[Q] Recommendation for a Calendar App without Google? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to try Android without GAPPS, and now I am looking for a calendar app which does not rely on the Google Calendar.
This is not an issue of using the built-in calendar app without syncing to Google, but the use of Android without even using a Google account.
Can anyone recommend a suitable app, if it even exists?

i use biz calender that lets you sync with any account google, microsoft, yahoo ect

I like Pocket Informant.

I forgot to mention, I don't really want to sync the calendar at all, but just want to use it on the phone.
The calendar should be able to handle normal appointments, birthdays and anniversaries with reminders in advance, a nice desktop widget would be nice as well.
Any more ideas?

[Q] Calendar app that syncs with Google?

Is there any app/widget that syncs with Google Calendar that works on the NC?
I've tried Jorte and others, but they all seem to rely on the background syncing usually built-in (which isn't present on the NC).
Am I missing something obvious?
thanks

[Q] Show Lotus Notes Calendar on Android Calendar

Hi.
I use Lotus Traveler to show my work mail and calendar. For my personal activities I use Google Calendar.
The problem is that I cant seem to be able to show them both in the same app. I know it is possible to sync the Lotus Calendar with my Google Calendar, but this has to many drawbacks so no thanks.
Does anybody know any app that allows me to import Lotus Calendar, multiple Google Calendars and show them both in a monthly view?
-Tom
I don't think this is exactly what you're looking for, but this is what I use:
http://lngooglecalsync.sourceforge.net/
Thanks. The problem with that is that calendar entries added to lotus notes on my phone wont display untill I turn on the computer and sync them. Plus the security issues with giving google access to my work calendar...
Just want an overview so that I can see all entries at once without sync..
Did anyone found a way to get all calendar entries from Lotus traveler(sync) inside android calendar without using any pc software?

[Q] Email, Contacts and Calendar Apps/Syncing

I am pretty new to android. I'm coming from a Blackberry Storm, so this Thunderbolt is insane.
I am a mac user and pretty much use outlook 2011 for my entire existence. It's got my work email and gmail attached. All my contacts are there and I use it for my calendar.
I don't want to start using other programs.
What is the best way to optimize and sync this to my phone? I found a program called sync mate that seems like it could do the trick to tie everything together, including music and photos. Is this a good application?
In regards to emailing, there are two apps on my phone for email, mail and gmail. Can I just use the mail app for both and stop using the gmail one? Should I use gmail app for it and the mail app for my other, work email?
To better sum up, I'm using these apps on my mac computer:
Outlook 2011 - Both email accounts, contacts, calendar
iTunes - Music and videos
iPhoto - Photos
There seems to be a million options on the phone side of things and I'm just trying to find the simplest and optimized way to sync all of this. SyncMate seems the best way, but I'm not sure and also what the best apps to use on the phone for each of these.
Thanks.
Itunes- make a folder in the phones SD card called music or whatever and drag your songs into it the phone will do the rest. ITunes will not sync an android phone
IPHOTO- same as iTunes
Emails- have you ever considered fowrarding your work email to your gmail or setting up your work email in your gmail? Gmail will be able to hold all of your calendar data extra... And Gmail will let you send emails as your work email from your gmail. In my opinion gmail is the best so any way to get everything in one place is the best. Also the google phones aka android work the best with the google email...
THUNDERBOLT

[Q] touchdown for tablet (exchange)

Are there any Touchdown users out there on the 10.1? I find this app way better than the pre-installed mailclient. Especially since the pre-installed client has major sync issues for me.
But, I wonder if anyone has managed to sync the calendar from touchdown to the stock calendar? I would like that, so I have both gmail and exchange calendar in the same view.
If anyone knows if this is possible, thanks!
You can install Google calendar sync on a pc with outlook on it and it will sync your outlook calendar to Google.
Thanks and a good idea, but I really like to keep google (private) and exchange(work) separate, but would like to be able to view them both in the default calendar on the GT. Is it not possible?
Touchdown is working well for me including the calendar. The license is only supposed to be good for one install but I was able to register my phone and my tablet.

Are you having calendar synced with the builtin calendar as well? I know it works well with the touchdown calendar but I want to use the builtin version..

Unfortunately you cant do that. My solution was to use the Pure Calendar widget and tell it to show both my Touchdown and Google calendars in the same view.
Touchdown world great but honestly for same money Moxier works and looks 100-times better. You can also use the same purchase/license on your phone. Your email, calendar, tasks, notes, and contacts are all synchronized over the air via exchange active sync. The contacts will show up in your phones contacts, but can only be edited in the Moxier client itself. So on your phone caller ID and dialer will recognize your coworkers that call, text, or email you outside Moxier.
It's got a trial version you can try. I already had a Touchdown client paid for and bought this after I tried it on my Nook Color. Its awesome. Moxier just trumps it.

Your calendar will be separate on Moxier but it has a nice set of Widgets that can be use along side the stock Widgets on a singlebhome screen. I sort of like having them separate. I always end up creating personal events in my work calendar and vice versa when they are together.... which is counter productive at times.

I'm very pleased with the touchdown tablet edition. I've been using td on my phone, but I'm in Cancun this week, and telmex networking doesn't seem that stable, so I've been using the tablet version on my SGT. It took me a while to get used to the new navigation style, but I'm liking it.

