor supposed to let the OS know the thing is in my damned pocket?
For some reason it seems to like my Levi's more than any other pockets. When I wear dress slacks it's not quite too quick to wake and play.
I'm becoming severely tired of being reminded that I didn't put the phone in my pocket screen-side out by the fact that my leg is about 150-degrees, only to pull the phone out of my pocket and find that I'm about 40 over par in a game of golf.
What the hell?!?!?!?

Sounds like a defect.... Try makei.g sure the power button is face up? If u have volume buttons set to wake ur screen unset them?
Sent from my PG8610000 using Xparent Red Tapatalk

A defect that both of my EVO 4Gs and my EVO 3D have?
Basically if anything presses the power button or wakes the screen when it's facing my leg, the simple fact that there's a capacitive transfer between my leg and the screen through a few layers of cloth can cause it to slide unlocked. (try unlocking it with your finger through your shirt, for example, it works just fine.)
If I put more security on the lock, it stays locked, but that's beside the point. The phone/OS should KNOW it's in a pocket and disallow that action altogether.

Well it doesn't... Touch screens work on heat, and the proximity sensor only seems to shut the screen off in q phone call.
I have never really had this problem(it happens once in a blue) that's y I thought it may be defective, it sounds like your best bet is the lock, that said I always have my phone in a otter box, dunno if it helps...
Sent from my PG8610000 using Xparent Red Tapatalk

Just put a passcode on it, it's not too much of a problem then. Of course, you'd lose a little battery life but not so much as when you find out you're half way through Tiger Woods' new game.

Touch screens to not work on heat. A capacitive screen only needs a conductive surface to work. Just an FYI.

Actually its both heat is for fine tuneing and
Conductivity is big movement, try useing a nickel it will follow the motion well but be choppy now heat said nickel n chop is gone
Ps pennys don't work at all what's up with that

Install leedroid tweaks, set you screen button to something like the camera button, never complain again.

Really??? I would love to see any kind of technical sheet showing that a capacitive screen uses heat in any way shape or form to do anything. If I am wrong, I will not edit my post to change what I said (like you did) but will post a public apology to you stating that I was wrong.

Also, I have the same issue that the OP has, once in a while, I will take my phone out of my front pocket of my khakis and I will have 5 apps open and a call open to my wife or something of that nature. I have learned to face the screen out instead of in which seems to help (if I remember to actually do it).

I edited it because I first tried it with a penny and it did not work at all then I tried it with a quarter and it worked and was very choppy like it was wasnt touching it properly then I heated the quarter and it worked fine. I don't no y this did this but it did...
I was wrong at first, because o thought it was all heat, and I did say that, but I was also posting what I had figured out, that's all.

No biggie...I think I might try the quarter trick to see if maybe a heated quarter has better conductive properties as an experiment becuase I am really bored.

Also an heat senseing touch screen does exist and here is the spec sheet (although deffinatly an inferior technology I new I had seen it somewhere...)

Anyway's pocket carry shouldn't be turning ur phone on lmao.
I would try another rom or kernel if no luck and you try a stock kernel and rom and still have issues take the sucker back to sprint.

Just put a otterbox commuter case on it. Its a 2 part case soft rubber skin and a hardshell over it. You gotta put a little more effort in pressing the buttons, it never comes on in my pocket, I even got the volume buttons set to wake.

+1 NICE!! EXACT SAME THING happens to me! If I put the lock pattern on it, it stays locked but then the emergency calling gets activated! LOL!

I've never had this happen.. and I purposefully make sure to face the screen of my phone towards my leg, as I managed to break a screen with it facing out and something poked into it. had it been facing my leg it would've been fine.

yes, there are a few threads already about this issue. some people are saying it is just the reflection of the bright ass lights on the heptic buttons bouncing off the lip of the case but i don't think it is. if i put something in between the buttons and the bottom of the phone i still see it. it doesn't bother me one bit. u have to be really anal to have this be a big issue.
Yea, I didn't think much of it. Didn't notice it till tonight. Sorry about the repost didnt see a main thread about it. = / I think I kinda like it tho, it rounds out the bottom of the phone. Is sorta a dock for the buttons. =}

Not really a issue for me its due to the bright ass keys I know what light leakage is I had it once on a refurbished EVO in the past. Happy the 3d no issue for me also the tpu case seems to work really well with it .
Stops that funky ass rattle u would get when typing on the on screen keyboard due to the camera button . First time I heard it was hoping it wasn't my glass on the screen coming apart had that happen on the EVO glue wasnt that good.

