How to activate your new note... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I am gonna save some headaches, hassles, and arrogance by telling people how to activate their new phones when they receive them... even though it tells you what to do on your receipt and order status email I am going to say it anyways as I keep seeing the question asked in forum posts.
When you receive your Note and you are ready to use it call, 866-895-1099. This is at&t's automated activation line, it will confirm receipt of your phone, it review your 2 year contract if not done already (usually only online or phone orders, in-store orders usually skip this step as you already signed at time of purchase), then it will swap you to the correct LTE plan that you selected when you ordered, and activate the new LTE SIM that ships with the phone. You have to use the new SIM, don't ask the question, "can I just take my SIM from my old phone and put it in the Note?" The new SIM is sitting pending for activation on your account and will activate anyways, thus killing your old SIM whether you want it to or not, when you confirm receipt of your phone.
If you are swapping this equipment with another number, such as a swap upgrade, or you added a line to get this Note. You will need to go into an AT&T store and get a LTE sim for your existing number you wish to use the Note on and have them put the LTE data plan on your existing number, whether it is grandfathered unlimited or a set limit data plan doesn't mater, your allotment will stay the same. They will then put your existing phone on the new line that you added the note on. If both phones are smartphones then you will have 2 data plans, if your old phone swapping was not a smartphone then just the note will have the data plan on your existing line and it will be removed with your non-smartphone on the new line.
Also for swap upgrades, the sim that ships in the Note will need to go to whoever's upgrade you took/used. So if you used your daughters upgrade for example to get the note for yourself. once you call the activation line, give your daughter the sim card that came with your note. You need a new LTE sim for your line, and the sim that shipped will have your daughters number on it once you call to confirm receipt & activate it.
Any questions?
- Dan

Or if swapping #'s call AT&T and tell them to activate your SIM # on your line you wish it to work then call and activate the line!

Needs LTE SIM, once a sim has been used it cannot be deactivated and reactivated. System doesn't allow it. The only way to do it that way like you described is if they delete the pending upgrade/activation and rebuild it manually and most reps will not or cannot do that depending on there "security" level so to speak.

I just got a replacement sim, how can you tell if its the LTE sim?

Probably is LTE, that's all they use now. Just has the at&t globe on it, doesn't say at&t anywhere on the front.

Lol I've done iit before ;-) delete parked equipment which any Rep can do but I don't believe is required.
Just call tell them the SIM card # and what line you want it active on. They shouldn't have a problem at all.

Yea I agree... its easy to do lol.... Do not call a store to do it as 1. most won't over the phone and 2. if you get a newer rep that doesn't know Telegence they cannot do it.... Yea the pending equipment needs to be deleted, but if the terms and conditions weren't accepted yet, it just creates headaches. Change the 1099 ending on the phone number to 1092 to just accept the T&C's and not activate the phone.

AEDan,
Not getting the GNote until the excitement dies down and I can walk in and buy one lol...But I appreciate your helpful post as I am sure many do!
Thank you!

So I call from my old phone before turning the Note on?

Either that or a landline... either works, if you use your cellphone it will cut off mid call but its good, just means it went through.

Yes, thanks a lot for all your insider AT&T tips. This post in particular will be very helpful to a lot of people.

I wonder how BB does it. When they activate will they have the new LTE sim there. I think my sim is an old one. Came in my Captivate July 2010.

I would assume they do, at&t won't let them activate it if it doesn't. System will just give a bunch of sim errors.

The phone's should ship with the SIM in the phone.

