Task killer killing my apps??? - HTC Rezound

I really like my Rezound but it seems like the built-in task killer is killing off all of my apps that need sync and/or push notifications. I saw that the OTA update was set to fix that it was killing off email syncs, and it did fix that, my email app syncs all the time now.
However, my facebook widget, facebook messenger app, yahoo messenger app, yahoo mail app; they work fine for about 8-10 hours, then after that they just dont update anymore at all. When a new email hits my yahoo account, it stops getting push notifications, when someone sends me a new facebook message, my facebook messenger app doesnt get the notification, etc. This really sucks. The only way I've been able to get them to work again is, every morning after waking up, I have to power down and restart the phone 2 or 3 times to get them all back working. But usually by the end of my day, they've all stopped again.
Any ideas?

Bump
Anybody experience this too?

Do you mean the HTC power management scheme? Because I don't remember a task-killer being installed.. Forgive me if there is because I haven't seen stock since about a week after I got the phone. Maybe try setting the power management to performance mode and grabbing an app like Juice Defender that's a bit more customizable.

To piggyback on what MrSmith said (speaking from personal experience), if your battery gets to the point where your phone goes into power save mode, background data and/or auto sync may be turning off, and it doesn't always turn back on.

Mine is in Performance mode. Gingerbread comes with a task manager built in. One of the big issues that the OTA update fixed was the fact that the built-in task manager was killing off the email sync in the background (according to the official description of the update).
I'm assuming that the task manager is auto-killing a lot of stuff as well too. My facebook widget almost never updates after a few hours after rebooting.
I'm still on 100% stock. I guess at some point I'll unlock the bootloader, root it, and go with a new ROM. I'm not real familiar with the process for doing that with an HTC. I came from the Samsung Galaxy S world. It was so much easier to root and switch ROMs, etc.

[Q] double circular arrows on top display

I have these double circular arrows up top next to the H+. They are not spinning, just setting there. They don't seem to ever go away. Is this using data or what. Not sure what is causing. My phone is rooted with a few things frozen but nothing that has anything to do with syncing.
thanks for any help
It sure seems something is still syncing... You can test what it is by going into Settings ยป Accounts and disabling individual sync services for any accounts that have them.

No, I only have the Moto Blur default account and there are no setting for that. It has a little lock by it. I don't use it, I use K9 mail program for all my email including google but in my System account there is my Yahoo account that is the default, locked account and a google account, neither of which have any setting at all.

Nope, I tried that and the arrows remain. Also, something strange I think. The arrows stay there even if I turn Airplane Mode on!
Sounds like a silly question, did you reboot?
I rebooted many times. I started removing apps so hopefully I could find it but each time I restarted those sync arrows came back. I also tried freezing every thing I could but no luck so today I unfroze everything and still couldn't get rid of them. Something was always trying to sync. I noticed that my battery life was shorter today so I did a factory data reset and now I am in the process of rooting it again and installing my apps again.
Thanks for all your help and I will be more careful and systematic this time but what I learned is that one needs to be careful about installing apps. Read the reviews first because some programs are memory hogs, some take over your system, etc.
I've only seen that when I started up this new phone.
I shall look for it. I really like my phone. Look at it often.
(Wow, that was nerdy.)

Yeah, the Atrix is still relatively new to the dev scene so most mods are going to have side effects. Basically, just be prepared to do some resets and such until something has been labeled "stable". I'm already on my second Atrix because I messed up the lights for the capacitive buttons and something went wrong with charging, it would always say it was charging even when unplugged. The problems even persisted after a factory restore. Luckily I was able to unroot it and bring it in for a new one before my 30 days was up.
When you see the "sync" icon there, you can go to:
Settings > Accounts > tap on an account, say Gmail.
If something is sync-ing, you'll see the sync-ing icon beside the checkbox for contacts/emails/calendar.
I know on mine, when it syncs with my google calendar, it takes a good 2 mins...odd considering i have less than 10 entries. lol.
I got curious why the sync icon was there for a while, so this was where I looked to figure out what was sync-ing.
Download os monitor and look sort by load. See what is taking up the load and that is your rogue syncing app. Likely it is stuck on a google contact that is corrupted (if acore is your issue in os monitor)
i had the same icon on my notification and i froze account sync and calendar sync, it was killing my battery around 10% per hour. the icon went away after a reset and i have no idea what caused it. looking in titanium i saw an app called SyncML 2.2.1 that has a similar icon but i have no idea if its the app thats responsible, still froze it.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy SL (GT I9003) Issues

