Should I wait or should I buy the Galaxy Note LTE? HELP! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey guys. I've been wondering for the past 2 months on what phone(carrier) to get. My contract with T-Mobile is ending and I definitely want to switch to either AT&T or Verizon, (sprint originally but just because of the epic 4g touch) . My contract ends beginning of April and I am wondering what should I do. Should I wait and see what May will bring smartphone-wise or should I just buy the Note on AT&T ? What somewhat stops me from getting the note without any consideration is that it is not the Exynos processor (i know that people will say it does matter, but it does) and this will be my device for the next 2 years. So far I've played with the Galaxy Note and I like the big screen but it seems that it is not as snappy as the Epic 4g touch for instance. I may be wrong but please give me an advise. I am spending numerous hours looking at reviews and going back and fort to at&t's stores lol, trying to decide. What should I do? Do we think there will be something coming to the US in May, early June?

If I were in your shoes I'd just wait for the HTC One X.
It beats the Note in every way except the S-Pen. (which personally I rarely use)

Or if you don't mind waiting longer... the Galaxy S3.

I had Verizon. just recently and t-mobile..galaxy nexus on verizon and galaxy s2 on tmobile....this note rooted with running scripts makes this phone a beast......the screen size and resolution is amazing .....the htc one is limited...no sd card?.and others ...so what its a tiny bit faster....scripts and overclocking this device is more then enough processer speed to mutitask....and gaming is unreal on this screen size...ill never get another smaller device....just my opinion

the lack of sd slot and the battery issue are really turning me off of the HTC One X...that and the rumored delays...oh and the fact that it is only a slightly improved version of the p processor in the Note.

True about the SD card / battery.
But the S4 SoC is much better than the S3

I stand corrected...I thought there was a 8690 that they put in it...not the 8960
my bad,
I would still be lost without more storage and the risk of running out of juice

so with a little faster processor and a smaller screen.. be as fun as the note?...lol...this resolution and screen size makes the note what it is.....gaming....internet..etc is much better with a screen size of this device.....I wish they did have that processor in this device...but if your smart with tools...you'll never notice a difference in speed per device

But other things are important too.
Camera Performance - The Note lags BAD when taking photos
Screen - It's not that the Note's screen is too BIG, I just don't like the screen ratio. It messes up some of the apps and puts other apps (like Google Music) into tablet mode. Smaller screen will also have higher pixel density. Read everyone's first impressions of the screen.
Krait - From what we've seen so far... it beats the Tegra 3 in almost every single benchmark, and has twice the performance as the S3 in some other benchmarks
also the One X will probably be more widely adopted here for devs on XDA so I'm optimistic about what some devs will come up with.
But for me personally. I will wait until I see an official spec sheet / announcement for the Galaxy S3 before I buy anything.

Or maybe wait and see if or when Sprint or Verizon gets the Galaxy Journal with possibly a different and better processor that would have LTE support. Rumor has it that Samsung will have their new Exynos processors compatible with LTE so they don't have to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in the future.

I was in the same boat when i purchased my Galaxy AT&T Note about 2 weeks ago. I said F-it & went with the At&t over the International being my area is appose to get LTE come June. But im finding that HSPA+ works fine for me, plus i don't have a unlimited data plan.
That said i think i am stuck currently being i already exchanged my White Note for a Black one a few days back. "GF talked me into the White one" & i think you can only exchange once is this correct? DAMN HER! Lol kidding, white was nice but the black is more sleek and business like.
I paid full price of $650 for mine. I have two upgrades due in May. My GF is using one and i was gonna save the other for the Galaxy S3 or perhaps the HTC one X. Wasn't really sure.
Basically i am sorta wishing i went with the International version of the Note. But i mean i still love the At&t version.

Wow GS3 preorder for $800. And I see the "LTE 700" info, which I assume means that it should run fine on at&t LTE.
On the topic, if you're willing to continue to stay off-contract, I would say that it's best to wait for an ICS Note to come (hopefully soon)...or wait like another 2-3 months, and numerous new phones should be released.

its all rumor...they have had that up for a while now..actually may have been another site I had seen that on.
If you look around there are reports that the model number they used will most likely be a Galaxy SII plus...which matches info I have received from a friend at Samsung...

Thanks for all the replies. It seems too good to be true to see the Galaxy S3 out for preorders. Furthermore, the image used on their website is one that has been migrating from forum to forum. Some say that even though this may be real, it won`t be here until next year... how about now?? Galaxy Note or Htc One X ?

The HTC one X looks really interesting, specs and all. That might be a good one to go with. That is unless you have held a Galaxy Note in your hand for more than a few days, the HTC will prob feel tiny lol.

