S pen tips and apps - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Samsung posted some great tips on the Samsung mobile facebook page.
http://m.facebook.com/media/set/?se...6377.114219621960016&type=3&__user=1468660331
Thought this would be a good spot for cool s pen apps as well.

Nice I didn't know about all of those apps

This must be for the international version because it mentions editing video. I also don't think I've seen all of the exact same buttons pop up on some of the screens this shows.

It probably is. They mention one handed keyboard, but if you go into your settings, that option isn't there on the AT&T version

Most of them can be added...thus the reason for this thread.
Planning on updating with apks as I find them

any left handed tips on that page. im tired of the inaccuracy of the left hand aspect. the s-pen is made for right handed people plain and simple. and that sucks. we need a calibration app of some kind.
but i can not check the facebook page as i do not have a facebook account.

yes but it does not do a flippin thing.....lol
put it simply...when i write with my right hand on either setting the line is right under the tip of the pen. when i write with the left hand on either setting the line is always about 4-5 pixels to the left pretty much under the pen and not the tip. which makes writing and drawing a guessing game once you stop the first line.
try it out, i know it makes no difference with right handers.......but you would think they could have at least gotten the left hand setting correct. and move the line accordingly...lol
just my main nit pick of the s-pen. but i still use it regularly.....i just hate that i have to adjust instead of being able to adjust IT<<

How are you showing off your gnote?

So, as you are all probably aware of by now, this phone gets people's attention. Anywhere I pull it out strangers come up to me and ask me about it. I tell them it's like a cross between a phone and a tablet and then I show it to them in action. I usually show them the split pane email screen and then a screen grab along with some annotations with the spen.
What functions or apps are you using to show the note's capabilities to strangers with short attention spans?
Careful now, u don't wanna have one of those strangers grab it and run.

I build / repair computers so I get a lot of traffic daily and everyone here knows I like to be an early adopter of everything. I don't make it a point to show it off, but if someone see's me using it and ask about it. I'll pitch it like a salesman would. The screen size and vividness usually grabs peoples attention. As far as apps, It's android, the only novelty is the s-pen. I will let people use it that I know are responsible while they are in the shop.

That was actually one of the reasons I refused to get an iphone - the iphone people running around showing off STUPID apps. I thought they looked like tools.
Lightsabers or whatnot.
If someone approaches me about the Note, though I do want to show how great it is. I want it to do well, and I want to kind of steer people away from all the STUPID Note ads.
The biggest oos and ahhs come from:
1) Playing video - best to use a HD one already on your sd card. (youtube is lower quality)
2) The keyboard - I often hand my phone to people to let them type their contact info. They very often say, 'wow.... this keyboard sure is nice'
I use thumb keyboard 4's 5" layout, max landscape height. Very comfortable.
While I talk about the note I casually do:
3) Games - I like to show puzzle quest 2, since it is very dense graphically with statistical numbers. Casually mention that playing it on a small screen is just painful.
4) Google Maps is always impressive, especially if you demo GPS lock.
5) For 'readers - amazon kindle, minimum size font/minimum margins is very impressive. Tons of text, and very readable.
I never show off the stylus to be honest.
- Frank
Well I showed mine off to a AT&T corporate guy and got a job interview for at&t business sales from it.

Google's Project Glass looks amazing!

Hey Guys
Read the info below (and definitely check out the video) for Google's no-longer-a-secret Project Glass. I hope that this will be released to the public in the next two years or less, and even if the final product can only do half of what is shown in the video, I am still going to be the first on line to buy one! Google is definitely being innovative with this!!

Damn overclocking, I am wondering how much data charges will apply to it based on the carriers..watching certain "adult entertainment" can use up a lot of data, or so I heard
Hahaha.. yup car accidents, people falling down stairs, cliffs, buildings, getting hit by cars. Cant send a message with the person next to you hearing it, hmmm cool concept but skeptical of it being a safe device to use..
looks awesome and as far as safety id imagine some kind of lockup while driving or maybe just reading messages out loud and keeping the screen clear.
the lack of privacy is also somewhat troubling. some kind of projected keyboard would be a great integration to help with having to say things out loud or being in a noisy place.
What this video fails to show us is the 5lbs battery backpack. Have battery, processing and wireless communications really progressed to the point where all of it can fit comfortably within the weight-limit of a pair of glasses? I am dubious.

its actually not going to need a big battery. The screen its the biggest consumer on a device. Like 60% if your battery goes to your screen. These don't have a screen so it might be amazing on battery.

Privacy is the only thing I don't like about these glasses. People could be recording you and you would not even know it. It would suck also if someone hacked your glasses and watched you go every where.

Well they might make them with a speed limit, like anything above "normal" walking speed would shut the glasses off. (and above a certain excessive speed it turns back on, either to record you falling of a cliff or to be able to use as an airline passenger).
Why, oh, why can't people post in the right section? Unless Project Glass is going to be powered by a Transformer Prime in a back pack, then this should be in the...wait, it shouldn't be on XDA at all. This thing is a) not real, b) maybe won't run Android c) might not exist at all.
But then I guess with gas prices as high as they are we're probably all sitting at home being bored. *sigh* Continue misposting. No use arguing with the mob.

Or you could type "Ipad 3 gestures" in Youtube and see what he is talking about.
I was thinking the same, seeing my brothers ipad the gestures are so useful for speedy use of a tablet. Has anyone comapred the speed/responsiveness of this GMD Gesture Control to that of an ipad? I'd definitely be tempted to buy it if its as good as the ipads.

