[SOLVED] Froyo Freezes On Every Boot - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

Thread has moved to this location: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950383

huge problems...
seconds after booting froyo it freezes on the home screen. this has always been an issue for my with froyo and has never ever happened with gingerbread.
This is a top that started seconds after showing the home screen, however I can't seem to copy and paste it.
This has always happened to me when using froyo, never on gingerbread. However I want to be able to use the 'functionality' of froyo as most things i would like to use are not present in gingerbread.
Managed to pull all the logs possible. See attachment, this was all in /Data/System/Dropbox/
Otherwise i cant run any commands after it freezes up.
From what I can tell there are some interesting results from the processes in the .gz log file

relpath should be written like this: rel_path

Which Froyo freezes on homescreen? XDAndroid or Froyo X?
I've never been able to run XDAndroid properly, it ALWAYS get stuck on the homescreen and you must restart over and over and over....
Froyo X runs awesome, with the latest kernel is very stable and run pretty smooth

FRX04 should work great on any phone supported, assuming you follow the directions correctly...

maybe hw3d stuck your device like overclocking CPU,try to delete hw3d=1

doing exactly the same thing with froyo X red works perfectly

I had this issue since XDAndroid FRX03. And today finally found a solution.
Since FRX03 something is broken with GSM+3G. When booting with force_cmda=1 (resulting no network) or in airplane mode android works fine.
Enabling "Use only 2G" in android kinda work, but this option wont stick (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711753 ).
Best solution is to disable 3G in WinMo.
You can read here how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319208
Now I have FRX05 with old data.img from FRX02 working fine

I'vetried to select 2G only and the setting never sticks here either. reading that thread implies that the fix was already committed tho. Did I misunderstand, and he committed to some other repo than XDA is using?

I think this might not have been commited to XDAndroid, but only to "Super FroYo 2.2". However when I disabled 3G in WinMo, "Use only 2G" is grayed out in Android.

set aeroplane mode in winmo. Went into froyo and set aeroplane mode there also, restarted without the freezing issue disabled aeroplane mode and it hasn't froze since. 5 restarts...

i'm finding this post interesting as I dont have service (except wifi) and have been unable to get anything other than a frozen android device (cant call it a phone wthout service!) mine is a rhod500.
Guess I'm try to get it into airplane mode and see if I can regain control of my machine (kinda wish i had not deleted the old data.img now during my 'debugging')

You were right, it wasn't committed to XDAndroid. In fact there were a lot of fixes on the original repo that were never committed to XDAndroid. I've set up a clone and merged them all in here:
http://gitorious.org/~hyc/xdandroid/hycs-hardware_xdandroid-ril/commits/androidhtc1
I also fixed several bugs that weren't fixed in either of the previous source trees as well (mostly memory leaks). So far it's working well on my phone, but it will be a few hours before I know if the SoD problems are gone. I've also attached the binary here if anyone else wants to try it out.
Please continue the discussion in the new thread

8 hours later with 3G enabled, no SoDs. Looking good.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the CDMA roaming indicators, no idea how those values are computed.

OK, since you mentioned it. Code now does netloc parsing. But since I don't have a CDMA phone, I have no idea if it actually works... If you have a CDMA phone and are willing to test this library, please grab a copy of "logcat -b radio" starting from as early as possible in the boot, to a couple minutes after boot finishes, and paste it up somewhere I can see it. Thanks.

