"Tango" and future "Apollo" update - Nokia Lumia 800

Hello, i'm looking to buy a new phone and the nokia lumia has caught my attention.
I've been reading about it and understand that we'll be seeing 2 major updates this year.
Will the lumia 800 support the new windows mobile 8 platform?
I expect it to support Tango, but what about Apollo?
Or should i just wait for next generation nokia?

No one knows the answer to that question yet. But if any current wp7 device is going to get that update, the Lumia 800 is probably it. It is almost a wp7 equivalent of a nexus device.
But if you don't want this phone as it is now, don't buy it ;-)

I'm just waiting for nokia to start pushing out the current firmware update to my Cyan... Still only got the 7740 firmware with 8107.79 OS.

What are your experiences with the phone?
Do the phones that sell here in Denmark also have issues with batterylife, random reboots etc.?

I'm experiencing pretty bad battery time now. Yesterday I had to charge it twice to get through a full day. That is unacceptable! My old X10 holds battery for a day and half easily doing the same tasks.
I hope Nokia is very very aware of these issues and is working their asses off to get it solved.

I bought mine in Germany back in November. Kept it on 2G here in Denmark until the update that fixed the battery issues (last update).
After that update I have kept it on 3G and gotten about one and a half or two days of battery life from it.
I don't know about the status of the battery fix in Denmark. They may very well be on the phones in store (go check ). I found the demo fw for Denmark on the fw site Nokia has.
BUT if you want the phone look outside Denmark.. They are horribly overpriced here.. Some places twice the price of the same phone in Germany or England.
Regarding update to Apollo.. I see no technical reason for lumia 800 not to receive the update.

Hahah slap af en dansker tråd
Translation: "For danes only"

Roughly the same story as jlor except I bought mine in Denmark. Like arkedk, I had very poor battery life on my first phone so I returned it. The new one has up to around one and a half day of battery life with normal use. Roughly the same as with the old iPhone 3GS. I think there is a very high error rate on this battery type.
And yeah, it must be pretty popular here in Denmark
Although I'm not so sure that I should have bought this phone.

Microsoft have confirmed that all current wp7 handsets will get apollo in a response to Eldar (aka the spaz idiot who sould be shot). Tango int going to be that big really just about adding more languages and cheaper hansets to get a wider market. Apollo on the other hand looks to be even bigger than mango

Thanks for them answers.
Definatly gonna get me a winphone one day. But i'll wait a bit longer until either a new version of Lumia 800 comes out or nokia/ms whichever it is releases a firmware that fixes all these issues. Battery and camera in particular.
I'll stick to my damaged htc hero for now

Ok, I'm going to elaborate this a bit.
Why I am disappointed:
This phone is supposed to be Microsofts and Nokias big gamble to reclaim the mobile phone market. Nokia economic situation isn't very good to say the least but they are still the largest manufacturer of mobile phones world wide. However Apple is close behind and so is HTC and Samsung and they are gaining market shares.
So I had expected this phone to be Microsofts version of a nexus phone. A showcase phone if you like to benchmark other Windows phones against. In my oppionion they failed to do this by rushing it to the market. There are just too many flaws for me to be completely happy with it.
I read a lot of good reviews of WP7 devices regarding their battery life. It is supposed to lightweight and without the pletora of third party battery draining services running in the background. And it is. Many WP7 devices get great battery life. But this phone does not have good battery life. Hands down, you are not going anywhere over night with this phone without a charger. Even if you dont use it at all, you will still be cutting it very close. Even with my SGS 2 running overclocked at 1600 MHz I could easily go up to 3 days if I was mindful of battery my usage.
The camera is usable. It's not great but good enough if the motive is more important than the quality of the picture. But it's not going to wow anyone. I had expected more from Nokia though. I am used to Nokia cameras beeing the best on the market from previous experience.
Sound quality in the jack stick is an insult. It's horrible even if you have very low standards and it will hurt your ears. If you buy this phone, go to a Telenor store and get the black BH-111 bluetooth headset for 199 kr. It has a decent sound output if you throw away the earbuds that come with it and get some better ones. (The tranciever is detachable and has a mini-jack output and a build in microphone)
But there are some good things about the phone too:
WP7 is an absolute joy to use. I love it. I come from the SGS 2 and I did a lot of modding, exceeding 2 GB of custom firmware downloads each month. But I don't miss that at all with this phone, because everything just runs smoothly. I have had a few app crashes, mainly starting settings and the browser, but I can live with that.
I like the design and the build quality is pretty good although the buttons do feel flimsy on some devices. I am not too fussed about that though. The curves makes the phone nice to hold, but the 4 corners aren't that comfortable when you hold it for longer periods of time like 5 minutes plus. The curved glass is great though and it sits close to flush with the rest of the phone. The plastic feels nice when you hold it and looks pretty good too.
Call quality is pretty good in my oppinion and so is the antenna. I get better signal strength with this phone than I did with the SGS 2.
Bottom line: I expected a better device from Nokia. There is no way in h*** this phone will last for two weeks on stand by which is in fact what they claim on their web site and even if you call Nokia Care.

