Setup and apps after reboot vanished - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have a big problem. Every time i start my sgs2 new, some applications are deleted and some setups also gone. I have Checkrom hd v6 and Android 2.3.6. I tried siyah and speedmod kernel, but nothing has changed. I hope some of you can help me. I searched but I couldn't find some threads where my problem was mentioned.

Yes and stock rom will wipe the phone though some stuff may still be on the sd card .

So this is like I would format the sd card or is there an different between format sd card and install the stock rom? Or do I have I to do both?

I have found an other folder called LostDir (the other folder was on the external SD) . There are some files. I made a screenshot. What is it? And what can I do with this information?

Backup anything important, factory reset, clear cache & dalvik in CWM recovery. Followed immediately by flashing ROM.
If you're stock and not rooted, factory reset after backup.

Fix permissions in recovery or,
1. Backup all data including contacts, pictures etc as will erase everything.
2. Dialer *2767*3855# to master reset
3. Flash again
EDIT: Please do not double double post, see you've posted same problem in the CheckROM thread too...............
Tried. Didnt work . When in recovery it says sd marker not found. Could that have something to do with it

Slight hint there that the sd card may be missing or corrupted or the rom just cannot see it .
Try
....................................
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

Have you scanned the card for errors?? Quite obvious suggestion ... where i would of started
I have scanned with anti virus have done disk check on it . Done master reset. Follwed by flash stock rom then checkrom again . Have formatted sd via pc and via recovery i have done everything everyone has suggested just does not work . As i said it was fine . Then i went to look at my albums then they was gone without me touching any setting or changing anything. Just simply opening gallery. And also as stated my phone would not ring or alert me to msgs as they have gone to . But i can still see everything in the same folders / PAths etc with root explorer
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
ok right i have done it all again gone back to complete stock , hard reset , formatted everything sd cache etc via recovery and formatted sd on pc .. went back to stock again after just gone through all the process to get checkrom back . still cant see pics in gallery even tho i can see them in files and root explorer . even moving them and then copying them back to the correct folder they do not show . also done the same for all ring sms alarms and notification tones .. still cant see them by selecting alarms ring sms etc tones ...even taking pics now wont save to gallery they just vanish . to the correct folder but dont show in there
I think your system cant find sd card. It is maybe hardware problem.
Or recovery file is wrong.
Do you have only 1 recovery file? If not, try other file.

Sorry for my English.
In Korea, final solution is flash moviNAND ROM. It will be clear perfectly. It is some different between stock rom and movi rom.
Back up your sd card data. And try it.
But Im noob and also not good at english. Sorry

Hi all,
Hope your well.
Im having the same issue too when trying to install apps. Exactly the same message. just over 6GB available in storage.
Im trying to install friendcaster no luck.
Tried to install you tube too, no luck. I have checked data/apps and I have no Odex files in there. Also, I have not installed friendcaster before on this phone therefore there will not likely to be any odex files for that app.
I am on Omega Rom, which is deodexed.
Btw, where is internal storage gone? only see SD storage and ExSd storage.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks guys

Having odex files is the issue that comes to mind but if you have checked it and there isn't any related to friendcaster then u should try wiping cache n dalvik to see if that works.

Salaam bro.
Thanks for your response.
This may sound silly but I was trying to think back a few days ago if I had made any system like changes to my phone. I then remembered that in one of the settings menu in Rom Toolbox, there is an option to choose where to install apps. Auto, internal or SD card. I changed it from Auto to SD,thinking (logically) it would save internal storage. It turns out (so far)that this was the issue. I changed it back to auto and then I was able to install the app. Wierd I know. Im confused. I hant tried to install anymore apps yet so not sure if this is sorted for good but will keep an eye out.
Once again thank you for taking time out to respond.
Btw, all the best for Ramadhan!! (next month!!)

U shouldn't need to install apps to external as u have a lot of memory this time around n u can also use a lot of software to move game data to external sd and run them from there by Binding the directories. Update to 4.2.1, big mistake! Please help!

