I will be using my GT 7.7 allot in the car and likely in the landscape orientation. This puts the 30pin connector and cable sticking straight out the side.
Is there any 90 degree ("L" shaped) 30pin connectors available? (similar to a "L" shaped SATA connectors -see picture-)
If there is, this would point the cable towards the dashboard and and make the cable routing less messy looking.
I searched but didn't come up with anything.
Note: I know I could use the Samsung OEM car dock (which, I think, has the power cable connector in the back/bottom) but was looking for a lower cost option.

Have you had a look at my cheap solution for car a car dock and cable management yet?
I know this was posted awhile ago, but if you or anyone else is interested, the original samsung galaxy tab HDMI dock uses the same connector and works w/ the 7.7 (I know because i have a couple). You can get these on amazon for $15 right now. I believe this is the same dock for all the tabs and they just change the plastic piece that holds your tablet to accomodate the model (i have the original galaxy tab, the 7 Plus, and the 7.7 and they ALL work).
If you take it apart, the tablet connector looks exactly like what you are looking for - an L shaped 30-pin. The profile when plugged in is very thin and looks less like when you have the actual car charger cable plugged directly into the tablet.
I've attached a picture of what the cable end looks like. The nice thing is if you keep all the electronics intact, there is an area in the back that the car charger cable connects to pass power to this cable as well as a 3.5 jack for your auxiliary audio connector. Once you lop off the plastic tablet holder part, you have a bare ribbon cable that you can cover in black electrical tape and you just have to mount the pod onto the back of a hard tablet mount and plug your power and auxiliary audio cable into it.

I am looking for a permanent car charger cable to install into my car.
It needs to be a 15' to 20' long with a straight cord for a hidden cable run.
I would like to hook it up to the cars wiring under the dash, run it under the windshield pillar trim to between the headliner and roof then drop out above the rear view mirror. I would then plug it into my car dock this just makes a cleaner look.
I have searched around the net but no luck yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

and then a usb cord for the length you want, and attach the power and ground to the cig lighter adapter you can take it apart if you need just make sure you get the + and - right and leave the fuse in there. then tape it up nice with electrical tape and wire it in to the fuse panel to turn on with the ignition. its really not as getto as it sounds.
i just use that adapter and plug it in my back seat lighter and run the cord up by the front seat

Everything you need to put a 12v cigarette lighter socket under the dash is available at an auto-parts store for <$10.
Why don't you just connect to the wiring that is connecting to the cigarette lighter adapter?
That way it would be 5V, and then you can connect that to a project box, and install a fuse in there, and then put the wiring from that to the usb cable.
I did this about 10 years ago, when I directly connected the radar detector, and lights under the seats controlled by buttons. Was fairly easy to do, depending on how much room you have to work with connecting the wiring.

buy a 12v socket too, get something like this, should be cheap on ebay, then just snip off the male end and stripe the cable so you can tap your car's 12v socket wiring

A 10'+ cable will not give you full charging voltage at the end of that run. The cable is too long for the small amount of voltage running through it. While it WILL still charge, it will be at a fairly slower rate.
There is a thread in the EVO forums where I was asking cause it was something I noticed and someone who seemed to know what they were talking about when it came to electricity, replied.

as far as I know USB cable can go up to 5m or about 16ft, this length has more to do with data transmission signal quality issue, for straight charging there's no signal at all, so shouldn't be a problem. When you get a chance please post your link, so i can study this some more

I got tired of multiple cigarette lighter adapters a while back. I bought a 5A 12V to 5V converter on eBay, and wired it to switched power. It powers my phone, GPS, and Bluetooth audio gateway all from the one little box.
I saw a pin out and link to the male and female dock connectors in the orig transformer q&a section. I am thinking about what I can do with them. Some ideas:
1) make a small adaptor from the dock connector to micro USB.
- I understand that charging is slow when connected to a regular USB charger, but I already have like ten of those around the house and in the car for our phones.
2) create an audio/charge only converter from the Asus connector to the iPod connector. I have a speaker that has an iPod dock, and friends/relatives have other accessories for iPods.
- I was thinking of cannibalizing an "ipod dock extension" cable, and connecting one of these mouser plugs.
3) make a cradle or dock, and include the dock connector. I don't plan on buying the keyboard for a while, so this might be a good way to make something out of wood, that lets me charge the tablet, while being able to keep it visible.