Good idea ;-)

The batter is bad compared to other devices yes. My Xperia Play I could easily get two days out of. Even three. Even so I charged every single night because I want full juice at the start of every day. So the worse battery life does not really affect me even though I know it's there. The camera and audio is confirmed by Nokia to be adressed on future seperate updates that hopefully will fix the issues.

But whats the point really if the majority of the userbase are still complaining about bad batterylife.
I'd say camera/audio comes in second until the phone can last more than 24hours on whats supposed to be regular usage. I hope its faulty software and not hardware.
For all 3 parts, battery/audio/camera

Amen.
I'm not too optimistic about the battery issue being software related.

I agree the battery is very bad. I'm coming from a phone that used 1% battery in 3 hours standby time. With very minimal use I could use that phone for a week without charge but I charged it every night anyway. Coming to this is a world of difference.
I'm just saying that I can live with it.

With light to medium use I am getting one and a half days use on 3G. My LG 900 struggled to last 10 hours.

got this phone 3 days ago and experiencing absolutely retarded battery life. not getting more than 6-7 hours with MINIMAL usage and all chats logged off. WTF Nokia?
PS: My other phone is the Galaxy Note which has phenomenal battery life.

Im not from Denmark...but I am close enough
I bought the NL800 a few days ago with fw 11501, and have no problems with battery at all, and I am on 3g all the time, I play music, surf, update for email every 1 hour, and my battery last aprox. 1 and a half day..And that is what I would expect from this device with my use.
Only thing bugging me right now, is of course the brightness bug and the poor quality in music playback. But those are scheduled to be fixed, so if that don't take forever, then the NL800 is a keeper for me.
But on another side..the screen is a tad small, but I will get used to it...if not, I will probably get the NL900/910 or w/e they decide to call it in europe

Same as above, i have firmware 11501, and at first battery was bad. But the more i use the phone let it go right down and charge it seems to have been last longer. So far i have been using it for 15 hours. Listening to music, facebook, emails as soon as they come in. 3G, texts, facebook chat. I am a really heavy user just now as its the honeymoon period. But anyway, the only thing that is really annoying me is the camera and the audio. I listen to my audio with headphones on (Dr. Dre Beats) so i get the base im after. But it shouldn't take a £80 pair of headphones to get the audio quality im after. Nokia get an update out now!

my lumia will arrive tomorrow, and then i will test the battery life agains my radar and my titan, my titan's battery last for atleast two days with minimal usage. same goes for the radar.

