Not working lockscreen and power button menu on stock ICS - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I had searched for answer for last two days. But nothing found, only answers for rooted phones.
The problem is, when I push power on/off button it locks, but when push it to unlock it doesn't show any slide lockscreen, pattern lock or smtn. + when I hold power button, it just shutdowns, without any airplane mode etc.
Hope, u'll help me.
P.s. The only answer for this is, I've to root phone again, change that one file and unroot it back to stock? If it's possible..

edit keystr file inside /efs/imei (if it's not there create it), then type ON inside it and reboot, that should do it

As I said, I can't edit it cuz my phone isn't rooted(phone doesn't give access to Root Explorer.apk)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA

That is the fix. You will have to root to do it. If you don't want to root, then you won't be able to fix it, and should flash back to a Gingerbread firmware.

Its going to need one a factory reset and two if that fails a re download of the firmware .
Probable that either flash was not 100% or firmware file not 100% .
You dont have any other choice staying in the non XDA dev world as you are restricted .

no lie, clearing your phone efs was probably the dumbest thing you could do. especially if you have no backup. in no instructions i have seen do they tell you to clear efs which contains all the phone's information (imei, mac address, etc).
if you don't have a backup of your efs folder, you're done. have to send it back to samsung

We know your thread has been hijacked by a poster who wiped efs and his keyboard .
I would .
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery ( root and cwm kernel required )
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system and sd card .this will wipe the lot .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware GB version only this will wipe root .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

To make it even easier for other people (from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22103709&postcount=5):
Tools Needed:
1. Root Explorer
Steps:'
1. Using root explorer locate the /efs/imei/ folder. In that folder there should be a file called keystr. In my case the file was missing which is why the home-button, power button and the lock screen was missing and was causing my problems.
2. using root explorer create a new file called keystr
3. also in root explorer open the file keystr in text editor and type ON
6. make sure you save the file.
7. reboot.

Face unlock ~ PIN problem
Hello,
My problem is that I have face unlock which unlocks fine and everything is perfect, but if it fails to recognise me it takes me to enter a PIN. I can put in a PIN, in fact any PIN no matter how long or short it is. I have attempted to put in the PIN that I remember it was and am pretty sure it is the one I have set. Also this happened suddenly and I don't know why.
Things I have tried:
>Format cache & Dalvik
>Fix permissions
>Attempted to change it (Via settings)
>Edited the file "efs/imei/keystr" to "OFF" and "ON"
Things to consider when solving this problem?
>I do not want to deleteany of my data
>Says "Android is upgrading..." after every boot

Just reflash modem.
If you didn't back up your efs folder, you might be out of luck. Try flashing the stock firmware for your provider and see if that helps.

so no i havnt backed up that folder, that cant be the only way to fix this?
i have looked in my efs folder and there is some files with .bak in them so im thinking some of the roms ive flashed in the past may have done a backup or something?

If you are missing baseband, there can't be imei either so flashing modem should restore it.

It means you still dont have modem for some reason.
If you have flashed new kernels recently, go back to kernel which worked and then reflash modem.

When you changed CSC, Your IMEI got corrupted. Only way to restore is efs back up or reverting back to original firmware. This should work ...
If not , You may try this one , http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837239
I was able to solve it using this method. You need to be rooted to do this ...
This will void your warranty ... so be careful.
I would definitely not recommend using a i9000 method of getting the baseband, imei back on a i9100.
The EFS folder contains critical files for the IMEI, Baseband, serial number of the phone etc.
Check in the Q&A threads and in here someone else also had the same issue and they managed to resurrect their phone with some developer support.
Good luck, only other option is a repair job and just say kies crashed through the firmware update and now the phone doesn't boot.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

[Q]Galaxy SII "No Lockscreen" on ICS.

