Sluggish browser, general lagy experience when scrolling apps or browser - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi everyone,
I'm generally very satisfied with my new toy. I'm noticing however e general lag in the UI, no matter what app. Also the browser at times is very unresponsive with a general lag when scrolling up or down a webpage.
But not only is the browser sluggish when scrolling, also webpage take ages to load....
Anyone else having this experience?
Cheers,
Frank

Use Browser+ or one of many browsers in the market.
Try Xscope, Dolphin or Opera.

Thumbs up for xscope!

Shouldn't have to get a browser from market with the specs the prime comes with. I have also noticed the lag while browsing and have settings up on high.

Well the sepcs are irrelevant if the software isn't optimized.

I'm not sure how true that is. Friend has Samsung tab and Acer and browser loaded pages quicker. You saying the browser was optimized for them and not us?

There are so many uncontrolled variables in this sentence it's hard to give it any real response.
I have a solid increase over my xoom in page rendering with default browser.

I must admit, the stock browser hangs a lot more often on my Prime than on my Galaxy Nexus. Not sure why.

Yes that's my point. My galaxy s2 runs fast on browser on same sites. I find myself back on the phone sometimes.

i use browser plus on my Gnex and my prime...it does hang/load slower on the prime then the nexus and it does pis me of a bit. also i have lag/hanging in the android market on the prime

I found the stock browser pretty bad and Dolphin, Opera and Boat browser still poor. Pages load much better on my old HTC desire. The stock browser should be 'optimised' on a high end device like the Prime.

I think the Javascript engine in the stock browser needs some work.
I'll be using the proper Chrome release when it comes out anyway
Also, make sure Flash is not always on, but set to "on demand".

I've been hoping for a chrome browser... Any idea when it will be released?
One reason I haven't tried other browsers is that I love how the stock browser syncs my bookmarks from chrome on my laptop. I should probably check... Do the other browsers sync bookmarks too?

I did have slow, buggy flash after the ICS update that required an uninstall/re-install of flash...but beyond that and the force close on the stock browser happening more than i'd like, the browsing experience seems to be good.

I get a force close at least once a day. That seems pretty excessive compared to the stock browser on my G Nexus. I'm going to see if Dolphin fares better on the Prime.

I have used many browsers and so far I get the same results from all of them, lag and frequent force closes. Dolphin and the ICS+ browsers are what I use most.

The stock browser is the best to me not even going to download anything else

Thanks for your advice, but I would really prefer that the stock ICS browser is actually performing like on no other android version and device before. Instead the eperience is really mediocre....
Reading all the comments it looks like it's a general thing and not only my device. If it was only my device I actually wouldn't be worried so much. But on my device this is not only the browser behaving like this, it's a general UI problem. All apps have a significant, noticeable lag when scrolling....

i love opera mobile but not being able to watch embedded youtube videos is a bummer. Ift it could do that it would be perfect.
You guys should try maxthon browser, it is really smooth and has a great interface.
I can't get flash to work in Opera, I just hear the sound but see black squares. Also when searching google, it uses google mobile and not classic, which is very annoying. Any way to fix these?
Is there a Firefox browser for Android?
EDIT: nvm, I found it, it is http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/
Why aren't any of you with the Prime using a real browser, get Firefox.

I like maxthon. I used it on my original TF but for some reason on the Prime, when it closes, it actually doesn't keep the tabs I had open. It actually starts as if the browser was never running previously.
I hated opera at first then I realized I had Opera mini. Opera mobile owns all other browsers on the prime. I have always been a dolphin user til now.

its OK. I tried it out but opera is faster. plus Firefox doesn't display flashvideos also.
Okay, I am going to update my suggestion: boat browser. Even smoother than maxthon and allows Firefox, safari and even IE user agents!
I can't really see much of a difference between Opera and the default browser. Flash doesn't work at all in Opera for me and since Opera bookmarks are pain to access, default browser is the way to go for now.
Can't wait till Mozilla gets the browser fixed, browsing would be so much better with a decent adblock add on. Fennec is just way too glitchy to use now. Not to mention slow.
Opera is smooth but it has that strange issue with facebook posts. For example, you type something in a status box or comment and then post it. It seems to go through just fine but then when you go back and check the post was never submitted to the site.
LOL I thought you were kidding when you said boat browser but I just found it and am using it so far I like it interesting enough one of the sites I visit recognized it as safari 4.......