I did not need a few days.. within the 20 minutes of playing with it, I love the huge screen but considering that people are having speed issues and having to resolve to rooting flashing roms etc to make it faster, dunno.

I really wanted to hold out for the HTC as well. But my A9192 crapped out, so I had to get something.
In stock form I didn't notice any lag on the Note with TW. I haven't rooted yet (which is a record for me with Android phones). It's normally done the night after I buy it.
I installed ADWex, tweaked a bit, uninstalled as much AT&T **** as I could. I'm pretty happy with it. My first Samsung smartphone. The screen on it is amazing. People want to complain about it some, but it seems amazing, and as we're on XDA, most of the noobs you might hand it off to in the real world will also be amazed by the size/clarity/colors.
I was pretty hesitant the first day or two because I was used to ICS, overclocking, and unlimited options on my last phone.
The screen, size, build quality, and speed have been perfect though. I think it would lag if you had tons of widgets and bull**** running, but if you are smart, it should be a great phone. I don't think I could go back to a smaller one at this point.
Obviously every phone is faster with modified kernels, overclocking, and fresh roms, but I was ready to be disappointed with this phone, and somehow I was not. I also love that I can buy extra batteries and throw in my MicroSD from my last phone.
Oh yeah, the S-pen...I thought it was a bit gimmicky, and it is...but at the same time, I use it all the ****ing time to just draw stupid pictures or annotate screenshots.
TL;DR - Great phone. Only major drawback is Gingerbread. If you can live without ICS for a bit and it will fit in your pockets, get it. There will be a better phone out no matter what you get. The form factor on this one made it unique enough to take the gamble.

I would recommend buying the International Note from Expansys and use a plan for Straight Talk or Red Pocket Mobile instead of buying the inferior AT&T-version and lock yourself into a 24 months outrageous priced contract.
A calculation is coming here:
$299 for the AT&T Note plus at least $100 x 24 for the contract (including taxes and fees).
Total price: $2699.
If we take unlimited talk, unlimited text and the data plan with AT&T the price will be like this:
$299 for the Note plus $140-150 per month for the contract (including taxes/fees).
Total price: $3659
With Straight Talk, you get unlimited talk, text and approximately 2 GB of data for $45 per month or slightly cheaper with the 3 months card.
The calculation is therefore like this:
$680 for the International Note. $45 per month for the service.
Total for 24 months: $1660
Total saving compared to the unlimited AT&T plan: $1999.
I don't see any reason to pay $2000 more for the AT&T Note over the 24 months period.
For those $2000, it is possible to buy both the Note 2, 3 and even 4. I.e three new devices instead or just save the money.

S3 leaked video? looks pretty real

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3Ei61wWOr4w
Some background on this video...
How these guys in Vietnam manage to do it is beyond me. Tinhte.vn has done it yet again. They have managed to get hold of the Galaxy S3 and did a short video of it, in HD and posted it on Youtube where it went viral before it was pulled down.
Since then, a number of reposts have been made by other parties which makes taking the video down more difficult if not impossible. Tinhte published the first unboxing of the iPad 3 (or new ipad), it was also the first website to come up with the white iPhone 4 with 64GB.
The video shows a phone that appears to be a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with a similar system memory capacity, display size and resolution and OS. The onboard storage stands at 16GB, there's a quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, NFC, an eight megapixel camera and a 2050mAh battery.
This matches some sources which said that the Galaxy S3 would be an incremental improvement over the Galaxy S2 rather than a radical change.
The new phone appears to have dropped the slight bulge at the back and opted for a flat smartphone, certainly as a result of the case brought again Samsung by Apple over claims that the S2 was the thinnest phone in the world.
Read more: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/04/20/video-samsung-galaxy-s3-finally-emerges/#ixzz1sbXXXwCj
Meh. The video doesn't really reveal anything we didn't already expect. Plus, the phone is disguised in a generic case, so we can't see what the real design is going to look like.
The 2050mah battery is an improvement, but not what we need. We need something similar to the 3300mah battery in the Razr Maxx. Especially if it's not removable.
At this point, the only thing that will make me interested in buying this phone is if it ends up being bezel-less, and that is looking unlikely.
Why is this here?
And if those specs are indeed the real specs, Im glad Im jumping to the One X. The AT&T version will probably put in a Snapdragon processor for LTE (because every new smartphone has to have LTE now) and it wont have NFC due to AT&T pouring money into Isis. Incremental update indeed.

