FIXED: "Processing..." and page loads, take forever. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

searched, no find.
I have two consistent issues.
1 - When retrieving sites requiring a login, or when logging into LastPass, if I can get to the "Processing..." popup, it will hang and sit. Sometimes it will complete Processing... after a couple minutes, and sometimes it will continue until I kill the app. This issue is frequent, so restarting the app is not an acceptable workaround.
2 - When loading a page it will often do the same but without a popup. It will take forever to load, sometimes not at all. Occasionally I can reload the page and it will work, occasionally it will not load at until I reboot the phone or something.
these issues seem to occur frequently on home wifi. my PC, also on wifi, will load from these servers instantly.
i have had the issue on the following:
stock
Unnamed latest
Shostock latest
entropy dd latest, and last two
siyah latest and previous
with/without overclocking
with/without data enabled
affects all browsers, lastpass, tapatalk, xda premium, etc, etc.
caches cleared, including dalvik
no stress on the phone, running usually 250-500MB RAM only.
any ideas? the phone is basically unusable as a smartphone at home. the issues may or may not be as bad on regular data. TIA.

one more try... anyone help with this issue?

You state that this is mostly happening on your home Wi-Fi connection; is it possible that you have some sort of QoS / traffic shaping setup on your wireless AP / router that may be resulting in this condition? Also, do you have any of this type of behavior on cellular 3G or other Wi-FI connected networks?

thanks for the reply.
the issue is inconsistent even at home. i have been watching for causal conditions but not finding anything yet. it does not appear to be my wifi. no other devices have ever had any kind of problem, and there have been many (i share the my wpa2 wifi with neighbors as well, many smartphones, etc). yes, the issue frequently affects me off wifi on data. and yes, it occurs at my office wifi as well. but the intermittent nature makes me think it's something with the phone's software, which is why i'm focused on figuring this out here. when it rains it pours, and i will have to reboot the phone, not just kill my browser or other app, in order to connect. sometimes rebooting more than once is required.

Have you tried a 'wipe data / factory reset' in ClockworkMod Recovery?

yes, i did actually. the issue is happening even loading basic google searches out on H+. the page will usually load, but will take literally 3+ minutes to load it. i'm not sure what's going on but it seems there's something going on between me and the servers that is hanging my data retrieval. i'm mystified. but the phone is literally stuck on page loads & data retrieval about 70% of the time. i don't have any weird software running in the bg either. pretty basic Entropy DD (tried the last 2) and ShoStock latest. is it possible there is some hidden settings somewhere i can look at? i have scoured all available settings on the phone, but there's gotta be something deeper i can look at. any recommended system tweak apps for this?

I get similar things. Looks like my modem or connection is freaking out.. Did a factory return to kk6. Still didn't fix it. I'm thinking its hardware. Can't figure out what it is cause no laptop right now..

Nope. Got it new with contract

ok, mine is a refurb, but has not appeared to have even a single hardware issue. guess i'll continue to cycle new software and see if this eventually irons out. next step is to get more into the system settings and investigate. my initial guess is my phone is sending repeated requests in the background.

if anyone is interested, i may have found the problem. i'm no networking guru, but i changed my phone's DNS settings to OpenDNS's servers like my home router's config. previously my phone was using Google's DNS servers. after changing the phone to OpenDNS loads are consistent and snappy like every other box in the house. keeping an eye, but so far so good.

Data connection driving me nuts

Was very happy with devoid, then flashed void forever. Could connect to 2G after the flash for quite a while. Next morning 2G disappeared and randomly reappeared. And then played hide and seek, with extended periods of hide.
Flashed devoid back tonight. Everything was ok. Then it started again! Aaaaaaaaaargh. I've been on this network in this city for 2 years and I never drop my data connection. Works very nicely. Even before void forever it was great. But I don't think it's because of the ROM, prolly something I did.
Could it be related to d2sd? Where are APNs stored? I have ungaze. With the old devoid I had nothing and then DT for a while, so I suspect something related to the d2sd script? Any system logs anywhere for mobile data?
TIA, I write for a living so I often need to mail folks while I'm on the move and this is really really really effing my happiness!

its not abt d2sd but it may be wrong with ur apn settings...
so first check the apn setting as
settings->wireless... ->mobile...
there u have seen the Apn tap on that
then check the already settings were there are correror not
or try to create new settings as
menu-> NewAPN
THEN GIVE THE APN NAME
IP
PORT
SAVE THEM
CHECK THE NEWLY CREATED SETTINGS
Umm no my friend, my APNs are alright. I'm not that stupid ;-) Ive reinstalled my MMS and Browser APNs many times over.