Firefix doesn't support flash. Here is their comment: Adobe Flash and other plugins are not supported. Currently, enabling the Flash plugin results in a compromised user experience across Firefox for mobile

Opera is the fastest and renders web pages the best. It also supports a wide variety of HTML5 video codecs.
I think opera mobile just needs an update to enable flash play on the prime/tegra3. My tegra2 Atrix 4g plays flash fine on opera mobile. Hopefully update comes soon. Stock Browser is the only one it seems to play flash video at the moment. That's half way decent, at least..lol
Opera is always a bit iffy with flash, need to try out a few different packages to find a winner. Definitely a lot easier once we have root and can tweak things around.
Here's my problem with opera: when I look at my NFL fantasy football league, opera keeps refreshing back to the main fantasy league page. It's annoying. I haven't found any other sites like that but that's my main site this football season. This happened in my original TF and so it continues here.
Oh btw, that boat browser is interesting

Browsers, crashing, lag

I've tried all major browsers for Android 4(ICS), Chrome, Android default, DolphinHD, Mozilla Firefox (worst look for a browser ever) and all of them have same problem, while browsing the internet, browsers crashes, or like DolphinHD reports popup window sayin you wanna wait or close...
And most common issue is that when you want to scroll, move around the website, it doesn't move instantly but lags... or even don't move at all, waits for few seconds and then starts to move...
I have processor always on mid-level, although have tried Performance as best/faster option but always the same.
Internet connection is fast and Wi-Fi signal is perfect.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I would say that everyone has had this problem at one time or another. Please see this thread which is usually on the first page but has worked its way down a bit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597615
Check out that link. Many people have this problem. Some people have had luck with an app called browser2ram.
From my experience, the stock browser is garage. DolphinHD works well for me.
This is one of the areas that my ipad blows my TFP out of the water.
The stock browser on the ipad is snappy and smooth. Just no flash. Can't have everything I guess.
Clarification. The stock browser is garbage on the Prime because the Prime itself is garbage. Stock browser has been perfectly smooth and stable on my Galaxy Nexus since it launched.

Further (dissenting) clarification - stock browser can be smooth and stable. It is on my ATP. I prefer Dolphin, though, 'cos of the way the top address bar disappears when scrolling icreasing page space.

The best internet browser is now...

Firefox (beta)!
I used Dolphin for a while but Firefox is now the best. Reasons why it's number one for me are:
-it's fast
-handles flash well
-syncs anything you want with Firefox on other devices (bookmarks on Dolphin are horrible)
-Ad-block add-on
-option to restore tabs from last time
-ablity to switch to desktop view
It's great for a beta release, only crashed once in a few days of use.
You should check Aurora, the Mozilla test browser. Download it directly from Mozilla website, not in Play.
haven't really tried all that much, but chrome has been pretty good to me ;o
If you're on ICS, Boat Browser has been my favorite. So fast, even with multiple tabs. If you're on JB then Chrome has been incredible. No hiccups or problems (minus having to select desktop mode every time before clicking on a bookmark).

I am very impressed with the Firefox Beta at this point. I get less tiling than with ICS+ browser, and the interface is less cumbersome than boat browser imo. They did some very good work, I can't wait to get the finished product.

Agreed, I have been running Boat since I found it. It is the fastest IMO. The only thing I've noticed with Boat is when you scroll up or down there is a slight lag before the page starts moving. Not that big of a deal though.
I'll give Firefox a try, I like it on my desktop.
Boat was my main browser a few months ago but it crashed way too often. Switched to Dolphin because of that.

Why do web browsers always crash on this tablet?

