[Q] Disassemble? YP-G70 USA 5.0 - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Ok i have a quick question about the Galaxy 5.0. My question is how to take it apart if i ever have any issues (repairs)? I own alot of electronics so its just in my nature to know how to take things apart "IF THEY NEED TO BE". I am a proud galaxy owner but just like any other mp3 such as the ipod touch we may come across disassembling. So any info would be helpful but video would solve my question.

First, take out the SD card and unplug it from everything obviously.
There's 3 screws around the top and bottom. Two are under little white stickers, one is in the SD slot. If you carefully lift the stickers off with a razor blade you can put them back where they were.
Once you have the screws out, the back cover snaps off but it's pretty difficult. I usually work the plastic clips around the edge with my thumbnails. I start on the long sides of it, then move to the top, then the top corners. Once you pop the top end off, then work down to the bottom end while watching out for the headphone and usb ports.
The corners are pretty difficult to get undone, especially without a screwdriver.
Reinstalling the back cover is cake though, snap it together and 3 screws back in. Gotta pay attention to the headphone jack though, and there's a little chrome trim ring that goes around the headphone jack that sits in the back of the cover that you wanna make sure you don't lose.
It's really not difficult at all, just be patient with it.

I Can't tell if these are USA or International version. Hope it helps.

This is just to clarify, the screen is working, it is the capacitive buttons at the bottom (back home and menu) that are broken correct?
If yes then there are a few easy solutions
Use pacman rom/aokp/paranoid android rom and enable soft buttons (all three are variants of cyanogenmod with extra features.)
download from the play store a app that enables soft buttons
either way allows you to use software buttons instead of the capacitive ones, provided your touch screen works.

Case w/ Stand (review)

My case finally made it in last night and I wanted to get a quick write-up for you guys.
This was made for the ZT-180 so there are a few minor issues and mods that need to be made but nothing major. Here is what I've noticed so far:
-The USB is covered when the snap is closed but when it is upright you don't use the snap
-There is no access to the home buttons. I am going to rectify this by either adding some felt or rubber 'nubs' underneath to accept the press or just get a hole punch to it.
-There is a 1/2 gap (space) along the long side. I am going to add a foam insert towards the top (camera side) as you get the full viewing area when the tab is pushed all the way down (or left).
-There are a couple of magnets there; one to keep the kickstand in place when its not being used and one in the corner to help keep the folio closed (not very powerful but does the trick)
-Speakers / Dock / Volume ARE covered
All in all for $20 I am very pleased. I purchased it here and shipping took about 12 days.
MOD EDIT: Ebay Link
Hope this help someone! PM or post if you have any other questions or ideas.
Did you opt out of getting the nifty keyboard/case for the ZT-180?

Yea... I havent gotten to the point where I wanted a keyboard 'yet' (working on swype now)... I also figure when I do I'd perfer a micro usb one anyway as opposed to running a cable each time.
This is exactly the same case I got for mine (I thought I was getting the clip version, but they sent this by mistake).
So far, I've cutout holes for the menu and home buttons (which actually work semi-well), cut away the side for the search button, cutout a whole section of the front so that the screen is visible, cutout a hole for the camera, cutout a piece to get access to the volume buttons and some tape keep it in place.
A real mess right now. At least this will hold me over until an official case comes out?

[FIX] Screen Responsiveness Issues

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a problem with the screen being selectively unresponsive... Here's a fix.
The screen needs to be grounded in order to function properly. HTC has designed for many of the components to be grounded into the aluminum back. All that has happened here to cause unresponsiveness is that screen isn't being properly grounded. We'll fix that.
Take the back cover off. What we are looking for is the grounding pin. It can be seen at the center of the bottom edge of the phone in this pic:

Here's a close-up:
That piece of metal makes contact with the inside of the back cover at a little square seen in this pic at the top middle: It's hard to see in the pic but easy in person.
So what we need to do is put some aluminum foil on that square to increase the conductance, or simply bend the metal lead on the phone so that it contacts the back more reliably. Or both
Fixed the screen responsiveness for me. You're welcome!
I have not had this issue but my GF's Sensation does... going to try this...
Yeah I had to do that for my sensation and it worked, be careful though when lifting the metal so that you do not break it off. The one in the sensation is very flimsy.

Worked for me , THX e_e

Help?
Can you make the third picture a little more zoomed out? No idea what or where it is. Thanks in advance. I have the same exact problem, and it annoys the crap out of me. If you're able to, can you also mark it on the image. Thanks.
I have done this, but I'm not sure if it had any effect... Worth a try!

[Q] Creacking Amaze

Has anyone noticed a significant creaking on there amaze 4g when pressing the screen. For me whenever i answer a call it sounds like pressing a button. The issue seems more prevalent on the right side of the screen and only with the casing on.

I have heard what are talking about, but I don't know if I would classify it as "significant". I think what you're hearing is the contact points, between the main body and the back cover, compressing because of the pressure of you pushing down. There's a couple of contacts near the video camera button.
I can only hear it, even faintly, if the environment I'm in, is pretty quiet. I guess I would have preferred HTC used spring loaded "pins", instead of the "folded" copper, but I don't think it's a big deal
My sister has that. I found it very annoying when I was rooting her phone.
Without a case its rather annoying, but with a tpu or d3o case its entirely inaudible.
I got this problem too, except its probably not as severe. A couple of times it wouldn't do it after I reseat it a certain way.