Hi Guys , sorry for my bad english i'm European.
I dont know why but on my SGS II i9100 on every ICS rom , Samsung or Unofficial i get no lock screen or power off menu. The only fix i attempted is Permissions Fix from CWM but lockscreen is still missing.
Any fixing methods?
Hi,
just want to make sure, you happened to choose "No scree lock" for Screen security?

re

does not matter what i chose from settings , no lock , slide , pattern or pin. screen lock simply does not work.. and when i press the power button ( lock button ) for 2 seconds the phone shuts down , without the power off confirmation. pretty annoing.
Yes xethor , i did. Steps i did : permission fix from CWM , data / cache delete , factory reset.. still nothing
i dont think it's beacause of the custom ROM , i get no lockscreen in oficial sammy rom or any ICS rom.
Pretty sure this is the 3rd fail thread on this in as many days. Why you guys make new threads every time instead of using dedicated threads is beyond me.

my problem solved to!!!! thank you man !!!
thanks!!! it's help me also!
don't wanna be the scrub, but my lock screen is still gone. restored all of my efs backups and it's still not back any other thoughts?
EDIT: after a bit of derp on my part, I realized that the EFS folder wasn't keeping my changes despite all the attempts to restore the keystr file. In order to fix this, I had to set all permissions to 777, then reset the keystr file to ON. Once I had my lockscreen and boot menu back I just rebooted into CWM and proceeded to fix permissions.
in short, if the editing doesn't work:
1) Change permissions of the EFS and IMEI folder to 777
2) edit the keystr file
3) fix permissions in CWM
And how did I set efs and imei permission. Plz?
It fixed mine too!!! however the IMEI still starts with 00... I know thats not right since samsungs imei starts with 3 soemthing. please help how i can restore my original imei
thanks

[Fix]-No lockscreen and power menu-Ics Fix

After hours of trying to fix this issue where my lockscreen wouldnt show up on ics and my power menu wouldnt work and my home button wouldnt work sometimes. Here is a fix
ok so the problem is this-The efs partition is corrupted
1.) You must have the Samsung drivers installed for the i777, available from samsungs website
2.) Once installed, download the attached zip, its a copy of ADB with the needed file inside
3.) Unzip to any location
4.) Boot phone into cwm
5.) Go into Mounts and Storage, and select "mount /efs". Once done connect usb cable to phone and computer
6.) Open command prompt and navigate to the unzipped adb. Issue the following command "adb devices" it should list phone
7.) Now issue the following command "adb push keystr /efs/imei"
8.) Reboot phone and check presence of keystr file in /efs/imei directory with Root Explorer
An alternative for all the noobs-
1.Download Root Explorer
2.Navigate to Efs in the root of youre gs2
3.Create a folder called imei {if not already there}
4.Create a file in the folder imei called "keystr" -Ex. http://db.tt/Pk2U8Nws
5.Hold on the file keystr till you see a menu pop up in root explorer
6.Click on text editor
7.Type "ON"
8.Click save and exit

Can't Backup'ing EFS Partition

My phone lost his Imei after restoring to factory settings. I have root, and I was trying to do it because I have root so unrooted&wipe but after wipe my imei lost again, (once happened again, that time i sent it to service and came in good condition) but I found the EFS backup ing and editing with a hex editor will set things to order but even I have root and giving permissions to any program wont see SU.
Galaxy Toolbox prog. can't find any EFS and I could not be able to edit it. There is no Galaxytoolbox folder (or YGSxyz folder) in sdcard. And if I look with root explorers, there is no things in efs folder.
I mean to use this method but I do not have anything in my efs folder.
Any Ideas?

srt99 I'm not a professional android user, not linux anyway, so I dont want to interact with changing roms because there is no Turkish rom in sammobile or any like (I do not use Turkish language on my phone, but still my guarantine is continue and will send if I could not make it. )

You don't have to be a professional, like everybody can do this. Just flash this through cwm and you have stock kernel again.

Any Ideas?

