Just Switched ... - HTC Radar

Just got the HTC Radar today and all I can say is WOW! This phone really rocks! Way faster and smoother than the Samsung Exhibit II 4G that I had since Friday and better (hands down) than the BB Bold 9780 that I had from Sept 2011 until last Friday.
The UI will take a bit of getting used to, but the overall feel of the phone is incredible.

I just picked up a Radar as well, been using Android for a couple of years. Windows 7 is much smoother, but I wouldn't call it faster. Third party apps take much longer to load than their Android counter part, and so far I prefer web browsing on Android devices. I do like the Radar's form factor and build quality.

[Q] Proud and satisified?

Just a quick one. Are all of you happy with your purchase? Ive been reading more and more about people liking their Inspire 4G more than the Atrix and lots of them returned their Atrix's. I want the Atrix, ive preordered it (comes out Thursday in Canada), i guess you could say I just need a pat on the back or a kick in the ass to tell me that everything is going to be fine.
Ive extremely excited to see what this dev community will have to offer in the coming months.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Im happy with mine I was little regretting getting it after couple days when i herd about the lock bootloader but it seems like it might get bypassed by the devs.
Other than that it has been really fast and everything for me and i also got the laptop dock which i use everyday which is also neat a bit slow but does the stuff i want it too do like videos web browsing and some gaming.
Wait till the boot loader get pass im sure all those people that return there arix for a inspire will regret doing it.
I still think i would keep mine even if the boot loader doesn't get bypassed and i also couldn't stand the battery life on the inspire which i herd is pretty bad, Which battery life is the most impotent thing for mobile devices (phones laptops or pretty much everything that has a battery) too me and if it doesn't get good battery life than too me its useless.
I absolutely love the Atrix, coming from the iPhone 4. The things I do MOST on my smart phone are texting, e-mail and web browsing. In all of these areas, I've found the UI (even with MotoBlur) to be much more logical and customizable. I've found web browsing to be a lot faster and I love the notification system. I think the screen is perfectly fine but then again, I don't even know what Pentile is. I think the homescreen 7 page system is logical and easy to adjust to my needs. I love being able to try a slew of web browsers and media players and choose the one that best suits my needs (Dolphin HD and WinAmp) I also have been happy with the battery life - I typically have my phone unplugged for 12-14 hours a day and never drop below 30% battery life using the phone moderately.
I've installed adeo and, while I didn't have lag complaints before, I absolutely see the benefits after.
Some cons: The phone gets hot quickly. I've noticed that, in MY opinion, iOS versions of apps have more polish and overall, the app store still isn't of the same quality. I also think the hardware FEELS a bit cheap compared to the iphone 4. Camera is meh. I do think the texting application could use some improvement.
These complaints are nothing new to these forums however and ultimately, I would never consider going back to iOS in its current state. Its just so limiting and boring after a while and I don't like being locked into a single hardware manufacturer eco-system.
Coming from a captivate to an atrix I'm very satisfied. I tried an inspire for like 4 days then got an atrix. The only pluses the inspire has is in my opinion is the screen is a little nicer and it has a lot more development. Speaker sucks, battery is bad, dual core rocks it in reality even with a 1.8 oc. The only reason the development is so far is because the inspire was released as a desire HD like 8 months ago in Europe, so basically you're buying a nearly year old phone out of the gate. Plus in the last week dev for the atrix has tripled due to having recovery if it gets bricked so the good stuff is starting to roll out quickly. I don't think the inspire is a bad phone, the atrix is just better, now if we got the inspire 8 months ago like Europe it would be an awesome phone.

to keep or not to keep that is the question..

As no-one has asked this question I thought I might as well.
How many gs3 owners are so dissatisfied that they are considering returning their product?
Also state reasons please.
I know this won't be a popular thread with some diehard fans, might even get abuse from some but I'm sure there are people not happy with gs3.
I for one after playing around with gs3 aren't convinced this product is a huge improvement on the gs2.
I absolutely hate the build quality more so now then before, it feels and looks cheap.
Led notification is way too bright and visible through the surrounding body rather then just the actual place this makes the build quality look even cheaper.
S-voice not accurate at all.
Screen is good but not much of an improvement on the gs2.
Surprisingly it lags.
You might not be happy with camera quality?
Video playback quality?
To add galaxy s3 is more fragile then s2, 4s, HOX. This is maily due to design and material usrd Is this of putting for you?
It would be interesting to see how many people hate their device so much so they are considering returning it, selling it. Or are very happy with it.
I don't have the Galaxy S III yet, ordering from Handtec but then the bank holiday and diamond jubilee thing so I won't receive it until maybe the 11th.
I am currently using the Galaxy Fit.
Even if it as bad as you describe I'd still love it.
It's way better than what I currently have so yeah.
I had three one x's which I ultimately returned and replaced with a galaxy s3 due to defects and problems. I'm way impressed with s3 so far. The hox lagged, overheated, died within 3 - 4 hours with average use. Even the galaxy s3 screen is ultimately better in my opinion. The only thing I would of kept hox for was tegra games, otherwise an awful device that they probably released way to early to get into the market before Samsung.