Just bring it to the store and they'll activate with a LTE sim and even transfer your data for you.
My question is what if I plan on selling it? Do I call att and let them know I'm giving it to a relative and keep my current plan/phone info the same?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk

Wait, I don't mean to ask a repeat question, I'm really sorry if I am. I did just look through this thread, but the above user had a captivate.
I have an iPhone 4, and I bought the Samsung Galaxy Note, through Best Buy, using the Upgrade option, and not selecting any data plan, hoping that it will grandfather in to the Note as I have the el cheapo $15/200mb data plan ( I hardly use data).
The iphone 4 as everyone knows has that stupid Micro Sim.
So I just want to clarify, the GNote COMES in the box with a preinstalled LTE Sim? and all I have to do is either call AT&T (which I usually do) to activate the phone with my old number and grandfather in my old 200mb data plan, OR go to a nearby store and have them do it?
That is all correct?
Basically:
- Note Comes with LTE Sim preinstalled from Best Buy?
- I have a choice of either calling or going to the store to activate my new phone?

i will say if you have a grandfathered-in unlimited data plan, do NOT activate your Note yourself as the 1st post describes. i was instructed by Premier support to call the Premier support # and make them activate it and to mention how i want to keep my unlimi plan. they told me this is the best way to make sure i keep my unlimi plan...i ain't taking no chances just a heads up.

I suppose this will not affect current data plans? Also, I paid the phone full price/no commitment. I'm wondering if doing all that step once I get the phone will mess something up and extend my contract. I don't get an upgrade until a year from now and I was going to use that to get another phone that comes out during that time.

I have the HTC Vivid so I already have a LTE sim in that. will I be able to just pull that LTE sim out of the Vivid and put it into the Note?

[MIGHT_HELP_YOU] Having Verizon 3G issues ? Here's the solution

So I started having the 3G issues for the past week. This was on the latest Froyo ComROM which was running fine and I hadn't changed anything. First it started like it taking 5 minutes to connect to 3G, then on CM7 icon would show up for 5s then go out, that's all it did. Same on MIUI. On ComROM GB, it didn't show up at all.
So I called Verizon, they walked with me through troubleshooting and concluded that it wasn't their network but my device :smh:
Not satisfied, I remember a solution from a few months ago when 4G network went out and people started having 3G issues.
So what I did is activate my spare VZ phone on my line. Half an hour later I activated my Fascinate back on the same line. BOOM! as soon as the phone boots up on ComROM GB, 3G is ON! Now the 3G turns as soon as I push the button in the windowshade, and off as soon as I turn the button off.
EDIT: Yes I posted it in dev section. But this is because a lot of people flashing ROMs seem to be having 3G issues. So that they might see the solution better, I posted this here. Feel free to move if you don't agree with my reasoning.
EDIT2: Speedingcheetah mentions
If you do an ESN swap with a standard or dummy ESN, you are removing the unlimited data plan and get stuck with the new capped 2gb plan when you re-activate...You have to swap with a another smartphone in order to keep unlimited data.

It was their network. The problem could have been fixed with a DMU reset on their end. They just wanted to make you feel like it was your fault.

Yeah. I actually opened this just to see what kind of development tweaks were listed. Soon as I read it I thought "uh oh. here it comes"
But hey, with all the people jumping ship from our phone lately, maybe the flame-ers (not "flamers") jumped into other forums as well.

I had a similar problem; also fixed with a DMU reset (un/re-register a phone's ESN/MEID). Once you re-assign your phone to your account, you get stable, reliable 3G connectivity.
And I don't think that Verizon Wireless was trying to make anyone feel like it was their fault, or to avoid blame... they probably have no idea what the problem was, or how to fix it at all. The honest truth is that most people on these forums know more about their phones and troubleshooting problems with the Verizon network, than the Verizon support techs.

which makes it extremely frustrating when you call for help, you have to train them and then they get the snarky attitude when you tell them you don't need to "do a factory reset" or "uninstall some apps to free up memory"
it took me three calls to get someone who would agree to do the ESN swap over the phone, they kept insisting i do 15 other things first so on the third call i simply told them I have done all of that....please try the ESN swap....and what do you know...it fixed it

I find that it is always better to play dumb. People feel threatened when confronted with someone who knows more than them (especially Support Techs, whose job it is to know the answer).
If I needed an ESN swap, I would walk into a Verizon store with a restored stock ROM on it, walk up to the Service desk there, and basically just say something along the lines of "I dunno... it don't work". They will eventually just give you a new refurbished phone, effectively performing an ESN / MEID swap onto new hardware.
Playing dumb is often the faster, more direct way of getting what you want.
Careful, can loose unlimited data plan

Just wanted to mention this, since it is a fairly new thing.

