Requirements:
1.install adb drivers for your device (read description below)
2.enable "USB debugging" from menu>settings>applications>development
3.enable "unknown sources" from menu>settings>applications
4.enable "stay awake" from menu>settings>applications>development
Installing ADB drivers for sony ericsson xperia mini/mini pro+other devices WINDOWS:
Get the latest java for your computer from this link:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
download and install java...
Get the latest SDK from the link below:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
download and unzip and move to the root of your local drive (Local Disk C in my case)...
Now, run SDK Manager and under the "Tools" category, check "Android SDK Tools" and "Android SDK Platform-tools", and under the category "Extras" check "Google USB Driver package" and then click "Install 3 packages..."
(If your computer recognises your device when plugged in media transfer mode, then there is no need to install "Google USB Driver package"...though i would install it anyway...)
the "adb.exe" utility will have now been installed in the "C:/AndroidSDK/platform-tools" folder.
Right click "Computer" and click "properties", then click "Advanced system settings" and choose "Environment Variables..."
then in "System Variables" scroll down till you see a variable named "Path", at the end of the value type ";" followed by the location of your"Platform-tools" folder...for me it was ";C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools" (yes the ";" is necessary )and then click ok...
To make sure your installation went right, open command prompt (search for "cmd" in start menu) and, after plugging your device in USB debugging mode, type in "adb devices" and it should come up with something like this :
C:\Users\User>adb devices
List of devices attatched
4523454675745757576D4654 device
Now download the file from this link :
http://attachments.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=841876&d=1325678726
And now execute RUNME.bat and press any key...wait a few seconds and VOILA, your device is now rooted.
Please notice that this is not my work, i just collected the info from different places, if you liked the thread please rate and press the thanks button, if you didnt like it and you probly wont, just dont post any replies... Stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 and .69 ROMs cannot be directly rooted. You need to downgrade first, root and then update firmware from phone directly(OTA).

Peter123 has found a fix for people having problems with busybox after rooting
ROOT Busybox Fix
I've also found a fix for the people who have problems with busybox after rooting. Found out that stock firmware already contains busybox in /system/bin. And SOC1.7 adds root busybox to /system/xbin.
So the fix:
Code:
mount -o,rw,remount -t rfs /dev/stl12 /system
rm /system/bin/busybox
mount -o,ro,remount -t rfs /dev/stl12 /system

Be really careful with rooting and rooting apps, I managed to root my first Ace fine but after messing around a bit with ROM manager my phone got bricked whilst trying to back-up my firmware.
I got lucky that I managed to pull off a story that a factory reset bricked my phone in the store and got a new one.
I doubt others would get that lucky. Just giving you guys a warning and heads up.

First of all welcome to forum
Although I doubt that you will get x10 in same price range of Ace, but if so H/w wise it will be far better choice(now it also supports mutlitouch)
But do remember it will never get above 2.1 and ace might get 2.3
I I were you I would have bought Ace but that just me...

Enabling full encryption on Sony Xperia X10 mini pro with 4.0.4.?

Folks, I am trying to get the full encryption on my sony xperia x10 mini pro working. This might also be interested for other people...
According to different sources on the internet, full encryption of phone is available (as regards of OS funcionality) as of android version 3/4.
My Xperia phone came with 2.3, so I updated it to 4.0.4. via the sony update tool.
But at Settings/security I still do not see the "Encrypt phone" capability. I checked with a friend who als has an android 4 phone and when he goes to Settings/security, he does have this option.
So I rooted the phone and installed the Android SDK kit. I now have a shell with root access and looked around through some config files but I do not see anything regarding security capabilities anywhere.
So can anyone please tell me where the files are so I can enable encryption capability to come up at settings/security?
I am sure there is some config file somewhere that just needs to be modified, like set "encryption = enabled" or something like that.
If I am wrong please let me know.
Why is this encryption capability not available by default (as on other phones with android 4) anyways?
Thanks for your support!