Maybe temporary problem with ur provider..give it some more time..
What provider are you with? Because your connection dropping might not even be an issue with something you flashed, merely convenient timing lol.
Check the provider website or something, ask friends who are on the same network. Maybe that's it
Hehe, yes it could be cruel timing. I'm on Vodafone. Fine will hold my horses for now I guess.
Maybe custom ROMs are not yet ready for mission critical applications, such as yours where your work requires stable interconnectivity.
I just had this happen to me. In fact, its even *WORSE*; my phone refuses to make any data connection, even over (connected!) WLAN.
However, the internet is actually working fine, both WLAN and 2G/3G. Running adb, I can ping internet hosts with wlan enabled and disabled, but all of the applications that use internet (browser, market, email) gives errors.
I've tried clearing cache and dalvik from CWM, but no change......
I have no idea WTF is going on, and why it suddenly stopped working correctly.
maintain minimum talk time balance. only then internet pack or data connection will work. have a minimum of 10 bucks I'm your pre paid balance apart from your internet recharge.

I dont have prepaid/PAYG. I've also had problem with my wifi connection getting associated, but getting stuck at "Obtaining IP address......."
I still dont know whats causing this, and why it appeared, nor how to solve it (I did reboot my phone a few times, wiped the cache and dalvik) and eventually (after deleting and recreating the APN) got it working again. So I'm relatively happy for now.....
well this sounds crazy, it happens to me also, but in a different way, the "E" icon totally disappears after 9pm, what i do is change the clock to am and its back again,
weird, don't know its my provider or rom thats playing around

Constant data use after reinstall

Hey guys
I just installed the leaked AT&T ICS (the CWM version that's been posted), and so far everything's generally great.
However, ever since I upgraded to ICS, my phone has been downloading data like crazy over WiFi. Oddly enough, this has happened on my phone before as well when I was using GB, and I believe it also occurred then right after a reinstall.
It's incredibly annoying because whatever the phone's downloading, it seems like it's using a lot of bandwidth because any other internet-related activities I try and do take *forever*. I've rebooted the phone several times, tried stopping every service that I can, and turned off all auto account sync stuff. It's been several hours since I installed ICS, and it's still going.
I'm going to let it sit overnight and see what it's doing in the morning, but even if this is only a temporary problem it's REALLY annoying. Especially since if it's not done doing whatever it's doing by morning, I won't be able to use cellular data on it because I only have the 200 MB plan and don't feel like losing my entire volume for the month because I can't stop my phone from downloading.
Any ideas as to what's causing this? Like I said I'm pretty sure this isn't an ICS-specific problem because it happened under 2.3.4 also, I just want to be able to shut down whatever's doing this excessive downloading. And I'd love to know *what* exactly is being downloaded that's it's taking so long and using so much bandwidth.
Thanks for any help you guys can lend
If you do switch to data to let it pull it down, you can use the data usage in the settings to see what app is doing it. My Data Manager (free in the Play Store) can also monitor data, on cell data and wifi. That would also tell you what app is doing it.
I would guess you either have a ton of data in your Google account, such as contacts, calendar, Gmail, or you have an app that is trying to sync data down. I'm guessing you are restoring apps, then notice the data draw. Think about any apps you have that may sync data back and forth. If you sign into your Google account at initial set up, it should (depending on settings) automatically download and install your apps. But, that should be apparent, you should see the downloads as it does them app by app.
All that is based on guesses of what I would consider "normal" behavior after installing a new ROM.
Good luck tracking it down.

