[Q] i9100 Screen problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a galaxy s2 recently and the screen fails to register my touches suddenly.
Here the weird part, the screen is able to display everything perfectly.. but half of the screen doesnt register my touches.. left side not working, but right side is working..
so decided to send my phone for warranty and after a month, the distributor said that the LCD Socket is faulty due to the phone is pressed too hard.. they say it needs to replace the whole LCD Screen..
Is it possible to replace the LCD Socket only?

Why would you risk attempting to fix it yourself & voiding your warranty when you can get it fixed for nothing/properly under warranty ?

They are charging me myr700 for replacing the Lcd screen.. how is posible to damage the socket where the Lcd screen is perfectly fine? (no cracks no scratches no dents)
By right they should replace it for me without paying anything right?

Ahhhh. They're charging you. OK. I don't know what the warranty covers in your country or what your rights are with regard to same.
I know in Australia if my screen started to die like that after a month Samsung would be paying to replace the screen/the phone. At worst I'd end up paying postage to send the phone in to them.
It might well be worth your while/cheaper replacing it yourself in that case. Not sure if it's possible to replace just the socket, you may have to replace the whole screen. Plenty of tutorials to show you how to do this online, and you can get the screens from a plenty of places online as well (eBay might be a good start).

Thanks for the suggestion..
I searched internet for the i9100 LCD Socket but no results found.. I guess I have to replace the whole LCD Screen already.. ebay selling them around myr600+ also.. So is it better to DIY or pay a little bit more and letting the professionals to do it?
There are some doubts that I would love to ask you.. I always place the phone inside my jean's pocket and they said the pressure of jean's is high enough to cause damage to the phone's internals. Is that true? The jeans Im wearing is not very tight either..

I guess whether worth saving MYR 100 is worth it or not depends on how technically adept you are, I.E, do you think you can swap the screen out successfully based on having a look at the video tutorials that show you how to do it ? If you're in any doubt, you'd probably want to have it done professionally. I cracked the screen of my Nokia N958GB about two weeks after I got it a few yrs ago, ended up having it done professionally as the saving if I did it myself would have been similar to your situation now (I would have saved maybe $50-$60 AUD). I'm just not dexterous enough to do a job like that perfectly
I keep my SGS2 in my front jeans pocket when I wear them & haven't had a problem, tho I do have a fake leather flip case. I'd be surprised if the pressure from having them in a not tight jeans pocket would be enough to damage the phone, unless you put pressure on the phone while it was in your pocket maybe ?
Sounds like they're trying to weasel their way out of repairing it under warranty to me, but the problem is (which other people have found on here over the past few mths I've been visiting here) trying to prove that they should repair it under warranty which would probably cost you as much/more than the repair is worth to have an 'expert' (someone who works with small electronics) examine your phone & who is prepared to issue a report or similar saying it's definitely a fault with the phone & wasn't caused by you.
Tricky situation you're in man Maybe contact a consumer organisation in your country and ask for advice if they still refuse to repair it under warranty ?
Hope you get it sorted under warranty.

Alright, thanks a lot for the information. I think I better let them repair the phone because if I repair the phone myself, its pretty risky and i might even damage the phone further.
I will try to discuss/talk to the distributor and try to solve this under warranty. tqvm. appreciate that.

No probs Good luck with it. Let us know how you get on.

[Q] To be unscrupulous or not to be unscrupulous

A drunken night resulted in a cracked Streak glass. Just the glass, not the screen. So the phone is completely usable. The crack is about 3 inches long and very slight. It is hardly discernible
Service center folks told me I gotta pay some money(about $90) and they will replace the phone. But, I don't want a new phone and I don't want to pay any money. My phone is in warranty.
I am in a dilemma: I can brick my phone or induce some software defect and give it to them so they will have to replace the phone for free. I am pretty sure they wont be able to figure put that I have done it intentionally. The technicians over here in India are pretty dumb*. But this is unethical. I don't know what to do.
Also, how long can I use the phone in this condition without any further damage?
I request the wisdom of the humble streak users around here.
*I know they are dumb because when I bought my streak, its accelerometer was not working; a hardware defect. When i took it to the service center, the technician did not even try fastboot. They did a factory reset from the Setting Menu, gave me the phone and told me that it is fixed. I was like, it still is not working you dumb ****. Then they replaced the handset.
Pay the $90 or just buy a screen on ebay and fit it yourself voiding the warranty.

Once you send it in, and they see the cracked screen, if they have any sense, they won't replace it and will declare it user abuse, send it back to you... at least that's what would happen on this side of the ocean... if you have ethical issues with doing that then do as InsertNameHere said and buy a new glass/lcd, because it will eventually start to bleed and moisture seep in through the crack
Pay someone from the guys there 10 dollars , and he will brick it for you, then after you get the get the Dell back, pay him another 10 so you will be safe for next time.

Guys, thanks for your inputs!
@cdzo72
They actually told me that they will give me a new phone if I pay the $90 (4500 rupees actually). And I did not know that the screen will start leaking and that moisture will seep in. So before they change their minds and before my screen takes further damage I have decided to get my phone replaced next month .
Thanks to all of you again!

[q] need help fast, lcd looks as if its broken???