Touch screen and humidity?

Tries looking this up but nothing. My phone has been pretty good since I picked up a new one Friday. Today its extremly humid in Georgia, to the point u step outside and instantly sweat...my lock screen has frozen up twice in the last 2 hours, can this be from the high humidity? I have to do a battery pull to reboot it and its fine.

Sound like your cpu is overheating. Humidity shouldn't really be a factor.
Also, you could try deleting /data/dalvik-cache and rebooting.

Ya anything wet like wet hands sweaty hands will make your screen lock up at times not bad just wipe it off hit the power button again and your good to go not a big deal just don't drop it in the can while pinchin a loaf or your **** outta luck...
What I have noticed with my phone is if I get sweat on it, like if I hold it up to my sweaty face during a call, I can't interact with the touch screen until I clean the sweat off of it.
Take this with a grain of salt though... My current 3d is getting replaced due to other "issues".

When you said "lock up", did you mean it was completely unresponsive and frozen, or was it just the touchscreen that wasn't working (and it would still display animations, change the clock etc)?
Because if it's just the touchscreen, then the other fellas here are right - liquids on the touchscreen kind of disable it until you wipe.
Yeah, it's sweat. All my touchscreen devices completely freak out, do random things or mostly just become completely unresponsive whenever I'm at the gym and I go to change the song or something...it's definitely sweat. wipe it off and don't worry.
I am in Houston, we have high humidity as well, temps in high 90's and fells like in the low 100's. A lot of my work is done outside and my phone stays in my front pocket of my shirt, sweaty, hot, humid. No issues as of yet, but I am now worried about it, thanks j/k

Physical Screen Issue

So I am using my phone at night and I noticed some light bleeding. Not the usual one everyone talks about but at the very bottom of the screen where the Home button is. I can see light being emitted across the base of the screen where it meets the surrounding.
When I press the screen in on that section it goes away. So upon closer inspection I can see that the screen is slightly raised at that section and I can press down on it and it will be level but slowly raise back up causing the light bleeding.
Great. Anyway I bought this phone second hand. Do you think HTC will honor the warranty if I send it in to fix the screen?

Try and snap a picture, it'd help a lot more people see what the problem looks like

its normal, i have it too, so does my dad's amaze, both new phones
Hmmmm seems like another common issue. Ill try to take some pics today to show everyone what I am talking about. I also have it, Atleast i think its a light bleed, ive also thought that maybe its the light from the display just reflecting off the lifted edges/bezle??? Doesnt bother me much either anymore.
Noticed this the first day I have got the Amaze. Went back to the store, check the demo model, another new one sealed in box does the same thing, we are SOL
If I have the light enabled on the soft keys, I can see it.
Since day 1 it has been there but now it's creeping up the sides...as if the glass might simply 'pop' out one day, that's something I can reinstall.
Another vote for "visible".
thats really weird. I have a telus amaze and no problems here :/ just the normal screen bleed because of the light of the buttons.
Pics with and without the soft keys enabled, taken with my wife's amaze...which is also showing separation.
Always thought it was just a part of the design.

The gap has quickly moved from the bottom, up the sides.
After yeas of consistent use my HD2 case was bowed in on the sides, probably from the "stress" of 5 beautiful children...that includes twins.
lol.
The Amaze cases don't seem vulberable to such forces of massive rage grip, so hopefully no pop.
Both phones were complimentary due to a tmobile blunder, so no insurance (ocd kept my HD2 pristine, these should be fine) I'll do the 3m tape thing I've read so much about on the Sensation forums.
Now THERE'S a poorly built phone...kripes.

however it is your pretty glow, win/win!
Screen bleed is normal in the sense that it is common, but I for one do not consider it acceptable. It is not inevitable, and you can get a screen that doesn't have it.
I just tell myself that these screens are made super quickly and put in these phones super quickly, assembled by some in all likelihood poor underpaid worker.
I cut them some slack, although screen bleed absolutely bothers me. What I dislike is the lottery process. I would pay more for a screen that could guarantee no screen bleed.