Or avoid all that and use the native ICS data monitor.
The weird thing is that I hadn't really done anything to the phone when it started using all the data. My Google account doesn't really have much in it (don't have a ton of contacts, don't use it to back up apps/etc.), and I think the only things I'd done app-wise were updating a couple preinstalled apps (Facebook and Maps, I think), but I hadn't installed anything new yet.
I installed My Data Manager, but it looks like it's already done whatever it was doing. Though, even now the download arrow is constantly lit up on WiFi, but I think whatever it's doing now has something to do with the network I'm on (dorm room) as I've noticed almost constant non-zero download bandwidth being used on my desktop as well when it's on the network. If I turn WiFi off now it isn't constantly using cellular data any more, so thankfully it looks like it's finished with whatever it was doing and the constant WiFi downloading is a network, not phone, issue.
On an unrelated note, I was going to reinstall a tethering app, but figured I'd give a try to the built-in tethering first (don't have a plan). On GB it wouldn't even let me start up the tethering without a plan IIRC, but under ICS the tethering not only starts up, I can even connect my laptop to it. Unfortunately I couldn't get internet access on my laptop though, so I'm guessing there's still a restriction on it. Just found it interesting that you can actually enable the tethering without a plan now.
But there's a more serious problem, however. Is ATT clamping down on third-party tethering? I used to use Barnacle WiFi Tether, so I went to install that from the market. Well, Play tells me the app isn't able to be installed on my device because of carrier restrictions (lame). No problem, I figure, I go to their website and download the apk from there and manually install.
Well, when I try and start tethering using Barnacle, it says "WiFi: Could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Operation not supported on transport endpoint"
Does this mean I'm screwed? Will any third-party tethering apps work? To be honest I'm not really into trying out 5 million different ROMs on my phone and don't really mind TW at all, so I'd prefer to keep it stock. But I use my phone overseas and need to be able to use tethering, and if ATT is really clamping down on third-party apps then I'll be installing a completely stock kernel once one's easily available.
Thoughts? Anyone else experimented with tethering on UCLC2 yet?
Well, never mind regarding the tethering stuff - I'd still be interested anyway to know if ATT is trying to actively prevent you from using it in ICS, but I just flashed the SHOstock2 ROM and I gotta say I'm blown away. Even after using it for a half hour I'm pretty sure I'll never go back to stock again (I'm sure most of you would say DUH to that), has everything I'd want in a ROM and nothing I don't. Default tethering works right out of the box too, so I don't even have to worry about installing another app.
Only kinda weird thing is the data indicator keeps switching between H+ and 3G (I'd post on the actual ROM thread but I don't have 10 posts yet...). I'm only on the 200 MB data plan so I switched it to the wap.cingular APN, but even after doing that it still switches. Data seems fast - and I'm not one to be super-concerned with data speeds since I'm mostly just checking e-mail - so it's not a huge deal, but figured I'd mention it anyway.

The data switching is normal. The device idles on 3g to save battery and kicks up to 4g when it needs the speed. Stock roms hide this behavior by showing the 4g icon even on 3g

I never thought to press the menu key in there, there is no indication there are more options. By default it doesn't show wifi data, but on my TouchPad running CM9, that's all it shows. Guess I shouldn't have assumed the ICS wouldn't be without menu use fragmentation like every other android version.
Yeah, the data switching on a custom ROM is normal. Just showing you what the phone actually does. It can save power by reverting back to the 3G vs H when you are idle. The first thing most custom ROMs add is tethering on the built in method. If the leak let you start it up, I'm guessing its incomplete. I would bet att does the same in ICS as GB and has an app to check your account before letting you turn on tethering. Att can detect tethering on the back end too, so if you are caught they warn you first, but you can end up being put on the tethering plan if you keep tethering.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
Ahh, thanks for the info on the data switching, never knew about that!
I don't use tethering in the US, but I do overseas, which is why I was concerned about ATT blocking tethering apps. However, I realized it's probably not an issue anyway because I'm guessing that tethering wouldn't be blocked with a non-ATT SIM card. Anyway, SHOstock rocks, so it's all good
Also good to know that ICS can monitor WiFi traffic by default - didn't think to hit the settings button on that screen. I gotta admit, that's one huge interface design flaw of Android. There should be some kind of indicator on the screen when there's a menu available, really poor interface design choice to have to hit the menu button randomly to see if any menus are there.

