I don't think the ICS update is coming on February 19th. Just the phone to AT&T. That website owner can barely speak english and the message was not very well translated.

Thats the date it is released... No way it would come out same day. Itll probably be march maybe or heck might as well shoot midsummer. The att versions will be a lot later.

Yeah, I think we'll see a Intl Note ICS ROM ported over to us before ATT releases an ICS update. Hopefully CM9.

It's in the balance to do with the task switcher. Maybe manufacturers will hack a version for existing phones to make the home button use the task switcher but I don't have inside information and hard information about ICS is pretty lacking.
It seems likely that the Galaxy Note will launch with Gingerbread, and possibly be updated to ICS at a later date, either officially by Samsung, or unofficially by the community. I am personally very attracted to this device, and as such, I'm likely to hold out on actually buying it until such a time that it has been updated to ICS (or I lose interest altogether because something altogether better comes out sooner; I'm looking at you Galaxy tab 7.7!). In either case, just remain patient (I know, easier said than done!), and time will tell!

I'll bet ya, that there will be ICS for SGSII! Defo! theres no reason why there should not be, wheter its gonna be by XDA comunity or Officialy(I doubt that)...
I'm holding out for the Samsung Note also. I currently use a Dell Streak, so it's really hard to go back to a less than 5" screen.
You can bet XDA/Modaco or others will come up with a way to get ICS on the SG2 and or the Note.
Now that ICS has been announced and that there is news Motorola RAZR with capacative buttons will be getting ICS, SGS2 and Note will eventually get ICS too. I just think there will be option to disable onscreen ICS control keys or map them to existing capacitive/physical buttons of older handsets.
My betting is that SII will eventually be upgraded as this is commercially beneficial to Samsung. I don't expect this will be soon as they will want the Nexus Prime to sell and the earliest that we could expect an upgrade is 6 months (Q1 / Q2 2012)
If you look in Google there is a video of the S2 running ice cream

For anyone wondering, ICS works perfectly on devices with hardware buttons. I tried it myself in the sdk emulator. Longpress home = the honeycomb-like task switcher (no hacking required). Menu key works just fine, and the context menu button in apps (e.g the ICS browser) will disappear if the device has a hardware key. In fact IMO android 4.0 works better with hard buttons.

why wouldn't the menu button be the task switcher? we have no need for the menu button now that there is an action bar. this seems far more consistent with the way ICS was meant to work (on new devices).
I absolutely agree with you. The only matter is when they will be done. Hopely very soon.

Very possible. Google Nexus is not that much of a hardware leap from the SGS2. It will come to the SII

watched the event myself as well... Not too much impressed tho... Its coming on verizon for now.
Give it time… you'll see a ROM or two out by Thanksgiving IMO. The sdk has been released, and once the Nexus hits the market, and a system dump is "in the wild", devs will cook ROMs like crazy!

Is ICS's native GUI hardware accelerated by GPU?? From the demo, it doesn't seems perfectly smooth to me. Although Android 3.x was promoted as hardware accelerated GUI, I still find it very laggy scrolling through the homepages when there are some widgets. Putting it besides iPads, it's really a negative to Android.
Not supposed to say this maybe, but I'm underwhelmed by the UI in ICS. Had the same feeling about much of Honeycomb, really.
The UI is looking more and more Metro-like and ultra minimalist to the point of absurdity with every iteration. :shudder:
Flame away, but Gingerbread looks far better to me aesthetically. Give me the under the hood fixes, better multiprocessor support, etc. , but leave what works alone, IMO. If I wanted a Win-doze phone 7 device, I'd buy one.

No but really that's a question only Samsung can answer. We have the SDK but we need a system dump and even then who knows what hurdles we have to jump to get it to function properly.
Just keep an eye on various development sections.

Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior.
I guess that would be a yes, I can't see Samsung not updating a hugely popular handset (which has yet to have a real update) but I can not see them doing it anytime soon unless they drop the 2.3.5 update like they did with 2.3.4 to look at ICS.
As you know for Google phones it's immediately but for other brand it takes some time. Personally I think it will be after 3 or more months for official Samsung ROM.
They'll want to sell Galaxy Nexus for Christmas, but I don't expect Samsung to release for the SGS2 until New Year.

Hi, I have searched on this subject but can't seem to find an answer. So here goes; Google gave paid attendees of the 2011 IO, SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets. Is this device kept up to date by Google? If it hasn't already, is it expected to receive the update to Jelly Bean?
SAMSUNG haven't even updated their stock version to Ice Cream Sandwich yet, and ICS will have been released a year in October.

No,if i remember correctly the latest stock Android version for the IO Tab was the 3.1 honeycomb.
The thing that i'm not aware of ,is if there is a Custom rom (CM9) for this tab.

Hi nighthawk696969, thanks for your reply. I bought my girlfriend a Galaxy Tab around 6 months ago. She already had an ASUS Transformer, but the Galaxy Tab is batter suited to her needs. I flashed a custom ROM based on CM9 which runs fine, but isn't perfect. But better for her because the ICS version of Gapps are better.
My question arose from the fact that I'm thinking of getting a Galaxy Nexus to replace my LG O2X because I want OS updates to be timely, and not take years. Which reminded me that the Galaxy Tab, whilst never an official NEXUS device, it was given by Google to attendees at an IO slightly over a year ago.
But you say, the current stock Google release for this device is Honeycomb? WOW! That is lame of Google. My girlfriends old ASUS which is sitting in a box, already has had ICS since January, and two updates since then.
This situation is what I think of when I hear the term "fragmentation". Thanks. Anil
As user of samsung we were talking about bad support and neglecton for most devices, now after we have seen the leaked firmware for SII which brings it to lfe again with lots of features of galaxy SIII but lots of people belives it will be likely the last update of SII and it will not taste the 4.2 update is this convenint as the SI had too many updates

Probably! They can't keep giving all updates to their old phones (even though it has what it needs to handle it). If they did, what's the meaning of a flagship phone? Nobody would even care updating their phones! And BTW, Samsung has the best customer support. No other OEMs give so many updates for their old devices.!

Quick answer no. No official release has been set, at least from my lack of looking. I have heard rumors that it'll be in the first half of 2015, no sources just rumor. The 5.0 source code has been release but no updated TouchWiz just raw Android. Some devs have been working on CM12, with mixed reviews as for the daily driver bit. So I'd say give it time and we might see something soon.
