"drop-proof" case and kb dock? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I'm looking for something like the Gumdrop drop-tech case that works with the keyboard dock.
I have a problem with tablets, specifically busting them into millions of pieces due to my clumsiness (I'm looking at you, stupid slippery iPad 2). I've seen some leather cases that work with the dock, but I'm not sure those are protective enough.
Is there a case out there that has a fair degree of protection and that will allow me to use the dock?
I see some people have used the ghost armor with the dock.. does that stuff offer shock/drop protection, or is that just scratch protection?
I'm kind of assuming there's not a protective case that'll work, and if that's the situation, can I just get a transformer-whatever-connection to USB adapter so that I can use a standard USB keyboard.. or maybe even a BT keyboard?

Why not just preorder the Gumdrop. Looks like an awesome case. Never seen one like it.

Yeah, I would love that case.. but it doesn't work with the KB dock

I doubt any case like the Gumdrop will ever be made that works with the keyboard. People just don't generally make cases in that style for netbooks, which is what the Prime becomes when attached to the keyboard.
You might be better off just going with a normal light case, and then buying Accidental Damage insurance from Squaretrade. http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/our-coverage
For $99 you get two years of full coverage from damage caused by accidental drops and spills as well as damage caused by normal every day use. There isn't even a deductable on tablets (there is on phones).
Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) covers you from spilt liquids and dropped or damaged items. It's exactly what you need, whether you carry your laptop to work, bring your digital camera on vacation, or take your cell phone and MP3 player everywhere you go.
There is a $50 deductible when claiming accidental damage on Cell Phones only; SquareTrade has waived the deductible for all other ADH claims. There is no deductible if your issue occurred during normal use. ADH only covers new items - see complete details here.
ADH is only offered at time of initial warranty purchase, and can not be added once the Care Plan has been purchased.

Perfect.. was not aware of that! Do you know off-hand if anyone on the forums has used that before? I'm always hesitant on the "extended warranty" type things.. they sound good, but once you try and use them..
off to do more research on that. One of those leather cases that works with the prime + dock, and then squaretrade for when the dog (ok, probably me) inevitably knocks the thing off my coffee table.

I have not used SquareTrade but I know a lot of people who have used it to protect phones and iPads who have nothing but nice things to say about the company.
Also Resellerratings.com gives them a 9.75/10 (an unheard of score) based on over 1200 customer reviews.

The case on offer doesn't cover the keyboard dock, however since this person is making custom cases he might be willing to work with you to get a dock-compatible case as well.

GREAT CASE..Shock proof!

I Just bought this case from Staples the 13 inch was $20 on sale (mine doesn't have an Apple on it ) Came in Pink or Black.

Love it! I don't have the keyboard yet but I tried my husbands netbook and it seems like it should fit.
Thought I would share that I love it.
These cases that claim to be shock proof or make things unbreakable always make me laugh. They may stop visible damage but the internals will still be subject to a few G's when dropped, and connections might be loosened. Some protection is always welcome of course for that 'just in case' scenario, so a case is always recommended for transporting it.
But sods law states that it will be dropped when it's not in a case and it will shatter into a hundred pieces anyway. At least I bet, now that I've written this, it'll happen to me.
Having said that however the case you mention looks quite nice.

Did you find it in-store at Staples or did you order online? I'd like to take a look at my local Staples if so.....Cheap enough that I might give it a try...
I bought an "Incase" 10.5" case at Target that I really like...good cushioning, but probably not "shock proof"....
Yes I found it in the Staples Store at mine it was on an end cap. Very thick why thicker than a few that my husband has tried. I am not going to be dropping it down the stairs hopefully but for little drops I am sure it will help.
How come you bought the 13" one? doesn't the 10" one fit the TF?

You know I think I am wrong. The sign had said they only had 13inch and 15inch but now I looked and it says IPAD case so I was going to measure and I can't find a darn ruler or anything but I guess it would either have to be the Ipad case or the 10 inch because it just fits...snuggly but my husbands 10inch Asus Netbook fits int there also. So when he gets home and I can measure I will. I think though I might go get the 13inch this way I can fit the cord on the side also.
This case would be great:

If they will make a TF fitting version of it?

[Q] Case from amazon uk - which one?

I plan to get 16GB TF + dock.
I suppose it would be smart to get a case and maybe a foil at the same time.
So, which one should i buy?
Any one has one of these?