Trying to find out if there is such a thing as going from extmicro usb that the evo and flyer have to a usb type A (or any other normal usb).
Need a right angle to plug into tablet for car install and found that I can fit a microb angled cable into the tablet, but now need to take the car charges extusb and get an adapter to hook it all together.
You can just buy a regular micro USB extended cable. It fits in the flyer/view charge port.
Proprietary cable is the one on the right. Regular micro USB on left.
I am installing the tablet in dash of a car.
I have the oem car charger because its only one with right voltage. But I need a angled usb for clearance issues. So im trying to figure a way to go from the charger EXTMICRO usb to the angled usb.
Searched around and have come up completely empty.
I'm working on the same project and found this thread searching (again) for more info on extusb. The solution I came up with for getting enough clearance to use the port requires disassembly and if you plan on keeping the warranty, it's probably not a good option for you.
Anyway, my solution was to make some small right-angle brackets for the pcb that contains the extusb port. It requires material for the angle brackets and two small screws with nuts. See attached for a better idea.
I actually got the tablet installed and fairly well, but have since removed it to come up with better designs for charging, access to the power button (and possibly volume buttons) for recovery actions, turning the screen on/off with ignition, and potentially microphone relocation.
You may want to check out http://www.dealextreme.com/ for right-angle and other adapters if you don't want to open up the tablet.
PS: Protect that screen. The plastic is very soft and will easily scratch.

If you *need* to use the 12pin micro usb that the view has (which from my understanding was only there for the docking station utility), then you might be out of luck unless you can build something yourself.
Im looking for a cable like you linked to, but then I need a way to connect the flyers car charger special usb tip into it. Only way I can think of is to carefully grind the corners so that it will fit into a micro B female connection.
But the chargers are not cheap and if I F*** it up Im out $30
On a kia soul forum where others are planning on doing the same install with the flyer, one guy has come accross a company that makes custom cables. He said that if We send the car charger to them they will replace the usb tip with a micro B 90 degree angle for $25.
So A person is sending the charger to them to have it done and is going to let us know how it comes out.

opening up the car charger and replacing the cable is incredibly simple. I have done it so many times, I can probably do it blindfolded. I actually had to go and replace the OEM chargers cable with the USB cable that it came with because my damn dog chewed threw the charger cable. Didn't come back very pretty, but it works, that charger has got the be the best charger built I have ever seen, incredibly difficult to open, but I'm sure the car charger is a lot easier to open, you just need a soldering gun and it should be easy.

I have a MHL Adapter and I get video just fine. Now I want to be able to sit on my couch while i use the adapter. Seems to me the simplest way would be to use a 15-20 foot Micro USB Male - Micro USB Female extension cable.
Does anyone have any experience with such a setup? Do you have a recommendation for such a cable?

Why micro USB? You can get a HDMI cable as long as you might want (Monoprice is particularly good). If it's not enough you can carry a HDMI signal over a single or (simpler to find) two CAT5 cables w/ RJ45 jacks for hundreds of feet.
I guess the thought was that if I have the Micro USB Extension, then it's one thin lightweight wire that has to travel across the floor.
If I did HDMI, I'd still have to be near power whereas with Micro USB, I could set the power adapter, and HDMI, and MHL Adapter all together and then have a thin and lightweight wire traveling across the floor.
But if it's not possible, (micro USB limitiation??) then HDMI it would have to be.

I wanted to do exactly this - extend the cable but at the micro-USB end to avoid having the Micro-usb power supply line and the bulky MHL adaptor all where the phone is - much cleaner to just have a thin cable coming out of the phone and headed towards the TV.
I did get hold of a micro-USB extension cable (2m/6ft) but unfortunately it does not work. Directly plugging the phone into the MHL adaptor works perfectly, as soon as I insert the micro-USB extension it doesn't work. I need to have a closer look to check the pins are populated etc, but not sure why this would be an issue - don't think it can be signal strength and if all the pins are populated I don't see why the adaptor would care.????
Any thoughts?
Micro B USB extension not working
I, too have been trying to figure out why an extension cable doesn't work the way you think it might. Today, I tried cutting my 6 foot cable, first making sure I had the right power leads working. Then I went through all the possible combinations of connections to see if one would work. None do. I'm at a complete loss on this wondering what I should try next.

Like the other guy said, get your x for of hdmi cable, then just plug your AC charger in where you are. Mhl might use additional connectors/pins/whatever vs micro USB. Or you can go totally wireless and use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
Also I remember I had a charging issue with an extension. Sometimes one product works better than others. I can't charge my phone with my 20 dollar AC charger from best buy since the ICS leak. It's weird. Hdmi cables are pretty uniform, I would just extend that.

