Ordered my ATT Galaxy Note - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Ordered my Galaxy Note this morning at 12:10am from ATT. Will ship Feb. 16th.Was able to move my unlimited Iphone plan over the the unlimited LTE plan.

Moved to ATT Note General
We have a ATT note forum now. Please post all relevant threads there. It has been highlighted in a sticky.

thank you, did not know about that until now.

How did you move your keep your unlimited data plan? I just tried ordering and it wants me to choose a new data plan?

unlimited iphone plan transfer
had to go to att.com and go to upgrade phone, otherwise it wanted a new activation. what i did not know was if i needed to also pick unlimited messaging which was on my plan also. just picked unlimited data, it warned if i did not, it would be lost.

If you guys look hard enough the same unlimited data plan for LTE is still on there ($30 unlimited). I did this with an upgrade.
Picture proof below.

As long as you keep any kind of smartphone, you can keep your unlimited data plan, even if it's LTE

Got my pre-order in today as well. Can't wait!

Same here; can't wait for the 17th and hopefully a quick ics ROM.

Amazon.com Rezound $229.99 upgrade price ...

so I see Amazon's offering this phone for $229.99 as an upgrade($199.99 if you are new)...
I am wondering though, if we do the $229.99 deal, is it possible to keep current plan or are we forced to choose one of the new tiered data packages?
Have to ask VZW to make sure you don't lose unlimited.

From my understanding VZW does not currently force grandfathered customers with the unlimited plan to change when they upgrade to a new device. I've verified this with VZW Customer Service last month. This doesn't mean it will always be this way so I would take advantage somewhat soon before they close the loophole.
Maybe Jayochs or another member can chime in to verify.
heh.. I figured it out. it first asks you to pick your minute plan, then your data plan. I wasn't getting past the minute page because my minute plan is not listed(I have 200 minutes for $29/month)... but once you get to the data page, you can just check off the tab that specifies you want to use your exsisting unlimited.
considering id be saving $70 off of Verizon's price I could just select the 450 minute - $39 plan & then call Verizon afterwards to get it changed back.

I have not jumped onto this ship yet. That said, VZW rep swore to me less than a week ago that if we have unlimited 3G then we will have unlimited 4G. She said there was nothing to note in the record; it was simply the way it is.
If you have unlimited data now, you will continue to have unlimited data. Makes no difference if you have a 3G or 4G phone.

Data plan on upgrade

I currently have an infuse 4g and still have my unlimited data plan. I know a couple of ATT reps are on the forum here, do you know if I will be able to stay grandfathered into unlimited data if I upgrade to the note? I was able to when I upgraded from my captivate to the infuse, really hoping I can with the note.

From what I understand, yes, but your safest bet is to go into the store to preorder to make sure it happens (I think). I've also read you want to be sure to call customer service when you receive your phone and talk to them BEFORE you activate -- I guess some people have also lost unlimited data this way.
Still kicking myself for dropping my unlimited data last summer to "save money" for vacation
I wont be preordering, as I need to wait for summer to build up some excess cash. Ill be using my dad's upgrade, then switching the phone to my line. There isn't LTE in my area yet, but I know there will be in the future, and I don't want any caps if at all possible. I usually use at least 2 gigs a month already, and the hspa+ in my area is really only marginally faster than 3g. Once I'm on LTE I know that I will definitely use more than 3 gigs a month, so hopefully I will be able to keep unlimited.
Anybody who has unlimited and is upgrading, please weigh in to confirm.
If I can't keep it, I may try to convince my parents to switch to sprint where I can have unlimited and stay future proof as data speeds increase.

Just so you know before you go making big decisions, there have already been speculations of Sprint stopping their unlimited plans for LTE phones. And since WiMax is now dead, their other 4g phones will be relegated to their current coverage with no expansion, which isn't that great IMO. I also think they will not be grandfathering people from their current unlimited plans as they didn't with the hotspots. Other carriers carried over grandfathered plans on hotspots and so they did with phones but sprint just said, Sorry we don't offer it anymore and all the sudden people lost unlimited data. Though they did offer people relatively cheap options to buy out of their broadband contracts it still blows
If you're not using your own upgrade to get the Note then there should be no worry of losing the unlimited data from upgrading your dad's line. I would definitely call customer service and let them know before you put your SIM card in the note. Tell them what you're doing and that you want to make sure you don't lose your unlimited data when activating the new phone.
this phone so far is not able to be pre-ordered in any AT&T store (unless they changed in the last 4 hours.)
Liq is correct, i spoke with a gal at AT&T Premier support whilst i was pre-ordering the Note on the AT&T Premier website and she wrote down on my "file" that i am mostly concerned with losing my grandfathered-in unlimited data plan. she said as long as i call them back after i receive the Note in the mail and have THEM activate it that i will not lose the grandfathered-in unlimited data plan. to activate it yourself is where you can lose the grandfathered-in unlimited data plan...total crap IMO but there it is.