With new ICS developed devices, most don't include touch buttons... The Nexus for example (using on screen buttons) only shows a menu button when a menu is available...
Cheers.
ALSO- I also noticed what appears to be constant "spurts" of Wifi data usage as well (at least according to my Wifi status bar indicator)... It doesn't seem to affect my Mobile Data, and every data monitoring App (including stock ICS data monitoring) doesn't show the culprit, which leads me to believe that we may be dealing with a system app that is accessing data in the background almost constantly... But only on Wifi. Maybe a location service, or something to do with Syncing? I say system because not even stock Data Monitoring is recognizing an app using data...
Another reason I say this is because I pointlessly wiped my device and started over due to this... "bug"... Only to find that running stock CM9 (with no installed apps) my Wifi indicator still led me to believe my device as downloading spurts of data constantly.
I haven't been able to narrow it down, and am hoping that the issue is fixed in a future software update. - But it is more than likely not an app, just an ICS/CM9 bug.
UPDATE- Just checked a Samsung Epic 4G running CM9 and the bug isn't there... So, it's something specifically within our device and ICS... Again, maybe a System app or Kernel bug...

[Q] Can't get internet to load?

~So I haven't really seen anyone else with this issue so I don't know how to fix it.
My phone likes to randomly not load things via internet. Mostly happens with ATT Data connections, but sometimes it happens with Wifi as well I believe (hasn't happened with wifi in a long time).
I can try and load a page and it will simply not load a thing for a good while (sometimes hours), then all of a sudden it will load like it's on a 10MB connection.
Happens with the internet browser, facebook, and any internet apps. Really gets annoying when I'm trying to browse the internet
I have tried different APNs to no avail, tried turning wifi on/off, changing all wifi settings, etc.
Anyone got any suggestions? (Maybe I'm just retarded and there's a well-known fix for this... at least I can hope right?)
Thanks
EDIT: It also used to never send MMS until I changed APN's if that makes any difference. Just not sure if its a software/setting issue, or if its hardware that needs to be replaced.
There are two APN settings, one of which is used by MMS. It sounds as if your APN settings might have been wrong at one point. What are your APN settings now?
Are you on a different ROM? Do you use a 3rd party app to disable and enable the data connection (to save power)? I know my app sometimes doesn't turn the data back on, so I have to go in and do it myself.
Is this your first phone with AT&T? If so, where did you transfer form? Did you have a data plan with your previous carrier? Did you buy your phone from Amazon?

My APN settings are the "phone" HSPA and "phone" MMS settings from the large thread in this forum.
The phone isn't even rooted. No different ROM, just a stock phone. No 3rd party apps that disable/enable data.

I've had ATT for a decade or so now. Phone bought and activated in an ATT store, and last phone I had was an iPhone, so whatever data plan that used was what I was previously using. I would assume they changed the plan to reflect the android device (if there is any difference), but I wouldn't really know because it is on our family account.
Anybody got any clue? This is really annoying the **** out of me. Also found out my brothers phone (on same family plan) is doing the same thing.

Maybe download Tweakker from the market; it automatically rewrites APN settings for your phone and carrier. CM7 uses wap.cingular, and I used Tweakker to change it from that. Worked, no probs, loved me long time, yada yada.
Thanks, just downloaded it. We'll see if it makes any difference.
Worked great until just now. Lost internet again. Thanks though.
Any other ideas?
i am on AOKP, not sure if you have the options to do the following in stock but try.
1.do you have the option of deleting APN? delete all...
2. force the phone to look for wireless carriers (takes like 4 minutes).
3. click on At&t to registet on it.
4. reboot and the original apn should be there.
I reset it back to the original APN but I dont expect it to help... I had the problem even before I started messing with the APN. We'll see how it goes though.
Any other suggestions are still welcome.
I have a similar, if not the same problem. I have concluded that it's either a modem/hardware issue or network issue. Every one and a while, I'll have to wait ~20 seconds for the internet. This always happens on AT&T data. Once the connection is made, the green and orange data indicators light up and the page loads just fine. Changing the APN's increases my internet speed by a lot, but does not fix the latency issue.
Someday I'll get around to calling AT&T.