[Q] AT&T Atrix Exchange/Return Options

Picked up an Atrix March 17th and have been having issues with it, not really sure what the best option is as far as replacement vs exchange vs return
Replacement would be fine if it's just a defective unit, but how would I know until AFTER It's replaced?
Exchange would also be great but what else is currently out that can compare? I only see LG Thrill and GS2, neither of which will be available by my April 17th return/exchange cutoff date.
Return would also work, but won't ATT insist on charging a restock fee? Would I retain my upgrade eligibility after a straight return?
Anyway, heres the issues I have been having
AT&T - Rooted .26 updated to .57, not re-rooted, not unlocked
Launcher Pro, no other major mods. No Auto sync'ing, no background data. Auto brightness outside, darkest setting indoors (8hrs a day indoors), BT off, Wifi off, GPS off.
1. Battery life - It is much lower than expected even with relatively light use, Drains 10-20% in 1st hour of use typically, Down to 30-40% by lunchtime typically.
2. Overheating - The device get abnormally hot on the bottom, typically within 1minute of use. Abnormal battery drain seems to be associated with the heat, but it only happens about 1/2 the time
3. Lockups/reboots - It locks up pretty regular and totally shut off a few times.
4. Wifi - It's terrible! Doesn't maintain connection and has very poor range vs other phones/devices on the same networks. I lose connection from LR to Bathroom, it's only about 15ft away with 1 sheet rock wall in between
5. "4G" Capping to 3G speeds is VERY annoying. What am I paying for getting a 4G device if theres actually no 4G? (And yes I know they are rolling out update to "Fix" this in April...Doesn't change the fact that they sold me a vette and I got a civic)
6. Colors - Am I the only one that's noticed the terrible hue's in the yellow/brown/orange color range? Maps roads seriously look like baby puke green on my device. I've compared with SGS, Iphone 4, Iphone 3gs and blackberry's...The colors are definately WAYYY off.
Outside those issues It's been a pretty solid device, very fast and responsive with Launcher Pro loaded. Love the fingerprint scanner, resolution, HDMI + media player. I'm leaning towards straight return, use old phone till SGS2 releases, or maybe Iphone4. Ideas/suggestions?
your performance issues are something is running out of control. Rapid battery drain and warmth indicate someting is running.
My phone never locks up, never reboots, and battery lasts all day with heavy use.
I returned my Atrix as well. I think there will definitely be a bit of a wait before any of the phones you mentioned come out. I am using an old phone at the moment and am biding my time until the next batch of phones come out.
Patience is key.

Yea I had the same thought but couldn't figure it out. Looking at task manager/process explorer didn't show anything actively doing anything, or at least not to the point of extreme battery drain and heating.

