[Q]Galaxy SII "No Lockscreen" on ICS. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys , sorry for my bad english i'm European.
I dont know why but on my SGS II i9100 on every ICS rom , Samsung or Unofficial i get no lock screen or power off menu. The only fix i attempted is Permissions Fix from CWM but lockscreen is still missing.
Any fixing methods?

Hi,
just want to make sure, you happened to choose "No scree lock" for Screen security?

That would be a terrible excuse if you were from the UK
Anyway, have you wiped data and caches?

re
hehe ^^
does not matter what i chose from settings , no lock , slide , pattern or pin. screen lock simply does not work.. and when i press the power button ( lock button ) for 2 seconds the phone shuts down , without the power off confirmation. pretty annoing.
Yes xethor , i did. Steps i did : permission fix from CWM , data / cache delete , factory reset.. still nothing
i dont think it's beacause of the custom ROM , i get no lockscreen in oficial sammy rom or any ICS rom.

Pretty sure this is the 3rd fail thread on this in as many days. Why you guys make new threads every time instead of using dedicated threads is beyond me.
Anyway, see posts in other threads.

- Download "Terminal Emulator" app from market
- open it
- type into the command shell you just got:
Code:
su
echo -n ON > /efs/imei/keystr
sync
reboot

re
thank you HellcatDroid and oinkylicious ! problem solved !

my problem solved to!!!! thank you man !!!

thanks!!! it's help me also!

don't wanna be the scrub, but my lock screen is still gone. restored all of my efs backups and it's still not back any other thoughts?
EDIT: after a bit of derp on my part, I realized that the EFS folder wasn't keeping my changes despite all the attempts to restore the keystr file. In order to fix this, I had to set all permissions to 777, then reset the keystr file to ON. Once I had my lockscreen and boot menu back I just rebooted into CWM and proceeded to fix permissions.
in short, if the editing doesn't work:
1) Change permissions of the EFS and IMEI folder to 777
2) edit the keystr file
3) fix permissions in CWM

And how did I set efs and imei permission. Plz?

It fixed mine too!!! however the IMEI still starts with 00... I know thats not right since samsungs imei starts with 3 soemthing. please help how i can restore my original imei
thanks

Not working lockscreen and power button menu on stock ICS

Hello.
I had searched for answer for last two days. But nothing found, only answers for rooted phones.
The problem is, when I push power on/off button it locks, but when push it to unlock it doesn't show any slide lockscreen, pattern lock or smtn. + when I hold power button, it just shutdowns, without any airplane mode etc.
Hope, u'll help me.
P.s. The only answer for this is, I've to root phone again, change that one file and unroot it back to stock? If it's possible..

As I said, I can't edit it cuz my phone isn't rooted(phone doesn't give access to Root Explorer.apk)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
That is the fix. You will have to root to do it. If you don't want to root, then you won't be able to fix it, and should flash back to a Gingerbread firmware.
Its going to need one a factory reset and two if that fails a re download of the firmware .
Probable that either flash was not 100% or firmware file not 100% .
You dont have any other choice staying in the non XDA dev world as you are restricted .

no lie, clearing your phone efs was probably the dumbest thing you could do. especially if you have no backup. in no instructions i have seen do they tell you to clear efs which contains all the phone's information (imei, mac address, etc).
if you don't have a backup of your efs folder, you're done. have to send it back to samsung

I would .
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery ( root and cwm kernel required )
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system and sd card .this will wipe the lot .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware GB version only this will wipe root .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

To make it even easier for other people (from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22103709&postcount=5):
Tools Needed:
1. Root Explorer
Steps:'
1. Using root explorer locate the /efs/imei/ folder. In that folder there should be a file called keystr. In my case the file was missing which is why the home-button, power button and the lock screen was missing and was causing my problems.
2. using root explorer create a new file called keystr
3. also in root explorer open the file keystr in text editor and type ON
6. make sure you save the file.
7. reboot.

Face unlock ~ PIN problem
Hello,
My problem is that I have face unlock which unlocks fine and everything is perfect, but if it fails to recognise me it takes me to enter a PIN. I can put in a PIN, in fact any PIN no matter how long or short it is. I have attempted to put in the PIN that I remember it was and am pretty sure it is the one I have set. Also this happened suddenly and I don't know why.
Things I have tried:
>Format cache & Dalvik
>Fix permissions
>Attempted to change it (Via settings)
>Edited the file "efs/imei/keystr" to "OFF" and "ON"
Things to consider when solving this problem?

