Situations where a galaxy note would have been really handy? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Since the anticipation of getting my galaxy note I've already noticed a few instances where I would LOVE to have one already. In general, I have this habit of writing random crap down on paper, and folding the paper up, putting it in my pocket, and losing it later. I'm a pack rat, so if I don't lose them, the papers just build up, even though I don't read them. It would be so handy to just have them all stored in my phone.
I'm looking for some specific examples here. I think this would be kind of fun to talk about.
Specific examples for me:
-while watching youtube videos about Starcraft strategy, I would want to write down the build order on the note, then alt tab into the game and try it out, references what I wrote on the note.
-Quickly writing down my schedule at work, so that I can program it into my phone later when I have time.
-writing down what my coworkers want me to go order for them at random restaurant i go to

I hope that I find myself in tons of situations where I have to use the pen. Only one I can think of is to pass time at work drawing random pictures.

Using the s-pen to take notes while on conference/speaker phone call . I think that will be handy.
Also I understand smemo (?) can be synced with evernote of which I'm a big user.

If you get the format down, you can send your handwritten note directly to you s planner (google calendar)
Also when getting a PDF or document, you can take a screen shot, sign or mark up the document and send back. Very convenient.
You can also do a voice recording for a note, handy when driving.

I have started a channel on youtube for video game related content. Deliberately being a jerk in online gameplay. Example: running up behind someone on Call of Duty and kill them in some humiliating fashion. I play a lot of games in a night, and having my phone nearby to jot down what map, date and what it is I did would help a lot.
I could do the same with a notebook and pen, but come on... S pen. ;-)

Spur of the moment...

I was having a problem with my Skyrocket and decided to exchange it for another one. While I'm at the AT&T store, I thought I would play around with the display model Galaxy Note...long story short, I upgraded my Skyrocket to a white Galaxy Note. (wife is not happy at all). Nonetheless, it's a great device. I will admit that upon initial impressions, I was not a fan of the Note.
To start, the phone is enormous, but once you get past it's caveman-ish dimentions, it's actually a great device. The screen on this phone is beautiful. It's 5.3" of HD SAMOLED+ lovin. In my opinion, this display is the best of both worlds...an Super AMOLED + display with high resolution. It's a pleasure to look at.
I'm getting used to the size of the phone, the more I handle it. I've been able to type one-handed with little difficulty, and typing is much easier on a 5.3" screen, because there's more room to type. For people with big hands, (like me), you know what I'm talking about. I will report back in a couple of days, with a more in depth review.

Welcome friend. I got my Note yesterday and its a awesome device I'm really enjoying it. The screen is unbelievable its the best that I've seen. When I was deciding if I should get it I was also worried about the screen size but I'm already use to it. The fact that its so thin probably helped out on that but enjoy your Note.

Welcome to the club.
This is my SECOND 5" phone. Dell hasn't a clue how to market what they had.
I got my note (international) in December. Once you go with a 5" screen, kind of
hard to go back. I know I looked at the SG2, but even though it is a great device, that screen just looks TINY compared to what I am use to now.

Mint.com is a really great resource. I have yet to find anything better.
The App isnt half bad either.
Yeah. I have been using it since 2007. It's very useful around tax time when you want to see how much certain deductions are (for instance, the DMV). The app was horrible before but it's nice to see how far they've come.

I have somehow managed to convince an iPhone 4s user and a Nexus user (both close colleagues @ work) to switch to the AT&T Note just by allowing them to play with my toy. The Nexus user is a Verizon customer that is now seeking to switch to AT&T. That's pretty special IMO.

It does feel good when you show someone your phone and they automatically love it. I had a Dell Streak before the Note and converted 2 people from iphones to the Dell Streak. Amen to that
I had a random awkward encounter today, but it still put a smile on my face. I was waiting for my next class and reading xda on my note, when a completely random girl, who I noticed had been standing nearby for about 5 minutes, walked by and simply said "nice phone" on her way into a neighboring class. I only had time to say thanks before she was in her class, but it was cool that she apparently knew what phone it was and acknowledged it.
Not that I'm looking for attention at all, but I love the simple conversations it can start with people, and I think people are really starting to realize how awesome Android phones can be. I enjoy showing people my Note and the awesome things it and Android can do.
With Android in general, I have loved being different from everybody that has an iPhone, which is seemingly everybody at my college. Even more so, I like how the Note stands out even more, as I guarantee not a single other phone on the market would have piqued that girls interest around my school, as all you see are iPhones, nor would she gave distinguished it from being any other old regular Android phone. This phone is turning heads, and people have taken a huge liking to Samsung recently.

I'm still getting uninitiated attention in public randomly. This has carried over to the Note from the Streak.
Like if I'm in a regular shopping-type of center, and just standing around using my phone, some random passerby's will notice me and ask about what I'm holding.
But I definitely think this would stick out most in a university lecture hall type of environment.
From asking some random local at&t store sales reps, they said a good share of both genders have purchased the Note. I initially was guessing that it would be mostly guys buying them.

Good question! That is from their television advertisement. You would think it would be an obvious feature.
Perhaps with this upgrade to Samsung S-apps?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvH6vbhOs6Y&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I think everyone who bought a Note asked themselves the very same question. The S apps in the commercial seem to be quite a bit better than what they actually delivered.

Yeah, but I'm not putting much faith in that, since its been demoed and on commercials forever.
I had good luck with groupboard. Just go to the demo board. Go to connect then find boards, then who's on. It has chat and seems to be fairly real time. Only issue is to change drawing options have to go to separate tab. Also doesn't seem to support pressure or have nice brushes.
I think you can make your own board for up to five people for free. Notice the progression on the demo board lol!

Funny things people say about your huge phone

So, my friend (she's an iZombie of course) just asked if my phone was the "S4 Note".
I know this probably more because of Samsung's S4 fragmentation with the zoom/active/mini etc. models but I have noticed I've gotten quite a few funny comments/questions about this device, and so far no where to share it in my favorite XDA section!
Some of you must have a few humorous comments that you've received, post them here and share the laughs.

Why are you using a tablet to take pictures (but that usually stops once they see the pics and I don't have to do endless scrolling on websites)
Apple is Innovative, just look at my perfectly sized 4" screen, to which I usually reply,,,,Android was innovative in 2010 when they started having 4" screens, and you don't see me having any issues holding my 5.5" phone.

I occasionally get the "wow is that thing big" but alot of people around here either have a s3 s4 or note 2 so it doesn't really phase them. When i first got it is when I got alot of comments because it was still so new. A friend of mine asked me to see it (when a hot girl asks for your phone you just hand it over hahaha) but she is tiny, by tiny I mean 4'10" and maybe 110lbs. Well it truly looked like she was holding a tablet. Haha. That's when I saw how big it is. But I can never go back to a smaller phone now.
People: "how can you use a phone that big?"
Me: "I'm used to handling big things."

here lately, there are more note 2's or s4's than iphones at the hospital so not as many comments as there used to be.
I get it all the time at the university I work at. Big screen tv, 80's boombox, table for our food. I just wait until one of my coworkers tries to show a youtube video, I go to the same one, and then put my phone next to theirs. That usually quiets those types of people.

How can you even use that, its so big... my reply its not hard if you are already accustomed to big equipment.
