Sgs 2 stuck in handsfree mode - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am having the weirdest problem here and need some advice. Tried the search function but came up empty, although it seems by googling that other people have faced it. Problem is that none of the following helped.
Out of the blue my phone thinks that the handsfree jack is used at all times.
So, when i actually use the handsfree all is ok.
When i unplug it i still get the headphones icon on the notification bar and every sound except ringtones is routed to the headphones jack so i have no sound at all.
Tried:
Flashed stock rom, other developers roms, and every piece of kernel i could get my hands on. Of course in the process i did the proper wipes from the cwm menu.
Factory reset.
Sound test through the *#*#0673# menu.
Plugged - unplugged the headphones like 100 times.
Cleaned the headphones hole with cotton bud.
Applied force to the walls of the headphones hole with the jack plugged in.
Took it to a tech friend of mine who took the whole thing apart and tested almost every piece of hardware to his personal handset..everything works as it should.
For now the plan is to keep pluging unplugging the handsfree till it works. I will do that because one time it actually played music from the speaker for a couple of seconds... Unfortunately it then started using the headphones again.
I could really use some help here from the gurus PLEASE.
Thanks in advance
Alex

I would have to guess it's a hardware problem... although you have tested everything, still, I'd have to vote for sending it in for service

Lost of all system sound - Pls Help

Hi there, I newly joined the family of Athena this week.
After reading extensively about rom flashing ( I am an universal users for 3 yrs and have quite good experience with flashing rom), i decided to try my luck with my new Athena and upgraded it to WM6. Here I go.
Everything went as smooth as ever, nothing wrong. I have used it for a few days and enjoyed my new toys.
Yesterday, suddenly, I have lost all my system sound. I can't play video with sound, no more system beeps, no more speaker phone. But, the ringer is STILL there. When people calls me, I can still get the phone but I can't talk thru the speaker phone but i can do it thru handfree whatsoever.
I have tried to play a MP3 on the Athena. The media player prompted me that there is a "the specified module could not be found".
Please help me out here.... I would love to have my perfect athena back . Thanks alot.
have your tried doing a hard reset after the actual upgrade? and have you tried doing a hard reset now?
something like this happened to me when i still had the original rom installed. no sounds but whenever plugging in the headset i could take calls. all sounds were streamed to my bt headset whenever it was bonded. several hard resets did not solve the problem.
the solution was for me to upgrade to the then newly released ak3 rom. that's solved the problem but to this day i have yet to find what caused the problem. for you, you might try doing a hard reset. if that doesn't work, you may want to consider reflashing the rom you originally loaded.
hope that helps
Even after I have flashed the official WM6 rom, the problem still persists. Anybody out there can help me to get out of this unfortunate incident?
Thanks truly truly truly lots.
At last, after reading more articles on flasing and different roms, I fond that Radio Rom is in control of all those wireless "components" of my U1000. As I thought all the system sound have been incorrectly re-routed to the bluetooth (I dunno why but just a guess wild enough). I decided to take a adacious move, FLASH a NEW RADIO ROM!
I flashed Radio 1.8 into my U1000 and BANG!!! all sounds come back and everything is back to how good they used to be !!! HURRAH!!!
Thanks for everybody who has tried to help and hope this is a method to solve somebody's problem. Thanks again
hi all,
it's easy to solve, it is a hardware issue. same happened to me: the speaker jack gets so dirt that the athena thinks it has something plugged. that's why you only hear the incoming calls, because if you plug a headphone it still keeps theincoming calls ring.
you just have to clean it very carefully with a small wooden stick and blow into it to take the dirt out. be extremely careful!
I have tried that before. but to no avail. I am not quite sure if it is a HW problem or a SW one. AFter flashing it with Radio Rom 1.8.. it works perfectly but at the end I dunno why that symptom starts again.
Is it possible that my Radio Rom is somewhat corrupted and volatile that it reverts to its "corrupted" state?
Still in need of help.. thanks
believe me, its a problem of dirty jack.... look into it ensuring you have light enough to see what's inside it...
Thanks Dan. It's a hardware problem at the end I confirmed.
I tried to clean it with Alcohol Pal but the problem persists. So I send it to my serviceman to repair it.
hi
this issue has somtimes nothing to do with drit in the jack. its a desing problem of the used headphone jack in the device. somtimes when you remove the plug one of the tiny contacts dosent swing back to it's normal position, so the device still thinks u are using the headphones. these kind of problems also happend on other htc devices like the universal. on my athena (and universal) the solution is to plug and remove the headphonejack serval times, this will normaly fix the problem.
greets mad
Take a sewing pin