Sounds like the same issue to me.
I keep thinking I should go to the ATT store but I really dont feel like having them do a reset of my phone then send me home without actually fixing anything.
Have you noticed what kind of connection you have? I don't use stock, so I haven't thoroughly tested this there, but I believe I experience the same issue. I'm running CyanogenMod 7, and what I see is that whenever the phone drops to 3G, I don't get data. I can force 2G (Edge), which works, and if I pick up HSPA+, I get data. If I'm in fairly sketchy signal areas (bad parts of buildings, fairly far from towers, etc.), I'll notice it flip-flopping back and forth between 3G and H+, with no data. I've never had an issue with wifi not properly loading anything.
I did try switching back to stock for a couple of hours, and it appeared my issues were more along the lines of what you describe, without actually displaying a flip to 3G when I can't get data...but like I said, I don't use stock on a regular basis.
NINJA EDIT: I'm on my second phone with this issue, after getting a refurb due to a USB port going bad. I've tried flashing multiple modems, and have been able to increase my speed, but have not been able to fix the issue when I drop to 3G.

Im in an area where I constantly get 4G or LTE... I haven't really noticed a correlation between the drops and whether or not its on 4G/LTE. I haven't experienced it on Wifi in a very long time though.
Also, the stock APN seems to magnify the problems greatly. Switched back to the Tweakker APN and it runs much better (although it still happens occasionally)
Had the same issue as you, try my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199 it seems to have helped many!

Thanks but the Tweakker APN seems to have solved the internet issues. Only problem now is that MMS doesn't work with the Tweakker APN. Anyone got any suggestions on that?

Wifi/Radio Problems on cm10

The short of it is, my Wifi crapped out for reasons beyond my experiences thus far.
The long of it. I flashed epinter's 07/25/2012 Nightly and everything seemed to be working nicely, Wifi especially. Then today, out running errands and dropped my Atrix in my Car Dock and attempted to turn on Bluetooth for the first time since flashing, and the device froze then restarted. Once back up, I tried turning Wifi back on, and the device froze again and restarted. Thinking maybe the radio driver went south, I grabbed epinter's 07/27/2012 build (epinter-cm10-20120727_1846-UNOFFICIAL-olympus.zip), and still no luck. Back into Recovery, Wiping everything and also factory resetting then flashing twice over again, boot up, still no wifi, and if it manages to seemingly fire up, the device hangs and restarts.
Within the last 2 hours (Been at this for about 12 hours now.) I grabbed Jokersax's build (Beta 0.1.0), wiped/reset/flash twice as I have before. Now as I take a breath I noticed that the Wifi Icon came up in the Notification bar, but when I go into Settings and Scan, I see none of the Networks around me. I looked under Advanced and noticed that my MAC Address is 'Unavailable' nor am I showing an IP address, even though Wifi is saying 'On'. Verified on my Router, my Phone is not connected to it.
Odd Side note, installed aLogcat just to see if I could catch any errors, and it is not giving me anything, that is, I am not seeing any logs through the app. Most likely an unrelated issue, but still a tad annoying.
Everything else seems in order, including Mobile Data (Able to access Web Pages, Market/Play Store, receive email, etc.). Just Wifi pretty much 'Lights are on, but no one is Home.'. Any suggestions on next steps?
We discussed this issue over in some other threads and conclusion is that it's a hardware malfunction Ur broadcom chip is burned, many people (including me) had that problem.

I need to really work on my searching, tried several variations of 'atrix WiFi cm10' and could not pin down a related thread.
But back on topic, CRAP! What I was hoping was not the case. Thanks for the reply, will continue to dig for those threads and cross fingers the chip really is not fried (doubtful but hey, people can dream right?).
Thank you for the reply.

try making a clean install and you'll se that you won't have that problem!

But keywords for ur search should be : "atrix wifi error" or "wifi and bluetooth error on atrix" Several forums have this kinda threads, not just xda unfortunately ... seems like it's very often malfunction on this lovely phone. I couldn't repair my previous atrix so i bought another one.

We're talking fastboot wipe kind of clean install? Going to give that a go as a last attempt, will post results here.
Glimmer of hope tonight, was discussing the problem with a friend, went to turn on WiFi and it actually scanned and connected for about 2 minutes before crapping out. This tells me there maybe life to the chip still. Now to get fastboot to connect and try a wipe and see what happens.

