cm9 ICS beta android 4.0 bugs - Motorola Photon 4G

Hi all,
I've posted a couple times before on getting the wifi working on stock Moto android for the photon, I cannot reply on the dev forum discussing this cm9 rom as I'm allegedly less than 10 posts or something.
Each time I boot up with aeroplane mode off (so all network stuff is on) com.android.phone crashes and I just have to press ok, it happens again each time I enable then disable aeroplane mode or type *#*#4636#*#* and turn off then on the radio.
I cannot get any mobile connection, I think the radio cannot turn on as the GSM service is "radio off".
Any ideas on how I should troubleshoot, I think loads of people have the issue but the recommended fix does not work for me (and others).
The recommended fix is to edit /system/build.prop and change ro.telephony.default_network from 7 to 0 and this does not work for me (editing it with root explorer).
I understand that it changes the network type to WCDMA prefered (I think that is another name for UMTS). One can also change the prefered network using the above code in the dialer and scrolling down to just above the button to turn the radio off/on.
Any ideas?
Update:
Sorry for taking ages to reply, seems like most people using the mopho are on Sprint using CDMA and so don't have issues, I'm in Australia on Vodafone so use GSM(2G)/WCDMA (3G).
I got this working ages ago and after a few version changes, I'm now on beta 0.4.5.1 as camera would freeze after taking a picture (including freezing the camera system so face unlock stopped) on beta 0.4.4.
Yes, reflashing rom after editing ro.telephony.default_network to 0 does fix it, but one does not have to reflash, just reboot into recovery and do factory reset other basics may work, though I tried cache, dalvik cache and permission fix, that did not seem to fix it for me. I think factory reset in recovery formats: data, cache, ext-sd/android....something file and one or 2 other things.
I think formatting data gets rid of all your settings, maybe one does not need the data reformat, I wonder if the android file on the SD card has certain settings with the RIL.
When you are having the GSM issue and no signal, under the more menu which is under wireless & networks, there is no "mobile networks" option and when dialling *#*#info#*#* (4636) under phone information, I think GSM service says "radio off".
Yes, after I did make a post, it did say 4 posts and then I actually knew I how many I had done, I was unsure as I had posted quite a lot about the early wifi issues when Spring crippled the original rom but I was also posting in the Moto owners forum and could not remember how many posts I had done in this forum.
Any way, will update if I think there is anything else useful to add/ask. I just love the openness of Android, especially compared to the iPhone, its just so great that someone may download the source and port it to a device such as what Joker and the others helping him out did, so now we have ICS on a very powerful and capable device. As much as Jobs may have had all sorts of issues with similarities between Android and iOS, we have more use from it and "like" google better from it (without spending crap loads of money on one of like only 2 devices available, we just have soooo much choice;-)
Fisher

Ok, so I understand that editing the file line above (/system/builld.prop , line ro.telephony.....) to 0 instead of 7 sets the network as WCDMA prefered (it even says so in the file just above the line you edit).
When dialing *#*#4636#*#*, I see GSM auto (PRL) instead of WCDMA prefered even after reboot.
It seems that the system is not reading that part of the build.prop file or its being over ridden by something else, how can I troubleshoot?
It stays on GSM auto (PRL) even if I change it in the dialer, exit and then type the code back into the dialer.

Have you tried relishing from scratch? & start from cm9 0.1.0 2d not 0.2.0 . I say that because when I first tried cm9 I started from cm9 0.2.0 and I had lots of problems and battery drains fast but then I clean everything off and redone it from cm9 0.1.0 2d note everything is working like it should even better . Hope you getting going...

If I remember what was said in the cm9 thread you have to edit build.prop from the zip, and then flash, not edit after flash or it doesn't work.

Sounds like the other guys have you helped with the FC portion, but nobody has addressed the first complaint. You're currently showing as having 5 posts to me when I look at your profile, so it's not alleged you're under 10 posts, you are under 10 posts. The word "allegedly" implies you disagree with that post count and if so, I'd suggest contacting an admin to have it looked into. I don't spend too much time on XDA so unfortunately I don't know who (specifically) to suggest you contact.
Hope you get it all sorted out! Cheers!

post count
ya the to little post count thing is semi wack. i understand why its there, but i deff still feel you pain. I have been a avid reader of most everything mopho related since about October, but am not much of a poster until not i guess

voicemail
I have ics on my mopho but Im not getting any voicemails. When I get a call and it goes to voicemail i receive a text that says I have received a voicemail and to call a weird number. When I do sometimes it asks me if I have a new phone with voicemail and sometimes its just a busy tone. Is anyone else having this problem?

