What is this thumbnail folder? - Motorola Droid X2

So whenever I take pictures or add pictures to my phone, a separate thumbnail folder with duplicates of all my pictures gets created. I was just wondering what this was? And can I delete it without losing the rest of my pictures?
CM7 <3

Freeze it. Backup. Remove.
Sent from my MB870 using XDA App

Can't freeze because it isn't an app...
CM7 <3

It sounds like it might be the directory where they store the thumbnails you see in the gallery app. Where is this folder located? I can give it a look.

Ok the folder is located in sdcard/dcim and I'm running cm7. You're probably right about what it is but I was just wondering if it was necessary. It flutters up my gallery with a bunch of duplicates :/.

That's exactly what it is. I'm pretty sure if you delete it, it will just get recreated.

I don't have cm7 flashed ATM, but I know in the MIUI gallery app, you can hide certain areas of the file system from being scanned for images. Maybe there is a similar option in cyanogen?

[Q] Best Picture Galley Alternative

hey everyone I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a new gallery app. I have a ton of pictures on my phone (3000+) and looking for something thats a little more organized. Preferably something that shows most recent first since its a pain in the ass to scroll all the way through.
Thanks!

Have a look at JustPictures on the Market. Looks nice.

I'll check it out thanks!
I think Quickpic is the best it should just come stock on phones.

JustPictures is really nice. I've been using it for a while now. Only problem with it is that, on my Atrix, it only finds pictures on the internal storage. If you want it to scan the sdcard, you have to manually enter it's path.
Also discovered "Fish Bowl" recently. It has a nice, but different interface. Still fiddling with the options but, it's fun to use.

Seconded. Quickpick = greatness
QuickPic is an ios like gallery app. It's very fast. I personally like the Gallery 3D, which is the stock Google gallery app, syncs with Picasa which is excellent.

does anyone know how to change the path when you take a picture and you click on the little thumbnail in the camera app? it takes me to the stock gallery and i have to scroll through 3200 pics to get to the last one i took its really annoying...
I have a rooted atrix running gingerblur

When you are referring to Gallery 3D...is something different than just Gallery. I am trying to figure out what is my default picture app because since I've flashed a lot of different things to my phone, and am currently on GingerBlur 3.1. It uses Gallery version 1.1.30682 Is this the same as the Gallery 3D?
-Sent from Atrix-
i need to try some of these. the gallery app that came w/ gingerblur is just terrible. it never updates photos and when i shortcut-jump to it from the camera app it just opens a folder now containing EVERY photo on my phone, not listed by date.
what about a gallery app that lets me create folders.
I don't want to use a file manager for that. Is there a gallery app like that?
I've been using b&b gallery for a while now its pretty cool.
Gonna try out that quickpic though for the hell of it!
Edit: ok tried out quick pic and its definetly the fastest i've seen but b and b is still handy cause it splits your vids from your pics into seperate folders. So its a little more organized. So I'm gonna keep and use both.

Gallery 3D and Gallery ++ look like the GB gallery I believe. I think it's what Gingerblur and Greyblur come with.

No mClocks are working (Found solution!)

I've created an mClock folder on my phone, dragged the files with images into it and when I click on one of the .xml files, it shows the time/date but no image/template behind it. Ive also tried adding these files to my SD card with no luck.
Not sure why the background is not showing up, anybody have any idea?
Edit: Okay I found a solution for anybody who ends up here somehow. The mClock skin needs its own folder inside of the "mClock" folder you've created on your phones storage. So on your phones storage (didnt work on my SD for some reason), create a folder called "mClock" and within that folder create another one with the name of the zip. So I downloaded a skin called "ribbons", so the folder inside your mClock folder should be called "ribbons". Then drag everything into that ribbons folder and you should be good to go!
Sorry if confusing lol
Have you looked in the Android themes section where the mclock thread is yet? There are a lot of the same question there about mclock not showing up properly. from what I would speculate is that the background image isn't in the right folder where the xml file is supposed to find it. That usually is my problem as well.

Editing: Found solution, in OP.
sadly the solution doesn't work for me :'( ...
in my case i've tried internal and external no difference. my layout is mnt/sdcard/mclock/sayit/hdpi/xmls/ and when i select my xml it will appear in preview but not when i press back. i can grab it but it is invisible and shows nothing.
Sent from my Galaxy S II Skyrocket
You also need to make sure the "mClock" folder you create on your sd is exact....(lowercase "m", capitol "C") If not the whole path will be ruined. Inside the .xml you can look at the path, just make sure you name your folder correctly!
Ye when I posted it was just mclock but tried mClock no difference...
ok on a stock rom it won't even appear in preview anymore. it will however appear on homescreen but without xml modification its just the regular font.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727R using XDA App
are you're themes in .zip format, are you unzipping and moving the folder inside your "mClock" folder on your sd? If so, you need to open up the .xml in notepad and make sure what the path is, should be (sd/mClock/nameofyourfolder) make sure everything is spelled correctly and that everything is on the same path as the .xml, otherwise it wont work.
It was downloaded as a zip yes. But as I stated in my first post it is sdcard/mClock/Sayit/hdpi/xmls/ and it is in there

It shouldn't be all that.....it should be, sdcard/mClock/"themefolder") Inside the folder of whatever theme you're using should be the .png,.ttf font file, and the .xml. all in the theme folder of you're choice.
k now it is sdcard/mClock/Sayit
With everything in there and still not working... don't think mClock is worth all this effort

too much to type... it's a 1.17mb file
it's from R3D or some****, makes cm7 themes and made this skin to match the theme which i bought from the market. looks nice anyway but i'm not even on cm7 anymore cause my phones faster on stock.

Android 3D Gallery

Has anyone had success getting this to run properly? I installed the apk and it starts up fine, but once i enter a folder and start scrolling right through the thumbnails, eventually, once i get very deep into the folder, i get a force close. It doesnt happen with folders containing lesser quantities of images though. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Gallery app

Is there a way to hide or not show each and every image file on my phone in the gallery app. Gallery app shows not only pictures taken with my camera and albums but also images from all my apps installed. Thanks
Put a .nomedia file in folders you don't want shown. If you're unsure what that means, search for .nomedia.
I suggest that you look for an app called quickpic on the market to replace the stock gallery. Once you start using it you won't ever go back to stock. It has the functions which you need.
Thank you guys, I'll try both.

Been using Quickpic now for a long time and it's the best there is.
I'm surprised Google didn't buy this app and add their own tweaks to it as the stock gallery app isn't up to much at all.
Start any folder name with a full stop and it won't be shown in gallery even if file explorer is set to show hidden files

Need help with dropbox camera upload.

I am looking for 3 things.
1. Is there a way to disable video uploading? I only want to back up photos.
2. Is there a way to force dropbox to only upload when connected to a charger? I find the lack of this option in the app to be ridiculous really. I thought dropbox would be a fairly mature app by now.
3. How can I disable the uploading of the screenshot folder? I really have no need to back up these and it just clutters the camera upload folder.
I am rooted so if there is any root way to do it then do tell me. And if there is some other service that can provide me with all these features then do tell as well.
Thanks.
The first two can't really be solved, unless dropbox adds that functionality. For the third one you could try adding .nomedia file to screenshots folder and see what dropbox does about it. .nomedia file hides particular folder from being searchable by android aps like gallery and music, so it might work for dropbox too. Worth a try. You still would be able to access screenshots through file manager

That would be annoying as I share screenshots on whatsapp and facebook frequently so I'll just deal with it. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for pointing out that you find a solution by using a thrid party app.
I know that app is good, but i would like to find a "workaround" with the official dropbox app.