Any news on this front? I am one of the afflicted as well.
I'm having a similar issue. though my BT works just fine, no delays, no errors, no intermittance.
Wifi, I can scan for networks just fine. i click on mine to connect. it shows connecting, noting that when it says connecting the signal shows 1 bar as compared to the full set of wifi bars when scanning, i am also right next to the AP. is tries connceting for about 20 seconds or so. then goes back to saying "saved" under the SSID, other networks showing "disabled" when this happens. i originally noticed this after flashing epinters cm10. i tried flashing 37p, 36p and 30p radios with no difference.
EDIT: also want to note that i HAVE disabled the "avoid poor connections" option. and have tried setting static IP.
I flashed the same and I am unable to get my wifi to work after clean wipe, radio install or anything else that I have tried. Could software have really burned up a wifi radio????

Mine works occasionally so I don't think the radio is dead. The rom just acts like it's not there most of the time and doesn't give a mac address. Sometimes it works though after a reboot. Would flashing a different radio help? My baseband version says N_01.77.37P
I had an IP and a MAC, but no wifi internet.
Using mobile data, I downloaded Set DNS and then enabled wifi, works fine.
Now it's working but mobile data is going very very slow, it took 5min to download Set DNS.
I have a skyrocket but the "no wifi" issue is probably the same - your not getting DNS
I'm going back to CM9 for now.
+1 wifi matter under CM10
Try rebooting the router.
Experienced same issue (unable to connect, showing full bars, dropping to 1 bar when connecting and never being able to complete a connection) rebooting my router has fixed the issue. I'm not technical but it might have to do with the DNS release for addresses .. in any case unplugging my router for a bit and restarting it fixed the issue for me.

[Q] Please Help! YouTube and Google+ Hate My Wifi!!!

Hi everyone - I have a weird problem that I really need some help on!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III on the Verizon network. I've had the phone since it first came out and love it, but the problem I have is that when I connect to my network at home, YouTube and Google+ won't update.
Google+ tries to refresh and give the error:
"Can't load data. Check your connection."
When YouTube opens, I get the error:
There was a problem connecting to the network"
If I go into the sync settings for Google, most everything is syncing just fine, but Google+ and People details have problems. Google+ just shows the 2 arrows in the circle next to it and People details shows the same, but with an exclamation point. And then I have a message at the bottom that says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
This problem for YouTube and Google+ happens MOST of the time, but sometimes it will work OK. And if I have problems and turn off the WiFi and change to 4G, everything will update just fine. I also don't have the problem on other wireless networks.
So most of you are probably already thinking, "well this is a problem with your wireless network." That's what I would think.... however, my wife has the same phone and hers works fine on our wireless network. The only difference is that my phone is rooted and hers is not. I am only rooted though; I am still running the stock ROM on the same version and NOT a custom ROM.
I have changed out my wireless router from a NETGEAR N600 to a NETGEAR N150 (yes, a downgrade) and that did not make a difference. There is nothing special configured on the router. I have Time Warner providing my Internet access.
I have done a factory reset on my phone (wiped data, cache partition, and Dalvik cache from ClockworkMod)... still nothing. Be aware that I do run a lot of apps though (around 165 of them).
Here's my problem - I don't use a ton of data, so going to 4G should just be a minor annoyance. However, I now have 2 Chromecasts in the house (awesome!) and I need to be on the wireless to cast a YouTube video over to it... 4G won't cut it.
Hopefully I provided enough info. I've attached a few screenshots as well. Usually I'm pretty good at figuring these kind of things out, but I'm at my wits end on this one and I know there's some really smart people on XDA so I'm hoping you guys might be able to provide some help.
Thanks!!
-- Jim
Just to add to this (and to hopefully give this a little bump), I forgot that the same problem also exists with Google Voice... when I'm at home, I usually can't listen to my voicemails through the widget unless I get off the wireless and go to 4G.
Any thoughts anyone?

Do other internet activities work fine on ur phone? Such as web surfing, watching youtube vids etc?
And another thing is that rooting and unlocking tends to break some software related stuffs in stock roms, and the sync issue might be related as well. I suggest that u try a custom rom and see if the problem persists. Hope that helps

Thanks, geoworld_200 - yes, all other Internet functions work just fine. In fact, I can go to the YouTube in Chrome on the phone and it works just fine, just not the app. Thanks for the thought - I'm actually a really big fan of CyanogenMod, but I'm not ready to go to it yet on this phone as the stock camera app is extremely good and I use it a lot. Any other thoughts?