Hi,
I am having a lot of problems with my Galaxy SL (I9003DDKA5) which I purchased in May 2011.
I cannot access most of the apps(all the games, the Youtube app, Twitter, Facebook, the Playstation app, Imdb, google plus, home switcher etc, etc.) A stopped unexpectedly report is displayed when I try to open any applications except for the factory ones. Whenever i try to install any applications, even an update to the Facebook application I cannot access, a application not signed correctly message is displayed.
I deleted the Facebook application and removed most of my widgets. Then i rebooted the phone, and when it was back up, the facebook application was back and all those applications also. Further, every time i reset, there is an alarm for 2:30 PM on Tuesday that is set automatically. I don't remember setting this at any point of time and I delete it when I boot up but whenever the phone is rebooted, this alarm is back. Also, the phone keeps vibrating the way it does every time there is a force close message even though there isn't any.
All I am effectively able to do is make calls, text and use the browser. Also the Battery Notifier app still functions, as does the Captivate Keep Alive and Load monitor which have solved the freezing problem that has been plaguing me ever since I got this phone.
I have been facing these problems since yesterday afternoon
Can you guys please help me out? Do remember that I cannot install any apps from the Market. Will anything short of a factory reset help me at this time?
Thanks.

Exchange keeping phone awake

I have one exchange account set to sync calendar and email. The Exchange process itself only uses around 7% of battery according to the battery graph. The 'awake' line under the graph has some solid areas accompanied by a corresponding steep drop on the battery curve.
Using GSam battery monitor to show which app had the most Time held awake shows Exchange over 5hrs.
I tried changing from Push email to every 10 minutes but it hasn't helped.
I also tried deleting the account, clearing cache and data from the exchange app and recreating the account.
Has anyone solved this issue?
I have not solved it but have the same problem. Galaxy S3. I need Exchange Sync, it finally got me to stop missing BlackBerry
Charging twice a day still stinks. Do other Android phones have this constant awake issue when running Exchange? Is the issue specific to ICS?
Hi, never experienced this on my S3, but did on my S1. A few things to try:
- Push can actually be more battery friendly
- Disable Calendar sync, if that cures it, try deleting all recurring appointments, starting with the oldest ones. Bad recurring appointments are known to send the sync process in a loop.
- Wrong login credentials keep the phone awake, even when sync is set to never!
I use Enhanced Email, in which security can be overided ( no server forcing a lock on the phone). I have read that security policies from the ecchange server can cause problems too.

Yep same problem here too, anyone?
I'll try turning off calendar sync. I turned off push but that made no difference, as you suspected. I use touchdown for email, task, and calendar and also use device exchange sync for calendar (the latter so Calendar Snooze will work with appointments). I can probably get by syncing calendar manually but not using is not an option since calendar is more important than calls and email for me.
Will report back with findings.

Hi techphets
Just wondering if you managed to fix this issue??
Ive also spent hours and hours trolling around trying to find a fix for this, but with no success any thoughts?? I have the galaxy s2 (not rooted, ics 4.0.3) so its definitely not just your S3, its more widespread. ICS? or the email app??
Cheers
i never use any stock apps especially when it connects to the networks and syncs so i just uninstall it to make sure that it doesn't consume battery life
Thanks. However when I log in to outlook online on my phone, the emails that appear are months old so it doesn't sync online. The only way to see new emails it to use the app (so I've found so far anyway)

[Q] Managing notifications on multiple Android devices

Hi I've been searching for this for a while now but no luck...
So I have two Android phones, let's say one S2 and one S3, and both have the same Google account, same Facebook account, Instagram, etc, but each has a Sim from a different provider. So sometimes I want to have both with me, sometimes I want to have only the S2 and others only the S3.
The problem is that when I'm at home or have both with me I really don't need both to start going off about the same email or Facebook update, and disabling notifications for some of those apps in only one phone has to be done under Applications in Settings because they Sync notifications settings across the account (Facebook does this), anyways using this approach would be very time consuming every time you would want to switch the phone that gets notifications. Now Cyanogen is known to have the profiles menu that can group apps and I believe turn off notifications for groups of apps with one touch. But I'm running stock on both..
I wanted to know if there is an App out there that can do something like this, group apps and disable notifications for that group with one touch. It would be even better if let's say you were actually using one of the phones and it would automatically know this disable notifications on the other or even geofence your home so that you can set what phone or device actually goes off when you are at home.

Gmail notifications not working after phone is unused for a while

This is driving me nuts, i rely on email, coming from push blackberry email this is not desirable at all.
I've tested the Gmail app and also the OS email program and both more or less do the same thing. If I'm actively using the phone the notifications come through fine, if i leave the phone on my wireless charger i do not usually get any notifications after it has been sitting on the charger for about 20mins or longer.
I have deleted my gmail account and added it nothing, reset the gmail cache in app manager and nothing. I'm also not the only one with this problem it appears. It is a new phone so not sure why this is behaving this way.
Any help is appreciated. S6 edge, on ATT
This is a software bug, i have tested multiple third party clients and they works fine. It is either related to Google GCM or the app itself has a bug. Shame b/c others on the s6e are experiencing the same thing.
