[Q] How to set (change) hdmi mode for Ainol Novo 7 Adv - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I believe, it's right place to ask general questions.
I have Ainol Novo 7 Avdanced tablet with Allwinner A10 CPU and Mali-400 GPU. It's HDMI output equipped tablet. I would like to change (to lock) HDMI mode from 720p60 to 720p50 or 1080i50, because my TV doesn't support any xxxp60 mode. Is it possible to do somehow?

i have just bout a novo advanced 2. and want to use it as a media player with an hd plugged.
i will continue doing my research.
the idea is 1 configure the 720i 720p 1080i or 1080p (no much interested but will be a good idea)
the other thing is to configure the hdmi to turn off the screen of the tablet and shows the image on the tv. obiously if you unplug the cable you get again the image on the screen of the tablet.

You see, my problem - my old tv doesn't support xxxp60 hdmi-mode, so I have to send xxxp50 signal to it. But I don't have any idea if there is any software for android to do it.

HDMI tweak help on xperia neo v

I have few HD movies of resolution 720p stored on my neo v (unrooted)
Now what i have observed is that HDMI output does not seem like real or close to being HD video...I dont know why is it like that ? because the same video looks too good when i watch on laptop which unfortunately dont have hdmi output..
Is it because smartphones arent intended to output the real HD quality on HDTV..or is it that it will take few tweaks or few apps which will make it more like HD..
Contents i use are genuine HD of 720p files over the internet..
Players which i use on my xperia neo v is mx video player as well as power dvd 4.xx(latest version)
Is there any other player which will make some difference when i watch HD videos through HDMI cable..
And yes my tv is full HD so it does have the capability to output all real HD stuffs upto 1080p
I would be glad with the help...thank you !!
Roooting the phone is not a solution for me...!!
The phone puts out its own maximum resolution via the hdmi cable. That means 480x854.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I really dont buy on this...as my tv shows that the output is 720p...and there is nowhere being written over the internet that it shows its own resolution...
Another reason why i dont think is because i do watch HD 720p movies..and there is nowhere screen being cut off on my HDTV...if it was showing on mobile resolution as the output is being recognised as 720p on my HDTV..!!
Thanks though hoping for more replies..with any help..!!

Read the default prop it tells you fps HDMI output
Also mod it from there
You may be lucky

Why don't you just use your usb cable for watching movies? Does you TV support USB flash drives? Set your phone to MSC mode, and connect it the TV.

yes my tv supports USB drives..it works pretty well with pendrives on my HDTV..however it cannot play any HD files through USB on my HDTV..only divx files supported..
After being suggested by you i set my phone to MSC mode and connected but TV fails to recognise any USB device being connected
So how to overcome that..my phone is non-root does that have anything to do with it..?

yes you can say that if not much its been 2years old..belongs to LG LH60 series jazz theatre 32'
Picture on HDMI device must be same as on phone display (here is no windowsXP with super videochip with multidisplay support), therefore picture on FullHDTV is scaled 854x480

Hi all!
I was wondering the way to change the hdmi output resolution of my neo v device, and looking for the xda forums and the internet. Also, i was looking for the way to turn off the screen without the tv turn off too, because i have a USB OTG cable and a mouse, and i think that is a stupid thing getting turned on both screens.
In xda forums i only found about the matter for the Atrix 4G ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501414 )
In the internet, i have found this, for the Pov/viewpad10S: ( http://www.grupoandroid.com/topic/21153-configuracion-salida-hdmi-povviewpad10s/ ). As you can see, is in spanish, and i try to translate it:
--------------------------------------------------------
The HDM output of POV Tegra, Viewpad 10s y Advent Vega is configurable, but not easily, it don't have a interface to do it. The olny way I know is through terminal or Gscript. These are the commands to change the resolution:
First su
setprop persist.tegra.dpy5.mode.width #
setprop persist.tegra.dpy5.mode.height #
Where # is the size in pixels. The first is the weight, and the second is the height. Once done this reboot. The default settings are 1920x1080.
You can configure too if we want to see it only through the HDMI output, only in the tablet or in both. We make it with this command. First it's needed to do su to have root too.
Only tablet
/system/bin/nvdmmultidisplay --lcd
Only HDMI
/system/bin/nvdmmultidisplay --hdmi
Tablet and HDMI working together
/system/bin/nvdmmultidisplay --both
--------------------------------------------------------
With my negative knowledge of programming, i understand that neo v have the first by default, and the second is a way to turn off the phone screen, when a tv is plugged in.
¿It can be done in this phone for some way?
I expect that my bad english will not be a problem. Greetings.