[Q] Lock Screen Failure

Hi guys! My unit is from " SHW-M250S" which i converted to "i9100" and currently running on "ROOTBOX JB 3.0"
The problem is like this:
My "LOCK SCREEN" is not working EVERYTIME i flash a stock rom. (Lockscreen works with rootbox though)
I just cant understand what's causing this error.
I tried downloading other stock rom. So far I at least tried "TWO" stock roms the other one is pre-rooted.
Another problem when flashing stock rom and some other custom roms is:
My phone shuts down when press+hold the power button in just a matter of second instead of activating the power menu first before shutting down.
Please help.
Does anyone here having the same issue?
What can you suggest?
I appreciate your help.

Problem with Samsung Galaxy s2 GT-I1900
Hi all, I am facing big problem with galaxy s2 I tried all new jelly bean official roms and also try to fix it using (keystr ... ON) as mentioned in this forum and didn't get any result. So, if any one have this problem please, tell me what is the solution.
I did factory reset before and after. Also no result
What else do I need to do?
you have to deep clean your S2. I mean, FULL WIPE and ics or jb STOCK (ODEXED) firmware install via odin, without the PIT file (DON'T use PIT).
If that doesn't work, well, it's serious.

!!! Important: Set permissions to r/w !!!
Hi,
many thanks for the helpful hints!
We had the same problem on some of our SGS2 (Provider: Tre/Italy). The keystr "ON" had been fixed, but the most important hint was to SET THE PERMISSIONS for the keystr, factorymode etc. files in the efs and/or factoryapp folders.
The "fix permissions" option in some custom recoverys did NOT solve this issue. You have to set them manually to R/W with linux commands in a terminal OR with a root explorer.
It seems to happen if you update a very old android GB version directly to 4.x.x.
Hope this helps some.

Herea my experience , tried everything, but nothing worked for me , then I found a s2 with working power menu and everything .. noted its firmware .. searched on net (link given below) and flashed everything(pit, tar file etc) in package .. everything is running as it should .. Sharing it coz I didnt find proper solution for me anywhere . (I flashed everything as this tutorial says)
http://www.trickytweaks.com/i9100xxlsj-4-1-2-galaxy-s2-i9100-jelly-bean-update-tutorial.html
Worked!
This procedure is very risky and unsafe, I accept suggestions of another permission level to apply. Do at your own risk.
In my case I used the terminal emulator and gave the following commands:
Code:
# Chmod 777 factorymode
Code:
# Chmod 777 FactoryApp
Code:
# Chmod 777 keystr
It worked very well for me, returned to work without me needed if you want to restart

There's another method that doesn't require root.. pretty simple. There's a video on youtube about it. I can't post links since I'm a newbie.. but if you search on youtube for this "3wYU0fu6s6E" the video will show up in the results.. it was pretty easy, the guy explained to simply input a code in the dialer and the menu started showing up.
I'd post it here but I think since he made it public he should at least get the views.. I guarantee you, it will be worth your time.. no terminal or root required at all and it solves the problem.. you'll take longer watching the vid than actually doing the procedure..

Can't Backup'ing EFS Partition

My phone lost his Imei after restoring to factory settings. I have root, and I was trying to do it because I have root so unrooted&wipe but after wipe my imei lost again, (once happened again, that time i sent it to service and came in good condition) but I found the EFS backup ing and editing with a hex editor will set things to order but even I have root and giving permissions to any program wont see SU.
Galaxy Toolbox prog. can't find any EFS and I could not be able to edit it. There is no Galaxytoolbox folder (or YGSxyz folder) in sdcard. And if I look with root explorers, there is no things in efs folder.
I mean to use this method but I do not have anything in my efs folder.
Any Ideas?

iM happy to you....
I have a weird problem
I tried restoring IMEI with every possible method
But it didn't get restored
Even flashed stock firmware
Didn't help
Though after some retries, I was able to restore it back but then too, I disappears after some reboots

Yes
But I was using them for last 5 months without a problem

[Q] This just puped up when i was restoring my EFS !