He is right. Just take a sewing pin and try to press contact pins to its normal position. I solved same problem in this fashion. I hope this will help you.

Headphones

Hi,
my htc hero , tells me that i use headphones all the time, but in reality nothing is connected,
so i can't hear anything unless i use headphones.
please help
use a cotton bud/ear swab/whatever you call it to clean the headphone jack.
you may need to remove some of the cotton for it to work, but it should sort it.
happened on the iphone a couple times
well , i tried to clean the headphone jack ,
but still nothing..
any other ideas?
dont know how to fix your problem as it could be a short circuit, a bit of dust, or even moisture etc.. .
but a great work around is the widget "toggleheadset" google search and first link. Download it , put it on your handset and install it on your homescreen as a widget. at least you could make calls while waiting for the problem to fix itself
well , i don't know if the cleaning helped before,
but i turned off the phone for the night, and when
i turned in On in the morning everything was in place..

[Q] Noise cancellation/microphone hole is not open

Hi there,
At my SGS2 it seems the microphone hole next to the microUSB cable, is not open. Everybody complains they can't hear me.
Sure, I can send the SGS2 back, but then I'm won't have a phone for the next couple of weeks.
Does anyone know, who already disassembled the SGS2, what this could be? Some soft plastic which I can easily remove with a needle?
My last option would be send it back, but maybe you guys know an option?
Can I use some audio codes for cranking up te mic?
Thanks!

Hmm .. seems I have the exact same problem here. People are complaining they can't hear me and they hear a terrible echo. Tried with headset, problem solved (of course ) Not sure if it is not open, I can see something gray inside the hole, which could be the mic. Disassembling is not an option for me, just got it yesterday so .. if there is really something wrong I will go back to the store asap.
I am disappointed about this, really, expected a lot from this phone to replace my Desire.
EDIT: tried also speakerphone, then it is all normal. Speakerphone uses the mic on top near the headphone jack, I just found out. It looks like a faulty mic to me (or covered with something).
EDIT 2: Fixed, although people say that with my previous phone the quality was better. Reset to factory defaults did the trick for me. It seems that the firmware update the other day (used Kies) had messed something up, that is my guess.
New device
Well, I kept holding the problem. Yesterday in the morning all was fine, in the noon people kept telling they hear me with bad quality and an echo. I went back to the store, explained the situation, they gave me a new device. I can clearly see the difference in the microphone hole .. the first phone it was closed, here it is more open. Problem should be solved now, I hope. I can say that I tested the quality myself and I can hear the difference. The sound of voice is more clear and louder.
I think it is word a shot for you to try to change your phone for a new one.