Why not just one?

I agree first batch of HOX did have several issues, did seem HTC rushed them through but since then HTC have sorted the issues out. I had 4 and the last one was brilliant no issues.
I disagree the sg3 screen is better, certainly colours are more vibrant but not natural. The viewing angles on the HOX are far superior, the text is clearer and sharper this especially evident when surfing the net. The text becomes blurry when scrolling on the sg3.

Are you serious? Return it because i`m disappointed??
I`m sorry but I disagree with some of your points and i`ve come from a Galaxy Nexus.
I absolutely hate the build quality more so now then before, it feels and looks cheap. I love the build on it. Ok a bit plasticy and not iPhone standard but its way better in the hand than i originally thought it would be.
Led notification is way too bright and visible through the surrounding body rather then just the actual place this makes the build quality look even cheaper. I like the fact a larger area glows. It makes it easy for me to see it when i come into the room for missed calls etc.
S-voice not accurate at all. Did we ever think it would be? Its not so great on the iPhone either. But I can text with it and so far its been pretty accurate.
Screen is good but not much of an improvement on the gs2. This I cant comment on as I havent had a S2. Compare to my Nexus though i think it looks stunning.
Surprisingly it lags. I have had a few instances of this. Mainly when returning to the home screen from within the settings or app menu. I`m sure this will be fixed with an update.
You might not be happy with camera quality? Noooo way!!! So impressed.
Video playback quality? So far so good. Downloaded a few 1080p`s to try. So i`ve still to see on this one.
Considering all the above there is no way I would return it. I have it down as the bset phone i have owned to date. And I have had a few!!
No returns thus far but 50% people were expecting more for their money, this is very understandable.
Screen is good but not much of an improvement on the gs2.*This I cant comment on as I havent had a S2. Compare to my Nexus though i think it looks stunning.
Having owned nexus, note, sg2, 4s, SXL, HOX I can tell you its not hugely impressive probably just behind HOX and 4s as far as screen quality is concerned.
Coming from nexus you will be impressed with gs3 camera, infact pretty much on all accounts screen etc
I've always been a smartphone addict and I've had a decent amount over the years. Untill i bought myself an Iphone 4 and i was completely happy with it for 2 years (my absolute record, smashed all other records by 18 months atleast).
I decided it was time for a change and bought myself an android device. I was curious to see if Android had caught up with IOS. In almost every aspect it has or it's closing in, except for the Marketplace, companies are still focussing IOS over Android which is annoying.
Also 5 homescreens hardcoded ? The ****?
The only real Galaxy problems I have atm:
The battery is said to be awesome, it's not. My Iphone performed better under a full days use than this device does.
It should've been metal, even though I'm getting used to the plastic.
The only people "disappointed" in this phone are the ones that believe all the pre release hype, or the ones that even after it was announced expected more. So far from what I've seen it lives up to what was announced by Samsung and then some, what';s there to be disappointed about?
no screen improvement from sgs2 to sgs3??? time to check your eyes.
it seems you have clearly decided to return the device and making reasons for that

ive had the hox the gnexus gs1 iphone 4 and 4s. This phone is the best by far. About same camera quality as 4s and sometimes even better!. Screen is fabulous! I find it the most beautifull screen ive ever seen on a phone. I think its because the glas is so thin so everything is much clearer!
Its going to be the same as the iPhone it has the same sensor & I am probably one of the few that wants to return the device. It is an amazing device but I just prefer sense and the one x so I will try and get one of those again
Gone from 4s > HOX > GS3. Been using a few days now. I like it more than I like either the 4s or the HOX.
The only issue I have right now is that reception seems to be worse than both my 4s and my HOX. I havent heard anyone else talking about that, so I suspect I may have a faulty handset.
If anyone can care to comment about their (cell) reception I would appreciate it, thanks.