[Q] TV launcher not working - any ideas?

When I connect the supplied HDMI cable between my Xperia S and TV*, I get a notification that HDMI is connected. However, TV launcher doesn't start so I cannot see anything on the TV screen.
Is it possible that an app I have installed is interfering with TV launcher?
Anything else I can try?
Xperia S on O2 UK, TV launcher is v 1.0.A.0.11.
*I've tried 3 different TVs with the same result.
I've now found a TV that it works on, so I know it's not my phone. New question: why doesn't it work on every TV?
Do you select HDMI input on your TV or you just wait until it shows up on TV screen? If the second, bear in mind some TV (if not set) they won't go to HDMI automatically.

Yes, I ensure that I select the correct input. For example on my Toshiba I use HDMI 4 which I choose before connecting the phone. When I do this, the blue Toshiba screen turns to black which probably indicates that something is physically connected to that input, but nothing happens on the phone other than the notification. I did the same on an Asus TV/Monitor and TV launcher starts. On an LG monitor at work it says that it's out of range.

Hello,
I've same trouble with my samsung TV. Same notifications but no picture on TV
Anynet+ and CEC activated, etc...
I'm thinking this fonction is not for all TV
i'll try on other TV

My phone works fine with my sony bravia tv, i can operate almost everything with my tv remote except i cant input text like in google search...
the keypad opens up but i cant select the alphabets on it, any ideas?
Fixed with ICS
The problem appears to be fixed with the ICS update.
My TV is a Samsung LE32C450E1WXXH with anynet+ CEC support and I had this problem. The best way is the update. This was helped me 'cause before the software uptade the TV doesnt recognise the remote control command to my Xperia P. But after that i turned on the Anynet+ and VOILAA that works!

[Q] Archos 7.0 could it be the right hardware for NAS music jukebox ?

Hello,
I have been considering to make a setup for a music jukebox fed by a NAS HDD. There are quite a lot of dedicated product for multimedia player, but they all require a display to browse the NAS files (except the squeezeBox touch, wich looks almost like what I would like to have, but requires proprietary soft, not working with any NAS).
Basically, I want to manage music for my living room, but I want to keep any display away as much as possible.
So I thought that a kind of small tablet could do the job.
Requirements :
Acces to the NAS via network, preferably via ethernet.
Stereo output (any kind even if digital is prefered).
Small display 7 inch ok, 10 inch maximum (I don't want any angry birds invasion).
Cool file browser, preferably with music management (artist, style, album tags... CD cover if available).
I discovered that Archos made cool tablet and that OS may be hacked, so I can expect to find a good rom for this kind of use (or may be cook my own, though I don't look forward this)
More of all, you can find cheap Archos 7.0 home, Arnova... devices.
So now I think the best is to ask to those who already know the more about the device (and I would apreciate any advice for I might need something else).
So far I know there are no decent android tablet with ethernet port (I'd rather not have to rely on WiFi), but may be there are some adaptor.
Thank you for reading. More thangs to come for those how will take time to answer.
Not sure exactly what you want but it sounds like you should look at MPD, the Music Player Daemon. I set it up on my file server (a linux box, not a NAS) and there are android clients for it that let me control it from anywhere I get wi-fi. I've also seen MPD run on openwrt devices too... google "mighty ohm wi-fi radio" for more.
Thank you Jimmy,
Indeed, I found some soft that could do the job. I guess you recommend this project. Sounds like very promising.
In fact I have more question about the hardware. I don't think the Archos 7 home provide any kind of ethernet port even through an adaptor. So I'll need to set up WiFi (I don't use WiFi at the moment, for I prefer wired solution). I discovered that it is possible to hack the Archos tablets, but I don't know for now what are the gen8 and gen9. I suppose that Archos 7 home are g8, but not sure for now.
May be should I consider some other hardware issue, but since I only intend to read music I suppose the archos 7 home should have enough CPU power.
Another alternative seem to be an Archos9PC, but first it is more expencive, then it runs Windows I really don't know.
You are wrong, the Archos 7 Home ( you are in the wrong forum for that ) is Gen7.
Gen8 ( 8th Generation ) is the Archos 70 Internet Tablet.
While the HT has enough cpu power, i don't think you will be happy with it, but who knows.
The Gen8 has UPnP directly in the Firmware and the std Musikplayer allready has an option to use the "normal" twonky ( or whatever is running on your NAS) Server.
You can use a OTG Cable and a USB-Ethernet adapter, but Wifi is alot easier.