How do you edit files in the zip? Im trying to replace the APNS file but i cant delete the old one. When I unzip it, replace the file, then rezip it, the file fails to flash. Any suggestions?

cm9 ics beta 2 memory bug
I just flashed my epic to cm9 beta 2 and its been workin fine all day and now I'm getting error messages about it being "low on memory". Is there a fix for this??

Why would you ask that in a Photon forum?

[SOLVED] Froyo Freezes On Every Boot

Thread has moved to this location: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950383
huge problems...
seconds after booting froyo it freezes on the home screen. this has always been an issue for my with froyo and has never ever happened with gingerbread.
This is a top that started seconds after showing the home screen, however I can't seem to copy and paste it.
This has always happened to me when using froyo, never on gingerbread. However I want to be able to use the 'functionality' of froyo as most things i would like to use are not present in gingerbread.
Managed to pull all the logs possible. See attachment, this was all in /Data/System/Dropbox/
Otherwise i cant run any commands after it freezes up.
From what I can tell there are some interesting results from the processes in the .gz log file
relpath should be written like this: rel_path
p.s you can rename the title of the thread by clicking "go advanced" after you click edit
Which Froyo freezes on homescreen? XDAndroid or Froyo X?
I've never been able to run XDAndroid properly, it ALWAYS get stuck on the homescreen and you must restart over and over and over....
Froyo X runs awesome, with the latest kernel is very stable and run pretty smooth

FRX04 should work great on any phone supported, assuming you follow the directions correctly...
maybe hw3d stuck your device like overclocking CPU,try to delete hw3d=1
doing exactly the same thing with froyo X red works perfectly
I had this issue since XDAndroid FRX03. And today finally found a solution.
Since FRX03 something is broken with GSM+3G. When booting with force_cmda=1 (resulting no network) or in airplane mode android works fine.
Enabling "Use only 2G" in android kinda work, but this option wont stick (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711753 ).
Best solution is to disable 3G in WinMo.
You can read here how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319208
Now I have FRX05 with old data.img from FRX02 working fine
I'vetried to select 2G only and the setting never sticks here either. reading that thread implies that the fix was already committed tho. Did I misunderstand, and he committed to some other repo than XDA is using?
I think this might not have been commited to XDAndroid, but only to "Super FroYo 2.2". However when I disabled 3G in WinMo, "Use only 2G" is grayed out in Android.
set aeroplane mode in winmo. Went into froyo and set aeroplane mode there also, restarted without the freezing issue disabled aeroplane mode and it hasn't froze since. 5 restarts...
i'm finding this post interesting as I dont have service (except wifi) and have been unable to get anything other than a frozen android device (cant call it a phone wthout service!) mine is a rhod500.
Guess I'm try to get it into airplane mode and see if I can regain control of my machine (kinda wish i had not deleted the old data.img now during my 'debugging')

You were right, it wasn't committed to XDAndroid. In fact there were a lot of fixes on the original repo that were never committed to XDAndroid. I've set up a clone and merged them all in here:
http://gitorious.org/~hyc/xdandroid/hycs-hardware_xdandroid-ril/commits/androidhtc1
I also fixed several bugs that weren't fixed in either of the previous source trees as well (mostly memory leaks). So far it's working well on my phone, but it will be a few hours before I know if the SoD problems are gone. I've also attached the binary here if anyone else wants to try it out.
Please continue the discussion in the new thread

8 hours later with 3G enabled, no SoDs. Looking good.

OK, since you mentioned it. Code now does netloc parsing. But since I don't have a CDMA phone, I have no idea if it actually works... If you have a CDMA phone and are willing to test this library, please grab a copy of "logcat -b radio" starting from as early as possible in the boot, to a couple minutes after boot finishes, and paste it up somewhere I can see it. Thanks.

[Q] Galaxy note and Straight talk in NY - Modem issues or really bad Service issue?!