Ever since Honeycomb, the absolute biggest problem I've had with this tablet is the browser. It doesn't freaking stay open. No matter what browser I use, no matter if I'm running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean, the browser always crashes. And it's not a typical FC either; It just closes right back to Launcher.
I've been hearing that it's caused by some null pointer exception in JavaScript; But you mean to tell me between Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 - 4.0.4 and 4.1, 4.1.1, that this issue STILL isn't resolved? Not to mention, it only happens on tablets (Tegra 2 issue? Xoom has the same issue).
For me, it most notably happens when I'm browsing a Twitter page. In the past minute alone, I've had browser crash on my SIX times trying to load a page on Twitter. Let's make that 7 now.
So what the hell really causes this, and why won't it go away? My Sensation and myTouch 4G can browse just fine, and this temporary Galaxy S III works perfectly too, so what's with the tablet?
EDIT: Disabled JavaScript and set plugins to ondemand. Same damn result.
I've used the stock browser, Dolphin, Chrome, and Skyfire and none of them have ever crashed on me. Ever. Sounds like there is either something defective about your device perhaps your internet connection. A factory reset might help, as might going into applications, finding the Google framework and clearing data. Do the same for your browsers as well.
That's funny, I've noticed just the same thing. Browsers work terribly on this tablet.
With me, they only do crash sometimes – a lot more than on my HTC phone, though. But using browsers is a real pain, as they all feel kinda buggy, and I don't think it's their fault, since they all show the same "bugs". They're all kinda laggy. I've updated to ICS today and I was crying in emotion for being able to finally download Chrome, as it's the most stable one I've ever used in my phone, but I was disappointed when I noticed it too felt quite laggy. I'd rather go home and turn my Mac on than to struggle with web browsing on this tablet, honestly. I've tried many browsers –*stock, Dolphin, Boat, that other one with green icon, and also Skyfire or something.
If anyone has a better thing, or a solution, or anything, I bet there are many desperate people that would die to hear it.
(I know I sound more dramatic than I should, but let's face it, web browsing sucks in this device.)
I've never had any problem web browsing on my Tab. None. I'm not rooted, maybe that's why, or maybe it has to do with the sites you visit. Dunno.
On my tab with HC 3.2, the stock browser would also just disappear to the home screen, but not all that often.
I flashed to ICS, and the stock browser got a bit quirky. The address bar would no longer hide when I scrolled down
on a web page. Would stutter as if it was trying to hide but wouldn't.
Installed Dolphin and it worked fine.
I went back to HC 3.2 (had some other issues besides the browser) and so far the stock browser is working fine.

Dolphin does the same thing though, just a lot less frequently. Motorola Xoom users in a thread from a year ago reported this same problem (in a filled up 14 page thread), and several of users report the same exact issue. I'm gonna poll some more Tegra 2 sections and see if they suffer from the same thing but it looks like this is just another issue with this ****ty SoC, like the portrait mode lag.

Come on dude, I'd have to be rooted to be running Jellybean. And as everyone else has shown, it does seem to vary by website. Full pages on twitter ALWAYS crash, (they work once in a blue moon). Other times browser crashes when browser feels like it hasn't crashed in a while. I could get through a day perfectly, then bam, crash.
I'm not a dude.
I've never had a problem with any of the browsers I've tried, I think maybe you have a faulty tablet.

Yes Google.ca. The browser just shut down without a force close notice and opens blank. Plus it becomes non responsive, on pages that have a lot of javascript.

That specifically happens the second time. On the first crash, I'd relaunch and it would reload my pages, but 99/100 times it would crash seconds afterward. Upon opening it again, i get one tab with the Google homepage.

I'm biased because I've never had any problems with my browser crashing? Whatever. I also never "went crazy" over anything. All you do is complain and complain. Why not just get an iPad and move on?
I have tried several browsers also, and for me I really only have problems with chrome freezing (not force closing). It seems to be random, but happens more frequently when opening new tabs. However, the stock browser on the same sites seems to work every time. My guess is that it may be due to timeouts on the network connection or possibly memory related. And, it seems to be random... I may go a day without a freeze, then have two back to back freezes. Oh tegra2, why don't you behave?

Chrome is the way to go. The ability to create an account and sync all relevant browser data to your devices via the cloud - why hasn't anyone thought of this before? So obvious and useful.
I also strongly recommend trying out Boat Browser, which is highly underrated. Smoother and smarter layout than Dolphin and the best alternative to Chrome, IMO.