Radio: No Signal

My installation has been working fine and I even managed to increase battery life by installing "Juice".
Suddenly, about 3 days ago I noticed the phone was saying no signal. I was clearly getting data, as my apps worked and I was getting eMail alerts and downloads, but no calls.
I tried restarts, but to no avail. I am using Rod_100 UK as I am on Vodafone UK... I assume it is correct, certainly worked for the past month.
I have had to revert back to Windows Mobile.
My immediate thoughts are it is Juice that is causing it. I have just logged back in to my XDAndroid to write this and Juice did not load, and guess what, the signal has come back.......
Just in case is there anything else to look for?
Never heard of "Juice". I have heard of JuiceDefender however...
If you don't have the issue on a clean install, I'd say that app (or one of many I'm assuming you have installed) is the culprit. Rename your data.img and boot, see what happens.
Yes, it is JuiceDefender, apologies for the abbreviation.
I un-installed it and I have network again, but I guess I will loose battery longevity again, not that it made a huge difference.
I'll keep my eye on it....
Still no improvement
No, still not working. I get no signal, when I am in eye shot of a mast and on WM I get a full signal. I am booting in to WM to a deluge of SMS messages that I had not received, mostly vMail notifications, to which the messages are from calls that I did not receive.
The radio is not as strong and keeps dying on me requiring a reboot
I dont know what exactly but some program is giving android problems

Make sure you're up to date.*
Delete (move, rename) data.img.
Format SD. Full format. HP tool.

Well I took it literally, as I have no idea, sorry. I'll put it back... Anyway, I have another problem now anyway. Having made the change it will not boot. I checked the permissions and it is not "Executable" any more. I have tried changing it but it will not let me. How do I fix this - I am accessing via my laptop which is Ubuntu (Linux).
Can you help, please?

What is not "Executable" any more... haret.exe?
The startup file
Sorry, ignore me.
After the change, I double clicked the Android shortcut to launch Android, but it would not start, so I assumed the file had to be executable (as it was the only item I had changed)... I had forgotten to disconnect my TP2 from my laptop!
I've done so now and it has launched. A stupid user errorhttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I'll keep you posted on any changes.
Ha, fair enough. Enjoy.
Solved. Keep loosing Radio
OK. I tried all the above. Delete data.img, and check the startup script/cmd.... none worked. At some point I would loose the network connection.
As it started within days of loading JuiceDefender and its components and from the description of how it works - controls the running apps including radio and data transfer, I always suspected it to be the root cause. After the other checks failed I tried removing all Juice Defender apps and since then c30hrs I have not experienced any loss of communication.
Thanks everyone for your help, and I hope this will be of use to anyone else suffering from loosing radio/ signal.

It has been a number of days now and I have not experienced the same issue, so my conclusion is that it is the JuiceDefender that caused the problem.
The down side now is that I get 7am to 4pm battery life as opposed to 7am to 7pm.... But atleast I can receive and make calls!
A note: The signal strength on the project image is not as strong as the WM6.5, but I am sure that is a known issue.

Hrm, didn't realize that app would help out that much. But, it makes sense if it's turning off all your radios lol.
Anyhoo, have you seen the kernel I posted from WisTilt2? It has full panel collapse, and battery life is astounding with it.
Code has yet to be committed, as he still has some work to do for the AUO panels (select RHOD100's basically) - so unless you have one of those you can reap the benefits of his new code .
(bzo got nearly 65 hrs with the radio on, sync off - 100% sleep.)
Looks interesting, but where do I download the latest version... I don't plan reading all the threads! And IF I installed would I loose all my settings and apps?
Update
It has been a while since I did all this tinkering, during which time there has been an update.
What I find I get is sometimes (c every couple of days) the meter says I have signal but nothing connects with a message "no network". Also, but far more frequent, as with today where it has occurred 3 times, I dial a number and nothing happens. It says ringing but there is no ring tone and it never seems to connect. I then shut the call down either by using the hang up button or the soft hang up key. The screen then changes to "Hanging Up" but again sits there indefinitely. The only solution id to do a restart.....
Any ideas?
PS: any news on when the bluetooth and camera will be working...?
I have found that any app that acts as a task killer of any sort (juice defender must in someway stop apps to save battery) can also kill your connection. I found this out while using xdandroid and it became immiediately clear when I stopped using the task killer my bars and data proved to be more consistant! Hope that helps.

[Q] Aria Wifi

I have the HTC Aria with CM 6.1.1 installed on it.
Since the time I installed CM 6, I haven't been able to connect to the school network. I could do so in Liberated Aria (FRxx) and the stock 2.1 ATT Rom but not in CM6.
The thing is, my school has a login page that allows a student to login using his id and password and whenever someone tries to navigate to a page (google for example), the server would redirect to this login page first. Only after a user logs in, he can proceed to surf the web.
It works perfectly fien on my laptop and used to work in the Sense ROMs but for some reason, it doesn't work in CM6. 3G data works perfectly though.
I tried searching the forum but couldn't find a similar question. Someone asked this question in the Cyanogen Mod forum too but it was left unanswered.

