[Q] Games draining battery too fast? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
First of all, I'm new around here and I have my galaxy S2 for around 1 week.
On my first CustomRom I had an issue where it was draining my battery really fast in standby, so I changed the rom to checkrom revohd v4.
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKK5-CL754841 [email protected] #2
(I believe its syah)
My standby drain problem was over.
Yet, I downloaded Betterbatterystats to double check and it looked fine.
Now, I have another problem.
I'm not naive and I know games consume alot of battery but I am using data off, bluetooth off, gps off, brightness at 10% or 5% all the time, sound at minimum (sometimes even off) while gaming.
In games, no matter which one, it drains really quick.

Now, as you have noticed the smartphone is on for about 23h without charging.
You may say its good, but I barely touched the smartphone except 10min of gaming maybe and some calls/texts.
My question is, its it normal that it drains like this on games?
Also, can you guys notice that sometimes the battery has some charge spikes? So LOL, it recharges battery without being connected to the charger or USB? Is that possible?
I should also say that I already did the battery calibration app.
Please I hope you guys can help me out, I'm sure this drain on games is too much because it didnt drain this much some days ago with my old customrom (however it drained alot in standby)
Edit: I changed kernel to Speedmod hoping to some have improvements while gaming but nop.
Let me say, I tried a game called Guns Bro for 10minutes and it drained me 10% of battery.
From my maths, I can play for 100 minutes, not even 2 hours before the battery dies.
Is this normal? Each 1~2 minute draining 1% battery while gaming? What can I do?

you guys know if this is normal? 2~3 hours of gaming...

Yea the SGSII dies pretty fast when playing games, I'd say around 3 hours of game time is normal. If you wanna play a lot of games, the iPhone is your solution (or a PS vita)

Dude,I don't know about Gun Bros, but Dungeon Defenders will **** your battery up and make your device overheat. It's probably a fault of the game.I'm playing Dead Space,NFS Hot Pursuit,Modern Combat 3 and some others, and I can easily top 2 hours. And that's with my device overclocked(both CPU and GPU) and with about 75% brightness.
Also,DON'T calibrate your battery. It's useless on the S2 as our fuel gauge chip takes care of that very well.As for the spikes, battery percentage is an estimate and,as such,it can be wrong.Give it time and it'll converge towards the real battery level.

my battery drains fast only with heavy games... i think thats normal

Normal, i wish I got that long!

Alright Thanks I was just afraid it was draining too fast for some reason that shouldn't exist.

Photon Battery life- WTF?!

Alright, I've read countless "photon battery issue" threads and none really have a good answer but this is just ridiculous:

I went to bed with the thing charged to 100%, wake up 8hrs later, not having used it once and its at 50%... okay, whatever, I guess it was about 8 hours...
So I charge it to 80% then go work-out for about maybe 2 hours and when I'm done the SOB is at 40%- I DIDN'T TOUCH IT THE WHOLE TIME! I DON'T THINK IT EVEN CHARGES THAT FAST! I don't care if it was searching for signal the whole time, which it shouldn't have, WTF?!
Other anecdotal stories: I'm fanatical about battery life and always charge it full before going out for the night or something and I'm usually lucky to make it to bar close, a total time span of MAYBE 5 hours. How is this even possible?! The damn thing is supposed to have a 10 hour talk time?! Even if I was on the phone the whole time (which not even close, just txting and using it when you're awkwardly alone while your friend goes to the bathroom)- WTF!?
I'm extremely vigilant about charging and monitoring battery life and despite my best efforts I get burned constantly. I even have this thing on airplane mode at work (in a basement) cause it will be dead by the end of my shift.
Any one use a rom that gives a noticeable increase in battery life? Doesn't seem like many of them are mature enough. Juice defender doesn't seem to help much... do I have any decent options? I may start carrying around a second battery but seriously, that's a bit silly.
/venting.
you have a bad battery, just call up Motorola and see if your still under warranty, if so, have them send you one, that's what i did and i've noticed a substantial increase in battery life
Hey man, did you calibrate your battery when flashing roms? Battery will die faster when dont calibrate. Currently which rom are you on. also check some programs that might run in the background. Right now, im getting about 17 hours, but i am over clocked and under volting this bad boy. I posted my battery life prior to running jokers ROM. Check it out.

I think I have some issues with my battery as well. It discharges fast! I usually have it full all the time but the times where I have left it discharge cause I'm lazy I wonder how everyone post pics with 13+ hrs when I feel like my won't get even 10. Btw, my battery has been in water for a brief moment idk if that affects it somehow?

In my experience, bad battery life is usually related to some apps or settings wrecking havoc in the background. Unless you happen to have a phone with LTE and a smaller battery of course.
I always get an average of 30 to 40 hours on one charge with moderate use on my Photon, stock rooted...
For me, live wallpapers demolished my battery life. Also, I completely formatted sd internal before flashing joker skinny.
No rom here, just rooted- lime green theme. I didnt calibrate but for a theme i shouldn't need to? Ill look into getting a battery from moto, no reason i shouldn't be covered.... Aside from rooting that is. Also wouldnt phantom app drain show in the pics posted?

Get betterbatterystats and check for wakelocks etc, something is stuck full throttle in the background

My battery life is also really bad.. but since I flashed cm7 its been better which makes me not wanna throw this phone against the wall lol..but seriously ..right now I'm at 42 percent after 11 hours with texting, a few calls, Facebook, playing some games so I'm really happy with cm7.give it a try

3rd note after trial and change ..why does batt life suck Really??

