Newb theming question..... - HTC Rezound

I haven't really played with our modded the icons since 2.3 on my d2g. Where do I find png files to edit for the taskbar and such? Any help appreciated.

The majority of them will be found in SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk.

The uot is your friend. just made a nice all red theme ,couple flukes but fixable

can anyone help me out? i'm pretty good with uot now however I can't seem to get the signal bars to stop being a light grey as well as the 3g/4g and arrows to change color. im using cleanrom 1.5.5. they rest of the top bar and statusbar was changed but for some reason i cant get anything related to the 3g/4g arrows and indicator as well as the 4 signal bar to go red. i supplied the flashable zip. it's mostly based off the transparent mod but changed a few things to be like a black/clear/red type of theme. any help in getting the other status icons to change color would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is that the 3g and 4g arrows aren't
stat_sys_data_inandout_3g.png or stat_sys_data_inandout_4g.png
they are
stat_sys_data_inandout_3g_lte.png or stat_sys_data_inandout_vzw_lte.png
If you have the icons you want in 3g/4g then copy them over the similarly named 3g_lte and vzw_lte files. Then you'll get what you're looking for. If you want I can edit up your file to show you what I mean.

yeah if you don't mind. I used the uot kitchen so the mistake was on the automatic cooking. only icons that aren't red is the CDMA signal 4 bar,3g with arrows as well as the 4g lte. thanks for the help

Never used uot. Always ninjamorph and metamorph and just edit what's pulled apart by hand. Xhdpi folders?

Edit: rezound uses xhdpi or whatever and I read uot isnt good for icons but everything else works

I grabbed the file but I can't edit the files without GIMP. I'll beat this up for you tonight if you can wait. Otherwise if you want to try yourself, these are the files that need to be replaced to do 1x, 3G, and 4G on the Rezound.
/system/app/SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-hdpi (and/or drawable-xhdpi)
1X:
stat_sys_data_connected_1x.png
stat_sys_data_inandout_1x.png
stat_sys_data_in_1x.png
stat_sys_data_out_1x.png
3G:
stat_sys_data_connected_3g_lte.png
stat_sys_data_inandout_3g_lte.png
stat_sys_data_in_3g_lte.png
stat_sys_data_out_3g_lte.png
4G:
stat_sys_data_connected_vzw_lte.png
stat_sys_data_inandout_vzw_lte.png
stat_sys_data_in_vzw_lte.png
stat_sys_data_out_vzw_lte.png

thanks I'll try while I wait. I didn't want anything to mess with what uot did so I'll manually patch as I go so everything else is in tact. If I fail then there's always your attempt. which versions of metamorph and ninja do u stick with?

I'm a hard-head. I do it all manually.

not me cause I can never get the images right and always have trouble dragging and dropping into the apk or recompiling

I break it down with morph and drag the work folder to my desktop. Only problem is white icons on a transparent....going through Xhdpi and just getting some basic red updates to match the rest of the phone. Having all blue os and all red and black phone feels off...

all I did was copied the systemui to my pc opened with 7zip. dragged the hdpi folder to my pc. edited selected images with paint.net. all i changed was the 4g/3g icon colors, left up/down arrows alone, changed 4 signal bar colors. dragged the files back into the zip within 7zip and pushed systemui and rebooted. first boot killed the status bar but i left it alone for a few minutes. did another reboot and now it seems to be workin great

change the default txt in the pulldown from black to white since the entire background is semi transparent. I haven't tried decompiling yet, figured i'd just extract the xmls out of res/layout but I did some reading where hex editing isn't required either. uot kitchen doesn't seem to get certain parts right. probably cause of the ota base

Yeah you need to decompile. Which actually isn't as bad as it sounds. If you have skype, send me a PM and I'll send you my skype name and I can send you my setup and walk you through whatever you need.

[Request] Black task bar!