If I'm remembering correctly it could be our wifi driver may not be compatible with their router or something along g those lines. Somebody can correct me on that though. Also, at the public library where I live every once in a while I wont be able to use the wifi. It will say connected but no internet. But if I go back the next day it works fine (reset their routers maybe?)

Thank you for that!
Is there a workaround for this? I hate to use the 3G data connection (which is paid, thank you ATT ) instead of the free WiFi that I could use instead. Also, at the place where I work on campus, I get no 3G. All I get there is EDGE.
I had this problem happen to me and couldn't find a solution for it. The only solution I found was to go to Liberated (I use the HK kernel) instead of CM6.
i would try using CM7 instead of CM6.
the CM7 nightlies were slow. even CM6 is pretty slow unless the aria is overclocked and doing this ruins the battery life. But i still prefer to use cm6 (for now atleast). Is there a way this issue can be rectified in cm6?
Anyone?? Hello!! People say that the android development community is very active but I've always found it otherwise. People like Cyanogen and attn release great mods but not always help people out with their problems. Isn't that unfair?

I find this to be the complete opposite of what I have experienced. I just got my phone Feb. 23rd and have rooted it flashed 3 different rom's and a couple nightlys. Like stated before, just get on the irc chat and start asking, but I do guarantee if you go with this kind of attitude you won't get far Good luck and I hope your problems get resolved.
did you consider asking IT at your college or checking their website for information on wifi?

thanks. Tried it but did not work.
I realized that since I started using the CM6.1.1 ROM, my phone's IP address doesn't show up at my home wireless router's logs. All I can see is my MAC id.
Could that be the problem?
You might want to give this new CM7 based ROM a try. It's based on CM7 nightly 21 and it fixes the known issues with hidden SSID's and reconnecting to "remembered" networks. I'm running it now and it's excellent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996331
Edit: I expect that the changes in this ROM will be merged into the regular CM7 nightly builds in the very near future.

I dunno why it's been deleted, but in any case, the problems that ROM was designed to fix have been addressed a long time ago and current versions of CM7 shouldn't have those issues.
I'm working with CM7 no problem with hidden wireless networks, but it do seems that the phone get less reception on the wireless network. even if I'm close to routers I get only 2-3 bars on the wireless icon. Don't know why is that.

[Q] US Cell TP2

I'm currently using a USCellular (CDMA) Touch Pro2, on a GSM network (Viaero wireless, in Nebraska). In WinMo, everything works fine, and when I boot into Android everything that should work does... except... Anytime it sleeps, it drops it's connection to the GSM network and doesn't connect till I wake it. That means any calls, texts, emails, etc that come while it's asleep don't show till I manually wake it (or in the case of calls, they go to voicemail). I've tried searching, to no avail, so I was wondering if any of you smarties can help. My startup.txt is as follows
set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 force_cdma=0 board-htcrhodium.is_cdma=0 pm.sleep_mode=2 physkeyboard=rhod400"
boot
the pm.sleep_mode=2 was based on advice I found by searching and tried, but no dice, still dropping... it was set to 1 before...
Any ideas? I would LOVE to run Android as my daily, and AFAIK this is the only thing stopping me...
I don't know it will help, but on any recent kernel I believe you should use sleep mode of 1.
board-htcrhodium.is_cdma should be 1. F

I had it that way, but when I did it wouldn't see the GSM at all, it would try CDMA, and then fail and drop into airplane mode... That's when I tried setting it to 0, and was able to get a consistant signal, except for the sleep issue...
Thank you for your reply!