Yes grandfathered, different data plan / billing code to support LTE but still unlimited none the less. Also the LTE android devices usually have visual voicemail like the iPhones included in the data plan unless you request to opt out of it.

Not always the case, but when it does happen is usually for 1 of 2 reasons. 1.) you just put your sim card in the new phone and never called at&t to have the IMEI number updated on your account and the correct corresponding unlimited data plan added changed over. P.S. Galaxy note requires a LTE SIM... (SIM ONLY SHOWS GLOBE DOESN'T SAY AT&T ON IT) 2.) You upgraded online, especially when through a third party such as Amazon, and didn't pay attention to the radio buttons and choose lets say 3GB instead of unlimited.

I work for AT&T on the business side, and cosign what Dan says.
Sent from my hand crippling Epic 4g Touch
I Pre ordered online and the only way it would let me add the phone to cart was to select a data plan. Im grandfathered and lte personal smart phone unlimited was one of the options. Any guess to which one I picked. Lol.

I had to choose a new data plan when I pre-ordered 2 of them on Sunday. Unlimited 4G/LTE personal data plan for $30/month was one of the options. So I chose that. There were about 5 other Unlimited plans available as well.
comma, i noticed several "unlimited" plans as well...i thought AT&T did away with those for new plans. is it just a play-on-words that they are stating that for a new data plan now??

If you do it like this, you don't lose your unlimited data. Anyone who had unlimited data, and felt like they had to change to a 3 gig plan or something else simply missed the option.
The reason it makes everyone choose a "new" data plan, is because the system codes are different from unlimited 3g/hspa+ and unlimited LTE. (and unlimited iphone for that matter.)

They only show up if you currently have an unlimited data plan, if you are not on unlimited, you will not see the options. Just like any new customers only see the 300MB/3GB/5GB Data, and not the 200MB/2GB/4GB data plans anymore for the $5 difference, which is a better deal anyways vs $10 additional regularly.

Weird, I'm currently on a grandfathered unlimited plan, yet when I attempt to do a pre-order, there is no option for me to choose "unlimited" at all, just the limited plans... :/

HTC One & Medianet

So I got my One yesterday and got the new SIM card provisioned. I woke up this morning with a text message saying my device needs an LTE data plan and to call customer service. I don't need LTE and sure don't want to give up my unlimited data for $20 a month. After adding a MediaNet APN everything has been working fine. So are AT&T just being their normal typical self and trying to get me to upgrade when I don't need to?
What phone are you coming from? If it wasn't an lte phone the message is prolly just them saying you need to be on the lte unlimited plan. Same thing happened when I switched my wife from an iPhone to my old one x. You'll be able to keep your unlimited

Coming from an Inspire 4G. I wasn't aware they had an unlimited LTE plan?
Medianet only works on nonsmartphone/phone that att doesn't recognize. In this case, they probably know you are using smartphone and probably will change it to one of those regular data plan

Well... it's "Unlimited" meaning that you get 5 Gigs of full speed data and then when you reach that cap, you get throttled back.
There are ways to work around the throttling though.
You're not provisioned on AT&T's end to have LTE yet. I had the same problem going from my S2 to the S3 last year in June. It took like 5 minutes to fix. Just make absolutely certain that they put you on the Unlimited LTE plan. If I had not checked mine after they did it, I wouldn't have caught that they put me on 5 Gig plan instead of my unlimited plan.
Thanks for the info guys. I have been on this data plan going back to the original Samsung Blackjack. Have used it with the BJ, BJII as well as Inspire 4G. I know the plan works on my phone. If they give me any grief about changing data plans I will post my trip report here. Hopefully it was just a canned message they send out to scare people into giving up their unlimited data :good:

Never, ever give it up. AT&T has not changed their grandfather policy yet. If they try to kick you off, raise hell and threaten to take your business elsewhere. (as a threat.)

AT&T's system should actually automatically bump you to the appropriate plan after a few days. They certainly don't offer MediaNet anymore, and neither do they offer a compatible "unlimited data" plan to transition you over to. In order for you to keep any kind of unlimited plan at this point, you need to have had the $30 unlimited data plan that was offered after the MediaNet plan was no longer offered. Even the $30 "unlimited data" plan is not really unlimited as it is throttled after 5GB.
I'm surprised they didn't catch you when you got your Inspire 4G. But, that was also a 3G phone that had a plan compatible with those previous phones you listed.
LTE phones have special plans (not really special but has a different name), which is why you are getting that text message. Watch your account/bill. It'll switch you over automatically if you don't do it manually first.