[Q] Camera App with Soft Flash Option?

Hey all, I need some help. I need a camera app or even a system tweak that will allow me to adjust the flash setting of the camera. Currently, we only have ON, OFF or AUTO. There should be an option for soft flash as well. I try taking pictures of my 5 month old niece and every photo I take of her, her eyes are closed because of the bright as hell flash we have on our phones. Any help would be appreciated.

Im not an ass, I just dont believe in sticking crap to my note when I'm sure there could be a software solution to the idea. NEXT!
Found this online....
HTC has an alternative API that supports this, however it's only on HTC Sense devices, and as of Gingerbread they've changed the permissions so it's only for their Flashlight app, not third party ones (unless you use root).
But on 2.2 HTC devices you can use it by writing a string to /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness. This controls if the LED is on and how bright it is. For maximum brightness write "128\n", half brightness write "64\n". Easy to test from adb shell:
echo "128" > /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness
And finally turn it off by writing "0\n" there.
Would Devs be able to use this info to create a system tweak to provide options for the flash intensity for the user?

Put a piece of thin tissue over the flash. This is an easy thing to do especially if you have a case on your device. Stop being a **** to people, atleast they are tryin to give you a solution to your problem. You should thank them not lash out at them.
You're right. I apologize to all that i have offended.
Now can we have a solution to this problem that doesn't require adhesive or paper or anything even close to this type of solution. Please, only software related solutions.

In OP's defense; they did ask for software or app tweaks, not physical mods.
In defense of the other responders; using white plastic and/or cheap invisible tape IS a method used even by professional photogs to get that soft, dreamy glow. As mentioned in another post, if you have a case and are needing a semi-permanent solution, cut a small square out of a shopping bag. Use layers and different color bags to achieve the results that you're looking for.

The best solution is to take the picture of your niece in the day time WITHOUT Flash. Problem solved. Pictures with flash have little quality compared to daytime captures IMO.
My gf hates that I keep closing my eyes when taking pictures with flash at night. I guess I will bring sunglasses with me at all times.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Take pictures with out flash in lighted areas
then you can maybe use filters or a camera app that can give you different filters to enhance the brightness of the picture
in dark areas idk ....it is a bright flash and dont know of any apps/mods to dim the flash
and i wouldnt stick anything to my Note either
it hurts to have it in a case but i have to protect it lol

Niece is only available for pictures at night and or in dark basements...?
Solution:
Just carry a halogen flashlight with you at all times, or a candle is good too but could burn if placed too close to skin
If the flashlight is too bright for her eyes you can cut a piece of tape and cover the lense..
Now is good and your note doesn't have any glue from tape.. Problem solved, Leave a "thanks" bellow please.

Busted screen

I dropped my Note 2 right on the face and broke the glass. The top right corner looks like a spider web with a few cracks stretching to the bottom. The display still works though . I plan to get a new glass and replace it myself. I've found quite a bit of info on how to do it.
My only question is this. When I last made a call with it the screen wouldn't come back on when I pulled it away from my face. I'm hoping it's just because of the cracks that run right across the 2 sensors at the top. Do you think it could be that or do you think maybe one of the sensors broke when it fell.
I sure don't want to have to replace the whole lcd unit. That's about $250 while the glass is about $20.

I have a small crack in upper right of screen & now my sharp color is gone. It is now very dull almost like I used a photo app & added an overlay to it. Need some advice
Well I got my parts and got the tools I needed to fix my screen. The problem was I got the wrong type plastic razor blades. I got scraper blades instead. I tried it anyway and ended ripping my LCD screen. Now it's costed an extra $ 200+ for a LCD Digitizer assembly. Hopefully the next day delivery will still work even though yesterday was a holiday and the post offices were closed.
Anyway, what I'm leading up to is don't try this if everything isn't kosher. It's a tricky job.
Update: I found out they won't even ship it til Monday. I guess I don't get it back this weekend. I really don't like my old Charge after using my Note all these months.