Already tired of the big white bar at the top. Anyone working on a nice black one?
i hope so too, love the gingerbread look from my nexus.
I worked on one all of yesterday evening/night (broke my ankle), and eventually got it to push without issue. After work this evening I'll be uploading it for Dev's or very knowledgeable users who know how to backup and adb recover to use.
Edit: The bar is a black/ grey gradient to still see the text. I haven't yet messed with xml's to try and change the text colors.
Here's Revision 1...AKA Tacky Edition
Please see this thread for my Gingerbread theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974112
thanks, can you post a screenshot of how it looks with the black/grey bar with the current icons?
since this is pretty much first steps of theming, maybe we can pull the icons off of gingerbread framework, those are all "optimized" for black status bar hehe.
Current screenshot is attached.
I will say that I've yet to push the new notification text colors (new services.jar), but will be testing that shortly with gingerbread icons.
I just got my hands on hdpi gingerbread icons, so I'll be testing during the day, and I'll upload it tonight (PST).
I'm planning on making a new topic and a shell script to run on the phone (or .bat on a pc) to make installation easier, and I've been messing with transparencies a bit as well, so expect a few different uploads.
Isn't the cutting edge fun?!
@synergye
How different would it be to push the file to the phone SDcard using USB mass storage and then use root explorer from the phone to move the file to the framework folder?
I tried this way and soft bricked! Don't know what I did wrong!
Any insight?
Are you deodexed? Something I forgot to put in the post above, which I believe is needed to push my deodexed framework file.
I recommend waiting until this evening(maybe sooner for my gingerbread notification bar and services.jar. Im also going to fix my instructions above to say deodexing required.

Nice! Once this has the white text im copying this over
The new theme now has a white clock, and some gingerbread thrown in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974112
any chance we can get the AT&T carrier logo removed as well? I love the black, but that weird gap would probably drive me neurotic after a bit.
I'm planning on removing it next, after adding notification transparency, and doing a bit more overall theming (thinking browser, etc).
Please note that I now have a topic open for this theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974112
thanks synergye!

Custom Framework Help...

Ok, so I've been trying to apply custom framework from a fellow xda member without success. I've flashed these metamorph files dozen of times and only half the icons show up, but the signal bars NEVER change, NEVER! It's so frustrating!! I just tried using the UOT Kitchen to see if that worked and it didn't. For gingerbread ROMs you have to upload systemUI.apk, com.htc.recourses and framework-res.apk which seems to take care of all the icon locations. After flashing the zip on first boot it shows the new signal bars for a few seconds, then switches back to the ugly stock 4 bars.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? I figured uploading all three files I listed above would take care of the stupid signal bars, but once again I was wrong. Any help/advice/ideas is greatly appreciated.
Mods I apologize if this is in the incorrect section.

Driving me nuts too. Gladly buy someone a 12 pack (donate) if you can get me Gtalk, Gmail, Messages and Mail Color Icons like HERE
I posted my problem in the UOT thread in android development section. Hopefully someone can figure this out. I just don't understand why if you have to upload all 3 files where the HTC stock icons are why they don't change. It's mind boggling
Could not agree more.
Friendly bump
Is UOT setup for the Thunderbolt? Meaning will it replace the right signal bars, etc? Doesnt sound like it. Just use 7zip and replace the images yourself.

It's set up for gingerbread sense, so I think that it should work. AFA replacing icons manually, I don't know how to do that, you should know considering I tried it with your framework and had no luck I just don't understand why the new icons show up for a few seconds then they switch to the stock icons.
Yeah but they probably don't have it set up for Tbolts gingerbread. The signal bars are more than likely named different than the other phones.
That's understandable, but why would the new signal icon show up for a few seconds then disappear?
Also, since you're very familiar with this, could you post in here or pm me the name of all the signal/wifi/3G/battery icons and where they're located that need to be changed in order to get custom icons working properly? Or if there's a list you know about could you please link me to it?

Battery is in framework-res.apk/drawable-hdpi (Example - stat_sys_battery_0). Signal/wifi/3G is in SystemUI.apk/drawable-hdpi (example - 3G ICONS -stat_sys_data_connected_3g and cdma_sys_data_connected_3g WIFI -stat_sys_wifi_signal_0). BUT, if you use any of the BAMF toolkit edits they will override the SystemUI.apk. You would have to modify the eSystemUI.apk and dSystemUI.apk. They are located in system/etc/scripts. Hope this helps ya out a little bit.

I personally replace the battery images only. I was in total shock when I first started but now I can do it within minutes.. The one thing I don't know how to do is edit the xml files which you have to do in order for the icons to display properly. So in other words the stock battery only has 5 or 6 images but if you use a rom or theme that has a % (which I hate) it would have 101 images I believe.. so what I do is pull the xml/image files from a stock theme and place them in the rom I want. I'm not sure how to replace signal bars but pm me if you need help with battery.
It sounds way harder than it is

UOT Kitchen works on the Amaze - for some things.