[Q] iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy SII

Hello all,
I'm currently a Samsung galaxy s2 user, just switched from using the iphone 4 because of all the rumors about the galaxy s2. And till now im impressed by everything it has to offer except its battery life.
I love my galaxy s2, but the only problem is battery life, and thats the main reason im being pulled over to buy the iphone 4s!!..
getting that isnt the problem..
I tried way too many custom ROMS, different kernels etc, but ended up with an average 6-7 hr battery life with heavy usage and that doesnt even involve listening to music while commuting. If i did that as well, im sure my battery wud barely last 5 hrs... which isnt ideal at all, im sure everyone feels the same way... Right now im on stock KI3 firmware, rooted. KI3 is slightly better than what bell gave me as stock - KG2.
now i want some strong points of why i shouldn't move back. I've been an iphone user since the 2g iphone and it was amazing!
Only if i could improve my battery life on galaxy s2 i wouldnt have these temptations to move to iphone again.
Should I move back to the iPhone?
no, galaxy s2 is the best !xD
my battery is very good so i don't care just try some kernels or roms
iPhone 4s is much better than SGS2 IMO.
Better size, better display (imo SAMOLED+'s colours are too cartoony), better resolution, better camera, better audio, much better battery and a much faster processor.
Also, iOS has proper dual core optimizations and actually makes good use of the A5 chip, wheras with SGS2, you'll have to wait for a stable ICS rom comes out.
Despite the negativity of the i4s, I personally think it'll be one of the most underrated phones this year.
But that's just my opinion.
My s2 often gives me 16+ hrs of heavy usage (my phone is from the first batch) my other half got a white s2 a few weeks ago and he has dreadful battery life. Both same firmware ect. Although mine is made in korea both battery and handset. His is made in china. Different colour mainboards too. Mines blue his is green.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Well just to make the point clear, you will never get your sgs 2 to have as much of a battery life as the IP4S. iOS is simply much better at handling battery life than android.
Now it depends on what you want really. Do you value battery life over functionality/choice?
Personally what do you expect of a phone with a dual core 1.2ghz processor? If you expect 12 hrs now that is simply idiocy. You have a laptop that can do that? I don't cuz mine lasts 2 hrs with heavy usage. I haven't read of any laptop being able to last 12 hrs of heavy usage either. No I don't expect a laptop to have a battery life like that either. Now this is a phone with a processor better than most if not all netbooks, it is not going to have a 8hr+ battery life with heavy usage just like a laptop.
I feel your pain with battery life. Also, screen burn in isshowing its face on mine too. But threw iphone is waaaaaay too locked down to make it an easy choice.
Sounds like you dont have things set up correctly to me or your using some resource hogging apps.
Im on wifi all day, send between 40-70 sms a day, couple of phone calls, tweetdeck auto updating, around 20mins of music (well, podcast, but it is an audio file), auto updating of all my apps enabled in the market and the obvious hour or so web browsing and 10mins or so of minecraft when I sneak off for a break in the toilets and I get home with around 30%
Dont forget, your also comparing a closed up OS which has been around for a fair old while to an open one which is still reasonably new which each phone manufacturer has his way with before chucking the phones out
Im not going to fight the android corner as you admitted yourself you are 'looking for reasons to not move back'. Which sounds as though you have already made up your mind.
If you want to go get a shiny fragile phone with a half eaten apple on it by all means do Glad you've at least tried Android though, your light years ahead of 90% of Iphone owners who live around here lol.
must be something thats killing your battery in the background. I quite easily get over a day and between 5-6 hours screen on time. Longest ive had was 6hr 38 mins screen on.
Download better battery stats and see whats running in the background.
Lawl you all are missing a very important statement in his post. "HEAVY USAGE"
What is heavy usage? Web browsing, playing a 3d game, watching a video, recording a video, taking pictures, etc. So of course he is going to get 6-7hrs of battery life.
I agree with the above post. find out whats draining your battery. Shouldn't be that low...unless you are just sitting on your sofa browsing constantly because your so excited about a new phone like i was.
Also you can buy a dock charger and extra batteries set for cheap together (ankhers set) so you never have to plug your phone into a charger again
But it sounds like you have alot of money to burn...then why not...being in a locked system isnt so bad when your willing to just buy every app and media at premium prices and your happy with the interface
Thanks for the quick reply guys, and yes, i m loving my galaxy s2 as i mentioned earlier. And yes, im a heavy user, around 100 texts, playing 3d games (sandstorm, brothers in arms etc). I barely keep wifi on as i haf 6gb of data which is almost unlimited. and im getting 7 hrs, which apparently seems to be good. If thats the case then I have nothing to complain about...
And in terms of money, lol i dont have any... its just i could get an iphone if i sold this one... no way i could afford to keep both!
Stick to the SGS2 and wait for the SGS3 till then.
Hmm, If were I, I would like the iPhone 4S. The iOS 5's new feature iCloud and iMessenge really attracted me.
And can get many apps for it:
http://www.enolsoft.com/blog/best-free-iphone-4s-apps/
SGS2! iPhone4S is inferior in many many ways. It's a ****ty phone.
/ownership bias
u should wait untill the ICS rom is out. that should improve the battery life, because it will be customized to a dual core processor.
Iphone 4S is quite a good phone, but I'm personally against Apple's politics regarding software and price. I don't want Itunes, no format support like FLAC or MKV, no Flash. Also Android has more customization abilities in themes and menues.
I like the big screen and weight on the GS2. Well, the battery life could be better on SGS 2. But there's a Samsung 2000mah battery available at the moment and you can easily replace the battery.
I have been in the same boat in fact I have swapped my Iphone 4 for a SGS2 three times, until finally I realise that the SGS2 really is a SuperPhone.
The reason you will find battery life not quite as good as the Iphone4, is basically down to the fact the Iphone is not actually doing a lot.
I waited until iOs5 before swapping back to this truly, greatest phone since the HD2, iOs5 really is a disappointment to say the least, you get a pull down bar that kinda copies Android to a point, but fails in the fact with its Iphone basic-ness yet again, the weather links to the most basic of weather apps, the notification animations appear at the top all very nicely, but the top bar doesn't state that notifications are listed within, they tried to match the Androids version but in true Iphone style, didn't leave in the design to allow users to feel its their notifications.
One thing you will never get away from even jailbroken is the fact you are not free to choose...you will never own your Iphone, it owns you, Android on the other hand is the opposite and with the SGS2, its power and freedom is far more adaptable than the iphone4.