Can you recommend a foil for the screen?
The Navitech one is for a xoom, so it is probably the wrong size. I think the transformer is a bit wider than the xoom.
The TechTree one has not been released yet, so nobody has it to try. Does look interesting though!
Oh! Neither is likely to fit with the dock connected to the transformer as it lays over the screen of the transformer(I assume you mean the keyboard)

But tablet detached... different story

two cases on amazon uk
Hi guys,
I'm looking for reviews of the two cases available on amazon uk.
1. black leather case;
2. Navitech case. I think but I'm not sure if this is the case that is mentioned here.
If anyone can give me any feedback that would be nice.

This thing has gorilla glass, and based on my experiences with the epic its basically indestructible. Any screen protection would undoubtedly have an effect on the touch responsiveness so there's no way i'm putting anything on there.
Just my 2c... there are always people claiming they brushed their screen against a magazine and it got scratched to hell. Personally, I don't see it as being possible.

TBH, I have no idea what that statement means... What has you worried?
Also, I'm almost certain that the tablet in the pictures is not asus, because of the soft buttons visible on some of them. But I don't care, if it does not fit, that is their problem, because they will get it back as quickly as I can send it. And I will still expect my expenses to be covered.

Why Worried?
Because to me it looks like an ipad2 case photoshopped with a transformer screen. As the iPad2 is a differant shape Id hope it was a mockup until they get the real ones.
Ive been caught like that before and it was going to cost me money to send it back and they tried to charge a restocking fee. I dont think they can legally do this in the UK, but you might have to provide a reciept for the postage and get them to agree to pay return postage first. (Fortunately I was able to sell the item for what I paid myself)

Where are all the QUALITY leather cases?

Something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqesTZRGwyQ&context=C38b7f16ADOEgsToPDskKBMFMK6BjkFCi6z3oqRqDJ would be perfect for my needs. Something I can proudly take to the office that doesn't look like it was purchased at the local Dollar Store.
Sorry for the rant but the lack of quality accessories for this tablet is killing me.
Apparently no one wants to put money into a device that may not even survive a few months. You will only get the low end stuff really. Everyone knows Apple is the real deal and isn't going anywhere....so it is a sure bet to invest. Remember, you don't need to sell Apple stock, it sells itself.
I have yet to buy one, but this is one of the few I have seen that says it is actual leather.
http://www.skindigitalstore.com/categories/ASUS-Transformer-Prime-TF201/
If you get one and like it let me know.
My friend has a roocase for his og nd its very nice.. Here is a link to one, but they make several. I like this one because the tablet is in a "detachable" sleeve. (I have a substantially similar version made by MiniSuit but it's very cheap leather - looks fine from any distance, but for $14 I know it's not good quality - it serves a purpose and looks fine for my needs.
Anyway..... check Roocase. I've seen and handled that brand and think it is nice. MUCH nicer than most anything else available. If you don't like it, return it.
I have the Caseen Skinny and it's great.
tuff-luv.com has some great albeit pricey leather cases for not only the Prime Tablet but also the Tablet and Keyboard.
The real question is: "Where are all the quality non-leather cases?"
There are tons of options for leather cases with varying degrees of quality, but there are practically no non-leather cases.
I have the cheaper poetic/mono case and it has been great. No complaints.

How is it only going to last a few months? They are releasing the tf 700 in a couple of months, but that will be the same size so if anything the lifetime will be expanded more that it normally would be.
Also this is a good case, I got the exact same type just from a different company called Acase, because it was cheaper priced.

I also looked at the Roocase but I am concerned of the thickness the case would add to the tablet.
I also purchased the Mini Suit case to hold me over and agree that it's made of very very very cheap looking pleather.
So my search continues
I bought this case off of eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260938668106?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I have several cases from this guy on our Kindles, Nooks, iPad and now TFP. Have had some for over a year and there are holding up great.
The two problems I have with this case is that it will not charge closed or when sitting in landscape as shown.
I was skeptical about different cases i kept finding online. But after taking a proper look at this one --> "GreatShield Multi-Stand Leather Protective Folio Case for ASUS TF201 Eee Pad Transformer Prime"
I went ahead and ordered it. It cost me 20pounds and was shipped from the US. In terms of quality, It is way better than any leather case for any tablet I have seen so far including those for the ipad (and I mean it). I asked someone @ my UNI to guess how much it cost me and he said "probably 70pounds". My point is, it is of the best quality, it looks sleek, professional and prestigious. Even better is the fact that it is tailor made for the transformer prime so all ports are accessible. Its design also doesn't cover up the bezel like most other tablet cases do (something i dislike with a passion).
I trust that if you go ahead and get it, you will not regret it. Here's the amazon UK link
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006RML5ZO/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details
If you live in the US, you can search for it on amazon.com.
I hope this helps.
Cheers mate.
Thanks for the info jdeltree, unfortunately I have already purchased & tried this case
http://www.amazon.com/TF201-Transfo...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330033453&sr=1-3
which looks fairly similar and was not happy with the design. Used it for 10 minutes and went back to the cheap minisuit.
Most of my cases in the past did cover the bezel and I kind of got used to that.
I may just bite the bullet and try the Caseen one. At this rate I will end up with a drawer full of these cases in search for the right one.
Going to give the Acase another try tonight to see if I can get used to it.
The saddle leather one coming soon from tuff-luv looks promising. 99£, but saddle leather is a top quality product. Once a picture is available, ill probably order one, as long as I can get it to the states.