Observations:
I was skeptical at first because there are no QHD resolutions listed in UOT kitchen, but figured if I supplied the files, then it would maintain the resolutions in the files.
Must have all three files to upload for it to compile correctly...
1. SystemUI.apk
2. Framework-res.apk
3. com.htc.resources.apk
I've changed the battery indicatior, added statusbar icons successfully, and change the background to more transparent on the Notifications/Quick Setting pull-down. I've also successfully changed the lockscreen icons.
I'm having difficulties making the statusbar more transparent, however. They have a setting on the Status Bar tab, but it seems to have no effect.
I did try to manually adjust the transparency on status_bar_background.png in Framework-res.apk, but it didn't seem to do the trick. Is there another file that is used based on the Sense base?
Nope. Those are the files needed, one bit of advice though--triple check the operational file it uses.
I.E. For boot animation, use the CM file directory, not the suggested data/local. It may be something in the framework.res file that needs to be changed. UOT works for EVERYTHING, provided you make sure the operational file is correct upon submission.

Hmmm Sense(or any ginger for the matter) responds to the status bar B/G used in SystemUI.apk(drawable HDPI). And the images used on all the qHD phones from HTC use the same size for .pngs as their WVGA counterparts(some things are bigger, but not many), scaling seems pretty good AFAIK.

Found it! Giving that a try.
Thanks!
Trust me, it works. I cannot remember off the top of my head (bit drunk) but UOT works on just about everything. You need to double check where each enabled visual/operational is WITHIN your choice of rom. Then, you can triple check UOT's placement of the modified file.

Let me look into it when I get home...I might be able (time willing) download your current rom and cook it--or at least find where to zap the clock so you can do it to your liking.
My battery cooking turned out to cause a boot loop so no-go on that. I appreciate any help you can offer and let me know if there's anything I can do to make things easier.

okay, I think I'm starting to get more comfortable with this kitchen.
I've got transparent status bar, and modified status bar icons.
Now, I'm looking for some help with another graphic. I unlock my phone for use with a pin. I see lockscreen in UOT only seems to modify the icons and gesture styles.
Where can I look to change the color of the numeric pin keys?

It is imperative that you open your rom .zip and extract:
com.htc.resources.apk
framework-res.apk
SystemUI.apk
All are found within your particular rom package. Upload via UOT's upload page. That is how their kitchen knows what to change and give you an individualized .zip to flash. If you want an in-depth explanation, PM me and I would be happy to go through the whole process step-by-step. Once you get the gist, it is easy as pie.
As for the clock, yea...it is under services.jar and UOT does not change that. There can be another way to delete it, if I have time today I will try to make a flashable .zip for just the clock delete--unless someone beats me to it.
Yeah, I went through the UOT guide and video tutorial before I started working with UOT (I really do RTFM) and it still crashed out on me. I'll give it another shot when I have time available and I can get in.
As for the flashable zip, I'd love you long-time.

[Q] Theming Issues/Framework

Hey Guys,
Im trying to add parts to a theme I'm using. I've themed quite a bit on my captivate and Infuse 4G. This has me stumped though.
Now, for the simple parts im using UOT. Specifically the notification drop down. I'm trying to theme the header, notification, footer etc. Everytime I try it dosen't work. None of the files are replaced. I can see a few of them looking through the framework-res and systemUI res folders. Some of them I can't. They seem to be in diferent places or renamed compared to the captivate systemUI and framework. I've tried three different times and no go.
Question is...Are the notifcation drop down images renamed or in different places on MOTO roms? Any hints for a MOTO nub trying to theme?
I appreciate any help. Thank you.
What images are u talking about.. dropdown notifications are in system ui.. when u use the kitchen make sure u click amend script b4 finishing motor and blur r more dependencies than anything in a custom rom