I'm really torn on what to do. I got my GS2 on the 9th so the One X release date is well within my 30 day return window. But to be honest, I'm sick of Sense and really had my heart set on the GS3.
I suppose the financially prudent thing to do is get the One X so it will have the best resale value should I have an incurable boner over the GS3.

I knew the next batch of super phones was on the horizon and the One X would hopefully be out before my 30 days was up. The GS2 is such an upgrade over the Amaze, this is almost like new hotness to me.
I've been called a lot of things in my day, but patient isn't one of them.
did you guys not hear that was not the actual case the GS3 is going to be using? It's just a dummy case.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hudqvbAetPE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
New teaser. Funny at the end.
Anyone put any thought into the blue and white puddles. Could it be a liquid metal type screen.....or the flexible screen. Just a thought i had for the hell of it.
Edit:
After looking around i see that Apple has an "exclusive commercial license to it"
Probably old news...so don't tase me bros....
Stay thirsty my friends
I say in a year and a half our phones will have 2 to 2.5x the power and capabilities we currently have - but I'm willing to bet batteries won't improve for 3ish years.
These things will be able to replace laptops and desktops through docks or projectors and better use of connected peripherals like virtual keyboards and wireless mice.
I'm betting 3.6-5ghz processors, 100-200gb space, faster/instant networking, full mobile gpu's and hacking will be more prevalent maybe even problematic to society.
Ah computers.

What, exactly, does this have to do with the Galaxy S II?

What do you feel about Galaxy S III ?

So now we have seen the great galaxy s3
I have three question
1-What do you feel about it ?
2-Did it satisfy you or did it disappoint you ?
3-are you going to buy it ?
Actually I was only disappointed by the design ,, but also some people who tried the galaxy s3 in the unpcak , said that it feels good in the hands
Secondly I am very impressed by the hard were
And the screen ,, I know it's pen tile
But hey with samsung's amoled Every screen will look gorgeous
Before I see the s3 I decided that I may buy HTC one X but now i I'm sure that I will buy the s3 because I know that it will be the greatest phone for the next six months then the galaxy note 2 or the new nexus will take the lead
the main selling point for me is the screen..we tech nerds like clear screen and picky about it maybe i just have good eye sight or got spoiled on my crappy iphone 4 screen had the note but returned it do to screen pixel issues and waited for theGS3 to come out but now im a bit eh about it due to screen should of been a plus+ HD..so tomorrow im going to best buy and get the HTC One X for a test drive..
like about GS3..screen size is nice/battery/SD card slot removable/design is ok not drooling over it could of been better like that mock up pic with that big clock widget on it that was nice mock up..just not digging the pentile screen..
like on HTC One X..design/screen...dont like..no sd card/removable battery/16GB on att version i think i can live with 16GB plus the 25/30GB of drop box thanks to grandfather unlimited data but still get slown down at 5GB on LTE but i can live with it.ill hit around that much of data by the end of the month..att sucks for doing this.! att version should have came with 32GB internal as well like the international version..plus the battery could of been a 2000mah for more use but i think the S4 chip helps with power consumption just depends on user/settings/how they use it ect.. if the HTC One X had a SD card slot and removable battery that would of been a winner IMO..
decisions decisions decisions us tech nerd geeks make huh most regular consumers wont care about pentile/not pentile screens..us nerds want the most high end out of the device so that said phone battle awaits for 2012 HTC One X/GS3/iPhone 5/Nexus..not sure about note 2 that to me is a hybrid and a nice hybrid device oh i miss my note in a way darn you pentile screens
1-What do you feel about it ?
I like the front design which looks like a Nexus device, but not the back. Overall neutral, its expected from Samsung, I have zero worry about build quality. I also feel Samsung shouldn't pay Microsoft the Android royalty fees and as for Foxconn.. nm
2-Did it satisfy you or did it disappoint you ?
I generally reserve these feelings for women, but... Yes the benchmark of the Exynos quadcore is very good and it has Wolfson DAC for excellent sound quality. I'm not impressed by other features, overall its a fair improvement, but major leap from the SII.
3-are you going to buy it ?
No, I just bought a Galaxy Nexus. I do think the SIII is a great phone, but I'm not willing to buy it for its (predicted) released price when there are much cheaper Galaxy models that work just as well even though not as powerful, not to mention the One X and S. Though I will likely buy one during Christmas time if the price drop a lot by then, which I don't think it will due to quadcore still being a big fad. So I predict waiting for the next Nexus device, but I doubt I can resist the temptation to try out a different phone once every few months.
1) i like the look for the fact that they have gone for a minamilistic look in a rather hungry market.
2) i believe it will satisfy me
3) pre-ordered as soon as i could have which was the following morning, guy on phone said "this is the first one i have put through" and this was at like 9.05 am

