So basically...I need an S6 Edge motherboard and I can't find any. - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Disclaimer: I am new to this forum and I realize this may not be the right place for this post, but I know there are a lot of cool people on here so here goes anyway:
Okay so here's the story: A friend gave me a water damaged Galaxy S6 Edge and tried his best to revive it beforehand (soaked it in 99% alcohol, etc). It was exposed to water and afterwards the display went south...or so we thought. I bought a replacement used display and installed it, but it did not fix the problem. The logic board is the only thing I haven't replaced yet, and it has signs of corrosion, so I believe it's the culprit. Weirdly enough the phone still boots, charges, makes noises and can receive calls presumably...just no display.
I went on eBay and other sites trying to find any motherboard at all for the phone, but I couldn't find any in my price range (only 2 listings I found were like $300). Does anyone know where I can get one? I don't care if the IMEI is bad, etc; I just want the phone to work again. I'd like to keep it under the $120-150 range. I already have about $125 into this phone so I don't want to spend a lot more.
If anyone can help me out that would be great.

I have broken my S6 twice (it's not a bad phone, I had a lot of bad luck). And the second time the phone went total loss. The repair guy explained to me the S6 Edge doesn't really have a normal frame, since most of the things are actually glued to the screen. Repairing it, will be extremely hard. I know this is not a direct answer to your problem, but please be sure you know what you're going to do, before dropping a couple of hundred dollars on a motherboard.

Thanks but I know what I'm doing, haha. And no, the only glue inside the whole phone is the back glass and battery. Everything else is held in by connectors or screws.

Hello, I would like to start off by saying that I've looked around these forums occasionally after my friend introduced me to it. I have found this site and forums to be very helpful and I have hit a problem and I would like your opinion. If this is in the wrong section or I have done something incorrectly I am EXTREMELY sorry and would appreciate a point in the right direction.
Okay, so it all started when my friend was kind enough to give me his extra bodyguardz phone protector. So I put the cover on after a lot of tedious and fustrating work and allowed the phone to dry for 2 days. When I powered my phone on everything was fine EXCEPT that my touch screen does not work. After careful inspection I realized there seem to be some water stuck under the screen. I then allowed the phone to dry for a couple more days and I noticed the water amount decreased. At one point or another I did need to use my phone and since it worked beside the screen I figured it would dry even if I still kept using it. The amount of water has shrunken to the point where it is about the size of an ant. It has however remained this size for over a week and I dont see it decreasing. Now I have the Total Equipment Protection on my phone, but I realized that the water damage indicator sticker on the phone was gone red. The battery one is still white (I had the battery off the phone as I applied the protector). So what do you guys think I should do in this situation? Since the sticker is red I don't think they'll take the phone back. Should I just call them and say it was stolen and pay the $50?
Sorry for the long winded story and I am looking forward to your help. Everything seems to break on me and its really frustrating. I just got my laptop back after my back light died on me and the repair center forgot to send my battery back and I'm just getting mad at everything. Also had surgery earlier this week, haha aren't I lucky?
I could be wrong, but if you have TEP, water damage is covered. I was told that it's covered even if you drop it in the toilet or the lake. Many people have experienced a wide variety of results when making a TEP claim, so YMMV. If you take it in to your Sprint store, they may replace it, repair it, or tell you you have to go thru Asurion. If you don't like the answer you get the first time then try another rep.

[Q] i9100 Screen problem

I bought a galaxy s2 recently and the screen fails to register my touches suddenly.
Here the weird part, the screen is able to display everything perfectly.. but half of the screen doesnt register my touches.. left side not working, but right side is working..
so decided to send my phone for warranty and after a month, the distributor said that the LCD Socket is faulty due to the phone is pressed too hard.. they say it needs to replace the whole LCD Screen..
Is it possible to replace the LCD Socket only?
Why would you risk attempting to fix it yourself & voiding your warranty when you can get it fixed for nothing/properly under warranty ?
They are charging me myr700 for replacing the Lcd screen.. how is posible to damage the socket where the Lcd screen is perfectly fine? (no cracks no scratches no dents)
By right they should replace it for me without paying anything right?
Ahhhh. They're charging you. OK. I don't know what the warranty covers in your country or what your rights are with regard to same.
I know in Australia if my screen started to die like that after a month Samsung would be paying to replace the screen/the phone. At worst I'd end up paying postage to send the phone in to them.
It might well be worth your while/cheaper replacing it yourself in that case. Not sure if it's possible to replace just the socket, you may have to replace the whole screen. Plenty of tutorials to show you how to do this online, and you can get the screens from a plenty of places online as well (eBay might be a good start).