Hey guys, i have straight talk with all apn settings on and 4g working however, this has to be the most difficult time I have EVER had with a phone. The service constantly goes in and out even with all bars present at times. These are the problems i have:
1. When wcdma and 4g is enabled, calls to others take long to start and state "conditional call forwarding active". Sometimes I cannot answer calls because it scrambles and makes crazy sounds.
2. When gsm is enabled with edge, everything seems to work fine with no issues. "Conditional call forwarding active" never appears
I have tried the following modems and none seem to fix the issues in terms of full 4g service and a working phone
Kid test modem - Blaze modem (tmobile)
UCLF6 alone and embedded in the UCLF6BS rom
Ucle2 modem
Uclf5 modem
Goldie b5 rom
None of these radios/modems seem to fix the issues, if they do, sometimes its temporary. There are no outages in my area, is Straight talk service really bad, or is it the phone??? I just dont get it.. Am I flashing wrong? I have been flashing with TWRP and have not used CMW since. I flash the modem then clear cache and dalvik. Am I missing something?? Please help, thanks so much
Im running Blackstar 8 no added on modem radio or nothing the problem your having is in the apn settings your using go in change proxy to not set .remove port #.and add authentication pap or chap keep your
mms proxy the same let me know how you make out
Agreed .....
APN issues are "very " likely the cause of your issues ...g
Hey guys, thanks so much for the response. So far I am still getting the "Conditional call forwarding active" popup right when the call starts. I will be able to give it a test run in Manhattan to see if I get the issues I had before. Thanks so much guys, will keep you updated

Hey guys, still no luck.
I have little to no problems when using 2g and on gsm mode, but when on full 4g, I have issues, internet cuts out and calls act up when traveling. Calls take long to start, etc.
Could it be a bad flash when the phone was first rooted? I just dont understand why I seem to be the only person with this problem. =(

When you say wipe everything, does this mean data, cache, dalvik, factory reset, system and even the internal sd card (emmc) where my music and files is stored?
Also, does it matter where I flash my rom from, I have been flashing it from the emmc rather than my sd card, is that a bad thing??
Just to set a bench, move everything from internal to external sd, then wipe internal, then wipe everything aside from external..then install rom from sd

[Q] Can't use anything but wifi, please help!

I was playing with the *#*#4636#*#* menu in CMX and changed my band to Australia. I then lost all connectivity but wifi. I figured I'd just nandroid back to my fully functioning CMX - I was wrong. After restoring the nandroid, the phone still won't connect to anything but wifi.
I then saw this post and flashed meanbean to use the Sense dialer.
None of the instructions worked! When I try to ##786# reset all my data, the phone will do its thing and then boot back up into meanbean and ask me sign in to my accounts.
The DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1 doesn't exist in my build.prop as seen in this post so I can't use the simple method. :crying:
Any help is greatly appreciated. I only have wifi while I'm at work, so in 5 hours I'll be screwed.
EDIT: Almost fixed it! I nandroided back to CMX and tinkered with some more advanced settings. I figured I can't hurt anything more than I have. It's now connecting to the network and 3G, but says it needs activated. Finally, progress!

Thanks guys, I did get it fixed. Once I got some sort of connection reestablished I needed to activate the phone. I called Sprint customer service from my work phone and they refreshed all my data/connections. That allowed me to connect to the network, but not use it (if that makes any sense). I then downloaded the deodexed stock rooted JB ROM from here. After flashing that and booting into it, it said "hands free activation" and then starting updating the PRL before asking me to set up my accounts.
Hopefully my story helps anyone who gets caught up in this issue.
One more thing, upon reinstalling my cmx nandroid, I checked the build.prop file and it had the DEVICE_PROVISIONED=1
I changed it and that's how I got the phone to reconnect to the network (still no use of the signal though at that moment). That's when I flashed to the stock rooted ROM and everything was fine from there.

[Q&A] [ROM] BarRin ZV6 - Questions and General

Sorry guys, thought we had one of these already.
Just curious about the V_2.3.1? Mostly the reception, but....
Is the Reception any better - mainly for those that have lousy reception to start with.
Are you having any issues?
I haven't heard anything yet so let me know :good:
I have decent reception at my house but I think the beta added a bar to it (from 3 to 4). Definitely better at my son's school. I was only getting 3g there but now get LTE. The big test will be at work but I'm on vacation and don't go back until next week.
I was so amazed that I actually noticed a better internet connection I never looked at my signal bars there is an extra bar or two in my house, which I swear I only had one if that all the time one thing is that I'm not sure if it is the ROM or me but shutdownani is really choppy, every since 2.2 but I try modules sometimes that make my phone unstable like xprivacy& cool tool which I immediately remove but deff noticed improved signals, like I actually see the difference

Yes, I already did that edit. 4 me in a specific area the 4G is slower than the 3G. I wanted to try different apns. But those APN would not connect for Sprint at all
What is the intended effect of that file? Sprint has its own APN on a profile update
Works Well for me, definitely see improvement with Switching from 3g to LTE. I also find an LTE signal much quicker. I work in NYC, before the 2.3.1 update I would struggle to get an LTE signal once I left Penn station, now As soon as I walk out it grabs a signal. engine95 you are the Man Bro.

I think the apn.config has bad settings for Sprint OTA, I've edited going to test, should be able to activate phone with the edits.