Headphone/aux sound breaking

Hello, my problem is that my sound output *breaks* or whatever, after random time of playing music through headphones or speakers connected to the aux.
Sometimes i can play music for 5minutes, sometimes 20min etc, before it breaks.
Sometimes the sound will start sounding disorted and crappy and then sometimes its a beeping sound, if i plug out aux the music plays fine and if i plug aux in again there is no sound at all or there is beeping/hissing. (sometimes it just go silent)
After this happens i normally cannot get sound from aux for several minutes sometimes even longer, but after awhile it works again, but not for long.
I recently bought a new antenna module (with the aux) and replaced it and i thought my problem was fixed, i played music for long time for 3-5 days, but now the problem is back again.
I have searched alot but i cant find anyone with same problem or any solution to it, guess ill have to get it repaired somehow, i just dont understand what is causing this, its clearly not the aux itself since i just replaced it with a brand new.
I have tried to increase and decrease the volume with stweaks, but no matter how loud or low it is, this happens.
However i do think its hapapening sooner or only happening when the musicplayer volume is above 10 (even if that will be low when i modify the amplifier in stweaks)
Any suggestions?
Here is a link to a mp3 i recorded to show the issue
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86952153/aux%20jack%20issue.mp3
(sorry for bad quality but u hear the issue)
I start with phone speakers, then plug aux in and after silence i plug out and in again.
Bumping it once in hopes of answers

I forgot to update this, i sent it for repairs 3 times and only first time did they change the antenna module with the aux input.
The 2 other times they could not reproduce the problem, but it was there every time i got it back.
So i managed to cancle the whole purchase after some fighting with the store i bought it from.
If u are as ulucky as me the repair center wont find the problem when they test it, but if they do find it they can maby fix it.
Another thing to point out is that while the aux would have this problem, there was no problem when i played through micro usb with the ibolt docking cable.

Headphone jack problem

Hello!
Half year ago I purchased my Z2 and after using it for a month some problems started happening with the jack plug. When I plugged in any headphones and started listening to music, it would stop if the jack got moved even by a tiny little bit, like if you put it in your pockets or just by rotating it with my hand very slightly.I took it to the local service centre and they replaced it.It was working fine until now and it started doing it again. My phone is fortunately waterproof, never had problem with that.I'll take it to the service again but do you have any idea how to prevent this next and what could cause this?
Thank you
Bad luck bro.No one from here complained about that kind of problem. From my experience the only problem i had with the jack was when i dived the phone in to water. After that the jack was not responsitive for like 2/3 hours.I dont know if there is some kind of protection preventing it from working so that the jack can dry in that time. After the 2/3 hours the thing was that when i plug the earphones in it the same problem like yours occured for like 1/2 hours.Sometimes it detected the earbuds, sometime it didnt. It constantly connected/disconnected them, but only for like half an hour or so,then it went back to normal working perfectly.
I got the same problem, and my girlfriend got it also since two weeks ago. I fixed it (actually not fixed it, but made it much less annoying) on my phone by blowing in my headphone jack. (It has nothing to do with water here, phone hasn't been in contact with water!!)

Wow! I remember trying this before but it never worked, now I got out all the dust with a chopstick and I blowed in it really hard and now it's working perfectly.Don't know how long this is gonna last but thank you!
I have sometimes fibre from jeans stuck in the headphone jack and have to use needle to take it out, otherwise headphones aren't detected at all. I almost had a heart attack that the phone is damaged, but it was just debris from a pocket..
You could also try enabling the Smart Connect - Music on the go such that it would auto play the music tracks that you have to mitigate the problem u are facing. Else, try to get a RMA

That wont solve it at all lol. It has nothing to do with software.
I had such a problems. I messed a bit with a screwdriver and I got it fixed, but DON'T do that if you have warranty. I was scared that I almost broke it forever back then but I somehow fixed it and never touched it again.
However, what you can do is to take a needle and on the bottom there might be some dirt from the pocket. Try to take it out.
Sent from Xperia Z2

It's most likely software issue. the proof is me. I had same problem. When my Z2 can detect the earphone, I tried to reboot it without unplugging the earphone. Guess what, the earphone is undetected after phone reboot. And unplugging / plugging it again did nothing. There's workaround though, my Xiaomi Piston had button on it, so I pressed the button while plugging the earphone (there're a lot of thread about it here). Then it worked, sound came to the earphone, but the buttons didn't worked (when it works normally, the button works). So I think it's most likely have something to do with the software. If it was hardware issue, then once the earphone detected, a reboot would still make it detected.
It never happened so far on the bundled noise cancellation earphone, always detected, spot on.