It is better. The amount of stuff you can do is simply amazing.
You can setup every single pattern you can think of to anything from 1 finger to 5 fingers. And the reaction time is instant. No lag.
The best thing is, it uses absolute 0 extra energy, the tablet has no issues going into deep sleep mode and it just work.
Right now I have something like:
4 Fingers Pinch -> Home
4 Fingers Expand -> Screenoff
3 Fingers Expand -> Recent opened apps
3 Fingers Pitch -> OverSkreen
2 Fingers From left border to right -> Back
3 Fingers Upper border to down -> Hide the Status bar (bar with clock buttons and ICS stuff).
Works wonders, you can also set it up to something like right, up, left pattern, square, triangle, you name it, to do anything you want

S-Pen usage

Okay...... Let's get some honest answers here!!!! How much do you guys really use the S-pen?? I wanted this phone for many reasons but the Pen was a big draw ( no pun Intended there). I have found that after a month I hardly use it!!

I use it daily for draw something. Other than the game... not too much. Sometimes for grocery lists and drawing on pictures. I lost it for 2 days and felt like my phone was rendered useless (not even close).
Hardly use it. Although with the light saber mod I pull it out just for the sound.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
It wasn't a selling point for me. I didn't think I would use it very much at all, and I don't.
I use it rarely.
I use it all of the time. I got mine with the original VZW release and spent the next week at a professional meeting and used it all day instead of carrying a notebook. I use it now whenever I need to enter text; much easier to me than using the keyboard. I also have the s-pen with eraser, and while it is bordering on junk, I found it is much more intuitive to just pull than out of my pocket to write a note.
I use mine quite a bit. I like using it for entering text, as well as for navigating and editing photos. The apps Button Savior and GMD Spen Control make it much more useful.
I use mine a fair bit. I have a three year old who likes to color on my phone. I'm just getting over a torn tendon in my primary hand so using the s pen was easier than typing and now I've just gotten used to it. And I have actually used the note taking feature for work and home.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
I use mine quite a bit as well. I bought mine to see if I could replace the note 10.1, which it essentially has. The main use is text entry during meetings. I also enjoy marking up pdf blueprints, as the pen makes things a lot more natural and accurate, which in the field, is essential.
Sent from my SCH-I605
I use it almost daily. It's great for web surfing so you're not constantly zooming in just to make an accurate tap. Also use it for Draw Something and for editing photos.

Polar opposite: The S Pen was not a factor at all in my decision to buy this phone. But now that I have it, I'm using the S Pen more and more. I make quick notes with it, use it on the keyboard for long emails, documents, etc. and a few other apps. It's getting to be more and more important to me.
So for me, it's gone from being a gimmick to a useful tool.
I use mine a lot but I drive cab so it's not to be able to always have something to write with on the go.

I use it all the time.
I use it to take notes in meetings. It makes my note-taking closer to professional, not like using finger to type on ipad , god knows if you are playing games or typing notes.
Pen is suitable in professional meeting room.
And the pop-up note shortcut is just awesome. when i am in a call or something, can just take down phone number or other notes.
also use Notes to draw a close circle to take a partial screenshot and share it. =)
I use my s-pen most of the time I installed flow beta just so I could type with it better.

I use my s-pen all the time. I would say that I use it more at home then in public. As a Note owner I would invest in a app called "GMD Spen Control". A little on the expensive side at $5 but it gives you more control without relying on hard controls.
Even if you took the s-pen away I would still rank the Note 2 above the HTC DNA seeing that it was the phone I was craving for mid summer. But the best thing about the Note 2 is that you don't have to use the s-pen if that's not your style. But for me the s-pen is more precise when it comes to web browsing.

LOL!!! I just mentioned GMD spen in my post without reading this one. It cannot be stressed enough that this app is a must buy if you use the s-pen. I assigned the menu, home, recent and back actions to the top of my status bar and a tap carries out the action. Or you can just perform a shortcut move to bring up buttons/apps. Must buy app.

Each Skrillex Live Case is individually numbered and comes with built-in smarts. A customizable shortcut button gives you one-touch access to your favorite stuff. You can set it to launch the phone’s camera, open any of your apps or, of course, go to Skrillex’s site.¹

I dont really understand how that is supposed to work though.
I ordered and received the Space Shield case today. Quality is okay from a case perspective, but the quality of the art on the back is done really well.
The live wallpaper and general setup of the case is done through an app called Live Case that's hosted by Google Marketing in the Play Store (not where the rest of Google's apps are hosted). There doesn't appear to be any other way to get the live wallpaper without it (yet).
I haven't seen the wallpaper during the day, but so far the night mode is pretty neat. The most flexibility you can get out of the button is to have it open an app for you, which I've assigned to a custom App Factory app from Tasker.
I'll probably use it for a few days and then go back to one of my other cases. I'm not a Skrillex fan either, I just thought the idea was cool.
Why doesn't Google actually sell cases that protect your phone? I don't understand that.

Can you post some pics of the phone with the case please?
Can't see it too, Google store in my country does not sell phones
I ordered the "Circuit Bae" case. I will receive it Tuesday. Does anyone have any feedback on the quality if this case? Scratch resistance, slip, grip, etc?
Now I want a live wallpaper of earth.
looks awful
Two images of the Skrillex case I received today.
For some reason I can only post two images per post now.
Here is a night time screenshot. Will post a day time one tomorrow.

Does the app or wallpaper running negatively impact battery? Thanks.

Oh, and can an app be launched with the screen off and the device locked? Or do you have to turn the screen on and unlock it for the app to launch that's assigned to the button?

Yes, a little, but not much at all.
Locked screen launching is a negative.
Device needs to be unlocked.
I will say that it's VERY sensitive to accidental touch. Still messing with it.