Why are you rooted? Are you using an ad-blocker? If yes, disable it, reboot, and try again. I've seen some of Google servers end up on adblocking lists.

Polobunny, that's something I didn't think of, but no I don't use an ad-blocker. I'm rooted for the backup abilities in Titanium Backup, the awesomeness of Greenify, and the ability to do small things (like rename sound files for the phone starting up or the camera shutter sounds). I like that idea though - I will try using Voodoo OTA RootKeeper to temporarily disable root when I get home. From another perspective though, that would be weird if it fixes the problem since it's only when I'm at my house... other WiFi connections work just fine. I will let you know what I find out.

I wasn't suggesting unrooting, merely disabling your ad-blocker, if you used one.

Well, it made me think... why not? That's one of the only differences between my phone and my wife's (the other is that I have a ton of apps on mine). I've only used Voodoo OTA RootKeeper one time, but it looks like it will do a temporary unroot, so I'll give it a shot.
As far as the ad-blockers, while I don't have one specifically installed, is it possible that one of my other apps might be causing a similar problem?

Not from the top of my head.
Can you check on your S3 if http://m.youtube.com works?

I'm thinking this might be a DNS issue. You've done a lot of work already on your phone and changed your router, but I don't think you mentioned reseting your modem. That would be my next step, whether or not m.youtube.com works on your device.

That got me thinking a little bit as well... I returned the cable modem I had to Time Warner in January (2013) and replaced it with a Motorola SURFboard SB6141 that I bought. I just logged in and checked the stats on it and everything looks in the normal range. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty confident that I've been having the problem since before the modem was swapped out.
When you say "reset the modem," are you talking about rebooting it or are you talking about resetting the configuration on it? I'm fine with either, just asking. The number show that it's been up for 31 days. The thing that keeps prodding me though is that their are no problems from at home on my wife's phone.
DNS is an interesting thought that might make the most sense... but more so a problem with it on my phone than anywhere else. Right now, my NETGEAR wireless router is dishing out the DHCP info and gives out Time Warner's DNS server addresses. I had Google's in there for a while, but changed them at one point thinking this might be related.
Is it possible that I have a bad HOSTS file entry or something when I connect to the WiFi at home? Does anyone know if the YouTube, Google+, and Google apps connect to different names or IP addresses than the mobile sites? If so, maybe I can try pinging those names or IPs that the apps go to for testing (assuming the mobile sites work fine).
Thanks!

Simply reboot it, not reset the configuration my bad.
You can use Google DNS servers on your router. This would absolutely rule out that your TimeWarner DNS servers are messing up with your stuff.
I wouldn't think it would be HOSTS file issue, unless you changed something to it yourself. Even more so if it works on mobile data.
As for YT, G+ and Gapps, they use a mesh of different servers so it's a bit hard to direct you more clearly. They all use the range 184.150.x.x as far as I'm aware though.
So all in all, try rebooting your modem. Might as well unplug the router when you do so. If it works after, then yay. If not, try using Google DNS.

Hi geoworld - yes, the bootloader is unlocked.
As a side note, I got home today and of course wasn't having the problem. Regardless, I rebooted the modem (and router) as polobunny suggested. I also changed the DNS servers to be Google's DNS instead of the ISP's. Now I'm just waiting for the problem to happen again.

I don't know yet - like I mentioned in the original post, it's an intermittent issue that happens MOST of the time, but sometimes it does work. Unfortunately, it worked fine when I got home yesterday before I even made any changes so it's hard to tell if any difference was made. If it's not going to work again, I will know pretty quickly (next day or two) since that's how often it was happening. I'll keep the thread open for a few more days and update the post as I'm testing every day.
-- Jim
Last night and this morning I had no problems with Google+ or YouTube when I tested... not sure if this is a good thing or not. I hope the problem is resolved, but I still want to wait another day or so to be sure. I'll keep you posted.

So things were going OK, but now I had something a little unusual... the problem happened again with Google+: "Can't load data. Check your connection"
I then went to the YouTube app and it took a loooooong time but eventually loaded. I then went back to Google+ and it loaded OK.
I'm confused.