[Q] Need help on adding a line and keep unlimited data

I am about to add another line on my "share everything" family plan. I am in need of Internet at my home, and would like to buy a 350$ line and do a assumption of liability account transfer. Problem is I am on a share everything and one line doesn't go out until 2015 (The line I'd like to put unlimited data on) So my question is. How would I go about adding another line and getting unlimited Internet on my s4? While only paying 2 lines.
Galaxy s4 - ends 2015
Galaxy S3 - contract ended can cancel anytime
New line unlimited data.
Any help would be nice, don't want to pay $400 for Internet setting a line up and Verizon find a way to rip it away of me. **I am trying not to let my s3 get the unlimited line** Could I also keep my same numbers? I am new about how all this works. And do you think it's a good investment? Or do you think verizon will rip the plan away from me in a few months either way for all grandfather users?

If you have an existing line with unlimited data, you'll want to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367734 - "How to upgrade without losing unlimited data".
If you don't, I don't think VZ is selling unlimited data plans any longer.
I am buying the unlimited line off ebay. Which would mean I wouldn't need a line and would get rid of my on where contracts up. How would I go about setting these 2 lines up where
1 has unlimited
No more share everything family plan
Keep numbers
And s4 Getz the unlimited plan (which its current one will not go out until 2015) example could I switch my s4 and s3 lines so my s4 is off contract and switch it with the newly unlimited plan putting my s3 on contract again till 2015? Get numbers changed back and somehow get off share everything and keep unlimited data line I purchased for my s4?

I suggest you read the thread that I pointed you to. It tells you how people have kept their existing unlimited service and transferred it to a new S4. I've not done this, so can't give you the real-world experience that you'll get from that thread. (And buying an unlimited line on eBay? I don't think so - if you buy a phone off of eBay that has unlimited service currently, you'll need to re-apply for service and won't get unlimited AFAIK.)

It is assumption of liability where I take access over another customers plan who originally had unlimited data. I'll read through the thread again see if I can find anything useful, seems like I'm going to have to go up to verizon to make sure they don't mess anything up and I won't waste $400 :/ Basically I need home internet and I'd rather pay 30 for Verizon each month since I get little over 45 mbp/s in my location.
If I am understanding correctly your wanting to merge the unlimited plan/line your getting on eBay with your share everything plan you currently have right?
I don't you can do that, you ate going to need to leave them separate.

Not 100% correct I want a nationwide plan and off share everything then accept the new link to avoid losing unlimited data. Just don't know the steps I'll go about doing it to get everything set up where my s4 which contracts not ended somehow get on the unlimited line and my s3 take over my s4 contract (if it's even possible) I'll probably end up paying contract early termination fee then getting the lines switched how I want them
I would double check.. I could be wrong I believe Amazon makes you keep it on line for 181 days.. Maybe I'm mistaken with another one.. I'm on the go now so further research is needed for sure..
is this true? If I upgrade my dumb line to the note 3 and then activate it, then after activation switch the note 3 to my unlimited line and dump the data plan on the dumb line, will amazon make me pay or no?

[Q] Upgrading from Rezound

Hello Everyone,
I in the next few days I will be available for a device upgrade. I am going to go from a Rezound to S4 but I am concerned about my unlimited data.
I still have unlimited data on my plan, will upgrading my device change this?
I know now they are forcing everyone into tiered plans but I was hoping this would not change my plan. My wife and I are on a shared plan and she had to get a 2GB data plan when she got her Rhyme. I was grandfathered into my unlimited when I got my Rezound. I also still have the 500 txt messages for $5 a month which they do not offer anymore. I hope that does not get changed either
Thanks,
Ian...
if you get the phone subsidized you lose unlimited, if you have another line you can take and activate the new phone on then move the phone back to your unlimited line you should be good. just don't activate the subsidized device on the unlimited line or you are toast. at least I think that's how it all works.

You need to buy the phone outright at full price to retain your unlimited if you can't do the alternative line option corporal_hades pointed out. Verizon is offering financing to split the cost over 12 months with an additional $2 a month charge I believe.
I'm in the same boat you're in, I would like to upgrade, don't wanna give up my unlimited either.
Thanks for the information guys. Sometimes it seems like Verizon and the other carriers got us by the [email protected]
Don't forget the Moto X is $399, and the LG G2, HTC One, and Droid Ultra are $449 off contract now... just one more way to keep unlimited data.
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/08/2...-retail-with-no-hassle-use-the-iconic-portal/
It may also be worth it to decide if you really need unlimited data, or change your usage somewhat to get within 2 or 4 GB of data a month, you can save a lot if you can make some changes to your usage and get on WiFi more.
I know corporate stores will not do it, but one of the smaller Verizon stores I went into the other day said I could use my upgrade to get a new phone on my wife's life(alternate upgrade), then do a hardware swap to put the new phone on my line. It wouldn't hurt to ask a few of the stores around you to see if theyll do that.
She said if I did this I would be able to keep my unlimited.
Sent from my HTC Rezound using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I upgraded to the HTC one through best buy and was able to keep my unlimited plan. I upgraded the phone on my account that's already on the tiered data plan. Then switched the new phone to my unlimited line at the Verizon store. Best buy or Verizon didn't give me any problems doing it. Small price to pay to keep unlimited data.