I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 from eBay, the seller stated that the LCD screen was "very dark" and not quite working right. When I received the phone it was far more then "very dark", half of the screen looks as if the LCD is leaking out or has been broken? The digitizer is mint and works and the phone its self is in AMAZING shape. NO scratches or chips or anything. It honestly looks brand new. I even tested the battery for usage and its showing up that this battery IS indeed brand new. Like I said it is mint so there is no possible way this phone was dropped. My first guess was a ROM issue, but I just noticed you can see the screen defect without the phone even being turned on. So what I am thinking is water damage. I read all over online about people having problems with there screens going black, this might also be the case. If it is water damage, does anyone know EXACT locations of indicators on the phone? I looked in the battery compartment and found nothing what so ever. I want to sell this thing today, (just received it in the mail) I need the cash so I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction?? I uploaded photos below, the second one is with the phone turned off, the reflection is from my computer. For reference, it is the Samsung Galaxy SII 19100, with Bell Canada. Thanks in advanced!
I'm no expert but does not look like something you can fix yourself I'm afraid.
Send it back I say.

send it back to whoever sold it
you kinda got scammed there, imho
See Im trying to figure out if the LCD was broken by physical damage or if this has happened before to people, because if its a manufacturing issue I can just send it back to Samsung and they will fix it no problem as long as this was caused on their part. If it WAS broken by the ebay seller, I might be better off buying a new lcd and installing it myself. I only paid $200CAD so it would be worth keeping if all thats wrong is the LCD. But like I said I would rather Samsung do it, lol its free.

Scratch that, the LCD is almost $200. Not worth buying and fixing. But does anyone know if this could be classified as a manufacturing issue? I can just send it in if it is?
anybody at all?? I just want to confirm that this could be a manufacturing issue, theres no water damage and the screen is not cracked from a drop any ideas would be awesome. I might just try to send it in to Samsung just to see what happens.

[Q] Worth Fixing or just scrap it? Poll too!

So I found a Samsung GT-i9100T on the ground last week. The screen is cracked badly and I think the camera on the back is even messed up b/c the lens points slightly upwards instead of pointing center. I'm pretty crafty and good with fixing electronics but eBay research shows digitizers are crazy expensive ~$150. Is it worth fixing?? The phone powers up but the screen stays black so I'm pretty sure it's the digitizer apparatus... Any thoughts??

I m damn sure that person who lost it or probably dropped would hav blocked its IMEI.. So even if u spend some dollars to make up it is of NO USE!! Sometimes u might get caught if he s claiming insurance as the mobile is lost!! So careful..
what do u mean i'll get caught?? Is it criminal? I have no way of returning the phone and i'm pretty sure they won't want it anyway b/c it's busted.. will i get fined or something?
Scrap it dude, not worth the trouble and money.
I'll give you about treefiddy for it.
$150 is pretty good considering you getting it for just that amount, only thing is you are unsure of the internal stuff until you get the screen up & running. so that's a risk.

So basically...I need an S6 Edge motherboard and I can't find any.

Disclaimer: I am new to this forum and I realize this may not be the right place for this post, but I know there are a lot of cool people on here so here goes anyway:
Okay so here's the story: A friend gave me a water damaged Galaxy S6 Edge and tried his best to revive it beforehand (soaked it in 99% alcohol, etc). It was exposed to water and afterwards the display went south...or so we thought. I bought a replacement used display and installed it, but it did not fix the problem. The logic board is the only thing I haven't replaced yet, and it has signs of corrosion, so I believe it's the culprit. Weirdly enough the phone still boots, charges, makes noises and can receive calls presumably...just no display.
I went on eBay and other sites trying to find any motherboard at all for the phone, but I couldn't find any in my price range (only 2 listings I found were like $300). Does anyone know where I can get one? I don't care if the IMEI is bad, etc; I just want the phone to work again. I'd like to keep it under the $120-150 range. I already have about $125 into this phone so I don't want to spend a lot more.
If anyone can help me out that would be great.
I have broken my S6 twice (it's not a bad phone, I had a lot of bad luck). And the second time the phone went total loss. The repair guy explained to me the S6 Edge doesn't really have a normal frame, since most of the things are actually glued to the screen. Repairing it, will be extremely hard. I know this is not a direct answer to your problem, but please be sure you know what you're going to do, before dropping a couple of hundred dollars on a motherboard.
Thanks but I know what I'm doing, haha. And no, the only glue inside the whole phone is the back glass and battery. Everything else is held in by connectors or screws.

Replece glass screen.

Hi
Sorry if wrong category. I was sheard forum and i dont found that problem.
So, i have S6 Edge with broke glass screen. In my country everyone say its impossible replace it. I must pay one month pay work for new screen......
But i saw many YT tutorials where mens from other countries do it.
I have
New glass(cheap chinese)
hair dryer
UV flashlight
UV Glue
deck of cards
scalpel
But, no one says how i can clean old glue and how i can repair long hole in side device(i want incuding photo but i cant), that thing under glass but upper screen become detached. Can i use screen glue? When i push in specific place then touch buttons work, normaly no i use ****[email protected] program and TouchWiz always screaming at me when he need some app permissions so i must reinstall it over and over...
Sorry for my tragic English, this is not my native language. I tryed hard. Thanks everyone for help.
Hmm I know other people who have been in this situation where the screens are very expensive or hard to replace. They purchased phone insurance and then made a claim a few weeks later and got the screen fixed.. after reading you've already attempted so you'd have the extreme cases of saying it was lost... There's many things wrong with this method but many do it

Okay, well hopefully someone on here can give you some good advice
i tried replacing my screen, i ended up tearing the LCD so had to buy a new LCD assembly which is easy to replace but it costs a fair bit more.
this is by far the best way but if you want to just try the screen then be very very careful as the LCD is glued to the screen and hard to seperate.
That hole its biger and biger. Now i have left and rigjt button with only back funcion. Something is really bad there. I must repair this fast.
OK, theme to close. I **** up screen. Never ever repair phone when drunk. Eeverything go to trash.