The original, and the beta do the update profile/prl as they should. And "Activate device" is the telltale.
But, you can't use the beta on a fresh install. Meaning on a full ROM. It'll only work as an update.
Remind me again what issue you're trying to fix and I'll see if I can help.
Edit: In V3, it has a new zipalign binary that does what you want.
Did some testing, updating profile/prl works because it uses apn settings from activation, but if you do ##72786# which erases everything then reboots and does an activation using apn.conf.xml to connect to ota. But the setting don't work for ota. Crashes phone app and then only way to fix by wiping and doing clean install.

That would be right because it has to go through the setup all over again. Just like a clean, full rom install. And it can't find the apn it needs.
Yes, all that file is, is a hack. Not a fix.
Well I'm going to keep working on trying to make the hack safe,

Mine are but the timing is about 10 sec between blinks.
I guess check your settings, and maybe wipe cache and dalvic?
I just realized I don't have the native Wi-Fi calling app. Can I ##72786# from v 3.01 and get it to download or is that only on factory ROM?

I have the same issue. Can't send or receive MMS. Everything else is working great!
end button not working
I love this rom Wilson made! It is super fast and works great. I am having just 1 problem with the ROM. When I end a call the call hangs and doesn't hang up. I can still hear the call in the background but all my buttons grey out. Is there a fix to this? Also I noticed I'm not receiving some calls. I do receive some calla but not all. Anyone knows the fix?
Data not working
Interestingly enough, mobile data worked for me all day yesterday, but stopped working sometime overnight.
Flipping airplane mode doesn't fix it, but changing the preferred network type to CDMA w/o EVDO, and then back to CDMA+LTE/EVDO brings it back, (the same type of fix for previous AOSP ROMs' SMS issues.)
Has no one had a problem with data connection? I flashed 5.1 and it worked great for awhile. then I started getting the exclamation mark next to my data signal and my Pandora would not stream anymore but would work over wifi. Sometimes messing with airplane more and re-saving the APNs worked but most of the time it didn't.
I flashed 5.1.1 and it worked at first. then it started doing the same thing. Something strange I noticed is that i did still have a data connection. I could perform speed tests and connect to my multimedia server, but loading websites took forever/didn't work and Pandora loads the artwork, song title and artist etc. but never plays. When I tried to input APN settings manually, after saving them the entry would just disappear from the list. Even modifying one of the pre-existing APN options and saving it would make it disappear.
I checked that the phone isn't in battery saver mode. I flashed back to my old rom but would really like to figure out what's wrong since i'd really like Lollipop on my phone.
Edit: Changing my APN type(like the above post suggests) also didn't work.

Same here. Are you on Verizon or something else? Just curious because this issue seems pretty isolated. The reason i ask is because I'm on straight talk.
I have an annoying encryption issue. Before this ROM, my phone was encrypted. I booted into TWRP and did a full wipe/factory reset and installed this ROM. Now I want to re-encrypt my phone and when I go to do it, it says it is already encrypted. I know my phone is not encrypted because I can boot it without a password or have TWRP boot without a password. I'm not sure what to do at this point.
Thanks
This is the 5.1 rom for the i605 note 2
I have been running this rom all weekend and got to say loving it.:victory:
This Rom is running at 100% on my i605.
Any chance App circle bar will be add?
Would like to see it added but not that big of a deal.
Are there any Xposed for this rom?
Still can't believe i'm running 5.1.1 on my i605 and its this good.
THANKS and GREAT JOB GUYS:good::good::
Are there any Xposed ?
I've stayed up to date for the last couple months of releases. I love the ROM and everything seems to work great. I've only encountered two tall deal breakers across all updates. I really really want this ROM to just work.
- Am I only one getting the random "Camera cannot connect" issue?
I say random because I can't identify any particular event causing camera to fail.
- Any fix for Cellular Data randomly quitting?
I know others are having same issue. Has anyone found any fix?
Full wipe and fresh install has brought no success.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Free mobile app
Didn't realize the separate Q&A section. AOSP keyboard keeps FC and I can't setup the phone without a keyboard. Any ideas? Thanks

Your not the only one having the camera problems. And the data fix is already in the thread (Settings, mobile network, Access point names) try remove all fakes and if your running AT&T or T-Mobile turn off LTE so H,H+ will stay locked in.
Please give thumbs up if this helped anyone

I would make a backup to my External Sd Card and (Swipe to factory Reset) three times if you dirty flashed the first time.
If not in advanced wipe check ( Dalvik cache, Cache,System,Data, and Internal Storage ) all three times.
Remember your backup is always on your Ex-Sd card