If you think that $10.00 is quality leather, or leather at all for that matter, then your standards are very low.
I have the caseen one, I'm pretty happy with it.. Doesn't add too much bulk but does add a good amount of protection. I feel the build quality is good too.

Office Depot
I picked up a dock a couple of days ago at my local Office Depot. They had it in stock at list price. Of course they didn't have any of the TF201 tablets in stock but plenty of the TF101s.
I'm still not sure I'm going to keep it though. I didn't buy my Prime to use as a laptop really. I bought it to use as a tablet, I've got plenty of netbooks, laptops and desktops. What really disappointed me was they don't come with a charger and cable.
I've docked mine once and didn't even remove the plastic protective covering just to see what it is all about. I can see how people are cracking screens with this thing though. The hinge is unbelievably tight.
If I do decide to sell it I will post.

almost wonder if storing tab and dock separately for things like travel and transport would be a better (safer) idea.
My local Best Buy and surrounding locations all have them in stock. I bought one a week ago just to try out when though I didn't think I would care for it. I tried it a couple times an then returned it to Best Buy. It is very very nice!! If I was in college or didn't have a new laptop that I love them I am sure I would have kept it. If any one is around the Atlanta Georgia area them check local Best Buy stores, plenty of docks in this area, no tablets though....

Wow. No one read the OP.
If you add rubber bumpers, it's probably safer to transport docked. If not, there's some suspicion that docked transport could potentially cause the glass to crack, although I don't think that's been confirmed as the actual cause just yet. Transporting separately, I'm not sure that you'd necessarily benefit - the bulk is at least the same, if not greater, and you'll have to pack them separately to avoid having the hinge scratch the glass.

I have been using my Prime with the dock since early last December and my Prime is fine. I carry this thing everywhere, work, home when I travel on vacation, etc.
After reading all the anecdotal reports of Prime screens cracking, I think the real issue with the people whose screens cracked is that the Prime's backplate is slightly warped, which puts stress on the screen. If the glass is stressed long enough any bump could lead to a crack. Probably closing the lid, or pressing the slightly warped Prime against the keyboard dock was enough to stress the glass and cause a break.
As for the real intent of the thread:
Officedepot still has them in stock. As far as I can see they have had the most consistent stock of both Prime's Docks & other accessories. I don't know if they ship to Canada though.

Gumdop Case Thoughts...

I pre-ordered the Gumdrop case months ago. During the wait for it, I began to really enjoy using my keyboard dock and now, I am not so sure I want the Gumdrop case. I can still return for a full refund. I was wondering if anyone out there uses this case and also has the keyboard dock. Is it a pain to switch back and forth?
I thought about keeping it for when I know I wont be using the dock much and for times where chances of dropping it would be greater.
Thanks!

I don't have the Gumdrop case, but I thought about getting it.
After my son purchased the OtterBox for his iPad, I finally dropped the idea.
I realize the Otterbox isn't the exact same as the Gumdrop, but I think they're similar.
The Otterbox, while providing excellent protection, is a PAIN to remove! It would make each use a the dock a minor decision, deciding if I wanted to bother taking the case off and then dealing with putting it back on! Again, I don't OWN the Gumdrop, and maybe it's unfair to use the Otterbox as a reference, but from what I've read, they (Otterbox and Gumdrop) share in two characteristics... they're both somewhat difficult to put on/take off, and they're both heavy.
Which is the 2nd negative, in my mind, to the Gumdrop/Otterbox... the weight!
If I worked in very dirty/risk prone areas, maybe I'd give it another thought.

I have a carrying case that fits my Prime when docked to keyboard too. It provides good protection for transportation...when I use it, I try to not use in a way where I could drop it. So the Gumdrop really isn't needed. Plus, the Prime looks so good without a case...