Chrome acts really weird on JB. I'm still running pershoot's 8/4 build but I'll be updating and trying out Chrome again. Last time I tried it I would always get a white page while switching tabs, and scrolling was odd. Browser does a much better job but Chrome has too much nice functionality lol

I doubt it's memory relate, it happens a lot with 1 tab open, and with a full Gig of RAM, browsing should be painless when it comes to memory management, not to mention, but Android's memory management scheme is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Tabs and apps actually know how to stay open, and Android knows what to close. Works a lot better than any tablet I've used, even better than crapple's iPad.

Why would anyone use a browser other than AOSP?

Hi all.
Bought a 2nd hand Nexus 10 last Friday. Anyway, while getting round to rooting my device today I used a number of browsers over the weekend. I used Chrome, Dolphin and Firefox.
First off Firefox seemed to have rendering issues on web pages and scrolling was juddery. Dolphin had blank spaces with web pages and also had juddery scrolling. Chrome crashed my device
I have just installed AOSP browser and web browsing is now super fast. I am a long time fan of AOSP browser and so glad to have it on my device now. Pages load up in milliseconds. Rendering is perfect. Scrolling is silky smooth. I can now feel the power of the A15 cpu's.
Why Google persist with Chrome I will never now.
Long live AOSP browser!

I still feel AOSP better than chrome in 4.3, not sure about chrome beta.
TBH I was using Chrome Beta when I had the reset. But I have read that Chrome can also cause this on the N10.
I did like Chrome originally but it just seems to have got progressively worse. Performance was bad on my Nexus 7 and that's what caused me to try AOSP again and I loved it. I also put it on my Nexus S because Chrome was just unusable on that phone.

Never had quite as much trouble as everyone else with Chrome, but it certainly is no speed king. The big reason people would use Chrome is for the value-add features, such as tab syncing.
Tab syncing? I rarely used that but it's a neat feature. I certainly wouldn't sacrifice everything that AOSP brings to the table just for that one feature.

For me, it's a make-or-break. Password syncing would have been nice too before I switched over to Dashlane, but it's why I'm somewhat eyeing a switch to Firefox as desktop Chrome has started behaving erratically for me. I try to use one piece of software whenever I can, so Chrome having much of what I wanted built in ruled out the AOSP browser as my default.

As above, I mean tab syncing. I don't use bookmarks anymore (haven't for a long time), so that feature is sadly useless to me on any browser that offers it. Being able to pick up my browsing session roving from device is important when you have around seven.
Yeah I understand. Chrome to phone. To me that is a feature I rarely use.

I use Dophin. Everything working fine. No problems at all.
You may also want to try Boat Browser.
Aosp is the best. However when I want to use a site like rapidshare etc I use opera as in the other browsers it doesn't download.
Second for dolphin.
The only thing that really keeps me on dolphin is the startup screen. All my favorite websites a touch away.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Dolphin, Boat, and pretty much any browser in the Play Store are just skins over the AOSP rendering engine. Performance is either going to be the same or slightly slower than AOSP because they add a little bloat on top. The only exceptions are Chrome, Firefox, and Opera - those three use their own custom rendering engines and show significant performance differences. But at the moment, they all seem to be much slower than AOSP.
I'm kind of torn on the issue.
I prefer Chrome's UI and features. The smoothness advantage of AOSP browser isn't big enough to make up for that for me.
I find scrolling is handled better by Chrome as well. If you scroll quickly, AOSP browser can't keep up rendering the page and just starts showing the page background. Chrome can keep up better and will generally render it, although at a lower quality until you stop scrolling. I find that preferable as well.
It's a shame Chrome isn't as smooth, especially when zooming. It can really diminish the experience.
I used Naked Browser myself. Though installed I rarely use Chrome and Ocean Browser.
I was a long time user of dolphin until about 2 months ago. Memory leak issues, FC's... I then transitioned to boat, but for some reason that had issues rendering pages that would lead to FC's. I've been using AOSP for about 1 week and it's been hassle free so far.

Chrome to phone involves another add-on and it's not quite as useful as tab syncing for my uses.
And who said anything about needing? Some people spend discretionary income on beer or cars; I choose to collect shiny electronics instead and tinker around with them. It also comes in handy for when a friend breaks something and I can supply a lending unit for a while until their warranties catch up.