That's the thing, I didn't want someone else's used reject phone they brought back only because it would only overclock to 1.2Ghz instead of 1.6. I knew my hardware and had taken very good care of it since launch, looks brand new even today....
just a heads up
Just a heads up guys you dont need to call verizon for a ESN swap..its as easy as dialing *228 press option 1 and follow the directions super simple..you can also perform the swap on myverizon.com.....you can avoid verizon all together and its much faster....FYI if using *228 its easiest when swapping smartphone to smartphone just make sure that the phone you are trying to activate isnt already active otherwise you will run into problems.. hope it helps

They are sent back to the manufacture and are completely checked and tested...that's what Verizon says...and anyway, I can confirm, the Like New replacement I got works far better the the one i bought brand new ever did...
...*228 didn't work for me...I ended up calling Verizon service and after about 30 minutes on a landline while he tried this and that, including a full reset of the phone and a series of "*#" key presses, 3G came back. I did specifically mention that I was on the unlimited plan, if that helps. This is after trying a plethora of roms and ota leaks.
This is a problem on their side.
Hopefully, ya'll will get someone just as helpful from tech support as I did.

3G's kept cutting out the past few days so I went to a Best Buy since I got the warranty there. All of a sudden I have fully working internet and they wouldn't change it. Right when I drive down the street it cuts out. Crap.

Kept my unlimited plan when I upgraded on 01/06/13

I was able to keep my unlimited data plan when I upgraded to the note II
Found a neighborhood wireless Verizon vendor at the mall and he made his phone pitch and i said I probably won't use the upgrade since I didn't want to lose my unlimited plan. The guy then asked what phone I wanted (this was last october) I told him I didn't even know what phones where out since upgrading was not an option
He then told me what if there was a way of keeping my unlimited plan would I then buy from him. I laughed and said sure... He then viewed my account and then told me that one of my lines was up in the following week (which was november) and my line was up in January. He told me to comeback in a few days with a phone in mind and he would help me out.
The line that was up was my sisters and I told her about it and she was willing to be the guinea pig. We went back the following week with my sister wanting an Iphone they did the whole process and sure enough her plan stayed at unlimited data.
Someone advised me to look at my online, physical, and app statements for the next 3 months just to verify the plan stayed unlimited and that they didn't pull some shady move. The plan stayed unlimited all 3 months.
So I went back with the note 2 in mind and this time someone else that knew the loophole was there and she helped me out as well this time I watched the process. Apparently they pull 2 phones out from stock the phone you want and a phone that doesn't require a data plan they scan the dataless phone and she showed me ok look just so you know there's your unlimited plan still in tact then they scan the phone your buying to complete the process that's what I was able to see.
There was a catch which was I had to buy 50 bucks in accessories which I didn't mind since I needed a case and I got the other box defender

The vendor is just upgrading a line of yours to a regular phone and then just doing a hardware swap on eroes or whatever system they're using. You're keeping your unlimited data this way but the vendor is pretty much screwing themselves over. Verizon isn't going to pay them on the backend for the subsidies on the phone. The $50 catch is pretty much just so they can increase their accessory attach rates.
I know this cause I work for best buy mobile and we just fired some idiot for doing this during the holidays
---------- Post added at 05:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:49 AM ----------
No to double post, but there are better ways to keep your unlimited data. If you have a family plan and an old data less phone, upgrade a basic phone line and then (after you leave the store), swap that number onto your old dumb phone and then just put your 4g sim card into the new phone. If you dont have a sim card, just buy a blank sim from Verizon. By hardware swapping, youve dropped that new $30 data plan for the other line and you've switched onto a 4g phone and kept unlimited data
you can use another lines upgrade on your plan and keep unlimited data...however nobody on your plan including yourself can use the upgrade on your line without losing unlimited. this is nothing new alot of us have been doing this for a bit now. Enjoy the note2 its a great device!