1-i think its a great looking phone. but i am worried about the mm of black in between the edge of the screen and the beginning of the bezel. i am hoping that it was just an issue with the pre-production models. otherwise... its a huge flaw in my book. its like painting your living room without 'cutting in'... sloppy.
other than that i am totally digging everything samsung has done this time around. the software tweaks alone make this phone a little nugget of gold in my opinion. the gs2 is/was a great phone. the gs3 ups the bar for each and every manufacturer of each and every os. the gs3 totally stands out from the crowd in software.
2-i think you can probably tell that i am satisfied. i knew that the hardware was going to be very similar to the one x and the design was going to be normal samsung. i was on engadget a couple days before the release saying that in order for samsung to keep the removable battery... i feared that would mean a plastic back. so the design and 'plasticyness' of it was of no surprise to me.
i must say though that i was definitely pleasantly surprised with all of the software tweaks within touchwiz (which i actually dont mind). we knew the eye tracking stay awake thing was coming, but i was impressed with the pip. the raise to call. these new lockscreen gestures. the airplay and airplay powerpoint. etc.
3- i dunno. if i do buy it then i will most likely buy the international version. it will be a while before att gets lte into nashville. if it is anything like their uverse roll-out then i will be the last city to get it. not to mention i read somewhere that they needed to buy crickets lte spectrum in order to cover those areas, and just the other day i read that cricket was going to start rolling out their own lte soon. so things arent looking good for me and an hspa+ phone will be all i need for the next year until the gs4 is released. and i for sure dont care to buy a phone that has the same processor as every other high end phone that hits the states.

i was the same way when i went from the 4 and then a week of the 4s to the gs2. i couldnt wrap my head around not being able to read the small text when browsing. i eventually got used to it after a couple of months, but it did take that long for it to happen. if it wasnt for me loving android so much more than ios i probably would have gone back to the iphone myself.
i hope by test drive you mean 'until the gs3 comes out'. lol. the ppi is hitting 306 on a 4.8" screen. you arent going to care that it is pentile. the droid razr screen is pentile and i can barely tell a dif from my amoled+ gs2. if i were you i would wait another couple of weeks before i bought the one x. by then there will probably be a tentative date for the us release and if you time it right... you can get a months worth of use out of the one x and then return it for $35 when the gs3 comes out.

Can I get an honest opinion....

I know this is the note forum and opinions will be biased. But I'm hoping we can be adults here...tomorrow is my last day that I can return my note to BB under their 30 day policy. I love this phone and all but it can definitely use a little more umph! Run MW3 on a non OC'd kernel then on DaG's kernel at 1.8 and you will know what I'm talking about. So the qustion is...how many of you would give this phone back and get the S3 on saturday given the option?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
1. I would keep the note, I love the large screen.
2. if i was to go back to the smaller screen: galaxy nexus > sg3 (i hate touchwiz and samsung/carrier software/upgrade cycle).
I hear that one x is pretty damn sick. Some people don't like the restriction of insternal sd only. But honestly all my music and photos and videos are on the cloud anyway...and the lack of removal battery? No biggie. I'm always near a charger...always. this thing is interesting as is the s3. Note is tight but me being someone who switches phones a lot, it might be time.

I've had mine OC'd on GB and running non- OC'd on ICS on Flapjaxxx's ROM right now. Honestly, I really don't notice a difference at all.
Other than just wanting to have the latest phone, I really can't think of any reason why I'd exchange my Note.

This. I do not think I would be hugely impressed if I traded this in for the SGSIII. The S4 processor is the only real improvement, and unless it is night and day better than the Note, I'd just miss having the Note screen size and stylus.
On a different note (<--ha), I recommended buying phones from Costco. Free accessories and a 90 day exchange period with no restocking fees. Plus their prices are usually cheaper anyway.

I have also recently had to make the same decision as I too buy my phones through BB but I think it comes down to personal necessity.
I am going to college in the fall so I needed something I could easily take notes on and jot down little ideas and such like that and I have also gotten too used to the phone size. Every time I even look at another phone it just seems microscopic. (as you get used to the big screen, sure you can get used to the small screen too)
If you are going to be using mainly for personal - GS3
If you are interested in mainly business or professional use, I would say the Note. (Plus, it looks more professional even when youre just texting ^.^)

Do you know if they have their own insurance policy. for 6.99 a month i get unlimited new/refurbished phones for any reason outside of lost or stolen (rooted, bricked, destroyed, water, hulk attacks). One time, I gave it back to them as I bricked it and they upgraded my phone for free. As a constant flasher (haha), I do not know if I would be able to give that up just yet.
Like others, I really like having the latest phone but it wasnt a big deal for a few years because for some reason I was able to get yearly upgrades, so even if I had a new phone for a few months and a better one came out I knew I could upgrade a few months from than when an even better phone would be out. When I picked up my infuse last year is when my yearly upgrade disapeared, I decided to open a second line which will give me back yearly upgrades, the trade off is a slightly higher bill...I think its 25 bucks more per month. I got the note in march and I can upgrade my other line in august.