You don't have an Xperia X10 Mini Pro (2010), you've got an Xperia Mini Pro (2011), there's a separate forum for your phone. (And when you're there, ask questions in the Q&A section and not the general section)

My Xperia X10 Queries

Hello everyone, albeit I have a substantial experience with Samsung Galaxy devices, I am new to the world of Sony (Ericsson) Xperia devices in the Android universe.
:silly:
A friend of mine has entrusted with me his Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, to eventually root the device and consequently flash various compatible firmwares, albeit there is seemingly a glitch with his device which I will mention below.
I intend on discussing my queries related to the aforementioned device within this single thread, rather than create separate threads for multiple queries.
Coming to the glitch with my friend's device, after it is powered on, the Sony Ericsson logo keeps reappearing, and this I presume is a bootloop, right? Thus, I thought I will try and attempt to get it working by flashing a stock firmware using Flashtool. But before I begin, I have a few basic queries pertaining to stock firmwares.
How do I identify which country's/region's firmware is existent on the device?
Can I use a stock firmware of any country/region I desire? If so, am I correct to believe it would have to be a generic kit and not a branded one?
The device details of my friend's Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 are as follows -
Model Number: X10i
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband Version: 2.1.71
Build Number: 3.0.1.G.0.75
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-00054-g5f01537
[email protected]#1
I await your knowledgeable responses, and I thank you for your patience with my naivety!
Hello Friends, as I described in my initial post, my friend's device is stuck on the Sony Ericsson logo. His device was never previously rooted or flashed.
I am up to try my best with your expertise of course, to revive his device and make it usable again. Hence, I have downloaded the X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_GLOBAL-GGL_GENERIC_1232-9897 stock firmware from the [Completed]X10 Stock Firmware Collection thread by THeLogiC, and have also successfully installed Flashtool 0.9.10.1.
I am following the [25NOV][FLASHTOOL GUIDE] HOW TO for n00bies - G-FACE GUIDE thread by Crowds in order to flash the stock firmware, but I seem to have hit a roadblock. When I launch Flashtool, there is no indication of Connected device: as is depicted in the aforementioned guide. I have attached a screenshot of my current working with Flashtool.
I humbly plead for your help.

I tried the repair function via PC Companion, but for some reason the update failed and now the device does not even power on.

I apologise for my very "noobish" behaviour! It turned out, the battery charge of the device had exhausted whilst performing the repair via PC Companion.
I charged the device to full capacity and executed the Sony Update Service, which successfully revived the device and made it progress beyond the boot animation. After that, I successfully flashed the Global Generic stock firmware and rooted the device via Flashtool.
I do have perhaps, another naive query! How do I ascertain that the bootloader of the device is locked/unlocked?
:silly:
I humbly await your expertise.
I think you need to use s1tool to check it not 100% sure though if its a capital R its locked and if its a small r then its unlocked I think search on the forum for it plus threes guides for unlocking bootloader aswell if needed

[Q] Xperia P Geting Mirrorlink to work

Hey guys.
I recently purchased a Sony XAV-701BT headunit which has Mirrorlink. I own an Xperia P (which I love!) and of course at this stage there is no mirrorlink compatibility.
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2210867 on here and went through the process, unlocking bootloader, rooting phone and then installed the zip as per instructions. I watched the necessary tutorials etc and read what was needed. I'm NOT a phone guru in any way but I do understand things and read/watch what is necessary. any way my phone now has a mirror link function under XPERIA in the menu but when I try to connect it the unit just says please reattach mirrorlink compatible device and doesn't do anything. The phone brings up the "Install pc companion?" box. My ONLY reason to root my phone and do all this is to get mirrorlink to work.
The phone is a XPERIA P LT22i
Running jellybean V4.1.2
Build Number 6.2.A.0.400
Kernel Version: 3.0.75-ThP_ICS_kernel_v10.2
The only thing I noticed is the developer stated that this will work on all ICS Xperias. Do I need to downgrade to ICS? Even with mirrorlink showing as available on the phone? Or can anyone suggest an alternative option to get it working. Would flashing it with the ripped Xperia Z V4.2.2 android leak work?
Thanks in advance. I realy do appreciate the help, Matt.