I did something similar to keep my data. I called customer service and asked to talk to customer retention. I then told them that I was wanting to keep my unlimited data and was thinking about pulling my 4 phone lines to unlimited sprint. They had me pick a phone since my line was up for renewal. They activated it on my wifes line as a transfer phone. After that they activated it on me line as a transfer phone too and reactivated my wifes original phone on her line. I was guaranteed to keep unlimited and I still have it. This was back in December.

I would just switch one of the upgrades to another line that doesn't have the upgrade then switch the note II to your line. Before you do this, ask Verizon. I know transferring an upgrade from a line with unlimited data to a line that doesn't have it works since I triple checked with Verizon (which worked when I did it in December)

Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 running Jelly Beans for da haters

Making the switch, my journey.

So, this is just a write up of my switch from Verizon to Straight Talk and (Probably) everything in between.
So basically, this starts out with me being on Verizon for 9 years, ever since I owned my first flip phone. Although, every year it became harder and harder to stay on Verizon, especially with Nexus's devices coming out and basically all the "Cool" phones on the other carriers and Verizon being more and more money hungry and caring less and less about the customer. Sadly, Verizon just had the best coverage and moderate prices (Grandfathered onto Unlimited data). No one could match what I had.
I stuck it out with Verizon, although I hated everything about the company, there was no easy or cheap alternative that could match Verizon's data coverage (Or so I thought), but finally I got my break. Well not that easily, I spent all of the weekend thinking about different options to take with my plan since it will be ending in December (I'm also bundled my parents plan and need to get off of it so it's either try my luck with Verizon or find an alternative and finally get away from this hell hole of a company). I even took a drive to T-Mobile to test out a Nexus 4, and ended at Best Buy seeing what they would give me for my phone ($250 for anyone who is wandering, which isn't bad since the best I could find on Swappa/Craigslist was around $300) to see if I could buy one straight up. Although this sounded like a great idea, I could never go to T-Mobile with their spotty coverage, and AT&T is just as bad as Verizon with the same prices, I had no other options in terms of a GSM carrier.
Although the Nexus 4 is one hell of a device, I just couldn't force myself to get it with the Nexus 5 coming out so soon. So I did some looking and finally found out that it's actually pretty simple to get a Verizon phone onto another network (Since the Verizon Note 2 has LTE/CDMA/GSM bands). So I pulled the trigger and bought a Straight Talk SIM card and an unlimited everything plan for $55. This was a small price to pay to test if there was a cheap and unlimited alternative to Verizon that was able to somewhat rival their coverage. Again, this was more of a test than anything for me to see if I am going to stick it out with Verizon or move to a prepaid carrier.
I ended up going with the AT&T SIM as T-Mobile get's almost no reception in my area (As proven by my friends who have them and never have service) and got my SIM card in the mail yesterday. I was on CM10.2 for the Verizon Note 2 and was ready to just stick this card in and go, of course it wouldn't be as simple as just putting the card in and going right? Well yea, it did take a little messing around. First thing first, I put the card in, activated it per usual, and was actually able to get data, calling and I could receive texts. I couldn't on the other hand, send texts and didn't have signal bars in the status bar. So I played around with APN's for a while and couldn't get it to work. So I tried moving to a Touchwiz ROM. Of course the first I tried was just a stock rooted and low and behold Verizon blocks you from using SIM cards that aren't from Verizon (Did I mention how much I hate Verizon?).
I then went on to try Beans ROM and low and behold, no setup required, turned it on and it was good to go. Everything working, I had a smile from ear to ear just having this actually work. I never knew from the beginning if Straight Talk or even another SIM would work in my phone so everything was a crap shoot until it would finally work, but was lucky enough to have it work! Although, I could have stopped there, I just can't stand Touchwiz so I decided today I would give CM another shot. Still didn't work even when messing with APN's so I thought what the hell, let's try something crazy. Backed up my current ROM and tried flashing the toLTE CM10.2 ROM and of course it failed since my phone isn't the N7105. So I dug a little deeper, and copied the updater-script from the Verizon version to the toLTE version and it installed! So, I reboot it and think, man, I'm going to get stuck in a boot loop, but maybe I was just lucky today as I made it straight to my home screen, even better, I had full data, signal bars working, and was able to send texts. I thought this was amazing. I literally had my cake and was able to eat it too, until I tried GPS. Which of course didn't work. Another hour of trying crap and finally tried just copying the GPS.conf from the Verizon CM ROM over and low and behold, I had GPS! So I now have a perfectly working phone, on CM10.2 using a Straight Talk SIM/contract, using AT&T's network, all for $45 a month.
I'm sure a lot of you will read this and want your 5/10/15 minutes back, but this is just for the few that want to break away but don't have the hundreds of dollars to switch to different carriers, different phones, different plans just to find one that works. I was in this boat, and know how it feels. I have been using this phone for roughly a day and am going to make sure I have service everywhere I need it before making my final decision (So far work and home have full H+), but if all goes well will be finally ditching Verizon at the end of the year and getting myself a Nexus that I won't have to worry about having slow updates because my carrier is lazy. At this point, I couldn't be happier and hopefully get some of you guys to at least give it a shot like I did.
Please post a reply or DM me if you have any questions on my process, I will be more than happy to help out as much as I can!
So for anyone who doesn't believe me or those of you "Pics or it didn't happen!". This is from my phone, using the Straight Talk SIM. Data speeds are no where near Verizon's nor is the ping but I am on WiFi 90% of the time anyways so just having a data correction is my main priority.