One time, I gave it back to them as I bricked it and they upgraded my phone for free. As a constant flasher (haha), I do not know if I would be able to give that up just yet.

They do not. The only insurance offered is through the carrier/assurian. If you need the black tie protection, BB can't be beat.

Vive la Note!
I would keep the Note there is not that much of a big improvment on the SG3 to make up for the loss of the big display and spen. All the software improvements like the Svoice and Smart stay will be ported over by our Devs the only thing that you can't get is the better S4 processor or exynos. SO do you go with smaller screen, and no spen or better processor? I'll stick with the Note.
I've had my note for about two weeks and loved it the first week (rooted it right away). After going back and forth between this, my old nexus s, and my work phone(evo design) I've decided its too big and uncomfortable to hold. I love being able to type cleanly and the screen real estate, but its just too much for me.
I'm going to return it next week for a galaxy s3 pre order. I flashed to stock and unrooted resetting the flash counter and everything. Its not too hard if you decide to do it and I've never used adb before. If I didn't flash a different from the beginning, this thing would have been returned within a couple days. I've been using stock for a few days now and its a world of difference.
EDIT: I also didn't find any use for the S-pen. I tried to like it my first week, but using my fingers is easier for everything and I didn't find the snote app practical for much of anything. I know some people find great uses for this thing, but some reviews are right, you'll never know until you try

I'd keep the Note. For one simple thing, it is a Far the best phone out there with a big if. and that is IF you know what you want to use it for.
Simple example: sMemo not pratical? that is what i thought at first. until i created 2 to 3 empty notes as widgets on my homescreen just waiting to be written on and expanded in size for quick look.
Galaxy S3 to me is no upgrade, as a matter of fact if anything its just the software really. I think that Galaxy Note got a bad rap because of Ginger Bread, performance on that sucked. ICS in the other hand is awesome. I do Owned MW3 and performance on that sucked on the Note, and that is because of software optimization. Blame Android fragmentation for that

MW3 on saurom OC'd to 1.78 plays extremely fluidly...you take away the oc on ics and it is horrible to play.
Considering ill have this phone for the next two years....I'm just a little worried that the device has to be stretched to its limits NOW as soon as I bought it to perform "acceptably"...FYI I don't think ANY current unofficial ICS rom out now is "acceptable".

I have a one x and a g nexus that sit in my drawer because I love my note so much. I feel like zoolander when I pick up a device with a smaller screen!

Getting the s3 isn't a bad option. Better than getting an One X. If I were to get a phone now, it would be the N7000 or the s3. BUT, I still love my G Note on UCLE2 ICS.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
-iOS = inspiring Outdated Software
Stick with the note....Its a outstanding phone, with a beautiful large screen.. And development is finally taking off on this phone is only going to get better through time too. You will regret having such a smaller screen. Plus I know the processer is a little faster on the other phone but you won't ever tell the difference that much, plus we already have a overclocked gingerbread kernel.. and ics is right around the corner and soon we will have that kernel overclocked as well.....stick it out you won't regret it!
I just love the note. Its has literally replaced my ipad and laptop as well. Shoot it has has replaced my tv as well.....

^This.^
Plus you don't technically have to be a Costco member to order from their online store
I have had a phone with the S4 processor (HTC One S), and the performance is marginally better. For me the Note does everything I want and then some. With Nova Prime there is 0 lag or anything else. The screen is the best I have seen, even beating the One X in my honest opinion. I will try a GS3 and see if maybe I will score one locally when they hit craigslist, but just from looks alone....it looks like a huge vibrant, which I was not a huge fan of. The software is already being ported from the GS3 to our device, our FFC is better, and our design seems more high end.
Getting S3 is nice idea.. but If you want to do more than what you can do with a smartphone.. then definitely go for NOTE. It is the most awesome phone on the earth.
Buying S3 from ATT, Verizon and T-Mo is not much of an upgrade.. this S3 is Dual core (not quad as of International version)
I am into the same boat, thinking of getting the S3. The reason I am thinking about it is battery life really. I am disappointed that my 2500 mah battery with push Exchange email is down to 50% at the end of a 9 hour work day. My Captivate used to get to 60-65% instead.
If the S3 has better battery life then I will jump ship. Until them I am still trying to find ways to increase it. I have used hacked rooms as well as ICS its all the same.
I won't lie though, it is going to be tough to leave because the Note will always have these 2 things for it.
BIGGEST SCREEN
S-pen built in.