I suggest as I do. Run NAS with the DLNA. Setup a western digital hd media player to your audio/video system. Use the "bubble upnp" app on your Archos to controlled it all. I use this method and am able to play content from the NAS to the WDHDTV or straight to the tablet or vise versa... from tablet to WDHDTV... bubble does it ALL.... if you want video too...HD video maybe? Use a PC/Linux or some Box to run TVMOBILI on your box and have it index the NAS instead of the built in NAS Dlna... it is better Dlna server and supports MKV without transcode... and also supports AllShare (Samsung TV protocol) so you can just use your Samsung TV as your player instead of WDHDTV player... I have all 5 things running now and I have many options in my media arsenal

Looks like the kind of app I'm looking for. Thank you Josh.
I do NOT want anything but music, for I 've banned TV and internet from the living room. (TV and net have dedicated place). I don't want to set up a LinuxBox either (I'll probably do that for the HDTV in another place, but one thing at a time).
So the questions are :
-Would an Archos 7Home be good enougth for that ?
-If yes, is it possible to change the ROM of the Archos 7 home for a homecooked optimized rom ?
-is there somewhere an option (as for Archos9PC) to cradle the archos 7 Home whit a ethernet port (to avoid Wifi) ?
Finally, considering the NAS working along with bubble upnp, is it required to install some soft on the NAS and are there some kind of incompatibility (that's one of the drawback I see with the logitech squeeze box touch)

Xperia Z2 as a console - MHL lag?

Good morning all!
I have an amazing Xperia Z2 that unfortunately has a damaged touch screen.
Therefore I decided to turn it into a media streaming / gaming console device connected to a Samsung full HD tv with an MHL cable.
I have a dualshock 3 controller and the sixaxis app. The combination is perfect. (The sixaxis app isn't strictly necessary as the z2 connects to dualshock controllers through xperia connectivity - but the app makes it easy to manage mapping, profiles, etc...)
When I use this set up as a media device I have no problem. Streaming movies and music works perfectly.
The problem though is that when I try to play games there is a very significant lag that makes it impossible to play.
The interesting thing is that I tried this exact same set up (same phone, same mhl port, same HDMI cable) with another full HD tv (LG this time) at a friend's and there is no lag!!!
Any idea on how to possibly fix this? is there any requirement for the HDMI port I am missing?
I read somewhere else that the problem was with the MHL cable. But since this is working fine with a different tv it leads me to think that this issue is the HDMI port or the tv set up.....
Thanks a lot!!

What i would do is the following:
Load default tv settings
Update the tv software to the latest (Maybe a bug)
Try different hdmi ports
Check if your tv support gaming mode (soccer Mode) and enable it
I'm not an expert but that's the first things i would do.
---------- Post added at 05:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:19 PM ----------
If nothing works. Share both TV's model numbers
Thank you @Safarend!
I solved this. First I did a reset of the tv settings. Then, browsing through the menu, I found a "game mode" .
That did the trick!
Thanks again.

Cast screen?

Does the Nook Tablet have the hardware to enable cast screen? I've played around with my Win 10 PC and can't get anything to happen. Or is this like Bluetooth, camera, etc., just there because it's there?

I believe there is no hardware requirement for screen casting (i.e., beyond support of WiFi connectivity), it's all about OS/ROM/App's support of a media streaming "standard" that is also supported by the target device you'd like to cast to -- see https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/help/cm14-1-display-cast-to-devices-t3540895 for a short discussion on this and some pointers.
Sheesh...and I thought I was just dumb. What a mess. I have a multiplatform receiver thingy on the way but I'm not holding out much hope after reading all that. Talk about blind men and an elephant.
Thanks.