If your talking about the status bar, you can't use UOT Kitchen to theme it, it will give you errors! Not sure why, just how it is
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
My memory is horrible and and I haven't touched this in a few days but I can give the places to look and if you change them at all it should be pretty apparent which did what. Sorry, I don't have enough time right now to give a detailed answer.
SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > statusbar_background.9.png
--- I believe this is the status bar at the top of the screen
SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > title_bar_portrait.png
--- I believe this is the notification toggle background if you have them
SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > (toggle buttons if you have them... right at the top of the folder)
SystemUI.apk > res > values > drawables.xml
--- shade_bgcolor is.... not sure :/ the notification header I believe (it was a nasty blue bar for me that says "no notifications" most of the time )
--- notification_header_text_color is the color of the text on that header
--- notification_number_text_color I'm not even sure if it's visible. I've never seen it and haven't changed it at all.
framework-res.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > status_bar_background.png
--- not completely sure if this changes anything but figured I'd throw it in
--- right after this is the status_bar_item_background_(focused/normal/pressed).9.pngs and they are the notification items that pop up, change color on press, etc.
The clear all button, I believe, is in SystemUI somewhere, pretty sure it's an xml.
The minus button that appears on the notification to clear is an image also in SystemUI I believe.
I think that's everything for the notification and status bar. Sorry again for the less informative answer. When I get home from work I'll try and check to see if you asked any more questions and I should have more time to explain the little I do know. Really hope this helped and good luck with the theme-ing! Looking forward to seeing new themes come for the X²!
Pretty much right on point... clear button is not an xml though.. except for text colors in these areas everything else is an image that can be edited
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
The images that UOT doesnt get (which btw works fine for most of the notification bar) are located in blur-res.apk and moto-res.apk.
I vaguely remember UOT working for the status bar a while back when I tried, but since I've been on Molten it doesn't seem to work. Not sure if it's unique to Molten or maybe gingerbread or whatever; I also don't have the knowledge to know. All I know is that on my phone right now, UOT doesn't work for status bar and bootanimation. Lockscreen started working after I got Molten v2 it seems... my guess is it really depends on what ROM, if any, you're using. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm kind of curious to know.
UOT will work regardless the ROM your running. The only thing UOT will work for on our phone is the status bar/battery/icons/fonts mods.
You need to feed UOT the SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from the rom you are running. Be sure to select Amend scripting in the options on UOT and you are good to go.
That being said there are a few graphics/colors from the status bar that are not in systemui or framework-res.. you can find these in moto-res and blur-res.
Icons and battery work with UOT, just not status bar or boot animation. I haven't tried window transition so I'm not sure if that works.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
If you are theming the stock 2.3.4 the background color where it says no notifications, on going, etc. is a hex color value in an XML file /drawable/shade_bgcolor.xml. (But in the Eclipse rom nitro changed it to point to an png image called title_bar_portrait.png.)
Thank you guys for all the answers. I really do appreciate it.
I found out what I was doing wrong based on them.
Now I'm on track Found everything I needed to. Thanks again!

If your talking about the status bar, you can't use UOT Kitchen to theme it, it will give you errors! Not sure why, just how it is

The images that UOT doesnt get (which btw works fine for most of the notification bar) are located in blur-res.apk and moto-res.apk.

If you are theming the stock 2.3.4 the background color where it says no notifications, on going, etc. is a hex color value in an XML file /drawable/shade_bgcolor.xml. (But in the Eclipse rom nitro changed it to point to an png image called title_bar_portrait.png.)

okay. so with all of these conflicting posts its hard to determine if it will work to modify status/notification bar/window/pulldown.
but since IDMA is the only.one saying it wont work I am inclined to believe it WILL work and that IDMA is mistaken /doing something wrong somewhere. I hope someone smarter than me can help IDMA figure out what's going wrong. it would just be nice to have everyone on the same page good luck. sorry I don't really have any info on this.
You can nod status bar, but in UOT it gives SHTF errors. Talked to Mendozina about it and said it was something with the phone. You can mod it manually though.
If there is a way, then please please please tell me, it would make it easier!!

Not to deter you from UOT, but why I not change it manually? My experience w/ UOT was that it's limited in what you can do so recently I just stick to manually changing things.

I use it as a base, then I do manual changes. But I have a bug with the status bar right now so it would be easier to just use UOT to fix it out. The status I would just copy it over to my theme zip.

The SHTF errors occur when you feed UOT a framework or systemui that has been previously modded incorrectly.. (ie when you go switching graphics and 9.pngs out without recompiling etc..) Try feeding it a stock systemui and framework from your framework..
For instance.. If your ROM is based on 2.3.3 take the stock 2.3.3 framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk and feed it to UOT when you are done then you can anything you want back in.

Icon Locations

Hey guys!
Recently, I used Rom Toolbox Pro to change my statusbar icons but one won't change (the H+) icon.
I want to manually change this to the 4G Icon, but I'm having trouble locating the .png's in the root directory.
Does anyone know the path to the .png's?
(I've already tried system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi . This seems to contain the old icons, and not updated icons, since the the stock icons seem to be contained in here)
Also, I kind of want to make my pattern lockscreen invisible (remove the big black dots). I'm assuming this is also a .png somewhere in the root directory. A pointer to these files would also be appreciated! Thanks!
Might it be in twframework-res.apk? I haven't done any modifying with png's in a while, shot in the dark

Spot on.
All notification bar icons (the ones that show on the right) are in SystemUI.apk.

Actually, I picked up somewhere that SystemUI.apk was the right directory.
However, I only have the name. I've looked around in Root Explorer but theres sooooo many files I'm having trouble locating it.
Could someone give me the path to \blah\blah\SystemUI.apk ? It'd be greatly appreciated!!
[EDIT]
Nm I did a root search and found it! Thanks guys!
However, there aren't some other .png's in here such as the download icon and stuff.
Anyone know where the other icons in the status bar might be located? (also the big black dots for pattern lock)
Thanks!!!