The biggest con for owning the Note? is that i cannot for the life of me use another phone. It has become everything from Phone, TV, game machine, Work, and Moleskine pocket notebook (yes the paper kind).

Please use this thread to discuss devices other than and any comparisons with other devices on or about the Note III in this thread and any other off-topic issues that are not needing a new thread.
Post with respect, this is a helpful community, hope we all learn from this stuff in here.
I would like to see peoples opinion's on the note 3 compared to the LG G2. I am on the fence on the two. Im coming from the S3 so the note will be quite large. Being on Verizon we dont have the Nexus 5 option so it seems it is up to these two devices. My main hesitation on the Note is how locked down it is. We might not get customs roms on it at all. The LG G2 has Loki so we are good to go on that one. Both of the build qualities are lacking so thats a wash.

LOL, THAT was one funny movie......
I'm on the fence about mine. I got in on the Verizon unlimited data glitch and have a Note 3 coming.
I have a Note 2 and if not for the glitch wouldn't have considered upgrading. The Note 3 just didn't excite me enough to spend the money. I HATE pentile matrix screens and I felt like the move to 5.7" wasn't enough. I want something in the 5.9" to 6.1" range.
With California taxes I'm in for about $385, and I figure I could sell the Note III for $700ish. Then in a couple months I could sell my Note II for around $300 and have a nice little fund for a new device. What I really want is the HTC One Max, but who knows if Verizon will ever get it?
I don't know what to do.

The G2 is a really nice device. I hate the buttons on the back, but everything else about the physical form factor is great.
The screen is really nice, it's fast, excellent camera and battery life. I hate LG's skin, but with Nova you can cover up a lot, and now that it's Loki'd I figure it's only a matter of time before AOSP roms are available.

I have the LG spectrum and it's a great phone except for cheap sensors. Before I ever buy lg again I will install android sensors or sensor box on the store demo first. Cheap sensors have a lower range and/or operate erratically. I.e. Magnetic sensor: og Droid 0-2000, gs3 0-20000 and LG Spectrum 0-200!
What's it mean? Compass apps not reliable or accurate, Google sky map to jittery to use, auto brightness works poorly, when on call screen takes longer to turn on for the keypad, etc. At first I thought I had a lemon but LG insisted it was the applications.

contract up !!!! What to buy next?
My contract will be up soon. I am looking to replace Verizon samsung Galaxy Nexus which I loved. I was looking at the Note 3. I like the big screen.
I have a rooted phone and want to root this new phone. The main reason I root is for the hotspot feature. Anyone have any suggestions on what phone I should look at. I am using MIUI Android Rom right now. I would be open to even staying with original OS if it had everything I wanted.
Would also like a phone with a longer lasting battery.
Has the Note 2 had any problems I should be aware of?
Any help is appreciated.
I have time so I am willing to wait if there is a good recommendation. I also don't want a bigger screen. The note 3 size seems to be perfect.

I've had the Note2 for about six months... it is easily the best phone I've ever owned. Seriously, it absolutely blows the doors off the Galaxy Nexus, in performance, build quality, screen quality, battery, phone call quality... I wouldn't have upgraded to the Note3 if it wasn't for the Verizon glitch. ...that and my wife wanting my Note2!

I agree 100 %.
The Note 2 is BY FAR the best phone I've ever owned and I have basically owned every high end phone ever made.
The N2 is the first phone I have ever owned that I was 100% totally satisfied with and haven't been impatiently waiting for the next phone to come out for an upgrade.
I will still probably buy the Note 3 at some point (I have a line I can use for an upgrade and keep my unlimited data), although I will wait and make sure it is at least rootable first as I just know I would never be totally happy with a 100% stock phone.
I'm intrigued by the HTC One Max. I don't use the s-pen or multi-window much and I do use the external speaker daily. I'm hoping for more information about the Max this week. Also, my eyes aren't what they used to be so the large screen may work. Then again the Note 3 is calling to me since I have loved my Note 2 since it's release.....we'll see