This phone aside from keyboard lag and batt drain is awesome...
I've tried and tried to understand why whether on gb or ics batt drains like can watch % drop every few minutes
My hox on ics wasnt half as bad I'm rooted anyone know a good fix or kernel for team objection ics or a kernel.
And why for God sakes do all Samsung devices slowwwwww charge if u don't have a 2nd battery when first dies you'll be in the red zone rest day trying to regain some type of charge
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Try the official Emily rom its gingerbread..there's even a couple of good themes for it, I had very good battery with that rom. Am now testing ics CM9. Sometimes its the settings you have and brightness that kills the battery. I leave my brightness on 40% keep auto sync OFF.. Even black wallpapers and inverted apps help with battery as it takes less energy to energize the pixels...I get awesome battery life on my note.. And I use perfect keyboard pro....I have NO lag what's so ever...sometimes rarely you'll get lag on keyboards but clearing ram or cache seems to help restore the order of things....hope this helps a little

Interesting I own a Note never had any Battery Issues....
If you got a defective Unit try to take it back to your ATT Store.
I see you own the I717 Unit that's the ATT Model. ATT will gadly replace it with the same device or get full refund back.......
If it's only the Battery Issue it might not be the Phone it self just a bad battery I would by another battery it would cost you around $20 which isn't a lot of money for a replacement on a battery.....
It takes me 2 and half hours or less to get a full charge on my battery but I've never rooted my device.......
I don't know if AT&T hates your or something but I don't have keyboard lag or a bad battery.

Xperia U Battery Life issues

Hello guys,
I flash twice my Xperia U to ICS and I done it well. At frist one, i made without reset factory and the second one with reset factory.
In both cases I got the same problem.
The ICS is draining battery life hard, even in stand by. No mater what, It consumes about 25% for each 4h. Using hard or using nothing.
I instaled GSam Battery Manager and it says its Kernel and Android OS.

Android version 2.3.7. It lasted 41h and still have 19%.
Please, someone can help? I tried everything i know. No matter if data or wifi is turned on or off, it will consume lot of battery. I tested.
It seens impossible to reach 24h in this situation.
Same here
New ICS su.....
I'd uninstall the task killer and battery defender to begin with, they will drain your battery like crazy.

Try using titanium backup
Freeze all the applications and services which you are not using..
If u do a thorough search in the forumyou wil find the list of services which are safe to freeze
Set maximum cpu usage to 200mhz when screen is off..

Yes definitely u need root
I'm not using my U yet, got a sim in it, but still using my old phone for now. I'm running ICS and am getting 12-15 hours battery with less than 10 minutes use. The rest of the time it's in standby, there's a pretty bad battery bug, I've not figured out what causes it. On GB I was getting 15hours medium use (~3 hours) and would still have 40% battery left. Battery info is showing it as awake the whole time it's on standby.
My phone`s original battery lasts for one day in normal use. I bought a 2680mAh battery in eBay and now I can use my phone all day long without any problem.

Download GSam battery monitor from the Play Store to determine what is causing the battery drain.

The battery drain during usage is within the normal, but in standby it is too high, which I do not understand!

Using the battery app see what app or service is keeping your phone awake. That would be my guess as to what the problem is. I would also suggest flashing cpalmers kernel as well, which has been really good for me in limiting awake time.

Install BatteryGuru, give it a couple days to learn how you use your phone, and watch how it saves your battery once the learning period is done. I swear by this app, it brought me from almost a day to about a day and a half as far as battery life is concerned.
I installed the Gsam battery, it shows that "phone radio" was sucking down a vast majority of the battery.

Then you must be in an area where service isn't good and your phone is searching for service which kills the battery quickly. To conserve battery turn on air plan mode and then turn service on when you get into a zone with better coverage. This will help your battery a lot.

My opinion..don't install any more apps than what you only use. You install more apps it will obviously suck more battery. What you do. Root/unlocked the bootloader and install a sense 5 4.1.2 base Rom. I came from stock and since I've installed a sense 5 stock Rom I've notice a big battery saver comparing from the original sense 4+ stock.hopefully that helps.
Thanks all
Strangely none of this helped the battery drain is too high in standby, after resting (no apps installed only stoke apps) and even flashing sense 5 rom still 15% per hour and even in Air plan mode . The strange thing during the use of the phone the drain is normal.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
First impressions - battery
With my old Samsung S5, if I wanted to play games at night, I needed to charge it in the end of the working day. With Redmi 5 plus I only charge when I go to sleep and it still has around 45 to 50% of available battery.
Before this I owned a redmi pro phone with 4000mah battery and I have to charge the phone about two to three times a day and with rn 5+ have to charge after one day of haves usage
42,5 hours from battery, 8 hours and 38 minutes screen-on-time

Update on screen on time
I have changed to global ROM (I was using the Chinese with English language) and it seems that the battery drains a little bit faster then before. Still it's enough for a day. At the end I have around 30%.
Not bad
From 90 percent. Miui 9.2.13.0.
Mine only 2 days
Only wifi and some music.
Very nice.
On LTE whole day
In my experience no matter what your android is you need to charge it at the day end. As for mi note 5 with calls, gaming and networking it reaches bottom by day end.
The screen on time is very good!! It minimum last me for 6 hours if I'm use it with very heavy gaming and 9hours I get in maximum SOT with normal use.
Note: I'm a heavy user! Facebook, Instagram, wechat, whatsapp, Twitter, dragon nest m, crusader quest, and etc. More than 80app in my phone.
Awesome and very impressive battery life on the Vince!
Just got my device a day ago. Charged it up to 100% and then updated apps/ OS.
My usage is limited to YouTube, Telegram and some light gaming only as this is my secondary device.
Mostly on WiFi. Using a Jio sim for data.
Not rooted and no battery optimisation done yet.
I guess I am the first user to post SOT on custom ROM.
I really hate MIUI!
I've been using the latest Liquid Remix and I am very pleased!