Mugen Battery 3400 mAh for LG Optimus 7

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any review about this battery on LG Optimus 7? The 1700 mAh is also welcome.
My original battery is poor compared to my wife's Samsung Galaxy S with almost similar operation (WiFi, HSDPA/3G, email sync. etc.)
I have a good experience wit Mugen battery from past with Sony Ericsson Xperia X1.
Hayenadeblue
While I was looking for a bigger battery
http://www.mugen-power-batteries.co...-for-lg-optimus-7-e900-with-battery-door.html
that looks a little too big for me. If I was getting the titan, I might consider it, but one of the things I like about this phone is the size.
I was thinking about just getting a second battery to carry with me as nessasary.
Thanks Etaduck for your comment,
I don't mind the size. But I need to hear something about performance. Quite jealous with my wife with her Galaxy S that can stand for about 2 days.
BTW, in my E900, I've already disabled the location service, bluetooth, feedback, internet sharing, set the screen brightness to the lowest, and enabled the battery saver. I was initially on open carrier firmware with the similar battery issue, then change it to vodafone firmware because of internet sharing and 7740 update.
Kind regards,

just wondering, how long do you get out of it now?
with light usage for me I get around 2 days, sometimes more but rarely, but if i'm using it a lot on the internet seem to get a day to a day and a half, what surprised me after reading on this forum was to completly run down battery, then plug phone in but don't turn it on, start phone, after 4 seconds put the charger on, seemed to help with me, no idea why however
before I did that it would last around half a day, maybe its my imagination, but it seemed to help.
I'm also considering getting the smaller mugen battery when I have some spare money, the huuuge one just seems to disfigure the phone too much.
After coming from a Diamond, I really loved HTC's extended battery cover, shame theres nothing like it for this handset.
Hi Stead,
I've got about 16 hours so far. Around 5 am to around 9 pm at night. I've tried your method but there are no improvement at all.
I hope that the option to togle between 3g/HSDPA and EDGE/GPRS in 8107 update will solve this battery issue for me at least.
Update: With 8107 update, limited data to edge, still with standard battery, I could get 1 day 14 hours roughly 2 daytime and 1 night. Exchange, gmail, live, nextgen reader, accuweather running in background. Hook to wifi at home and office bcoz talkmobile edge is the worst here.
I wanted to buy it but after mango update in november battery lasts longer.... i use it for my job, wich is talk, send message, mms, gmail and hotmail acc, and i got 3.5-4 days with around 3 h talking during those days, about 50 msg-s..
I do not use 3g if i am not using internet, which is rarely, screen is automatic, feedback off, location on,bluetooth off, wireless off, gmail is set to 1 hour.I dont overcharge battery, and never charge over usb....never less then 3.5 days.If i use 3g its 2 days top..
I ordered the 1700 battery, its not a huge increase, but it easily lasts a day with heavy usage now, tend to get around 2 days with moderate usage?
Haven't tried turning 3g off yet, so may give that ago after reading djuricn's post!
I've also noticed giving it little charges a lot seems to make the phone only last a day at best, I try to leave it run down, and fully charge it whenever possible.
One final thing, using zune with a usb3 port seems to charge just as fast as the wall charger around an hour for me, and on the pc using zune with a normal usb2 port seems to charge quicker aroud 2 hours, if zune is closed it seemingly takes a full day to charge via usb

my personal experiance is that the mugen ones are of better quality, although I think its hit and miss with the cheaper ones, I've bought cheaper replacement batteries and I always find they become unusable within a year and charge times rapidily decline, some of my friends have been unlucky enough to have a bettery last a mere 2 months before failing completly.
Think of batteries you buy, you buy the branded ones for more and they tend to last, you buy the cheapest ones and they never do, same with these batteries imo

Totally agree with you, it is better to get branded batteries from official sources with extra warranty and customer support care, etc; definitely worth the extra cost on Mugen. And performance is worth it too.

@Etaduck
for LG Optimus 7 they also have smaller battery that doesnt require extra sized backdoor. It is 1700mAh and it is still much more powerful than the factory battery:
http://www.mugen-power-batteries.co...h-extended-battery-for-lg-optimus-7-e900.html
Do not forget Mugen Facebook discount for that
This battery is cool!
Managed to get 4 days out of my phone with light use, just sms and phone calls
Its not how i normally use my phone, but if i'm going to be out for a few days without access to a charger I now do this.
turn off data connection, change connection speed for 3g to edge, i'm honestly surprised the difference this made, I just turned on data connection for the few minutes i check stuff on the internet and turn it back off.
Like i said, I normally don't do this, but if I know I won't be able to charge it for a few days this is for me until I give in and buy the bulky extended battery
I had ordered a Battery-Pack from the Mugen-Shop (link in the first article), but it was never delivered (over 2 months of waiting). The trader dosen't care, says i have to prove i never had recieved the parcel and PayPal says, it's to late to return my money.
So, take care! Maybe the batteries are top, the customer-service is flop. They were shiped from China, so the custom control on the border is the next problem.