Love it, I've been thinking about escape for some time so I appreciate the write up. The Note 2 is the best phone I've ever used, but I've debated whether to sign my life away with Verizon again for the 3.
I tried the T-Mobile route and the coverage was so abysmal I scurried back. This gives me hope for another option. What sort of data speeds do you get when needed?
Thank you for taking the time to write that up. I was thinking about doing the same thing last year but was worried about the decrease in data. I've read in numerous threads that data just plain sucks with Straight Talk.
Could you give us an update periodically on this? Thnx!!!

No thanks. Been doing 30gb a month with Verizon. Looks like I'd be SOL with straight talk.

This was more just for a general prepaid plan. I just so happened to pick Straight Talk. So far up to 6.7 GB of usage with no issue.

Good lord you guys are data hogs!
How's the voice coverage? my 4 person family plan with only 6GB between the 4 of us is $237 a month. 4 * $45 would be a big improvement and of course, I could stop yelling at the kids for watching youtube all the time.

As I said, for me I was able to get data/voice everywhere that I went, but remember I was using AT&T's towers so it may change depending on the carrier you go with. My month is coming to an end and I have about 2 more months before I have to finally decide, but it is looking like a go as of right now.

Mike,
Thnx for the continued updates. Come back when it's go time and let us know if you permanently made the shift.
I've been considering doing exactly this, its great to know that our handsets will work with these SIMs. Did you port your number over or chose a new one? I'm curious as to how hard it would be to do so.

I personally had to get a new number as I didn't make the full switch yet but I know that Straight Talk does give you the option to port a number over.

Porting my number to T-Mobile was incredibly easy. I'm sure it's just as easy as Straight Talk. During the setup you're asked whether you want to get a new number or port your current number. That's it. Took only a few hours for everything to fully switch over to my Nexus 4 and I was on my way. I have one bill left for Verizon with my ETF and then I'll be completely free from them.
fascinating
This is really great to see. I was thinking about doing the same thing but I am worried about coverage issues.
I was in a similar situation, I have had Verizon for years on my family unlimited plan and I needed to get off of my parents' plan, so I gave Sprint a shot because I have a friend that has it. What he didn't tell me was that he has always had abysmal service everywhere, a point I discovered when I lost service repeatedly just walking across the house. Calls would drop out and I'd be lucky to even be able to send a text message in most places at work.
I abandoned ship pretty quickly and went crying back to Verizon. Unfortunately there was no way to recover unlimited data, but I checked and I only used an average of ~1.5GB a month anyway. Went in on the 4GB plan with my brother.
Verizon really doesn't care about their customers, and that goes all the way from corporate to the stores. Their customer service is pitiful. I missed one payment and they put my account on cash only for SIX MONTHS. That means I literally have to go into the store and feed a machine cash for 6 months or I can't pay my bill. Not online, not over the mobile app, not even over the phone. If you call and ask them about it they treat you like you're some second class citizen that isn't worth their time, or they just spout off how they have no control over anything.
I've also noticed over the years that the employees in the store have less and less power over anything. They can do almost nothing for your account aside from activate your new phone. You have to call customer service to do anything. If they didn't have the best coverage around by leaps and bounds, I'd never use them again.