I searched internet for the i9100 LCD Socket but no results found.. I guess I have to replace the whole LCD Screen already.. ebay selling them around myr600+ also.. So is it better to DIY or pay a little bit more and letting the professionals to do it?
There are some doubts that I would love to ask you.. I always place the phone inside my jean's pocket and they said the pressure of jean's is high enough to cause damage to the phone's internals. Is that true? The jeans Im wearing is not very tight either..
I guess whether worth saving MYR 100 is worth it or not depends on how technically adept you are, I.E, do you think you can swap the screen out successfully based on having a look at the video tutorials that show you how to do it ? If you're in any doubt, you'd probably want to have it done professionally. I cracked the screen of my Nokia N958GB about two weeks after I got it a few yrs ago, ended up having it done professionally as the saving if I did it myself would have been similar to your situation now (I would have saved maybe $50-$60 AUD). I'm just not dexterous enough to do a job like that perfectly
I keep my SGS2 in my front jeans pocket when I wear them & haven't had a problem, tho I do have a fake leather flip case. I'd be surprised if the pressure from having them in a not tight jeans pocket would be enough to damage the phone, unless you put pressure on the phone while it was in your pocket maybe ?
Sounds like they're trying to weasel their way out of repairing it under warranty to me, but the problem is (which other people have found on here over the past few mths I've been visiting here) trying to prove that they should repair it under warranty which would probably cost you as much/more than the repair is worth to have an 'expert' (someone who works with small electronics) examine your phone & who is prepared to issue a report or similar saying it's definitely a fault with the phone & wasn't caused by you.
Tricky situation you're in man Maybe contact a consumer organisation in your country and ask for advice if they still refuse to repair it under warranty ?

Alright, thanks a lot for the information. I think I better let them repair the phone because if I repair the phone myself, its pretty risky and i might even damage the phone further.

[q] need help fast, lcd looks as if its broken???

I just recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 from eBay, the seller stated that the LCD screen was "very dark" and not quite working right. When I received the phone it was far more then "very dark", half of the screen looks as if the LCD is leaking out or has been broken? The digitizer is mint and works and the phone its self is in AMAZING shape. NO scratches or chips or anything. It honestly looks brand new. I even tested the battery for usage and its showing up that this battery IS indeed brand new. Like I said it is mint so there is no possible way this phone was dropped. My first guess was a ROM issue, but I just noticed you can see the screen defect without the phone even being turned on. So what I am thinking is water damage. I read all over online about people having problems with there screens going black, this might also be the case. If it is water damage, does anyone know EXACT locations of indicators on the phone? I looked in the battery compartment and found nothing what so ever. I want to sell this thing today, (just received it in the mail) I need the cash so I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction?? I uploaded photos below, the second one is with the phone turned off, the reflection is from my computer. For reference, it is the Samsung Galaxy SII 19100, with Bell Canada. Thanks in advanced!

See Im trying to figure out if the LCD was broken by physical damage or if this has happened before to people, because if its a manufacturing issue I can just send it back to Samsung and they will fix it no problem as long as this was caused on their part. If it WAS broken by the ebay seller, I might be better off buying a new lcd and installing it myself. I only paid $200CAD so it would be worth keeping if all thats wrong is the LCD. But like I said I would rather Samsung do it, lol its free.

Scratch that, the LCD is almost $200. Not worth buying and fixing. But does anyone know if this could be classified as a manufacturing issue? I can just send it in if it is?
anybody at all?? I just want to confirm that this could be a manufacturing issue, theres no water damage and the screen is not cracked from a drop any ideas would be awesome. I might just try to send it in to Samsung just to see what happens.

Is there a way to disable the internal temperature sensor?