[Q] should i upgrade to one x+?

I am currently using an Iphone 4s jailbreak. I've been waiting for the one x+ to be released here in my country and now its released. But I'm reading some reviews and comments here and in the net that its camera is bad and the battery is not an ugrade from the one x. Do you thing its worth it if i go to one x+?
Coming from iPhone, it might not live up to your expectations right out of the box, also being first droid - typing this from my X+, which I enjoy using...don't know how you used Apple in terms of screen-on time and gaming, might be different - but again, worth giving it a try! And we already got few Roma and awesome devs

i came from htc sensation xe before i went from iphone 4s. they are both great phone but for my experience the 4s is much better from xe. But I really like the one x+ when it was first anounced but reading the issues of it im having a hard time to decide.
I've only had mine for a couple of days, but it hasn't disappointed me yet. I was expecting to have a hard time getting through the day on a single charge. No one thinks about how much more they're playing around with their phone when the first get it. Right away they want to say the battery sucks. I'm sure when I start using it more normally I'll have no problem getting through the day. As compared to the One X, the One X+ has a bigger battery but a quad core processor, so it's probably a wash. I haven't used the camera enough to say anything bad about it. So far I don't have a problem with it.
If you want a good camera, Buy a camera, not a phone... I know I'm in a very tiny minority, but if you're going out and shooting a gazillion pictures, buy a real camera, If you're doing something where quality is your number one concern, buy a real camera, if all you want is to take an occasional snapshot or primarily put your photos on facebook then just about every camera phone made in the last 2 years will do that job just fine...If you want to use instagram, who cares about quality since everyone who uses that app believes bad quality = TRUE ART
That said the One X+ camera is very nice, it IS noticably better than any of the other cameras I've had (including the S3 which couldnt nail exposure at all)
Beyond that.. battery life depends on how you use it and what you use it for, I really dont have a problem with it, which is to say "I can easily get through a day on a charge without panicking or going to extremes with my battery management" Yes, if you pull your phone out and play games and stream videos constantly on the thing for 4 hours straight your phone is going to die... But if you just use it normally, ie, texting, maybe a video here or there, some music, a bit of web browsing and maybe a little navigation thrown in for good measure, You should manage a solid 14-15 hours with a couple hours of screen on time... I will say when its on standby it sips power pretty nicely, the battery saver core does seem to work well... its not a phone for going off for 2-3 days where you wont be able to charge it at all, but very VERY few smartphones can do that (Unless you BARELY use the thing) but its certainly not going to go dead if you play one video on it...

Amen, someone with some sense about smartphones. Now a day's people expect these things to perform miracles, lol!
Dont want to bash iPhone or so, the phone build quality is great.
But in my opinion Android is just beter for the people that visit this site, also the One X+ just looks cool.

A question for those of you having the phone for 6 months or more

I was planning to buy this phone now since it's price has reduced and came across this thread about battery behaviour https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/help/issue-2-crazy-battery-behaviours-t3680766
Is this really impacting a big percentage of phones? I'm based in EU if the EU version is more or less impacted. Any other major issues I should be aware of before ordering? Oddly enough the Moto Z Play is more expensive so I can the have the regular Z and the battery mode for the same price as the play.
Thanks
Modern battery will be soon or late degradate. Its normal. Dont think about it. I have bought moto couple of month and didnt see anything like that. Be honest, I am dissapointed in android phone with that price. Come from wp 640.

Yes, but on this phone it degradates really too early, well before ONE year of normal use, when all my previous phones had this issue after at least two years.
It works fine for about 7-9 months, then it degradates very fast.
Even worse is the fact that for some bug in SW, when it begins to degradate phone is unable to start (or restart) even with 25% or more battery level....