I was using Android Revolution HD 4.1.2 and decided to update to 4.2.1 (bad decision!). The installation all went okay but then i noticed my files were missing however there was no free space after extensive searching i found that all my file on the internal SD folder had been moved to /data/media/ from some strange reason. So i decided to move them all back however, my memory began declining till there was no more space, I found a folder in /storage called emulatedSD which had two folder called 0 and legacy which within them also had copies of my SD memory. This was all getting too confusing so I decided to flash back to 4.1.2 however recovery was somehow reading the SD memory from the root folder not the /sdcard folder. So on restarting it its stuck in a boot loop (repeating the samsung animation anyway).
I was hoping someone could guide me on how to recover my phone back to normal, I don't know if reflashing a stock rom would work as its the root folder that are messed up, please help!
In recovery format sd card system data cache and preload should give you an empty phone .
Boot to download mode and flash stock rom .

Thanks! Do you know where i could find these stock roms?

The folders legacy and 0 I think are associated with Siyah kernel and dual boot?
Where you using Siyah kernel? If so, you may have (almost definitely) messed that up so I'd suggest starting from scratch again anyway - as per the posts above me.

I think your phone must be rooted
So the best is that backup your apps witg titanium backup first
Download a stock rom from sammobile.com or you could just use Android Revolution HD
And then wipe your data with CWM recovery
And flash the firmware via PC odin

[Q] Having read/write errors, any advice? [Solved]

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem, please if anyone can help.
When I tried to open QuickPic, there is a popup saying that "Not an Error. Unable to Read/Write in Database" something like that.
When i try to open Gallery, I can't even open the app. It says memory full, delete some application, etc.
When i take a screenshot via power + home, it says Unable to save screenshot, try delete some space etc.
When i try to send a image over whatsapp it says cannot preview image.
I have plenty of space in my internal and external sd card, i have cleaned the caches, wipe app data etc, fixed permissions in recovery but no luck.
Any other solutions?
I am on Neat rom 4.8 lite. Thanks
Solved
Okay i found the problem, basically i connected my s2 to a tv via usb to play movies, the tv installed a corrupted read only folder on my internal storage, not sd card, which was the culprit, after deleting that folder with the unlocker application on pc sorted the problem out. Thanks everyone for helping.
Backup entire sd card (internal + external) to pc then in cwm format sd card internal+external and restore files back
Send from my SGS2 I9100 with HassanROM and latest DorimanX 8.xx kernel
Before you do anything could you post a screenshot of your settings->storage->Device Memory, I just need to confirm whether it's a bug or something.
Edit:After looking at that we could probably fix the problem.

It may be a bug i am not sure, I can create folders and do cut paste actions. I also just now restored a nandroid backup of previous rom which was working fine, but the problem still persists.
I guess i will have to do a clean install of a rom again from scratch? any other possible precautions to take before i start this process? thanks

Use a nuke script perform a complete wipe data/cache/dalvik, restore rom.
Edit : The precautions are the usual things which you did when you flashed neatrom. You will have to backup everything in a computer though . After the wipe just mount the sd card via recovery and copy your backup back.

It could possibly be the problem, if the device drivers got corrupted due to that usually a reflash could solve the problem, try flashing with several different roms and kernels if this ain't anything at hardware level it should get fixed.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10.2 Stable on i9300

Hi guys,
I've finally upgraded my phone and put a custom rom on it. I went with CyanogenMod 10.2, as it's in a stable version, however it keeps freezing for me..
Previously I had the stock Samsung Touchwhiz Android, and that would freeze sometimes also. As it turned out, it was due to the amount of free space on my internal sd card, so creating a bunch of 'dummy' files, so that there wasn't much free space, would prevent the freezing.
My question is, could this free space problem still be an issue with the new Cyanogenmod rom installed? The new rom freezes very often, a lot more often than it would with Touchwhiz, but I've got heaps more free space (as I did a format of the internal card before flashing), so that could be the reason for the increased freeze rate.
If not, how do I go about checking what errors are thrown when my phone does freeze?
Thanks,
Luke

Thanks for the reply. Where do I get the cyanogenmod installer from?
The way I was installing the cyanogenmod was through CWM. I first did a factory reset, then I wiped the cache, then I wiped the dalvik cache, and only after that did I select to apply an update from the sdcard, where I selected the first one from this list (that I had already downloaded and copied to the sd card) http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=i9300&type=stable.
Is this process different to the cyanogenmod installer?
I downloaded the eMMC check app, and it tells me that I have the 'Insane Chip', which means I'm prone to SGS3 Sudden Death. Attached is a screenshot of the app (I've had to take a photo with an old phone, as the S3 had frozen again at this point).
This is after I restored a backup that I had made through CWM, so that's why the icons are green (ala Touchwhiz), and not blue, as per stock android.
Thanks,
Luke