Not even slightest sound on my Amaze. Rock solid.
I believe it is the back (battery) cover that is making the noise and not the screen and it seems to be where it makes contact with the side of the device.
I think it's on the back as well, but mine seems to be around the center. Might put a small piece of foam there to see if it fixes anything.
I get a bit of noise, but it comes from the lower left part of the phone where there is play between the case and the rest of the phone. others have recommended that the use of foam helps with this issues.
Sensations have this problem all the time. Usually with a case though it goes away.

The more you flash (and subsequently pull the back cover) the sooner it will happen. It is slight wearing of the lock tabs and prongs inside the case.

Speaker Issues

The speaker on my Razr is no longer working, it had been intermittent for a while (working for a day, then not working for a few) but it hasn't worked at all this week. Occasionally a hard reboot (power button plus volume down) will make it start working again but its also been a while since that has worked.
I've already exchanged one Razr for a speaker not working and Amazon won't exchange the phone again for the same issue. Instead they want to offer me credit towards a different phone. Since I got the Razr during the penny sale, that doesn't help me much.
Has anyone seen or heard of this issue before and are there any fixes? Do you know if its a software or a hardware problem? I love the phone, its just very frustrating that the speaker doesn't work.
I may have the same problem..
Is it only the back speaker which is down ?
Sorry but so far my only (and no-efficient) solution was hard reboot
Yeah, its the rear speaker. Hard booting sometimes works but not always. Seems more like a hardware issue because I can tap the speaker when it stops working and it will sometimes start working again.
Having the same issue, the main speaker sometimes gets turned off (especially when micro usb is inserted, and then pulled out).
What usually helps is to gently press on the silver MOTOROLA logo on the top of the phone (in the middle of the logo).
So looks like when inserting/ pulling out micro usb cable, somehow something gets moved inside, so the contacts are shifted, which is screwing the speaker)????
Looks like will go back to the store :-( if this continues.
The ringtone speaker is glued to the backplane of the phone.
It's connected via two spring loaded connectors. (Dumb solution imo)
I believe some electrical contact cleaner could solve the problem.
Must be one WITHOUT oil! The oil might enter the lens.

My suggestion for a fix is this:
Step 1:
Remove plastic backing on the camera. Carefully!
You don't need to remove the entire kevlar backing.
(As you can see the backplate was made very ugly by the ifixit crew)
Step 2:
Hold the phone like the picture, and apply a miniscule amount of contact cleaner here, the idea is to make the cleaning solution hit the two springs and contact pads.
Step 3:
Tap and press the area around the speaker carefully, the idea being to rub the connectors slightly while wet.
Let it dry and keep it lying in this direction, you don't want this stuff in the camera!
All images taken from ifixit.
I take no responsibility for any damage, this would be a last resort type of fix if you can't get a warranty claim for it. This obviously voids your warranty completely too.

Audio routing through car dock jelly bean

*Bump* JB dock audio
I have a similar issue, were you able to get yours working?
I have struggled with this on every ROM/Kernel I have run on my Vibrant. So much so that I feel like I'm the only one using it. I don't even care about GPS anymore since its so buggy. I recently moved from Fishmans BIONX v4 to paranoid android JB 2.54-360 (CM 10) on my Samsung Vibrant (t959). The stock semaphore kernel that came with that ROM didn't support dock audio. I loaded 3.0.55-semaphore_JB_2.6.5sv (thur dec 6 22:30:51 EET 2012, but this one doesn't seem to support it either. I even installed dock audio from xcaliburinhand to enable it, but no dice. I LOVE all the features I currently have in this ROM, just need to add dock audio and it would be perfect.
Anyone get this working on a JB rom?

I spent hours looking for a software solution to this problem. Eventually, I just gave up and did a hardware solution, which I am 'open-sourcing' for the benefit of the community It took me about thirty minutes.
Insert a razor blade in the long side of the back cover, and pry the back cover off:

}
Work the back cover out, there are a bunch of those terrible plastic tab things:
You'll see five small screws in the back. Remove them. Grab a magnet off the refrigerator and stick the screws to it so they don't get lost.
Insert the razorblade at the top left corner, and work the front faceplate off. There are a bunch more of those plastic tab things along the bottom edge, it's the most challenging piece to remove:
If you break off the tabs on the bottom, don't sweat it. The screws will still hold everything together okay.
The USB connector is mounted on a plastic sled held on by two screws. Remove it, and pull it back and out of the way of where we'll be cutting.
(no picture of this step)
Cut away the top left corner of the dock, a square perhaps 5/16" on a side. If you want to prevent the plastic from getting marked up by errant saw cuts and the like, wrap the area around the cut in a few layers of masking tape, to give yourself a bit of warning before you start to cut into the dock. I didn't bother with that, you can see that the corner of the plastic got a bit marked up:
[Also, don't just grab your wood saw because it's nearby, use something more appropriate to the task like a dremel or hobby coping saw ]
Sand away the burrs and sharp edges. You can see that I didn't take my own advice about the refrigerator magnet, do as I say not as I do, I guess:
Reassemble. You still have all the parts, right?
The Result: You can now plug in the 1/8" jack directly to the phone, while still having the phone securely docked. Happily the phone and 1/8" audio connector tend to hide any damage you cause with the saw, so between that and the fact that it's all black plastic anyway, you wouldn't necessarily know a modification was made just by looking at it.
Additional remarks:
1. I brought this phone out of retirement in order to permanently put it on the dock and use it as a media player. If the phone is still your daily driver and you need to plug/unplug this getup several times a day, this probably isn't a good solution for you.
2. If you like to live dangerously, you can just cut away the corner without taking it apart and moving the electronics well out of the way. there's a screw that you would have to cut through before you cut into anything electronic, so there's a (very small) margin of error.
Hope it helps someone!