Yes, that works, always has, but that's not the point. Would rather have just one long cable connected to the phone in front of the TV rather than three cables, the device and the phone in a kludge setup.

I took apart the two cables and the USB has four wires while the MHL cable has ten.
are the mhl wires easily extendable themselves by splicing? I'm thinking strip out a few usb cables and use the wires? Or just go purchase some extremely thin gauge wire (22 gauge) and make it yourself?
Micro B USB extension not working
The Micro B USB connector only has 5 connections, so there is no way you can connect 10 from the MHL cable to it, so something else is going on.

I did wanted to do the same but the extension cable didn't work. I looked at the connecting points and felt that the micro usb from Mel adaptor is to bit longer than usual so I thought that may be the reason and I shorten it resulting damaging my Mel adaptor itself. Now I am going for allshare cast wireless hub. So everyone please don't try to cut the micro usb pin from your adaptor or u will better decide to for my option to for complete flexibility.

The MHL cable end is rather bulky and does not fit into the opening of my otterbox that is on my phone... most microUSB wires fit into the opening just fine.. Taking my phone out of the case every time I am in the car is rather ridiculous so I bought the micro USB extension (bought a 6" one).. didn;t even register except to charge... So, and ideas would be greatly appreciated..

Get a different MHL adapter. I use an adapter close to the one 7 posts up by hedaleth with my kenwood system in my truck.
I tried to hook up a game controller via the OTG adapter and it appears to not send any power out from it. Even with a USB thumb drive and other USB C adapters, nothing seems to work. Has anyone else noticed this? You can transfer data via the cable just fine, but I find it strange it doesn't send any power through the plug.
Have you tried connecting it the other way round?

I noticed the same thing. I believe it's because once it comes out the other side with the 5-pin adapter, it is then reduced to the old micro-usb specification, which uses 5 wires. True USB-C connection has like 20 or 24 pins. I was able to get a couple very basic OTG of things to work, like a mouse and a thumb drive. BUT HERE IS THE CATCH - The mag connector has 5 pins, reduced from 20-some on the C connection.. so true USB-C connection is no longer possible once you get on the other side of the connector. So the trick is to NOT use a USB-C OTG when it's in the case with magnetic adapter. You must use a Micro USB OTG with a Micro-to-C adapter attached to that. Even so, not everything worked just by sticking on the Micro-to-C adapter.. Mouse and a thumb drive worked, but my ethernet adapter and VGA/HML/HDMI adapters did not. Out of the case, I can use my USB-C to HDMI cable to display on my TV. But same cord does not work with the magnetic adapter with the case. It is simply not possible because the reduction of contact pins from phone to case to magnet.. One more thing to consider, if you're trying to do anything other than charging, make sure the magnet is on the right way.. there's a little logo it should be in the front.
If I can come across a spare or broken Dual Screen case, I'd be curious to take it apart and see if it would be possible to rig it up with a better plug for the case.. find which wires go to the workings of the DS and leave them intact, but then try to replace the magnetic pins with a female C plug that has all the contacts intact still..

Thank you @Seymour_Asses ! I saw here https://twitter.com/konic0s/status/1202966945693220865 that LG G8X supports USB-C to HDMI adapters but I didn't know if it also worked with the Dual Screen case but now I know it doesn't, thanks for the information, very helpful ! :good:
BTW I think that when you connect the Dual Screen case to the G8X it uses the dedicated USB-C high speed pins of the G8X for video-out so these pins are not available anymore for other HDMI out, I'm not sure about it and don't have any proofs but it seems you are right about not enough pins on the mag connector.
If i remember correctly, the manual states that most USB-C functions wont work though the dual screen case. I think there was some speculation that its due to most of that bandwidth being used for the second screen.
Quite simple: the Mag USB-C adapter is for charging only. It drives me mad as i have a professional USB-C headphone that I use for conferencing.
But I understand the reason: when in dual screen, the USB-C data connection is in use dor the second screen, enabling the USB-C connection beyond that requires a hub to be built in the case "before" the DS connection (so it wont work building it in the dongle itself).
I wish LG went with a Pogo connector on the bottom or on the side to activate the DS case. This would have made the chin slimmer and freed up the USB-C port.
Anyway, it is what it is now, and i will not trade my LG G8x DS for anything at the moment... Until maybe that Surface Duo phone for which I might need to sell a vital organ ?