Verizon: Upgrade Unlimited Data Line and Keep Your Unlimited Data

Just read from many sources stating that right now Verizon is allowing customers to keep their unlimited data while upgrading their line. So if you have unlimited data on your line and are eligible for an upgrade, check it out and let us know your results.

I was seemingly able to keep unlimited data as well. The strange part is that I did not get any information concerning what data plan I have on the confirmation email or the order confirmation page. It definitely did not switch me off of unlimited during the checkout process though. In fact, I just tried it with another line (without finalizing the order) and it did the same thing. All it says is Plan Details: Voice: LINE ACCESS $9.99 0711. I think i saw someone else mention the same thing happening to them as well but am not sure. Anyone else seeing the same?

Yes the same thing happen for me last night when I tried. I went all the way to right before placing the order and it never mentioned my unlimited being changed. But there's no way I'm placing that order without having someone on the phone lol

Yes. I am seeing the exact same thing. It says my monthly cost is only 9.99 a month for that line. It shows no data plan. Early in the checkout it did say unlimited data, but didn't mention it again. I was afraid to order. Strangely, if I select the note 3 it will act normal. I am even able to go back and change the phone to the g2. It shows my unlimited data at the end. The only problem is I cannot enter the $60 off promo code. Didn't want to take a chance on the first method.

On the phone with Verizon now. Was informed that I no longer have unlimited data. I told them to cancel my order and give me my unlimited back. They put me on hold...

Thanks. I am still on the phone. Was now told that I do still have unlimited data (I have no idea how he made that mistake). I'm now on hold while he reads some of the articles about this online.
Also wanted to add that it should not be possible to have a $9.99 plan on a smartphone anyway. Really strange. The phone rep is now talking to a supervisor.

FWIW I checked my confirmation email and it still has the "Unlimited Email & Web for Smartphones (personal email)" for $29.99 listed under the Plan Features. I think I'll hold off on calling them pending your results, mfucci.
I just did this today to upgrade to a G2. Did not change my data (as far as I know) and still showed unlimited during checkout.
http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/29/verizon-wireless-website-unlimited-data-upgrade/ has a running comments section with people posting chat logs with verizon reps saying you will keep your unlimited
So it worked? If it did then I might go ahead with the order.

Not sure. The phone rep is now saying that I still do have unlimited data but that he is also encouraging me to cancel the order. My issue is strange though. I was able to complete the order without changing my plan but now have seemingly no data plan on my order confirmation.
oops...didn't see that the OP started two threads on this. Anyway, it worked for me. Upgraded today (via in-store pickup) and am currently using the G2. Checked my account after activation and it still shows the same plan with unlimited.

That does sound strange. I posted earlier that I received a confirmation email that still showed the $29.99 unlimited data under the plan features, but judging by the rest of the comments on here it looks like I may be in the minority... I guess for me it's a good thing that the phone doesn't ship until mid-November since presumably that would give be a bit more time to cancel my order.

Sprint`s Gear S info.

Just read this.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gear_s_tipped_to_have_its_own_plan_on_sprint-news-9972.php
I think that is the pricing that all the phone providers are looking to be at. Any more then 10 bucks a month and people will not go for it as that is the same price as normal cell phone.
Nice find atleast hear something
http://9to5google.com/2014/10/30/samsung-gear-s-release-date/
So I walked into a Sprint Corporate store yesterday morning to inquire about the Gear S and phone combo. The employees were not even aware that it was coming Nov 7 I kindly reminded them it was announced on sprints website and all over the internet. One employee told me if it were coming out this Friday the store would brief them on Wednesday. The other employee told me that the Gear S will have it's own phone number. While another told me it is Bluetooth only. I said this all to say they are clueless and I'm still left wondering how Sprint will deal with this uicc card in the Gear S as LTE will not be available for this. I also called Sprint Sales Center they had no Idea the watch was coming to the USA so soon.
Thats crazy. I myself went into best buy spoke to a Samsung employee and he didnt know that it was coming out this week.