As I had said, it was at sleep mode of one, and I got the dropping. Based on my searching there was a suggesting of using 2, or even 3 on that, so I did, still didn't help...
Thanks though!
Seems like a bug in the newer kernels. I have a RHOD400 and do not have this problem at all, but it seems a lot of people are using their CDMA devices on GSM networks.
I've had a lot of reports from folks that are doing that, so try an older kernel. You'll lose camera support, but in theory this bug will not be present. I'd like you to help narrow it down if you can, to which kernel it starts in.

[krn.module] Disable wifi power saving for Dell Streak 360 stock ROM

This wifi driver kernel module "disables" the wifi maximum power management during screen off. The level 2 driver adds it further, changing power saving to off, while on battery power. Hopefully it could increase the wireless strength -- I am testing it.
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damage caused by the updated kernel module, neither its compatibility. I don't think it would work for any other ROM other than stock 360. Also, make sure you had the bcm4325 wifi instead of bcm4329.
Use at your own risk, always do nandroid backups
To update, either use ClockworkMod or StreakMod recovery, and use any of the attached zip file as update.zip.
Alternatively, you can just replace the /system/lib/modules/dhd.ko and reboot the system.
PS: Thanks to Myshkinbob's hint on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752856

Wifi streaming is now working flawlessly with screen turned off. The no power saving configuration on battery doesn't seems to improve the signal much. But it doesn't seems to have any significant increase on battery usage, so I suggest to just go for the level 2 version.
Gonna ask the obvious before someone else does
setting wifi sleep to 'never' doesnt accomplish what you want? What happens exactly if you set it to 'never' without loading your module? Is it as described in your link where it goes down to ~100kb/s link speed?
Wonder if porting to another kernel is as simple as using it's matching config.gz like with tun.ko or cifs.ko(?)

No it doesn't -- it is unrelated, actually. The bandwidh limit imposed by maximum power saving is much less than the required bandwidh for streaming FLAC audio. The result is intermittent audio playback with repeating 2-5 seconds silence and audio pattern.
Not to mention that I occasionally experiences IM+ Google Talk, YM, and Jabber session disconnects due to the same problem

I believe an app could also prevent wifi to enter max power saving mode on screen off. But to make sure it does, then you have to try streaming some lossless audio with it
I'd be willing to help, but have decided to forego gingerbread for now. One too many random reboots. However I'll help you out as much as I can for the good of the masses.

As you're not currently running 2.3 then I assume you're not in hurry for this. We can schedule it later then
Anyway I don't think many people needs this tweak, so let's just take it easy. Just post back when you're ready with a Streak running 2.3.
Sorry but I should've been able to do this by myself if I had 2.3 installed on my phone. But as stated, I don't have any plan for that

I'm back on the gingerbread bandwagon, however I am having wifi issues and I wonder if your fix can help. Randomly, but quite regularly, the wifi still shows as connected, however there is no data throughput. I'm wondering if it possible that the wifi "power down" is going to low and then not powering back up when the screen comes back on. Would your fix help with that at all? If so, I'm ready to help with it for gingerbread.
can u make one for 354? thanks

i tried.but it disabled my wifi
Raz-or,have you tried putting the 360 update.pkg on your root sd card, then run your phone through the qdl tool......after that....start your phone up in stock recovery, and it will install the 360 you put on sd,then upon reboot go back into stock recovery and do a factory reset......after your up and running, wifi should be working now.after doing this....you could put streakmod recovery on....so you can go back in and do a nandroid backup, and be able to do other things it can do