Looks like an AWESOME phone to me, but I use the s-pen quite a bit.
This obviously is a question I can only answer myself but wanted some input from some people that have bathed themselves in note 3 info... lol and some likely coming from an s3.... I'm not eligible for a new phone until march 2014... however I'm sure I could call and call and eventually get an upgrade to edge anyway (done this before... it works.. just keep calling) edge obviously a bit of a rip off.. but i could kill a few other accounts i don't really use often to make up for the cost.... and obviously if i wanted to flip a phone i could do so in 12 months or so..... with that being said..
I do love the size.. and the bigger screen is preferable to me when it comes to videos.. and other things. The speed is obviously sweet and so is the size... however..
I use my phone to play general games.. not a huge gaming on phone person.. (less you could get league of legends on there lol)... i use my phone as a basic camera..... as well to surf the web... 75% of the time i have access to a desktop in which time i could use my phone as well... i do enjoy surfing whatever sitting on the couch obviously..... I'm really on the fence... I always get super hyped over a new phone (got s3 right away and it took several calls to Verizon to get it done) in which yes, its a nice phone with nice camera options... with that being said.. its still a phone... using it to call people is its basic purpose... i've started to utilize google calandar more and more as i have a disability that the meds hinders my short term memory..so that would be one nice thing.. the s pen is sweet.. looks so awesome.. but i don't see me using it much except to jot down phone numbers or addresses on the fly (which wouldn't be often.. i'm not a people person type of guy and my job doesn't require any use of cellphones) So i'm thinking a faster processor.. better camera..the faster processor and screen size would be the main reasons..... but do i really want to go for it? do i really want to get it now and go on the verizon edge program? I just feel like I may be jumping in and after a month regretting my decision... anyone coming from an S3 have an early opinion? ( i also am in an area where voice calling isn't that great... and i would hope it would be better with the s3 (its better on my wifes older galaxy nexus)... that would be something i suppose i would have to find out after the fact.. and use the 30day policy... to go or not to go..... been thinking about it A LOT for the past week.
Be careful... if you're on Sprint or Vzw, it's only a 14 day policy

Whether or not you consider Edge to be a rip off, I prefer it to dropping $300 on the phone, plus paying my ETF for my old line. That is a total of roughly $310 +$50 for last bill + $300 + taxes for Note 3 = $660 on the lean side. With Edge I spent $102 with Priority Overnight shipping, screen protectors, first month of Edge, and taxes. Now when I sell my HTC One, I sell for around $400 after shipping and paypal fees, that leaves me with just enough to justify upgrading to Note 3. Now in 12 months, I will have paid $300 or so, and I can upgrade to the next Note 4 by then. I find this better.
Okay now on to your question: S3 is a good phone, but no Quad Core Processor, 2GB RAM is okay low compared to Note 3, but 1080p screen is a nice addition, makes watching 1080p movies so much better (based on my experience with 1080p on HTC One). No more scaling, or downsizing. Honestly if you can get the Note 3 at $299 or Edge it then do it. I recommend it.
N3 > LG2 because it has a micro sd slot and no annoying fixed nav bar taking up display space. What is the point of the bigger display if you end up having about the same space as a 5" display (if no nav bar)?
S3 and N3 seem IMO two different devices. I have medium hands and find the phablets too big for one hand operation and awkward (too big) to carry in a belt case compared to my S4. That said, if I did not have several tablets, I would choose the N3 as a true all-in-one device.
this. the htc one max has my attention but the biggest question is when will it come to verizon? remember the htc one? and if htc one max has removable sdcard i may have to buy it and have my note 3 and then decide which i like better. i love sense when it comes to htc phones but cant stand nonremovable battery and expandable storage so we will see. and i really like having an s pen if i dont use a whole lot when you need it, it comes in very handy but if the ppi is much higher and screen is better on one max i will be sure of that so it will be an interesting few weeks

Everything I've read/seen shows a removable battery and 16-64GB on-board storage + Micro SD slot. Add this to the front speakers, S-Off having been developed for the VZ One variant, and the only shortcoming is the S-pen features that you won't get vs the N3. I've asked around recently to find out if any of that gets ported to ROMs, so if that's not available I think I finally know what I'm going to buy. I need a new phone immediately if not sooner, but just want to feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

It depends on the on upgrade price for me here on Sprint. I've narrowed it down to G2 and the One Max. I'm on EPRP, so I cannot take advantage of any 3rd party deals

Wow you going from one extreme to another. The One Max which is a over size overweight phablet with probably a upgrade price of $299 to a slim lightweight phone with a 5.2 screen with a upgrade price of $0.
With that said see you over at the G2 side of things.