Calendar syncing issue on Galaxy S3

I'm just starting off with Android, and I can't figure out how to get my Google Calendar synced with the S3. Here is a screenshot of when I hit Calendars in "S Calendar": http://i.imgur.com/p3CcV.png
When I create a new event, I can choose which calendar it should be in: http://i.imgur.com/7V5lS.png
I created a Test event and tried choosing either of the other calendars, saving and syncing, but no matter what I cannot see the event on any other machine with my Google account. In Accounts and Sync, my Google account options are all checked to sync. This damned thing will not sync, though
(Contacts syncs fine, thankfully). Would appreciate any help!

My advice is to login from your notebook or desktop computer first and access Google Calendars directly as you can setup your main calendar much easier there. Once setup (calendar name, color, sharing options, etc), you can easily go under S Calendar and choose to sync the name of the calendar you just created online.
Afterwards, you'll be able to add/delete events from both your device or on your computer. Hope this helps!
Thanks, the problem is a little different now as I finally got the damned thing to sync with my Google account. Now, every time I create a new Event I keep getting the default calendar to be Samsung Calendar: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iq8bco0pnp7s2ni/Screenshot_2012-06-28-21-23-52.png
Yet in the S Planner Settings > Calendars I have this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hdj6hpp3tjvo66y/Image-1530870737.png As you can see, I only have my Gmail account checked, I have the My Calendars/Tasks and Samsung account all unchecked.
I even went into Accounts and Sync and unchecked every option for my Samsung account there, so the only account syncing right now on my phone is my Google account. Still the new Events in S Planner default to the Samsung Calendar!?! Greatly appreciate any way to solve this
Have you tried clearing data in calendar and calendar storage in settings yet? Then resync calendar stuff after that.

I'm having the same issue after I created a new gmail account. It syncs fine with my BlackBerry. When I added my new gmail account on my S2 it wouldn't sync my calendar or contacts. I thought there was an issue with my S2. It won't sync to my S3 as well. Is there something in gmail that I have to do? The calendar dates are still syncing on my old gmail account.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks, I did that, even rebooted the phone, but Samsung Calendar is still default. I think I'm going to use Jorte and forget about S Planner, despite how great it looks :/
I fixed my gmail calendar sync issues. No need to respond in case someone figures it out later on.
I got Calendar Calendar Events synced just fine, but apparently it won't sync Google Tasks. It wants you to use the Samsung-specific task system I guess. That sucks.
As soon as I root my phone I will delete the calendar app. I use the "Jorte" calendar app (available in Play store) which syncs everything and has the most robust options of any calendar app that I've seen so far (wince the last time I went app hunting last November, could be new apps by now). Jorte allows you to view Google Calendar Events and Google Tasks at the same time in multiple, customizeable different types of views (monthly, various versions of weekly views, daily, etc). Jorte is SUPER customizeable. I have found no other app that comes close in terms of functionality.
Another app call "LLama - Location Profiles" lets you automatically customize just about any aspect of your phone depending on your location and time of day. It will change your profiles automatically when you enter or leave a location at certain times. You can even tell it to remind you about something based on location and time. For example, you can have Llama remind you to "Clean Mom's car" when you arrive at Mom's house, or to "Ask my boss that question before I leave work!" if you are at your work location and it is almost time to leave.
That's a shame Samsung won't let you sync Google Tasks.
It's even more of a shame that Android's native Calendar app doesn't support Google Tasks. Come on now Google!

Thanks, yeah I have gone through oodles of calendar and task apps over the last few days, tried damn near everything worth trying, and I've settled with an excellent combo for me: Astrid + Jorte + Agenda Widget. It does everything I need. Thanks for the Lama app heads-up, will check it out!

Can you share what you did?
Similar issue, if I create an event using s panner on my phone, the event doesn't sync to my gmail calender.
However, the planner does tkae events from the desktop g-calender.

same here
What's the "desktop g-calendar?"
Though I've been using Jorte all this time quite happily, after resetting a few days back I solidified that not entering your Samsung account information on first boot of the phone solves the S Planner syncing/calendar choice issue pretty much. You must set your Google account up first, then a Samsung account if you'd like. S Planner will then see the Google account as "default" and use it.
desktop as in when i access from my desktop pc. or laptop.

S3 Calendar Syncing issue
I just added a Google Calendar from the play store. Synced instantly!
unprofessional
Dear Google-Android- and Samsung-S3-developers!!
Here is a list of some very annoying facts:
- I have a Sasmung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 with the latest Android-Version 4.1.2.
- if I set up a new Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account on my S3 and sync it with my corperate Exchange 2010 Server I have duplicated entries in my S-Planner Calendar right from the very first sync.
- especially birthday entries (untimed entries with yearly repeat) are duplicated.
- I can reproduce this bug no matter how often I delete the calendar memory, remove and re-instal the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account, reset my phone etc.
- if I google this bug I get thousands of hits where users are reporting the very same bug with their Android phones (like in this thread).
- some of these duplicate entry bug reports go back for more than 1 year but so far no solution.
- syncing of contacts, emails and calendar entries with MS Exchange is considerd to be a basic function of a smart phone. That's why this functions is part of the pre-installed OS.
- the pre installed Exchange clients on all other devices (Apple iPhone, Nokia Symbian or Windows phones etc.) do NOT have this bug. Thus this is an Android bug and not MS Exchange.
SO WOULD YOU PLEASE FINALLY FIX THIS ANNOYING BUG IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!