Consigning, I've called five Verizon and four Best Buy stores and they have no clue when they will receive or sale the watch. There were some Samsung reps at Best Buy who never heard of the watch. Really? How is that possible?
I had a long chat with the T-mobile rep who sold me the Gear Circle. He said they are selling the watches this Sunday, 9 November. If Verizon or Best Buy doesn't come through I will purchase the watch outright from T-mobile and put a Verizon sim in it later. I want the watch NOW!

It's our watch and we want it now lol. Yes If t-mobile will allow me to pay the 350 plus taxes with no contract I will gladly pair it to my Note 4 Sprint. I don't plan to use the standalone internet i will bluetooth tether the gear S. and forward my calls when I want to leave the phone at home.

FYI, Verizon SIM only works for LTE. Since, Gear S doesn't appear to support LTE, that will be useless. And probably will never work because you will need CDMA hardware inside and with CDMA, the ESN of the watch must be already registered with the carrier.

I'm pretty sure the watch will need to have an active SIM to work with receiving calls when your phone is not near.

I read the calls will be forward to the watch when you leave your phone at home. Other wise the gear will have a separate number for the phone and there will be no need to pair the phone besides downloading apps. Sprint does not have SIM cards they have uicc cards that give LTE only which the Gear S will not have.

I have unlimited on my phone and they expect me to pay 10$ month for 2 years for some minutes and text on a watch. Or get off my unlimited and move to family to share my data with my watch hum.. no thanks to on contract
F U Sprint I just walked out of AT&T with my Gear S off contract no way I would pay 416$ (384 plus tax)
when I just paid 325.49 (299 plus tax) Although I still have my Note 4 with Sprint

JUST IN CASE YOUR WONDERING
So I had a long confusing talk with Sprint this morning and the Sales Rep say's this there are 2 options for Sprint right now either or you add it to you Family Share plan (As long as it has 20GB or more to share). The gear has its own NUMBER. If you use all of the 100MB before the month is up they will Suspend your Gear S until you pay the overages or just wait for next month to pay again. When your phone is at home the Gears Number, messaging and data will be used . It is considered a mini phone. So if you have unlimited everything your watch will have a mintues/text plan of 1,000 100GB internet. It is best to use Bluetooth a lot. Unless you don't use internet if you want to cancel your plan from watch (9.99 a month for 2 years) 200$ cancellation fee
so happy i'm with t-mobile. they're treating the device like a tablet . if you go over your data it will just slow down, they won't charge you extra

That would make more sense for all carriers to do right. Do you know how much t-mobile is for outright? I may return this to AT&T and buy t-mobile to get free data for life lol thats what they advertize anyway
So I work at an AT&T store but I have Sprint service on my Note 3 because I need unlimited. Can I buy the watch from my AT&T for a discounted price and still put it on my Sprint plan for $10/month or is the watch carrier locked to AT&T then? I can get it from my store for under $300 after taxes with my discount, but I want it to work with Sprint service on it and I didn't think that was possible. Can someone clear this up for me please?
All US Gear S watches are carrier locked. Even it is not locked, you can't use a GSM(AT&T) phone on CDMA(Sprint) network. That will never happen.

Sadly we've preliminarily determined that it does not use the hybrid GSM/CDMA architecture, even though it's chipset supports it. There have been no teardowns and no root yet, so we don't know what the radios include. The FCC documents say that there are at least two completely separate versions, one for GSM (AT&T/T-Mobile) and another for CDMA (Verizon/Sprint). They were tested separately and there was nothing indicating that they had hybrid radios.
Just have to wait until they get opened up.
It was a bad move on Samsung's part ...