I couldnt figure out why, while I'm trying to update binary it couldn't gain root access even given permission to superuser inself. Tried to install SuperSU from chainfire but it does not install it. even with ccw mod installer.

whoami - who am i
However, this is used on Linux to check the username of the User
It is useless for s5830i
If your phone gets #
Then it's rooted
Try my Tool In Development section for backing up EFS partition

But I was using them for last 5 months without a problem

Incorrect IMEI

Bought and activated used phone 2 weeks ago. Phone worked fine thru Friday night. Woke up Saturday to find I could not connect to cell network. Call to carrier revealed my IMEI number does not match the number they have. Somehow my phone IMEI changed to 350000000000006. Internet search revealed many others with same problem. The main difference between their situations and mine is the fact that in almost all of their cases their phone was rooted and they flashed many different ROMS to their phones and something obviously went wrong. My phone is NOT rooted and I have not tried to modify anything. Simple as that. Went to bed working, woke up broken.
I have now researched this the last few days and have no clear answer. Is it possible to set my IMEI back to my correct, legal, clean and not blacklisted value? Any help is greatly appreciated.
My guess is without a backup of the original, you can't do anything about it. Best bet is probably return it to the store you got it from and get a refund/exchange.
Edit:
Fastest and safest bet would be refund/exchange.
Little research has shown other people had a similar issue. Check Nox to make sure the phone hasn't been rooted before, if it has, you know what happened. If it hasn't, chances are the phone was flagged as lost/stolen after being sold (if 2nd hand).
As for a fix, I found this:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f898/g925f-imei-350000000000006-a-2044425/
Recover corrupt IMEI (without prior EFS backup folder)
Items needed
Root Explorer
Efs folder (no need to have a backup of this prior to the disappearance of IMEI folder, but it has to be this folder on the phone)
Obviously having a rooted phone
Instructions
1- With the Root Explorer to back efs folder to the SD Card
2- For safety make a second copy of the folder to the PC
3- Once both copies made to proceed to erase the original EFS folder on your phone
4 Restart the phone
5- When you start the phone, it will automatically create a new folder EFS, Root Explorer to delete the files and nv_data.bin.md5 nv_data.bin found inside the new EFS folder.
6 Copy the folder from the SAI IMEI folder we saved on the SD card and stick it on the new EFS folder created in the root directory of your phone
7- Since the SAI folder we saved on the SD card .nv_data file copy, paste into the new folder EFS generated in the root directory and rename it nv_data.bin phone, then recopy again .nv_data file rename it nv_data.bin.bak
8- With Root Explorer /efs/nv_data.bin change the owner
9. Restart the phone
If all went well you should have recovered the IMEI can check if recovered by entering * # 06 # on the phone dialer.
Thanks for the response ProdigyThirteen.
The Knox is clean 0x0. Everything I have found says the original IMEI is clean and not flagged.
I will definitely look into the procedure you provided. It looks promising. I'll take any sign of hope I can get.
Just tried the recommended procedure but no luck. It is possible that I screwed up steps 7 + 8 because they were not clear to me.

Copy the nv_data file from the SD card to the newly generated EFS folder on the phone and name it nv_data.bin. Then make another copy in the same EFS folder and name it nv_data.bin.bak.
Then you need to set the permissions for EFS folder/nv_data.bin file. They need to be set to rw-r-r. However for this procedure you need to be rooted.

Could you tell me did it work?
No, unfortunately it did not work. After following all the steps again, the IMEI still comes up incorrect. The search continues ..........

Have you tried flashing the stock firmware again? Either by smart switch or odin?
Will try again tonight when I get home.
Callumbr1, No dice on the stock flash. I installed Smart Switch and tried to do the reinitialization. It gets along in the process and then fails in the " Device does not have DRK" error. Also have DM-verity error. I tried to find solution briefly but didn't get far. Ran out of time tonight. Will try again tomorrow. Still appreciate your help.

I remember I did have the exact DRK error on my s6 edge one and dm verity fail. The way I fixed it was by flashing stock firmware through Odin. Quote me when you try again and I'll do my best to help mate.
IMEI
If you want to get back your IMEI try Dashboard .
you will find all your devices there, then try to find a way to write your IMEI in your phone (may need root)
