ATTENTION: AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II i777 Ported Development Forum - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

This is the AT&T Galaxy S II i777 Ported Development Section. This is where you will find either Hellraised, Flashohilic'd or otherwise ported kernels and firmware/ROMs. If your thread suddenly becomes deleted or locked, thats because this is NOT the General or Q&A section. Again, this section is only for AT&T Galaxy S II kernels/firmware/roms.
Before anything, make sure you real the XDA RULES. These rules go for every forum on XDA and will be enforced. Pay close attention to Rule #1... read it, then read it again. Also be sure to check for other Forum Specific Rules that will be enforced be the Moderators here. We have seen an influx of new users posting and asking how to do this or how to fix this without doing any research for themselves. This has grown very tiresome and is very taxing on the Devs as they strive to not only maintain their current work, but to add updates for all of us. We dont want to tire out the Devs and make them disgruntled, so we all can do our part and search for our answers.
Have a question? Most questions have already been answered here in the FAQ topic. Try looking here before you decide to post a new thread to ask a question. Chances are, you're not the first to have a questions so its more than likely been answered and discussed.

New Member Post Restriction

Hello and greetings, this is my first post.
I've been reading these forums for quite a while and I own a Note II. I have followed a discussion in the OAD forums, including flashing a new rom, and have run the rom for a month now. I am simply having some trouble with a couple of aspects that haven't been addressed in the thread. I wish to solicit advice from the community.
Unfortunately, I cannot post because of the following rule:
-
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.
-
As I am reading this, particularly the 'fewer than 10 posts' part, I am thinking something like, 'but I am a computer expert'. And then I reach this part, which addresses what I feel I am directly:
While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
It's an interesting thing to ask when most of the discussions in the forum I cannot post to directly involve 'using or installing ROMs'. It definitely allows me to avoid posting questions about my particular interest. Instead I need to write ten posts, and this is the first. I don't know.. is this rule really necessary? Should I make nine crap posts so I can get around to talking about what I want to talk about, and joining what is already a burgeoning discussion? Should I just.. leave? Or should I chill out?
Maybe post your questions in the Q&A sections? Just a thought....

I would find the forum for your rom and ask the question there. You can ask a question in a thread already created just not create a new one.

Yeah I am restricted to many things due to not posting and it makes me not able to make post to help even though I've been a member for a little while now
damned, i am restricted toooooo

i completely agree, this makes it so a large percentage of people who have questions cannot ask the people they want, cannot give bug reports and causes all sorts of problems. i can download a rom but cannot contribute at all to any issues, so i guess i can just make random posts in random topics( like the trolls you seek to weed out would no doubt do) but i havent biothered. its a stupid rule and the devs should be the most angry about this but i doubt they are aware that we have to go to other non devs to sort out the issues.
@coma73 Random posts and junk posts will be deleted, setting you back to your starting point. The moral of this story, follow the rules and all will be well; create junk/spam/random posts and be forever stuck with post limitations. We do check. Kinda funny, because that's how I stumbled into this thread.
In any event, we have the General and Q&A sections of the forums for you to read, learn, and ask any questions you may have. Most ROM's will have a Q&A thread already available, usually posted in (wait for it....) the Q&A forum, these are readily available for you to post your questions, comments, bug reports and feedback. If you're still stuck, there are many members here that would be willing to post on your behalf in a particular development thread.
We encourage members to utilize the resources at hand and the rules are pretty clear about why and the intention behind the post limitations. If you are unable to come up with 10 posts that are not junk/spam/random, you don't belong here any way.
I stumbled across the same issue and it's really annoying. I'm not an inexperienced user in any way, been using custom roms for 2 years and just want to give some constructive feedback to a custom rom I'm using which does NOT have a Q&A thread.

There are a lot of inexperienced users who post pretty easy questions across the boards. It won't take long to get up/past 10 posts if you respond to a few of those. Helpful for them to to benefit from your experience.

In this instance a post in general forums is sufficient.
This has been argued time and time again, fought tooth and nail, and it will not change. It helps far more than you guys realize.
Is it honestly that difficult to come up with ten non spam posts? I mean really, you find a bug and post about it in general forums, there's one.
A question? Q&A forums, there's two...
I had to do it, every developer here had to do it, hell, every member posting in development had to do it. It is not that hard.
So put on your big boy pants, quit complaining, and just post.
The rules still apply, and anything spam or completely useless will be deleted.
On that note, this thread is closed.