Number of screens is launcher-dependent: apex and nova launcher allow for 9, I believe, while launcher 7, for example, doesn't really have screens at all.
Looks like most people who have voted are happy with their GS3, mainly inmho due to their previous mobile being a far inferior handset possibly a last year model.
quite satisfied with SGS3
Not suprinsingly, I am quite satisfied with the phone, since my previous phone was a Google Nexus One which, although it has served me well (stock -> CM7 nightlies -> texasice ICS 4.0.4), was showing his age and the ICS ROM has some glitches (camera, SoD, random reboots, etc.)
I have been reading about SGS3 for several months, and before the official anouncement, I was dragged by the hype (full hd, 1.5GHz, 2 Gb RAM, 12 Mp camera, flexible screen, liquid, ...). That said, I find the final hardware more than enough.
However, SGS3 notable strenghts for me are:
* unlocked bootloader
* rooted before release and extremely easy to follow instructions to root
* odin
* easily SIM unlocked
* alive & knowledgeable community @xda
* separated partitions
* removable battery
* external sdcard
all in all, 8/10

In the past 3 weeks I've gone from an iPhone 5 to a Galaxy s4 to an HTC one.
My small review:
For stability and ease of use the HTC one and the iPhone 5 are neck and neck. The S4 is in another galaxy far far behind. The sloppiness if the UI and the severe lag which cripples every aspect of us put the phone there. The One and the iPhone 5 have zero lag.
For screen clarity I put the HTC one and iPhone neck and neck again. The S4 is so saturated that it seems like I am playing Beach Buggy Blitz all the time.
Home screen. The iPhone 5 has the simplest home screen much like the easy version of the Galaxy s4. The HTC One however has a sleek and modern functional home screen.
Customization goes to the galaxy s4. The dev community is strong and roms are built daily. This leads to another item. The HTC one does not need a rom, it works beautifully out of the box. The reason I put so many roms on my galaxy s4 was to extend the battery and reduce lag which didn't happen.
The iPhone jailbreak community is pretty great. The items simple work and tethering is very easy to set up with mywi. The android root community wont ever be as great because of all the different phones using android compared to one iPhone which gathers all the devs.
Build quality is hands down HTC one. The iPhone is a distant second and the galaxy is exploding in a black hole in the atmosphere 2,000,000,000 light years away. The weight of the HTC one is fantastic. I don't like the featherweight phones at all. When it's in my picket I want to know it's there.
Camera: haven't tested yet.
Sound: the HTC one is loudest but not much louder than the galaxy s4 although speaker placement makes a great deal of difference. If the galaxy s4 speaker was on front it would be much louder although with less bass and more treble. The iPhone isn't anywhere near.
The battery is topped on the HTC one. It is lasting a good amount more than the galaxy did with powersave on. The iPhone is far back in line. Powersave does not slow the HTC one where it made the galaxy s4 extremely laggy.
That's it for now.

Welcome to the group!
I've been in the Android world pretty much forever but I'm recent to the HTC One. I do agree when you say "The HTC one does not need a rom, it works beautifully out of the box." because I come from a heavy rooting, unlocking, flashing background with all my past phones and to be honest I have yet to find a good reason why to do so with this phone. I believe I have no gain with further customizing what came very well delivered by factory.
The more I use my HTC One the more I find that it was the right investment (coming from the Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE). Looking forward to more exiting features in the upcoming OS upgrades!

^yep agree. 1st phone I have EVER left completely stock aside from the Nexus 4, which I ended up modding for LTE anyway. No Apex Launcher, no rooting to remove things (though I did disable Lookout, T-Mobile TV/Caller ID/My Account, Sound Hound, Dropbox, Picasa, TuneIn Radio and the stock browser in settings because I won't use them.)
They nailed this phone, nothing to change except maybe add Instagram and Google+ to Blinkfeed which I am sure they will.
If you use a cell phone as your media & social consumption device, and love to take photos/videos to share with family & friends, there's nothing better than the One. My take anyway.
I moded my phone and run the viper Rom just so I could theme everything black and red. This is the most amazing phone I have ever used in my life and I've had a new phone every few months. The only time I liked a phone this much was when I first switched to android in 2009

I agree to some extent. I had the htc one for about a month and then switched to the s4. Build quality, software quality, yes htc one is the ish. Nothing touches it. I loved that phone like I've never loved any other phone. It's just almost perfect. Even my iPhone friends like it and many asked me to trade lol. It's that awesome. Now the Samsung galaxy s4 is no slouch. I agree that stock firmware is pretty much crap and it lags and after trying roms after roms, they all just lag and are not stable even with stock base. But there are two roms that I must say have awesome battery life and stability and they recently just popped out. This phone finally has battery life that's as good as the htc one and this rom hast lagged. Agreed that htc doesn't need rooting or mod because it's prefect outbid the box. We must also remember the retarded amount of features the s4 carries. I though I would not use none but I use air view, and multi windows and I'm pretty happy thanks to this rom. But besides that, the htc one demolishes the galaxy s4