The 600 is not slow by any means and the phone feels amazing. Even the size is OK, initially OK it does feel massive but like all phones you get past that and it just feels normal, the 600 is still going to be fast in 2 years time so not the end of the world.
Also contracts in the UK are free to get, it appears that its only in the states were u have to pay stupid money just to get a contract.
Im due two upgrades, one this month and one in November, plus I've already got the HTC one, so might even hold fire for something better.
Only problem for me is that HTC will probably release an 800 version and call it the one max XE. Which will just be a massive sucker punch to anyone who bought the original.
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
htc wont bring out a snapdragon 800 version
they said the one line is the 600er line this year ... thats it ... next year it will be the next line of products .... htc two or something
and then they will use another soc
Yes that's one of the deal breakers for me and i am guessing that's the same for most of the tech crowd around. i am not saying that SD 600 is slow and old, but the competing phones just win so easily.
I am not happy to put my money on a phone that's running an old processor. If it was like computers that i can swap out the CPU later after 1 year i would happily get this phone.
800 has improvements in GPU and power utilization that will be easily seen in such a phone, it could have been the most brilliant thing if an 800 was used and under-clocked to 1.7 Ghz
not to mention, in a few months even the 800 will be thrown away from the top spot.
It was for me plus the 4MP camera and a few other things. I held out for this phone hoping for something great but HTC failed to deliver. As soon as Max launched I went out and bought a Note 3 - totally awesome phone. Now just one failing HTC phone (Sensation) in the family soon to be replaced by an S4.
I watch HTC's demise with sadness.

I just ordered my One MAX. i have used the HTC One and from my experience i know that this 4MP camera is amazing and more practically usable than the other phone camera. There is with a reason that HTC One was crowned the best mobile phone of the year.
It came very close to being a deal breaker, but I'm not a big gaming enthusiast or a Samsung fan (GS3). Additionally I found enough articles saying the One Max's performance -- benchmark scores not withstanding -- felt on par or just as good as the Note 3. Personally the lack of a specialized stylus was a bigger potential deal breaker than the Snapdragon 600.
With that being said, I have a Note 3 Developer Edition on backorder with the Samsung site. If Samsung ever delivers on the backorder, I'll know more then as to whether the 800 really makes that much of a difference.
I couldnt care less what kind of processor is in ANY phone I buy. If it is smooth, quick, no lag, and handles everything I throw at it, THATS all that matters in the real world.
I came from a Note 2, which had the same processor and ram, and, frankly, this phone is smoother than the note 2 ever was, even with the custom roms and AOSP that I had on it...I'm sure its because TouchWiz sucks the life out of any phone, and Sense 5.5 doesnt seem to.
Hopefully, development picks up for the one max, so we can see how it handles ASOP roms, but, no matter what, this phone is super smooth, handles anything you ask it to do effortlessly, so stop getting hung up on processor names, and model numbers, and just pay attention to how a phone works for YOU..

It depends on the on upgrade price for me here on Sprint. I've narrowed it down to G2 and the One Max. I'm on EPRP, so I cannot take advantage of any 3rd party deals

One up promotion, $10 Employee referral discount. This is what I have. I gave them an 8 y/o phone to start it up, and I only paid tax.

i wish HTC releases a Google play edition for the MAX.i wonder how difficult it will be for dev's to port the GE version of One to the MAX.

i was really worried about the processor, however i do take back my words, SD 600 is good enough for me.
Having come from a Galaxy Note 2 to the One Max, I would say the One Max would have definitely benefited from the SD800. While the Note 2 did have a 720p screen as opposed to the 1080p, it was snappier due to less strain on the gfx processing. I can feel lag in gaming due to the increased resolution on the One Max. When I used my friends Note 3, I saw none of the same lag I was getting on the One Max.
Now, do I regret choosing the One Max over the Note 3? Not really. I kept flip flopping back and forth between them for my upgrade. I really like the bigger size of the One Max, the front speakers, and aluminum body (minus the horrid choice of white plastic in between the sheets). One the Note 3, the faster processor was nice, but overall, that's all it had to offer. There was one game that I really enjoyed that made use of the Note stylus, but I already beat it and hardly ever took the stylus out for anything else. Plus the upgrade only cost me $109 through Amazon as opposed to $199 for the Note 3 only made it even sweeter.

if you are gamer, do follow the gaming thread from the original HTC one. we have scripts which would making your gaming lag free and last long without thermals. I believe these scripts should work for the One MAX as well.

And once we get the kernel sources, the dev's will be able to unleash the GFX power of SD 600. From what i know gaming (atleast with help of devs) on SD 600 is highly smooth and long lasting - It seems like SD 800 is very power hungry and makes your battery drain faster compare to SD 600. I know SD 800 is supposed to be better at battery usage, however this is specifically for gaming and SD 800 also seems to heat faster which also will contribute to battery drain.