cm9 ICS beta android 4.0 bugs

Hi all,
I've posted a couple times before on getting the wifi working on stock Moto android for the photon, I cannot reply on the dev forum discussing this cm9 rom as I'm allegedly less than 10 posts or something.
Each time I boot up with aeroplane mode off (so all network stuff is on) com.android.phone crashes and I just have to press ok, it happens again each time I enable then disable aeroplane mode or type *#*#4636#*#* and turn off then on the radio.
I cannot get any mobile connection, I think the radio cannot turn on as the GSM service is "radio off".
Any ideas on how I should troubleshoot, I think loads of people have the issue but the recommended fix does not work for me (and others).
The recommended fix is to edit /system/build.prop and change ro.telephony.default_network from 7 to 0 and this does not work for me (editing it with root explorer).
I understand that it changes the network type to WCDMA prefered (I think that is another name for UMTS). One can also change the prefered network using the above code in the dialer and scrolling down to just above the button to turn the radio off/on.
Any ideas?
Update:
Sorry for taking ages to reply, seems like most people using the mopho are on Sprint using CDMA and so don't have issues, I'm in Australia on Vodafone so use GSM(2G)/WCDMA (3G).
I got this working ages ago and after a few version changes, I'm now on beta 0.4.5.1 as camera would freeze after taking a picture (including freezing the camera system so face unlock stopped) on beta 0.4.4.
Yes, reflashing rom after editing ro.telephony.default_network to 0 does fix it, but one does not have to reflash, just reboot into recovery and do factory reset other basics may work, though I tried cache, dalvik cache and permission fix, that did not seem to fix it for me. I think factory reset in recovery formats: data, cache, ext-sd/android....something file and one or 2 other things.
I think formatting data gets rid of all your settings, maybe one does not need the data reformat, I wonder if the android file on the SD card has certain settings with the RIL.
When you are having the GSM issue and no signal, under the more menu which is under wireless & networks, there is no "mobile networks" option and when dialling *#*#info#*#* (4636) under phone information, I think GSM service says "radio off".
Yes, after I did make a post, it did say 4 posts and then I actually knew I how many I had done, I was unsure as I had posted quite a lot about the early wifi issues when Spring crippled the original rom but I was also posting in the Moto owners forum and could not remember how many posts I had done in this forum.
Any way, will update if I think there is anything else useful to add/ask. I just love the openness of Android, especially compared to the iPhone, its just so great that someone may download the source and port it to a device such as what Joker and the others helping him out did, so now we have ICS on a very powerful and capable device. As much as Jobs may have had all sorts of issues with similarities between Android and iOS, we have more use from it and "like" google better from it (without spending crap loads of money on one of like only 2 devices available, we just have soooo much choice;-)
Fisher
Ok, so I understand that editing the file line above (/system/builld.prop , line ro.telephony.....) to 0 instead of 7 sets the network as WCDMA prefered (it even says so in the file just above the line you edit).
When dialing *#*#4636#*#*, I see GSM auto (PRL) instead of WCDMA prefered even after reboot.
It seems that the system is not reading that part of the build.prop file or its being over ridden by something else, how can I troubleshoot?
It stays on GSM auto (PRL) even if I change it in the dialer, exit and then type the code back into the dialer.
Have you tried relishing from scratch? & start from cm9 0.1.0 2d not 0.2.0 . I say that because when I first tried cm9 I started from cm9 0.2.0 and I had lots of problems and battery drains fast but then I clean everything off and redone it from cm9 0.1.0 2d note everything is working like it should even better . Hope you getting going...

If I remember what was said in the cm9 thread you have to edit build.prop from the zip, and then flash, not edit after flash or it doesn't work.

Sounds like the other guys have you helped with the FC portion, but nobody has addressed the first complaint. You're currently showing as having 5 posts to me when I look at your profile, so it's not alleged you're under 10 posts, you are under 10 posts. The word "allegedly" implies you disagree with that post count and if so, I'd suggest contacting an admin to have it looked into. I don't spend too much time on XDA so unfortunately I don't know who (specifically) to suggest you contact.
Hope you get it all sorted out! Cheers!
post count
ya the to little post count thing is semi wack. i understand why its there, but i deff still feel you pain. I have been a avid reader of most everything mopho related since about October, but am not much of a poster until not i guess
voicemail
I have ics on my mopho but Im not getting any voicemails. When I get a call and it goes to voicemail i receive a text that says I have received a voicemail and to call a weird number. When I do sometimes it asks me if I have a new phone with voicemail and sometimes its just a busy tone. Is anyone else having this problem?

How do you edit files in the zip? Im trying to replace the APNS file but i cant delete the old one. When I unzip it, replace the file, then rezip it, the file fails to flash. Any suggestions?

Why would you ask that in a Photon forum?