About six months ago, I decided (foolishly) to try my S5's water resistance by taking it into the pool and taking some underwater pics and videos of my kids. They turned out great. My phone, however, was not happy. I didn't notice it until about 15 minutes after I took it out of the water. I turned it off, removed the battery, let it dry out for a few days, etc.
After that, it seemed to work again, with a few small problems. The first was that it started shutting down all my apps because it thought it was overheating. I installed an app that monitored the temp, and the numbers it was reporting were obviously wrong (way too high). The second problem is that it would no longer charge. It would either warn me that the battery was too hot, or too cold, to charge.
After some googling, it sounded like the problem might be the USB charging port daughterboard that was the problem. I took a look at the inside, and it did look like that was the only part that got wet. So I bought a new daughterboard and replaced it. I ended up destroying my screen in the process, and only just now was able to afford a new one, hence the six-month lag time.
So I finally have my phone back with a new daughterboard and new screen..... and I'm still seeing the temperature issues
Is there any way in the software to install a "hack" or anything to tell it to ignore those warnings, so that I can actually charge my battery and stop the OS from shutting down all my apps constantly? Could the problem be somewhere else besides the daughterboard? I'm really hoping that my phone isn't just dead, is all
If the back cover and/or usb cover were not securely in place when you took the device underwater, then something other than the usb port is most certainly the problem. That, or you had the phone under water for too long. The S5 is water-resistant, not water-proof. I think IP67 rating is less than 3 meters for less than 30 minutes exposure, or something. When you had it apart, did you look at the board? If you didn't, I think you can remove most of the board pieces from the back. Them them out, inspect them for oxidation, and give them a cleaning with a gentle toothbrush and rubbing alcohol. If you put it back together and you still get problems, there's nothing else you can do to fix it. It might be possible to make the hack you want, but I'm not aware of anyone having made one. Maybe you'd have to find someone who could do it for you, or learn yourself.
I also exposed my phone to water, but the microphone went out. That part is not shielded against water for obvious reasons. I guess Samsung expected the mic to handle more than just a little exposure. But mine failed. So I just warrantied it. None of my water stickers were set off. For you, I'd recommend just getting a new phone if you're with T-Mobile. $0 down on something newer. If you really love the S5, maybe just pay the insurance deductible.
I used to actually fix phones for a living, but I never do just glass on Galaxy phones bc IMO it's just not worth doing. So I would've replaced my own usb port/mic if it didn't require removing the glass.
I wouldn't recommend trying a free warranty even if your water sensors are white, because they'll probably be able to tell the screen was replaced... if they check. Will they? I dunno.
I'd sell you my new warranty but you've already invested a lot in to an aging phone, so I think it's better to cut your losses. I think I have around 300-400 left on it. It'll be unlocked and come with a case and glass screen protector, but it's still a lot on top of everything else.

I know for a fact that in the S4 the daughterboard with the USB also has this battery temperature sensor in it because this was a repair I performed many times. Just change the board and the phone will charge and function correctly again.
I, however, have NO idea if it's the same on the S5. And apparently not, judging by what you experienced. I'm sorry you had to go through that and I know how much you had to spend on a screen. That sucks.

Water Damage

I work for Bell Canada, got this phone a week ago today. A couple of days ago, I was leaning over the toilet to clean it, and my cat jumped onto the counter, sending my BRAND NEW G5 into the toilet bowl (Sigh). Everything on the phone works except the LCD screen (LED works, sound, vibration etc) Opened the phone and took everything part (This phone looks amazing and really easy to repair) and put the motherboard in rice, along with the screen.
The water damage indicators on the battery and in the phone did NOT go off. So here are a couple of questions.
-If the water damage indicators didn't go off, could I say that the phone is defective and send it off without them noticing? Made sure to get all of the water out of the phone,
- The phone was working for 3+ hours after the fall, the only part of the phone that got wet the most, was the backside of the case
- Maybe it was a coincidence that the LCD stopped working after 3 hours? Maybe it was actually defective since no indicators went off, indicating water damage?
The phone was bought outright, I would be pretty upset if they couldn't fix it, or worse if I would do the repair myself, if they knew it was water damaged, Bought a new screen to only have it not work anymore.
Would very much appreciate answers!
Using my G4 for now that I bought a month before the G5 was announced lol.
I hate to say it, but a lot of OEMs (mobile and otherwise) use other indicators to tell if the device has been repaired/disassembled. Usually it's a sticker, but they can get creative with it. You could always try, but I cant guarantee that they won't be able to tell.
BTW, this is something you might want to be careful asking; people can get kind of picky about it since it is a bit fraudulent and, in essence, your fault.
Just Replace the Screen