Hello!
First off, allow me to welcome both new and existing members to the Forums. These look to be exciting products, and I am really hoping to see a great community spring up here. As we like to do with a new forum, we like to introduce ourselves. Of course, as noted, the moderating team assigned to the forum include:
Team Leader/Senior Moderator @Moscow Desire
Forum Moderators @Siberian Tiger, @stamatis, @chrisd1a1, @Divine_Madcat @zacthespack
Personally, i am an avid tablet user, and am currently using both an HP Touchpad and Nexus 7 (2013), as well as a Samsung S4. Please make no mistake, while we all may not be owners of this specific device, it is our goal to be a strong part of the community, and i hope you will allow us this opportunity. I, like the other moderators, have an open door policy, and i welcome anyone to contact myself (or other staff members) to contact us if you have any concerns or questions about the forums (but please direct device specific questions to the Q&A forum).
With that said, i would like to take a moment to reiterate the overall guidelines of the forum, in the hope to prevent issues down the line...
1. Posting in the Development Forum. Creating new threads in the Dev Forum is restricted to development work; this may include Kernels, Root tools, ROMS, and other device developments. If you have a question about a ROM or the device, please post in the Q&A forum, so that the question may be answered correctly.
2. Arguments and Flaming. This really speaks for itself, but bears saying again. Be respectful, and be a community; work together and make this a place that is welcoming to everyone, new and old. If an argument starts, DO NOT participate in it. You have a "Report Post" button. Use it. Let the Mod's take care of it. You are not moderators, so please don't act like it. You don't make anything better by participating, and you may find yourself in trouble as well.
3. Please take a moment to search before posting; forums for popular devices can get hectic, and it is only made worse by having 5 different threads on the same topic. While mistakes happen, we need everyone's help to make sure that the boards are readable and usable for everyone. Odds are, if you have a problem, you are not the first person to have had the issue; you may very well find the solution already discussed. If a thread covering your topic is already there, please keep the discussion in that thread.
4. We are all here to help the users, and to mainly help continue the development of the devices. This is a Development site, not Facebook or other social networking sites. While some off topic banter is to be expected, please keep off topic conversations in the appropriate area; this is especially true for development threads. Too much OT makes threads hard to use for people with real issues/suggestions/questions

Q&A Bot

I would like to direct this to the Moderators or any other higher ups that need to get involved.
This Q&A Bot thing is rediculous.
It is posting in seemingly every device for every rom. Stating to direct all questions in regard to a rom in Q&A sections in order to keep development from getting clogged up.
All its doing is clogging up Q&A.
I thought the concept was, if it is a question within regards to a specific rom, that's what the thread is for?
If it is a device specific question, then it goes to Q&A?
When you click to view Q&A Bot profile, it comes up invalid. Is this a new system generated thing to organize the threads better?
Not working. To me it is just as bad as having an ad pop up.
Honestly, I find myself wanting to come on here less. I come here in attempt to help others if I can. An attempt to return favors that others have done for me. What is the point of Q&A Bot to create a thread it cannot support or will not respond to?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using XDA Free mobile app
The Q&A bot only comes into action when a new user tries posting in the development section. As you know, new users can't post in development threads. So the Q&A bot makes a new thread in the Q&A section so the new users post can be read.
I can see where xda thinks this is a way of getting newbies heard and keeping development threads clean. But when you boil it all down it actually creates clutter and disarray. Because after all isn't XDA a development site? Therefore all threads here are considered development threads in my opinion.
In my opinion only recognized developers should be able to post in development threads. All development posts should have links to respective Q&A threads. Leaving development threads clean of everything but the dev's posts. This way the dev can post tweaks, bugs and tips that are easily found without going thru 100's of posts to find solutions. The dev can monitor the Q&A thread and answer questions there. When a valid question arises the dev can answer it in the Q&A thread. Then make an update post in the development thread.
What do you think?
If only people with "RD" status can post in the dev section this device and a lot more others would be pretty boring to own. I agree with @captemo those threads are cluttering the place up and are a bit annoying, plus I thought there was a 10 post count rule that prevented new users to post in the dev section? is that rule no longer in place or something or is it being circumvented in some way? I get the point of those threads in order to help out new users get the advice they seek and all but honestly its seems like a lot of users now a days don't bother to read a few pages of a thread let alone use the search function , and want to be spoon fed. Not trying to be a d-bag or any thing like that but it gets a bit out of hand at times seeing the answer they seek is just usually a few pages back from the last one. OK my ranting is over lol....

i agree with some of what all you have said...but with that said.
our Q&A section is already a mess. The only one ive ever seen that wasnt is in the epic 4g touch forum, and thats because they had a member create a noob friendly support thread for all questions and roms. And the members, myself included, made sure questions were posted there and not just making a new thread for questions that have been asked and answered. It also allowed the more experienced members to have a place to help that was easy to find and point noobs in the right direction.
if you guys are interested in starting and supporting such a thread. i would look at the e4gt thread for ideas how to set it up...or u can look at the one i made and support in the galaxy tab 10.1 forum. Here is the Link to mine, as i cant seem to get a mod over there to sticky it.
These threads should give you all a nice idea about how a similar thread here would help, if used and a mod stickies it so it is always seen by new members.
as im soon departing this forum for a new device..i will not start such a thread. But will always stop in to help support it.
Have a great day,
Gil81 ( John )