[Q] Stability questions for android users

Hey, so I've been using an iPhone for a couple years now and I will likely switch to android in the upcoming months. However, I have some reservations mainly to do w/ typing.
I recently owned an HTC aria and while it was good for the first month or so it got incredibly slow to a point where when I would write a text it would take like 4-5 seconds for the phone to catch up to my typing. It seems to be also an issue when I use my Nexus 7 1st gen w/ swiftkey tablet. It's especially bad when I try to quickly search things in Google Now or in Chrome (even worse). My friends WP8 device doesnt seem to have this problem but my iPhone 3GS (really old) has the same problem but less pronounced.
I was wondering if this issue has been solved in the newer devices like the Moto X/Nexus 4/G2.
bump?
I too have been a iPhone guy since the 1st gen. With the iOS all being the exact same, you'll love the freedom of a android. I have had androids that run slow such as the LG Mach. The low priced androids. But if you can pay all that money for a iPhone, you can afford a great android. I just got a galaxy s3 a few days ago. And it is AMAZING! the speeds, display, all around great phone. The s3 beats the iPhone 5 by a long shot
\\SGIII//
Well swiftkey does like to eat up resources. Do you happen to have many languages installed? I have a nexus 4 and so far I've never had any problems lime that. It's stable, running CM 10.2 and it's fast with no lags. Still I'd suggest you to wait for a bit as the new nexus is coming out pretty soon, and if you can buy it then go for it. I'm sure it won't disappoint you. The perks of owning a nexus means stock android ( a great plus for speed and stability), you get updates directly from Google (means you're one of the first on the list when it comes to new software) and it means cutting edge hardware at a very reasonable price.

[Q] Alpha once, nevermore? iPhone smoothness and support?

I've read and read, and looking for feedback from users who may be familiar with both platforms-the Samsung Alpha and the IPhone (5s or 6), hopefully that's not too taboo around here. I've always found XDA to be very helpful and objective, more so than random blog type reporting sites.
A little backstory: I've had a couple of bad phone purchases. Most of the problems are with the HTC models. I had a One X+, and that model wasn't supported for long due to it's mid-model upgrade chipset. it was powerful, but was often very very hot, so much so that plugged in and using navigator it would shut down. Not plugged in it would kill battery very quickly. The One came out short time later and HTC announced One X+ would not longer be updated. I hate the trend for bigger and bigger phones, I really like to use with one hand. I invested in HTC One Mini, thinking it was very similar to full size (M7) model, especially from initial (seemingly biased) reviews now. Initially it seemed fine, but after installing a few apps it's very slow and jerky most of the time. Especially long lag between apps, attributed mostly to it's small RAM size of 1gig. It's a nicely made phone for the most part tho. It took weeks to realize this, and after a factory reset it improved but shortly got worse again.
Most of my friends have either the SGS5, or the majority use Iphones (5s or 6). These have become my options as well, except that SGS5 and iP6 are larger than I'd like.
Enter the SG Alpha. My concern is long term support for this phone, and smooth operation without killing the battery or jerky throttled down operation. Would you say this phone works smoothly, and if you can compare to IOS phones? I really don't want to buy a Iphone, but most everyone tells me they just work and I'm tired of fighting, hacking and modifying Android (which hopefully doesn't sit too poorly in this forum ) I also like Widgets, and IOS does not have those.
Thanks!

Alpha is best compact phone ,
Exynos 5430 is very fast and never lagged .
Phone is very fluid with Stock rom , and overall Best phone .
Camera is very superb overall , but average on low light . Video recording quality is mind blowing and Beyond imagination .
i was confused between Alpha and ip5s , but i choose Alpha ,
Main reason was Alpha has 32 gb . While 5s priced nearly same but only 16 gb .
and 32 gb was out of my budget .
if u have unlimited budget than u can go for iphone 6 64 gb too.
If not than go for Alpha

With this phone you cant go wrong on performance, i have it for a month now and i am amased how smooth and fast it works. Tried most of the functions that it offers and they work pretty fine, also like you, for me this size is the last acceptable one and it lays comfortably on the hand. Now i havent used an iphone, neither i will, but i can say for sure that it feels better than any apple products around i have had in my hands to test. Battery is good even for the 1860 maph that it has i can take out a day and a half or maybe two with 4 hours SOT, plus it is removable and its expected a new more powerfull one from Samsung. As for the android since you already have used a phone with it i really wouldnt go much deeper into it. So finally my opinion is that you should defenetly choose the alpha.