so last night I planned to come back and find a new ROM to install and I did found one ( PardusHDRom_412_final ). After installing the rom as it said how to do, the phone started up normally but I noticed there is something wrong with the network. it just show Emergency calls only!
so I started looking up for the cause of the problem and I got that it was the EFS. the recovery made a backup before the installation which I didn't knew that has been done. so I tried to just easily copy and past the folder with my backup and everything will be good to go. IT WORKED xD I got network and made calls and everything working very normally but it wasn't the ROM I wanted to have. I said if it happened once and worked then it will happen again after installing the rom I want. I installed the official ROM and Rooted it and tried doing what I did before but it didn't work and now im getting this msg all the time.
the rom it worked on was paranoid1.4
I tried doing factory reset and it showed me the same thing.
I installed another Official ROM but no luck and still this msg showing up..
Any help?
Its called factory mode and its documented in the imei / efs sticky thread from general > sticky roll-up

ok I tried both steps it provided and no luck yet so now im trying restock and give it a try with the backup I have of efs. wish me luck xD thanks for the fast replay
I tryed this, and it worked very well:
Go into Root Explorer. Go to /efs/FactoryApps/ and open the file "factorymode" with a texteditor.
Then delete "OFF" and write "ON" there. Now reboot and it will work.
Next time if you have to copy your EFS, just change it on your computer before copying.

No, it didn't work. I tried with both ES file explorer and Root explorer ( blue icon ) it didn't do anything!
Maybe you screwed permissions up by copying your backup the way you did.
You should put your backup on pc and follow the adb guide in my thread to delete and restore efs again.

you mean this?
I'm stuck in factorymode, is this related?
Yes, factorymode is caused by corrupt efs. It is possible to fix it with root and a terminal emulator.
Firstly try these commands (case sensitive)
Code:
su
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/factorymodeIf they fail, use the more detailed commands:
Code:
su
rm /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
rm /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
echo -n ON >> /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
rebootThis should hopefully return you to user mode. If not, restoring to stock and / or restoring an efs backup may be the next things you try before sending for repair.
I followed every step you said and I even read it again. cant I just do fix permission from recovery?
I hope you not laughing at me right now! lol

ok here is what happened. I tried finding a way to fix this. I don't know if it possible to just wipe the efs folder out to just reset it to default as it was so then I can be able to get the F*** out from this factorymode ( its really annoying ).
I flashed official ROM 4.0.4 and that's the full name ( I9300XXALE8_I9300HTSALE2_I9300NELE4_HOME.tar.md5 ). Network worked fine, I could make and receive calls and sms but that was the weird this that I noticed which there was no setup steps in the beginning as every new setup roms. so I did an update and another one and then another one then I got to the 4.1.2 now and im having the msg right now again.
can I format the efs partition ? is there is any other way than the one provided in your sticky forum?
btw changing from OFF to ON didn't work because it was already ON.
You'd only have the set up wizard if you factory reset.....
You need to delete EFS contents and restore your efs backup.

Ok all done. this time its DONE and working as normal again and here is what I did exactly.
after installing lots of Roms to find a way to get the hell out of the factorymode, the last rom I been using was Pardus HD. I tried changing from OFF to ON in factorymode file by text editor but it wasn't any luck by that because it was already ON. after I read what RootSU said in the last replay ( thanks a lot for your help ) deleting all efs partition files and restore the backup I hade. I deleted everything in this folder and just went into recovery ( philz touch ) did a factory reset and then chose installing new rom so it deleted everything. I went to mount and partition and did a format to cache and system again and then I installed a new rom ( Omega V48.1 ). the phone started but it was in factorymode still. opened ES file explorer and went to efs/factoryApp/ and then I opened the factorymode file with text editor and it was off so I changed it from OFF to ON and restarted the phone.
phone started in startup setup and after that everything back to normal. Im NOT gonna try flashing any roms for now, I will just enjoy my phone that back from factory f*** mode and maybe later I will see something new to flash or just back to stock.
im posting this because there is lots of people in factorymode and I know how they feel about being in this **** mode. it is really pain in the ass.
thank you so so so much RootSU and everyone helped me out.

Thanks for the update.
Hey, have a look at custom backup jobs in Philz. The EFS backup done by Philz is very good. Now you have a working one, it's easy to restore. Highly recommended.
